I'm not new to rooting and flashing, except with the G2, VS980. That said, I rooted using an app called "AutoRec" from the Play Store. I then flashed TWRP 2.7. However, when attempting to flash the stable version of Cyanogenmod (10.2), I run into an "LG Security Error" and the phone won't boot past the LG boot screen.
Do I need to revert back to an older firmware to flash ROM's? Is there an LG VS980 flashing tutorial anywhere? I used the TOT method to get the G2 back to stock, and I'm currently back on 24A, but reverting won't be a problem as the stock firmware is garbage.
I know, this is a lot for one post, but I need the information. There are plenty of ROM's to choose from, but I don't even know where to start. I know it's difficult picking one, so which one are you using now and would you recommend it?

CM 10/11 nightlies are based on JB or 12B baseband while your phone has 24A or KK. You need to flash JackpotClavin CM11 5/21/14 release
And also, just for future reference (no disrespect), this belongs in Q&A, not development. Hope you get it figured out!

It's not a problem. I've been a member here for awhile, but never really post. I still should've known better.
That said, does anyone have any other suggestions for Google source-based ROM's?
I've recently gone with C-Rom. I noticed the size was quite small, and once it booted, I couldn't be happier. It's plain-Jane Android, and I love it!

Carbon is quite nice too, bigshotrob22 has been posting betas based on 24A to the thread, the last one is in my signature. Don't use the nightlies linked in the original post.

Sorry, I'm sure this will have been posted before, but I used the search function and couldn't narrow the results to what I was looking for.
I have a UK EE spec S3 LTE (Kernel - 3.0.31-1153417, Build - JZO54K-I9305XXBMF1). I have seen MSkip's excellent S3 Unified Toolkit and I am close to getting the courage to root my device, ready to put a different firmware on it to get rid of all the crap that Samsung "think" I want.
I have a couple of questions first though:
1. Can someone recommend a ROM that is the closest to stock Android (JB of course) as I love the feel of the Nexus devices. Unless 'proper' stock Android is an option.
2. Does anyone know is installing a custom ROM will affect how my 4G data reception/operation.
3. How likely am I to make a total arse of it and brick my phone?

Well, bricking your phone is nearly impossible, just do whatever the instructions says and you'll be fine.
And the 4G reception won't be affected, since the only thing affecting data is modems, and AOSP ROM got no modems.
And as of question number 1, there's a ROM called SuperNexus, it's exactly like a Nexus 4. But it's rarely updated and sources from CM might be a bit old. I suggest using CM or Carbon since they're being frequently updated.

Thanks Sebastian! Not heard of Carbon, i'll have to Google that one. When it comes to CM, would you recommend going nightlies or a more stable version? I've heard Paranoid Android is decent too, any opinions on that one?

Dunno really about Paranoid Android, I don't use it but I find it pretty OK. And if I recall it correctly, there isn't a Stable version of CM for 9305.

He's right there isn't a "stable" version but i personally can't live without using CM on my S3 i can highly recommend it, especially the ease of one touch button theme's

Cheers, what do you use; nightlies? How often do you have to flash a new one? Are they as full of bugs as I imagine them to be?
This might sound like a stupid question, when you flash a new ROM, so you lose all your things like email settings, apps and stuff. Does the Google Play app come with a new ROM or do you have to get that as an APK from somewhere and manually install it?

CM is updated every night, hence calling them "nightlies".
CM is very stable, and I often flashed a new nightly every morning.
And question about google apps; you download a different zip file, this file contains all the Google apps.
So you first flash CM then the zip file with google apps.

I would like to replace my GS4 with a phone that I will be able to flash AOSP roms on. The LG G2 looks like an awesome phone, but the software and LG's version of Android looks freakin' ugly ... kind of like TouchWiz.
Is there a way to flash AOSP ROMS on the LG G2 with the latest firmware update? I have read the LG G2 threads and haven't been able to find a straight answer yet. I assume some flashing is possible since I see ROMs in the Verizon LG G2 threads, but are these for the latest baseband version?

Yes there is. If they do not have a method of using the most recent firmware version you can just flash an older version using the LG flahing software. It can be found here on the Return to stock thread. You flash an older version, root, install TWRP or CWM, then download and flash ROM of your choice using custom recovery.

Thanks for the help, that is all I needed to know. I am going to get me an LG G2 and flash an AOSP ROM on it ASAP! LOL
It seems like rooting and installing a custom recovery is easier with the LG phones than it is with the Samsung phones.
Its definitely easier then my SGS3 was. The return to stock thread makes it ridiculously easy. Just be sure to follow the right set of instructions.

