[POLL][MONTHLY] What Original ROM are you using? (please bump if vote) - Nexus 5 General

Only chose the top originals as listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...dex-google-nexus-5-roms-kernels-mods-t2475401
This should help give people a starting point for the most popular ROMs people are choosing.
If you wish to give the main reason you are running the ROM that you are, please do. There may be some commonality among certain ROMs-- one people like for features, another for battery life, buglessness, etc.

This thread should be closed.

please stay on topic. This thread is for tracking ROM traffic and simplifying the "finding your own personal ROM" life exploration process that we all inevitably go through
There's a few others ROMs I meant to include but they'll have to sit this one out.

I for one appreciate this thread and purity for the speed and stability.

well, I'm trying to make this as sanitary as it can be. On some forums this info was public knowledge, all the major ROMs had their own subforum and with a count beside the link that had the number of clicks within (arbitrary timeframe, perhaps the last 30 days or so). It helped weed out the fluff ROMs that don't really accomplish much unique. Over the months it became simple to see which ROMs people where more or less likely to choose given a fresh slate. It's a good thing for development because developers can more easily see which ROMs they want to support with their efforts.

And I'm running an actual "Original" ROM. It's called Stock.

I'd agree this is kind of pointless. And just because a sub forum had fewer clicks doesn't mean many didn't truly enjoy it.
Going by that standard we should all be driving Ford F150 trucks in the U.S. since it's the number 1 selling vehicle every year.

Why not just sort the Development forums by stats? This poll thread isn't going to be remotely scientific anyway.

Anyone else annoyed?

I am finding that a lot of new ROMs are being posted that don't actually have any difference to other ROMs apart from some colours, and really are just themes.
I promised myself that I wouldn't write a wall of text so I've kept it short.
Is anyone else getting annoyed by this is or is it just me?
same here, at the most, some people have just applied a few tweaks which are readily available on the forums anyway
Same here.. It annoys me too.. these, um, 'devs'... I appreciate their effort, but its nothing much creative..

Wall of text. Please explain that to this guy. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18756483&postcount=3
(yes I know it's a different forum)
I would be okay with this if they clearly stated what they did instead of trying to make it seem like actual development
Sometimes I ask my self why they don't just make flashable themes instead of making their own "ROM"
They should put [COPYCAT] in front of their threads and save us a lot of trouble
That plus the ones that make a rom that I really like then decide they want to make their own forum that you have to sign up for if you want to keep up to date with the rom.
Or I hate.it when they make nice rom with their own stuff and theme it. Like wtf man no one wants a black and blue rom with a purple or green back cover. Think, man think.-________-

it would save us all the time of downloading, flashing and possibly restoring if you wiped.
I concur. If all that has changed is the theme, then just post a theme and let people choose ROMs that are actually useful.
OK you 're right 50%.
First you have to try the rom and then comment in the thread.

What is the point when all the features are exactly the same as every other single ROM, and they will quite obviously not have the same performance as ROMs that have recognised developers making them?

Confusing
For the average user it is very confusing to have so many roms out there. Not many have time to read countless thread with hundreds of pages to decide which rom is a winner and which is a lemon ...
Yes it is true that it will be lot more convenient to us people, but what if they're doing it to learn?

Not to make this personal, but if the average user is not willing to read and study then that is a problem of his, or her, own. XDA isn't about instant gratification, you SHOULD look and study, that's what evolves the average user into a more well built and well studied user
I'm not trying to offend you, just giving my two cents.
-Remember, Android hell is a real place and you will be sent there at the first sign of defiance-
This annoys me too but for a different reason. I have created my very first rom, but it is just another rom that I themed and tweaked. I threw that rom into the trash and reset my kitchen.
Its hard to think of something original, never been done before, stand out from the crowd, make iphone users jealous... which kinda sucks, because I want to contribute to the community. I think i'll just wait a week or two for the x10 gingerbread to come out and do a few themes...
It well, that's my rant finished.

Musicians thread?

Was wondering if we could make this thread happen because there's already the drummers thread and the bassist thread. This way, if it's all combined into one thread, it can help with clearing up future clutter with threads for other instruments.
We could have all our musicians all in one place and all talking about what they love.

Not too sure that the respective op's would be too happy about a merge....
I'll leave that for Archer/Vanessa to decide though....
Also, merging would just create an unholy mess of a thread due to its chronological nature.

Merging is no big deal to do, but all the posts are merged chronologically, so it would make reading the thread from the beginning very difficult. I think it would make more sense to close the existing threads and start a new dedicated one, if we were going to do anything with them.

I think that probably works best with what we've currently got, but without a thread where they all talk to each other how will we start an xda band??
I'm still not convinced though that we shouldn't have a dedicated thread. I play both guitar and keyboards, as well as doing computer generated music and would like talking about them all but that would take at least 3 threads. I'd like to talk about them all in one place.
Now I've typed that I'm thinking that one thread is the way to go. Undecided Archer is undecided.

