Sony Walkman App Hi-Res internal + USB DAC playback - Xperia Z2 Themes and Apps

Just wanted to share my experience with the USB DAC output option.
I have an HRT Microstreamer DAC that has a headphone out and a line out. Works flawlessly with my Note 3. Most of my music collection is FLAC (16/44, 24/88, 24/96, 24/176, etc.).
With the Z2 Walkman app, if USB DAC output is on, currently 24/88 & 24/96 playback is glitchy - mostly I'm getting white noise. BUT, if I use USB Audio Player, all the music plays properly and there's no downsampling.
Anyone else with a different DAC have any issues playing hi res FLAC?
From the internal player perspective, it looks like the Z2's Walkman app doesn't support hi res audio files past 24/96 and it's probably downsampling all of them (unless someone knows otherwise). So that kinda sucks considering the Note 3 supports hi res without downsampling.

Works great with FiiO E18... Try Poweramp for music player...

This is an issue with walkman it does downsample audio and can sometimes ruin FLAC Playback this is a futher issue with some Dac's like your mentioning. Now i dont have a Z2 i had a Z just 5 days ago and if they are anything similar try this https://mega.co.nz/#!1NNzHbab!zQMsyz...5Oe2_M5iWwDJmU just install as normal apk also are you rooted and running a custom rom?

I'm pretty sure Poweramp downsamples anything higher than 16/44 or 16/48, like most other music players; it'll play them, but they'll get downsampled on output. If you're playing any high resolution music via your DAC, I'd suggest USB Audio Player Pro; interface isn't as nice as Poweramp, but it bypasses Android's audio engine. So what you put in, you'll get out.

well i have made a couple of changes to be compatible with my port http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739612 which i recommend you flash when the Z2 gets AOSP. so some audio compatibility changes were made bu without the custom libs with my zip i dont hav musch faith in it working but its always worth a shot. WHATEVER YOU DO DONT FLASH THE PORT OVER A STOCK SONY ROM, IT CAN HAVE SOME VERY NEGATIVE EFFECTS!!!!!

lol, thanks for the warning I'll keep an eye on your thread, so I can try it out once we have an AOSP rom for the Z2.

The Z2 works perfectly with Fiio E18, HI resolution USB out only works on stock walkman player.

Wait, so you did turn on the Hi-res Audio via USB option in the sound settings?

I confirm that the Z2 works flawlessly with the Fiio X3 USB DAC even for 192/24 audio files. There is no downsampling as the X3 is presenting the sample rate of the music's I'm playing. I had the Hi-res audio turned on.

I have not as of yet. In fact I'm having some trouble with USB output w/ the current firmware. Whether Hi Res USB Output option is checked or not, I'm getting pops and crackles on playback. Though mostly it's with Pandora or Beats Music. Not sure what's causing it. Does the same thing with my Microstreamer and my FiiO x5 (in DAC mode).
Running .314 firmware. Anyone else have issues?

Interestingly Fiio E10 works on Z2 but you have to charge it using magnetic charger as it consumes a lot of battery

Hello, my Z2 is not rooted and I didn't unlock the bootloader either. The only thing I did was to turn on the Hi-res Audio via USB option in the sound settings. If you have this set, I don't really know what could be wrong unfortunately.

Okay good to know - thx nrbatista.

Is there supposed to be any notification or pop-up when I connect a USB DAC to my Z2?
Because I ticked the Hi-Res USB output in walkman, but when I connect my Sound Blaster E5, I'm not sure if walkman is playing hi-res or not.
I tried toggle the Hi-Res option while music is playing but no difference.

[Q] Problems with Switching audio

Hi Everyone,
I have a weird problem. I tried installing skype from play store yesterday and DSPPack for player Pro and ever since i am having this weird problem.
1) When i plug in a Headset/Earphones the phone does not recognize it. The Audio from the phone calls continues through the earpiece and Music is routed to the Speaker
2) When i restart the phone with the Headset/Earphones plugged in, all the audio is played only through the Headset/Earphones (removing them the audio is not routed back to the earpiece or Speakers)
3) I found this app called SoundAbout, using this app i am able to switch between the Earpiece/Speaker and Earphones/Headset.
Can someone guide me as to how to fix this problem. I have done factory reset twice already but of no use
Thanks and regards
Sanjay

I'm on stock JB retail.EU too. I tried the features that make you problems to find out whether I've got any issue. Both video and Skype through headphones work normal, sound is transmitted via headphones. I don't use any market video player I suppose that you use MX Video Player. Try with stock player, you'll have excellent and smooth video playing. If you want to use other player because of subtitles, I recommend BSPlayer.
But what is important for the beginning is to eliminitate possible cause of your troubles. I suggest you to try these:
1. Inspect how are headphones connected. Thin click is to be heard when connected right. They shall not be inserted less and not beyond this click.
2. If you have bluetooth headphones or you can borrow them (stereo not calling headset) try whether you have the same problem with them.
3. Remove video player and check if the problem still exist with Skype.