Hey guys! My apologies if this is a redundant question, but I just wanted to be sure:
If ASUS decides to actually put out an official KitKat update for this thing eventually, would I still be able to try it out / install it normally *after* I've unlocked?
If so, what exactly would be my procedure? Will I be blocked from getting or installing the OTA, or would the process be no different?
There's been some great progress it seems on custom ROMs for this thing. I'm a bit gun shy admittedly, as running custom ROMs on previous devices led to a lot of instability. I guess I want to ensure I'll still have the option to try out a future official build if I choose. Thanks in advance!

Yes you will definitely be able to update to KitKat once released. However you won't be able to get the OTA update automatically sent to ur tab once u unlock it. But its pretty simple to get it. After Asus has pushed the ota to devices, the also upload the firmware to their website. U would simple download that and place it in the root of ur internal SD, and reboot. Tab will recognize the update, and give u notification for installing it. And u continue with that. Very simple.
And as for the Roms , the cromix ROM is by far very stable ROM. I have tried it for very long time, and has no issues at all, and the plus side is u can do a lot of customizations yet the ROM still runs faster than stock. I strongly recommend cromix ROM.

This is not 100% true. The current official ROM will only flash with the stock recovery installed and not a custom one, so I would assume the same for any update.
It's not an issue to flash the stock recovery back but it will be an extra step.
Also if and when an official KitKat comes out you will more than likely have to wait until a new recovery is made that is compatible for a custom ROM after that.

I never understand why people are pining for the stock rom - no matter which version or update....
I would feel helpless and lost with only the stock recovery! Lately I've been trying to help several people on stock firmware with corrupted data, no custom recovery, no root, locked bootloader.... You're toast!
All you can do is send it in to Asus and pay a bundle! Whereas unlocked you just fire up fastboot or custom recovery and start to fix it!
Besides - once Asus releases a KK version for this tablet you can bet your.... house that sbdags will have a custom version of it out in no time. And it's going to be better than Asus firmware, receive frequent updates, can be flashed with a custom recovery....

Screwed my phone up. Took me 16 hours to finally figure out how to get it back.
Unbricked backed to stock and then rooted.
So right now I sit at
4.22
VS98010B
ROOTED
I tried Beanstalk 4.4. It messed my phone up to the point it was unworkable.
Then I tried a debloated 24a stock rom.. and couldn't get it to load.
So.. I am looking for a simple ROM.
Or maybe I can just stay where I am?
Suggestions?
Is not the roms, it's you. Is follow the instructions in the thread cm11 based on 24A thread. Then feel free to flash any rom you want

Or follow xdabbeb's instructions, which imo is much simpler
Bottom line is you need to have the same version bootstack on your phone as the rom you're flashing. Any stock KitKat or variant needs the 24A bootstack, Beanstalk needs 24A also. The other AOSP's vary, read the OP's on them thoroughly.

I just bought my N6 yesterday from Verizon and I spent some time last night reading up on things but I would like some further confirmation from some experienced users. So I've read a few posts where some have bricked their devices by flashing cm12 while on 5.1. The Verizon N6 came with 5.1 already so is it advisable to not flash cm12? And while we're on that topic, is there anything else you should not do while on 5.1? I was looking through all the roms/kernels and some are not updated yet. So if I'm on 5.1, is it ok to flash a rom/kernel that is not 5.1? And the encryption stuff is confusing as well. I'm sure the device will be a little faster with encryption disabled but is it really that big of a difference? I apologize for being a total noob when it comes to Nexus devices. I've never owned one, I've always had HTC or Samsung. I haven't ran cm since I had my HTC Rezound lol so I'm anxious to run it again. So if someone could please tell me what roms I can and cannot flash and just give me some general advice about this phone I would greatly appreciate it.

it is NOT ok to flash a rom for any other version than what youre on. so dont flash any 5.0.2 roms or kernels if youre on 5.1. (exception being the radio. i believe that can be swapped without incident, but youll have to do some extensive reading in the General and Development sections)
personally im on 5.0.2 for now until chroma gets realllll shiny and polished
i havent been encrypted since my first bootup, but my understanding any lag associated with that has basically been resolved

So that could be why people are messing their phones up? By flashing cm12 while on 5.1? I thought I read somewhere that cm hasn't updated to 5.1 yet. Thanks for the info. I didn't think I could flash anything other than 5.1 but this is not a familiar device to me so it could've been different.

Simply inaccurate. You can run 5.0.2 roms after updating to 5.1 without issue. Just don't touch the bootloader. You cannot downgrade the bootloader from 5.1.

The issue with CM was that they had a brute force bootloader flashing script built in. This has been removed.

Anything that is 5.1 yes, I would stick to ROMs based on the "E" build of 5.1, since that's what you're phone came on. Most ROMs are in process of updating to E.
