[Q] Why SP get better benchmark score than Xperia Z - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Until yesterday, i was an Xperia SP user but today i move on Xperia Z.
Now i'm on 4.3, i' not sure why i get better benchmark score with SP(antutu- 23500+) but with Xperia Z(antutu- 20000) even Xperia Z has a Quad Core Processor, 2GB RAM & Same GPU.
Can anyone please explain that.
Thanks in advance.

Mainly because the SP has a 720p display compared to the Z's 1080p, therefore there is less strain on the GPU during certain parts of the benchmark.

This.
Try it on your computer if you're still confused about it - set resolution lower, benchmark, set higher, benchmark, compare.
Also, consider the fact that the dual core processor in the SP is clocked faster than the XZ. So in single threaded apps/benchmarks it will most likely outperform the quadcore as the extra cores aren't being utilized.
The majority of apps out there are single threaded so it's possible that antutu's tests favor single threaded apps? This is just speculation though.

Just wondering..no need 2 fight

I tried both. The 920 is good but the system (Windows Mobile) it's running on is a complete disaster (Lack of apps, ugly UI, etc). It's build and design is also nothing less than pathetic in comparison to the Z. You won't notice a big difference in the pixel density unless you put your eyes very close to the display but I would still side with the Z because if a dead pixel arises, it will much harder to notice it on the Z, since its display is much more densely packed with them. The processor is also superior on the Z but what the 920 has, will suffice for most tasks aside from the newest and latest games (Once again, the Z wins here because it's more future-proof).
On a side notice, could you try to write nicer next time, the use of shorthand is annoying.

quad and dual are very noticible.. quad can fast proccesing in apps, ofcors its quad, ull notice that on dual core. u might take catching up sometime when opening an app.. (windows phone for me not that useable by my daily basis).. im using ZL same specs in Z.. i dont have any problems with it.. my suggestion is use Z.. battery life so far not an issue anyways.. its on how you use ur phone..

thanks 4 ur reply but about processor let me agree and disagree aswell..........dual vs quad ofcourse quad wins but lumia runs WP8 with no lags at all....in some vids that i watched on Youtube i saw that devices with Quad core as Xperia z and With Android just lags a bit....they said something about adware..malware wich slows android down

Yes,as my friend using wp8 i used it for a few minutes,my observation is the the os is light, very minimal use of processing,i agree aswell, but for having quad im sure it helps fast speed, ofcors by the help of ram to take effect.. Quad integrates on multi tasking and as what i say,ram is there to help.. And it boils to what you comfortably using.. Lets keep this thread very useful. On some other threads comparing etc. Is been lockdown..

First of all let's compare both phones in spec.
You can check it here for more info: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4967&idPhone2=5204
But the most important features.
Screen:
Lumia 920: HD 1280x768 4.5" 332 ppi
Xperia Z: FULL HD 1920x0180 5" 441 ppi
There is quite a difference between full hd and hd also the ppi are much higher in the XZ, so the pictures/full hd videos will look much crisp on the XZ.
Weight
L920: 185 g (6.53 oz)
XZ: 146 g (5.15 oz)
The L920 is heavy, 40g more than the XZ. You will notice that
Memory / Storage
L920: 1Gb RAM / 32GB No sd-card slot
XZ: 2Gb Ram / 16GB Sd card slot
Ram depends on the OS and the usage. Storage is bigger on the L920 by default but no option to increase the storage.
Bluetooth
L920: 3.2
XZ: 4.0
If you use bluetooth a lot the 4.0 protocol is much reliable.
Camera:
L920: 8 MP, 3264 x 2448 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization, autofocus, dual-LED flash
XZ: 13.1 MP, 4128x3096 pixels, autofocus, LED flash
If I'm not wrong, L920 camera is much better in low light condition and in general terms.
OS
L920: Microsoft Windows Phone 8
XZ: Android OS, v4.1.2
Android has much more apps than WP8 in the market, the customization of android is endless (you can access file system, modify the whole rom, kernel) rather than in the wp8 is much more limited.
CPU / GPU
L920: Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait / Adreno 225
XZ: Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait /Adreno 320
Depends on OS and usage. Quad-core much faster than Dual-core.
Radio
L920 No
XZ: Stereo FM radio with RDS
If you need Radio FM, it's a no brainer. XZ has it, L920 doesn't. Obviously there is always Internet Radio that works using data mobile.
Battery:
L920: 2000mAh
XZ: 2330mAh
Price (SIM free):
L920: £399 Carphone Warehouse
XZ: £489 Carphone Warehouse
L920 is cheaper
Around the same battery life.
Right, now. Ask yourself this questions.
What are you going to use the phone for?
What is your budget?
Do you use app intensive taks? Playing heavy CPU/GPU intensive games?
Do you find useful the Water/Dust resistance on the XZ, (ie it's protected from rain, failing into water by accident)?

