i537 KitKat SafeStrap Backup How-To(NO-LONGER NEEDED) - Galaxy S 4 Active General

Since I've been constantly making changes to the system and currently SS does not support our android version fully. I needed a way to save or restore changes I've made.Currently there is no way to mount system with the stock KK kernel in recovery. But there is with the pawned JB kernel and that's all you need to backup system/data.So here we go!!!
((After Kit-Kat Up-Grade has fully booted!!))
1.Reboot to download mode
2.Flash pawned kernel found here---->>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2722073
3.Select recovery at safestrap boot splash after phone reboots.
4.Mount system/data,make your backup
5.Reboot download mode Odin flash stock KitKat boot tar found also in link above.
6.Profit from your efforts
<<----This same method can be used to install flashable zips---->>
<<----Process is the same when selecting backup to restore---->>

works perfect
thanks

This thread is no longer needed. Thanks to hashcode we have a working kitkat recovery.

[Q] Need some help here...

Hey, so I decided to root my Mini. That part worked (installed the zip from stock recovery) but then I attempted to install the CWM recovery using the update zip method and I don't know whether I should of used ODIN instead because I can't backup my current ROM.
If I tried flashing CWM recovery using ODIN , will it overwrite existing recovery and will it allow me to backup my current ROM. Can't mount system can't mount cache errors??
Just to verify also, I wipe user data before installing new custom ROM ? Been a while since i last installed one.
Thanks for your help!
Flashing CWM will overwrite current recovery, you'd have to flash stock to remove it
As for creating backups you can't backup stock roms because of how they work, the closest to stock that can be backed up (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176927)

[Q] CWM Recovery is not booting

Hi
I have here a Galaxy Mini running stock Froyo 2.2.1 without an USB-cable.
My goal is to flash CM 9.
I rooted the phone with an update.zip containing Superuser.apk and the su binary. (I needed it for Titanium Backup)
I want to install CWM too but I can not use Odin (no USB cable). I downloaded CWM Touch 5.2.0.8 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439751, named the file update.zip and flashed it with the stock recovery tool. - This seemed to be sucessful.
But now the devie is stuck at the "Samsung" logo everytime I try to boot into recovery. Booting the normal Android works fine.
Is there a way to flash CWM without using Odin now? (probably using linux "dd")
I would like to have CWM before I flash CM9 beacuse I want to create a full backup first.
Edit: Ok...I might have overlooked that this CWM is for Gingerbread.
Thanks
flashing through stock recovery may not work
you have to use odin to flash the recovery
one more thing is that you cannot backup stock rom
you must upgrade to gb to flash cm9 (bootloader incompatibility)

A full back up of what ?
If you try to back up your current ROM app data, then restore it on cm, there'll be bugs potential.

Hi can i flash by odin a custom kernel with custom recovery for restore my android 4.4 without flashing stock rom then root, flash cwm and so on?
You can flash philz kernel. It has cwm. But I am it sure if you can restore a 4.4 backup with it. May be you can. But if it fails, you can install raw kernel as you will have cwm.
what 4.4 recovery was the backup made with? if made with twrp you will need twrp recovery so flash omni rom then restore backup.
if cwm backup then you will need cwm recovery with selinux support like raw r4
are you unable to boot to recovery and only get download mode if so you will start with philz kernel with odin
Yes im unable to load recovery i must flash by odin a tar.md5 kernel? Am i right?
Yes try that. Also try to remove the battery for 10 seconds. Remove the USB cable. Then reseat the battery and try to boot into recovery

How to install CM11

How to install CM11 on a stockbased ace if you cant use CWM for it on stock based roms?
Do you use the stock recovery to install CM11 rom first?
What standard procedure is being used?
First flash CWM 5.0.2.6 from your stock recovery, How-to and download link is pinned in the main thread of S5830 !
Then you can flash CWM 6xx recovery which will then install the CM11 ROM !

If you are running a stock un-rooted rom follow the steps form this post: ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6 FIXED
If you are rooted just flash CWM 5.0.2.6 FIXED in order to flash the new CWM 6.x, then download CWM 6.x from HERE
Finally you'll able to flash CM11 . Find the latest CM11 builds HERE

Unable to flash from 4.4.2 to stock or rooted Lollipop

I tried what I was advised here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...pgrading-stubborn-software-t3228423?nocache=1
I can successfully flash it but Kit Kat still boots up every time. I don't know what to do. Maybe twrp? How do I do that.
May also be relevant that I cannot seem to boot into recovery to do the fixes after I flash. 4.4.2 stil comes up.
Cheers!
You could just use Odin to go back to stock, always worked for me. The only reason I could think that you could have problems is that you have a custom rom already that changes your build and model.

If you need to install stock rom you need to make sure build number is N900AUCUCNC2 and then use odin to install .
If you need to install root rom install Towelroot from play store and make sure wifi or data network is on during root then install SuperSU
BusyBox (open BusyBox and install from inside ), "Safestrap-HLTEATT-NC2-3.75-B03" recovery from fourm put your prerooted rom in sd card open Safestrap and boot to recovery you will be able to install rooted rom from there .
