I found in another forum a couple of files which allow us to add MegaBass, one of the most beloved features of Sony Ericsson's W(alkman) phone series. I bundled them in an update.zip to be flashed with Clockwork Mod, and given that they work in all Xperia phones, I've decided to spread them around

He says UPDATE.ZIP so i guess you flash it in recovery.

It should be activated by default. I've been told that you need a good equalizer like DSPManager and good headphones to notice the change.
Since this is an update.zip file, you need to be able to enter CWM recovery. Therefore, you need an unlocked bootloader.

if your phone is rooted, you can just extract the update.zip and copy the files.
do not forget to set the proper permission to the files you copied.
after the reboot, it should be loaded by default I suppose.
edit: well, as written in the script, there should be no problem with the method above. but, I could not feel much differences though.

I dont know the contents of this zip but I guess you could just delete them if they haven't overwritten anything,otherwise you have to replace them with the stock ones via root explorer.

If I get this right, if device is rooted with locked BL , i just av to copy the two files in the system/etc folder in the RAR to the system/etc folder on my device right? after reboot it should work or am i wrong?

Remove the two files installed by the update.zip file from the folder they were placed in.

From my understanding it reinforces the bass that the equalizer can produce.
(If you wish to run this on 4.3 replace the DSP manager with the new version from CM 10.2 and it should work properly, discontinued from now onwards)
These files added to any aosp/aokp/pac/carbon rom will make your sound come out with more treble and bass, without distorting as many roms do I've been using them with aosp roms that annoy me with their sound quality, as well as fixing sound it adds DSP manager and Apollo to your rom, seeing as this is my first mod upload i haven't made a flashable zip, but if anyone's willing to make one and pass it here ill upload it. in the .rar file youll find folders to overwrite in your system folder, you can do it with root browser (free on the market) or by dragging them into a rom.zip file before flashing. enjoy & don't flash these on any other device as it may end up making the device unusable (C6603 has been tested so far and the C6602 MAY work, backup before using this)

Hello. Thanks for this. Only thing I'm not liking about PAC ROM is the quiet speaker. Seems after installing the zip there is no difference. How can I tell if bits working?
Edit: in root explorer I have a the files in hw lib and sound fix are date modified 1/8/2008. Everything else is 27/7/2013. I have to assume it worked. Although using external speaker seems no different will need to test headphones.

But! If I change settings in the DSP Manager the sound doesn't change either in Apollo or Play Music.
I'm an AOKP (Android 4.2.2) nightly from 2013-08-21.

It is because they have tunnelaudio playback activated. This is DSP based decoding with audio straight to dacs. There is no way you can have an eq in software.
Too busy to keep maintaining this, have it running on 4.3.1 but it's not much different than what people offer as standard for the XZ anymore so it's pointless. Would appreciate a thread close.

im using eXistenZ Ultimate 3.0.0 and im happy with sound quilty and loud when playing any music file but when someone call me the sound not good and loud like playing music on walkman
the files on the attach will make it 100% as it should be.
download the attach
extract it by explorer i prefer ES File
you will get 4 file copy and replace them on this path /system/etc/ tfa98xx
after replacing reset the permissions for the 4 file again rw r r
reboot and be happy
i tested on eXistenZ Ultimate 3.0.0 without any other sound mod and i dont use v4a also so dont complain if u flashed another sound mod before

WORKING here also on existenz 3.0 , but still the ringing volume was higher before on the older RomAur , dont know is it rom related , or this messing up with the @niaboc79 Z3`s sounD Enhancement , but the ringing volume is 2 levels lower even with that patch , wich is working ,just saying

this mod depending on sony sound files which it is not in cm11 im like you hope someone can make cm11 sound like the stock if so i can make it

I'm a little confused. What exactly does this mod do? Does it make it ringtones/notifications ring from both speakers or does it only increase the volume using some other method? :silly:

Folks not using a Chinese model Z2 will want to copy the soundtweaks section out of the included build prop otherwise your about/system information will be wrong. I just copied and pasted the #soundtweaks section into my build.prop, threw that in the zip and flashed away.
Mine is a D6503 for example.

Works great here. Almost all of the other sound mods are crashing on my phone (well any that use a separate DSPengine.apk to allow a separate equalizer). Like I posted earlier, be wary of the included build.prop. Just copy the sound tweaks section out and add it to your own unless you want your phone to show up as a Chinese Z2 variant.
here is a modified version with D6503 build.prop if you don't want your phone to show as L50w
the mod is working fine, the best so far in term of sound quality.
only issue when rewind/forward the youtube video slider, you lose sound, not sure if it causing by this mod or from the rom. I will check next time I change the rom and report back.
btw you lose sound for the current track/video only, and not ringtones or notification and if you refresh the youtube video the sound is back.

This is still the best soundmod available for 4.4.4/.167 in my opinion too.

Ive been trying to figure that out too. I did notice the volume is extremely loud for me on the top setting already. I think i just used the mixerpath file out of your package though (i had been playing with the other two or three that were posted on here by okolos and the soundmod 3.1 and the revolution one but all three didnt do anything better for me, or constantly FCed whenever id try to use their dsp settings). Sorry.

Yes, it is loud but my brother's note 3 is still louder so I'm trying to match
Unless the note has waterproof external speakers as well that is likely never going to happen.
This mod will allow you to listen to media using the main speaker and the phone earpiece at the same time, resulting in a much better audio experience.
Steps:
1: Using a root file manager, go to system/vendor/etc and rename mixer_paths_tasha.xml to mixer_paths_tasha.xml.bak
2: Download my mixer_paths_tasha.xml
3: Paste my mixer_paths_tasha.xml into system/vendor/etc and set permission 0644 (rw-r--r--)
4. Reboot
Done, enjoy!
Update: Increased the sound in the headphones

I updated the file. Increased the sound of the speaker phone + increased the sound in the headphones
Tried the new one and sound didn't work at all so reverted it for now.

Strange. On the H830 works fine
Try this:
Download my file again
Delete old mixer_paths_tasha.xml
Then copy new mixer_paths_tasha.xml and check permission.
Reboot device

I couldn't initially get it to work on H850, I got an error "Engine not initialized" and no sound.
After changing the encoding in the first line to ISO-8859-1 it works fine.