1) The problem is not related to Hardware, otherwise SoundAbout would not work
2) Same problem with blue tooth headphones
3) I have removed skype, Player Pro
I installed Player Pro and not MX Player
I even made a factory reset (Settings - Privacy - Factory data reset).
I again made a factory reset now and as i mentioned before... the phone does not detect anything plugged into the Audio Jack. If i restart the phone with something plugged in the audio jack, all volume is routed only through the audio jack (if remove the plug, there is no audio from the earpice or built in loudspeaker) and i have to restart the phone again

Then is it obviously that you have problem with the system (JB or kernel). As I mentioned I have the identical system and no issues with voice switching. You could try to flasIt the JB once more but I wouldn't recommend. Since you have practicaly new phone the most logical solution is to bring it to the service. Its better that the service take the risk of succesful flash and it is usually done really fast.

Tips for Xperia (v) owners with incompatible headphones

Hello all, I need to post 10 messages before being able to post one useful reply in the development part.
Having no idea what to write about, I just transform my (unpostable) answer in a useful thread where more people will find it and where i might even get useful reactions so that we all learn some things.
Ok, to the point:
When using most unofficial headphones, the telephone won't recognise the plug layout.
Depending on the rom/firmware it hasn't got the same consequences.
Sometimes there is sound coming out of the headphones and sometimes there isn't.
With the official Sony roms it wasn't a problem before (just a popup message stating the buttons unavailable) but I had the no sound problem on my V after updating to 4.3 too.
I have an xperia v and before that I had an xperia p, an app called SoundAbout has solved problems for both models, with all kinds of headsets and every rom, both on dalvik and art, so it might work for other models too.
I found it here on xda frontpage a few years ago and it never let me down.
I'm not affiliated with the creators by the way.
We got a free licence for the pro version here ont the xda forum at the time but I lost it and the free version does just fine.
It really is very simple, you start the app and redirect media sound to the headphones.
Another thing that I discovered only last Sunday:
The disadvantage of the SoundAbout app is that the phone considers the outgoing sound as going to the phones speaker, and thus a lot of audio enhancements like headphone surround don't work, you only have the options for the speaker that will have effect.
But I'm running a new rom now, 4.4.4 neowave, the fastest and best battery by far of all roms I have tested.
This rom uses viper4android, where i found an option to lock the settings, so that it is possible to use the headphone options on the speaker sound, and thus for the headphones when used with SoundAbout.
I don't care about mic or buttons working so I have no info about that.
But the sound on my v is finally perfect with my highend headphones, after years of searching how to.
I hope this helps someone, and that it makes other people as happy as I am.
Comon peeps, more than a hundred views but not a single reply?
I don't want to make a 10 post monologue to get to the limit of being able to feedback in rom topics....
Doesn't anybody care about sound quality on his phone ?
Are people getting used to choppy badly decoded music that much?
Am I unique in carying and listening my music on my phone?
I just want to drop by and say that this works indeed for all my NeoWave users, Xperia T ones included.
So if you have any earphone issues, try this app! :good:
Thanks for dropping by
I'm glad it works on the T too.
Personally I tried almost all roms for the V that are/were available here on xda, I haven't counted but that must be more than 20 roms, not counting the updates, and SoundAbout always worked.
For my P also I tried a lot of roms and mods, and no problems encountered with SoundAbout (a lot with incompatible headphones on official roms).
It seems that it is not guaranteed that the mic and buttons work, even with the pro version that has more options, at least that is what I found reading around on the Web, but I'm quite curious about the actual pro version.
Is there anyone that has experience with the pro version ?
I have not tried the pro version, but I have another question..
Do you have any experiences concerning the trial version? Is the usage limited to a certain amount of days or does the app provide most of its features for an unlimited amount of time?
Concerning the media sound routing there is no limitation.
The free version has the following options :
Service - on(background), on(foreground) , on(auto restart), off
Media audio - let app decide, speaker, headphones, headphones (with mic)
Notification behaviour - block notification to speaker on/off
Notification behaviour - block ringtones to speaker on/off
Notification behaviour - speak caller name options
Wired headset behaviour - set detection options when plugged in
In the pro version there are
Phone call redirection settings
Extra settings for text to speach
Bluetooth behavior
Dock behaviour
So, with the free version the headphones do not work for phonecalls.
As I already don't use my headphones for calling, it does not bother me.
hat does work is the widget (1 tile) that toggles sound redirection.
That's great. So the functionality we need is not limited. :good:

What exactly does not work?
It won't autodetect some headphones but if you set service to "on, foreground" and the media audio setting to "wired headphones" ?
Isn't there any sound coming through ?
Is there maybe an app that will make my Xperia V recognise my Nokia (TV Out) RCA cable?

Not sure that it will recognise it automatically though.

USB Audio Out on MTCB RK3188 on 5.1.1

Hi All,
I have lately ventured into th Androi dheadunits world and have been really happy the functionality they bring with them.
I am using a USB dac hifimediy to get audio out from the HU. The HU is a HA version and is on 5.1.1
I dont get the generic Android sounds via the DAC. When the DAC is connected i don't get any sounds from HU. I only get any sound play from UAPP. Rest all the apps which play music doesnt output to USB dac even if i am playing low bitrate MP3
Is this behavior expected or there is something that can be done? Thanks in advance
P.S: i have the "Prevent audio rout to USB" disabled in Developer options

I cannot recall the exact reason, but I recall reading something in this thread about how they are separated. Perhaps @7floor may be able to answer.
Got the same problem.. Connected Asus Xonar U7 and no main sounds from android, only via usb player apps. Android 5.0 supposed to support native usb audio? :/ Also RK3188 & Android 5.1.1.
It may take you some time searching, but at least one person deffo got a USB DAC working on these units, your ll have to search the original thread which is here :

Unstable Bluetooth bitrate

I have a serious problem with Bluetooth audio.
I have really good headphones, but they are quite old and there's no support for ldac or aptx (just sbc). However I'm coming from Huawei P20 Pro and I never had any problem with audio quality on that phone.
And what exactly I mean? When I'm listening the music I can hear occasional drops of audio bitrate. It's extremely annoying. And no, I'm not using different Bluetooth devices (but I was able to do this with Huawei which had older Bluetooth version [!]), everything about multiple output is disabled, that option in developer's menu is set to 1.6. I'm out of ideas and pretty disappointed that premium device like Note 9 have problems with basic functions like this.
Ps. It's not a problem with my device. Same thing is happening on my friend's Note 9.
connect headphone via Bluetooth then go to
developer mode enable it/Bluetooth audio codec/(select the code you needed)
At what volume do you listen via bluetooth?
I have the same issue with my car receiver and noticed that if i play it at max volume i experience that and if i play it at a slighty lower volume, one or two steps from max, the issue is gone (or so i hope) for now it seems it is resolved by lowering the volume from max, or it is fixed in CSC1

I'm not listening on max volume, but sometimes it's close (older or more niche music recorded and mastered properly).
Btw just tried listening on my dad's S8+ and it's the same, so Samsung generally has something broken with sbc codec which is rather disappointing.
Btw, I'm using European Exynos model.
That's probably why Samsung still includes the headphone jack with their phones. I don't use bluetooth that often, except in the car and I don't recall experiencing any issues with it. Maybe I don't pay attention to it, but I will this time and see.

I've tested only with Sony DAC from my Xperia XZ2. Maybe that one isn't compatible.
Maybe the Sony is passive, in that it passes through audio from the phones amp. The Meizu is active, it has its own DAC and Amp built in. Just a wild guess. Maybe the Xperia 1 II does not pass on audio from its built-in amp through the usb connection
USB-C audio works fine with the cable from my old Pixel 2XL. No settings needed.
I've tested using a Hidiz Sonata USB device and the USB audio player pro app and it'w working fine here.
XD05 Plus not connecting.
Doesn't seem to work with Xduoo XD05 Plus
The volume/power from the phone is barely okay for my IEMs, but it can't drive any of my headphones.
This was supposed to be an upgrade from my LGV30 (works fine with XD05) , unfortunately it's rather looking like I should have gone for a V50 or V60 instead.
I have checked in the developer options and it seems like USB Audio Routing is on by default.
Any recommendations to get it working would be appreciated.
I have just tested with my Dragonfly Black and that seems okay. At least it has sufficient power to drive most of my headphones to a reasonable volume. Still very keen to get it working with the Xduoo if I could though.