First of all, let me thank u 4 ur effort
secondly:about screen being Crisp or so...i heard that naked eye cant differentiate between both as if its higher than 300 PPI its almost the same
Iam not keen on gaming or so i will buy it mainly for reading e-books,taking pics and watching vids(not that much even)
About Water resistant....iam from a dry country...No rains for 3-4 years actually so it doesnt matter 4 me

Take into account that appart from the DPI, one is HD (720p) and the other is Full-HD (1080p), there is a difference between them. You will notice it while browsing a website and zooming to read, it will be much sharp in the XZ.
If you are going to read e-book you will find it more easier in a bigger screen, 5" vs 4.5" is quite a difference in screen size.
At the end of the day is a matter of preference, Android vs WP8. Right now I think Android is a better OS in terms of app and support. Also XZ has the technological advantage compared to the L920. For the price of both I would go for the XZ, personally. As someone said before, XZ is more future-proof, a Dual core and 720p is getting obsolete and 1gb ram is quite low imho. If you are not convinced with the XZ, there are other options: Samsung, HTC, LG.
The best thing to do is go to a shop and hold both at the same time, try most of the features and go for the one your guts tells you.
If I helped you, you could press the thanks button

After settling for 5 inch phone, I would never go for anything below it. I have seen the Optimus g is person . It's quite nice. If I'm not wrong the specs of Optimus g and xperia z is almost the same s4 pro quad core with 2 gb ram. Except it's not full hd like the xz and at a lower ppi 318 vs xz's 441. And no ip55/57 rating. The screen looks nice but I haven't tried reading on it. I just watch a video playback.

I had them both in my hand , my friend's LG and a co-worker had the Xperia... Personally I ordered the Xperia Z and waiting for it. It's much more solid built and I believe strongly in Sony , not to be the fanboy but ask around and everyone will tell you that LG will never be competion to Sony unless you want to spend less !!!

Xperia T or SP

Hi,
I want buy new phone.
I thought about xperia t and SP. I can get them for 1PLN (POLISH).
Please help me choose which is better.
Thanks
Wysłano z E15i z użyciem Tapatalk
If you want root, custom roms, especially cyanogenmod, get the T. If you don't care about modding it, get the SP.
SP will have CM support too, I'd say SP if you can get it factory unlocked
Sent from my LT30p using xda app-developers app
Choose SP, it will have surely a better support from Sony in the future. T is now being forgotten pretty quickly.
Tapped from The Bond Phone!
This is how I would look at it:
Pros of Xperia T: It has a better camera (13Mgpx vs 8Mgpx), it has larger internal memory 16Gb vs 8Gb, and better front facing camera 1.3Mgpx vs 0.3 Mgpx.
Pros of Xperia SP: Slightly faster CPU (1.7Ghz vs 1.5Ghz dual core both), better GPU Adreno 320 vs Adreno 225, larger capacity battery 2370Mah vs 1850Mah.
For example for my mother and wife the Xperia T is the best phone, fast enough for everything they use it for and with an excellent camera.
If you are a power user the added speed in games, and battery life might make SP a better choice.
Good luck.

[Q] Oveclocking Sony Xperia Z1

How can I overclock my Sony Xperia Z1? And how much speed can be achieved with overclocking, actually to which clock can it go so it can work normally?
Man sorry for my English but you are a dunderhead.
The Xperia Z1 have got a Snapdragon 800 with 2,1 GHz (real) clocking.
The max possible clock on these CPU is 2.3 GHz.
You will not notice any faster experience.
But will notice little more heat and maybe the CPU will get danger.
S800 is a very strong Processor.
When you have lags than deactivate the animation or delete some useless apps.
But when so think you know more here please:
When you will overlocking then backup ta-> unlock bootloader-> flash doomloard kernel.

If you want to try on your own risk.

if you rich 2.5ghz X 4 and no damage on the phone I think this will be good enough.

Google now

Is thereany way to have google now always listening to the hotword? like in the way it works on nexus

It a bed idea.
On Motorola X are 8 cores available.
2 Processor+2 for Sensor (Smart Camera start...) 2 interactive Speak identification
The last 2 I forgot for what.
On our Z1 we have Snapdragon 800 with 4 cores
I will say when the features will port to our Z1, 1 core must already for speaking and this will be suck very much battery.

Moto X how many cores? It's dualcore no matter Motorolas Marketing tries to beautify. How can they sum the Adreno 320 GPU as additional cores? But worse, the TI C55x voice DSP as core? Last but not least? What has this all to do with battery drain? It might sound rude, but you have an important information mismatch...
Motorola have :
Motorola*X8 Mobile Computing*System:
2x 1,7 GHz Prozessor/ Quad Core Gpu Adreno 320/ 2 Cores for Sensors and Speaking.
The last two cores for Sensor and Speaking are so low underclocked and only for Sensors and Google Now (Okay,Google) Command, that they drain very very very low power.
We havent on our Z1 this low power cores, we have 4 Quad Cores with minimum clock of 300 MHz.
When this feature will be port to our Z1 and will active the processor must run on 300 MHz or high to have smooth restrained.
Our Z1 can't than go to deep sleep.

[Q] Few Questions about Xperia Z

I am a Xperia SP user, plan to buy a Xperia Z ASAP. I have few questions about it.
Q1- What about camera? I know that has 13.1MP. I'm very disappointed with my SP's camera even that is 8MP. Pictures are very noisy, works bad in low light etc.
Q2- Why benchmark of Xperia Z is same/low than Xperia SP even Xperia Z has 2GB RAM+Quad Core Processor? Usually i get 23500+ with my SP(4.3) on Antutu.
Q3- What about Kitkat update of it? Is it make phone smoother or increase performance? What is the benchmark score of it after Kitkat update on Antutu.
Thanks in advance.

1) IMHO, the camera is surprisingly good but I also always put my photos through adobe light room.
2) dunno. I'll run a benchmark on 4.4.2 for you.
3) lots of people are complaining after complaining the update didn't come fast enough. For me, it's flawless. Just force GPU rendering, reboot and good to go. That fixed my notification slider issue. I have better battery life than I did on 4.2.2. I'll have to run a benchmark for you.
Edit: just ran antutu. Got just under 20000. I'm guessing alot of the difference may have to do with the high resolution screen on the Z. The screen is 1920x1080.
