How do I extract ringtones from a Nokia Lumia phone or ROM? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a Lumia 620 on the crappy aio/cricket carrier that won't update past Amber. I do like a couple of the aio ringtones that I'd like to extract before I flash to one of the EU CV ROMs. I've got the phone with the aio Amber firmware installed as well as the aio Amber ROM from the Nokia Software Suite.

If the ringtones are stored in or under the C:\Windows directory, you can extract them with my webserver app. If not, your odds aren't good since you don't have interop-unlock. You could extract them using JTAG, but that's expensive and tricky.

I presume the webserver app is the one linked I your sig?

I got the webserver app installed and can browse the files under C:\Windows. Now, does anyone have any idea where the ringtones may be stored? Is there any way to search via this webapp file browser?

You can also dump a rom and see on "C:\Programs\CommonFiles\Sounds".
Open the .wma and .wva with VLC or WMP.

I do have the .ffu package for the aio ROM from the Nokia Care Suite downloaded. Is there an easy way to dump the contents?
Edit: Found this tool to mount an ffu as a drive

Ha, I hadn't refreshed the thread when I edited my post above. Seems to have worked. The sounds are all there.
Thanks so much!

MP3 Trimmer

Please correct me if I am mistaken here. But, I think that AT&T took out the MP3 Trimmer program on the Fuze because I can't find it anywhere on mine. Does anyone have this on theirs? Where can I download this program and how can I install this? Thanks!

Just copy it to your phone and run it. (Double-click in File Explorer) Once it's installed, it will show up in your programs group.
Which folder do I have to put it in. Does it have to be a specific folder? Thanks again.

No, you can put the cab file anywhere. When you run it, it will install the program in the correct place.
I ran the setup xml file via opera using the file explorer on the phone and nothing is happening. Am I doing something wrong here?

Don't extract CAB's content by WinRAR or similar. Just copy the CAB file to your phone and run it from File Explorer on your mobile.

7zip for Kaiser

Does anyone know of a 7zip extractor for windows mobile? I'm dying to use Anryl's 6.5 roms but I'm having a hard time getting them out of the .7z format.
Thanks in advance.

I usually unzip from my computer, then drag the cab files over.
7zip has a website see if they have a mobile phone edition there.
http://rs520.rapidshare.com/files/176176998/HTC.rar
The file you uploaded looks like 7zip for Windows, not Windows Mobile. I checked the 7zip website and there's a mobile version there, but it hangs on my Tilt when I start the extraction process. It ends up saying that I need to close some programs to free up memory, then soft resets.
You can try Xplore (from LonelyCatGames). I believe it handles 7z too, but haven't tried .. I used it for Zip and RAR ok.
However, I'd rather extract the ROM on PC and put the NBH to memory card. Doing so on your phone takes a very long time due to size ..
Xplore doesn't support 7zip. I totally agree with you - I'd much rather be unzipping on my pc then transferring to my phone but I have a mac at home that just doesn't play nice with my Win Mobile phone. This usually causes me to forget about flashing the new OS when I get home from work...

I'm pretty sure that's the one that I've already tried - it installs fine and starts ok, but once I try to extract anything it asks for a task to close, then soft-resets.
I think you will find the file is simply too large to be handled & unzipped with available free memory.
I have used 7-zip a few times & it has worked ok but they were probably quite small in size compared to your ROM image file.
The task needs to be handled on a PC.
Can't find it either
A while ago I looked for a 7zip app myself. Never could really find one that worked.
Here's all the information I could find:
http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=69426 Some russian form which supposedly has a 7zip app. This page is linked to from 7-zip.org
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462193 This is the only real post on xda I could find by searching. It seems to just have the same app as the one from the russian form. There is a WWE version of the app though. I couldn't actually get either of the versions of the app to work though. So try it yourself I guess.
If anyone does have a nice 7-zip app, I'd be glad to know of it though.

Yeah, I saw the same posts. It seems like Mister B is right, there just isn't enough RAM for the PPC version of 7zip to work on the Kaiser. Hopefully there's a developer out there with our same problem...
found this 7zip for mobile. works on my pure.

apks are just zip files. Set them to open with your archive manager or change the extension to .zip. All applications install their settings into /data/data/%PACKAGENAME% where %PACKAGENAME% is the Java-style package name of the app.
Ugh, no need to use the evil "R" word here. You're going to give us nightmares!
Each application stores its configurations/settings in its home directory in /data/data as pointed out by the previous poster. You might want to bone up on 'sqlite3' as most configuration settings tend to be stored in such databases.

I'am trying right now to find this confing files, thanks, I'll let you know if it's ok.
Note that depending on what you are trying to do, the config files may or may not be able to adjust the property you're after. No matter what, the program itself must support what you are trying to do (this goes for ALL OS's -- you simply can't change something that is irrelevant and expect it to do what you want) and more often than not, the ability to adjust that property would be presented by the program itself.
That is, of course, not to say that manually adjusting the config files is useless, because there IS a lot you can do directly from the config files.

Download APK2EXE and NSIS install system
Follow these steps to create your executable!
* Extract APK2EXE to a new directory
* Add your APK to the directory
* Doubleclick APK2EXE.NSI and edit the 3 lines containing information about your application.
* Right click the NSI file, and select 'Compile NSIS Script' - this will create your install EXE
* Done!
And it is a .apk to .exe converter !!!
Can anyone tell me why it doesn't work ? Many thanks
because your trying to run a Android application on Windows.
it's like saying I want to make this MAC application run on windows.. it just doesn't work..
I dont care what programs say.. Its not coded for Windows so it wont understand what the program does...
BTW you application you speak of is meant to install APK's FROM windows not TO windows
"Hot on the heels of my installAPK utility to let you install APKs from your Windows desktop, I now have another neat trick... which allows developers to distribute APKs as Windows EXE files instead."

shouldnt be too tough. just make a executable file that installs and configures adb, allows user to select apk or select a folder of apk's, create a .bat file that tells windows command prompt adb push the .apk to the sd card, then adb install /sdcard/nameofapk.apk
simple enough!
Can anyone tell me how to edit the app / extracted APK file to make the phone think it's a completely different app i.e. install it twice...
Not trying to cause trouble, I'm just looking to install an older version of an app as well as the updated version...

Thanks for replying, I've had a go with that and extracted / decompiled, compiled, signed, and that doesn't work, when I try to install the newly created apk it still tries to overwrite it...
I've watched the vid and read the comments but haven't worked it out yet... Can you point me in the right direction about which bit to edit?
i think you need apktool
Cool, I'll look into that... Any pointers on how to do it once I've got apktool?

XAP file is simply a zip file, so open with Windows Explorer or WinZip, WinRar, etc..
Well, unless it's a .XAP from the store. Then it's a Windows PlayReady container full of DRM-encrypted data which *probably* decrypts to ZIP format (but might not).
We can't open those at this time (except by having the phone install them, obviously).

LOL, yes, with 1200 posts (including possibly *the* most popular one on this whole forum section) and 850 Thanks, I'm quite sure @anaheiim knows of what he speaks.
You, on the other hand, are almost certainly trying to open a .XAP from the store, didn't read *MY* post for some reason, and also didn't do much searching or other forms of research before beginning. As I said, Store XAPs are encrypted with PlayReady DRM, and we don't currently know how to decrypt them.