Very nice! I second.
I, for one, would beg any mod to NOT merge the musician threads.
I can only imagine scrolling through, and seeing 19 pictures of of someones guitar rig, links to bass sheet music, arguments about who actually invented the fiddle, and so on.
My point is that in the respective threads, people get pretty detailed about gear and preferences. It would be so frustrating to weed through all that for (in my case) drum related posts.

This is where the confusion steps in.
If it's all merged together, it makes it more awkward and irritating for the people commenting for different instruments etc.
But if it stays how it currently is, I can imagine people noticing that and it getting out of hand and eventually seeing a thread for the triangle players of the community.
It's just a case of working out the best option. Any suggestions from you Skinny?

PSX User Thread/Information - Latest ver.: V3! Merry X-mas! :)

Hi all!
So... the PSX thread is finally closed... but I guess some of us will keep using it, right? So I thought that it would be interesting to create a user thread for this great ROM.
UPDATE: A brief FAQ for you.
Q: So, what happened to the thread?
A: The developer got (allegedly) tired of the slackness of the majority of the people posting in the development thread, i.e. repeating questions that were already answered, repeating requests about features that were already requested, complaints about bugs that were already reported and mostly app/user related, etc.
Q: No more PSX?
A: Incorrect. Development goes on and you can follow it here. I will try to update this post with the most important updates, as apparently some people can't access the new forum from restricted access networks (office).
Q: Can we get nightlies and stuff?
A: It's possible, head out to the PSX forum and read the rules. I will only post released versions here, as the developers clearly want access to the nightlies to be limited, and I wouldn't want to get banned from their forum, would I?
Rejoice! V3 is finally here!
Changelog and mirror thanks to @infiltrata
Updated source to AOSP 4.4.2
Added charging LED option
Completely redone kernel with custom hotplug
Option to hide battery symbol completely
Active Display
Extended options for Quiet Hours
Customized Lockscreen targets

Waiting for the first lucky winner
Cheers!

Yes I think it makes sense!
Would be great if someone could follow ct's github and maybe build and share the releases...
On other news, I took the ART "plunge" this morning and so far I'm pretty happy with it! I lost about 1800 point in Quadrant, true, but battery life seems to have improved a lot! Don't know, maybe just placebo... I'll let it settle and try to give it some "normal" use and then I'll switch back to dalvik to compare... we'll see!
Oh and no compatibility issues so far. I was afraid that Carmageddon wouldn't work but it works perfectly with kitkat and art ^_^
Gone but not forgotten
I am a happy PSX user as a well. I tried catching up on all the issues but that was causing the problems but am still wondering since the thread is closed does that mean that CTFROMMN will never release any future updates or new Roms to us regular Joes? As a very new N4 owner I had only tried a few Roms but I have to say hands down, his latest work is the best that's out there right now. Its a shame if its the last one we will see.
I don't always post on XDA, I'm usually one of those who just lurk around and conduct experiments on their cellphone.
A few days ago I bought Nexus 4 after selling my old SGS2, and I tried several roms (both stock and non-stock), and the one that has actually caught my eye was PSX.
Smooth (even though Nexus 4 itself is smooth as hell), feature-rich, battery-friendly, and most importantly - bug free.
I don't know if ctfrommn is reading this (probably not), but just in case he does - you rock. You've made my experience with this device probably 10X better than with any other ROM.
I've read what you said on the official post and I agree that some people need to just shut the hell up and be thankful for what they get.
If you love something, keep on doing it, and let the nay sayers kiss your ass while doing it.
You did a great job on this ROM, and I'm sure a lot of people around here think so as well.
Thank you for your incredible work. I hope I'll get the chance to test and use your and your friends' creations in the future.
can some1 tell me what happened? my n4 is on lg service center, so i didnt check xda :/
^^^^ psx thread was all filled with posts like 'ohh i love this rom, this if do fast so smooth' and there were other posts all having complaints.1000's of posts like these..dev got tired of reading all those useless posts.. warned again and again but nobody listened.. No idea what happened yesterday but I'm sure that dev's mind should've snapped for sure after watching helplessly at the state of thread...
Anyways.. It shouldn't be a problem If There sources keep on getting updated.

Like XDA But On Steroids

Hello everyone,
I've been pondering over some project to divert my time on and well recently I've begun to notice the somewhat unorganized mess XDA has become. So I thought of the fabulous idea of creating a new website made strictly for ROMs, Kernels, Rooting, & Unlocking Bootloaders. The website would have separate sections for each device, then differing versions of the device, then for android version, and then finally for type of development. For example AT&T Galaxy S3 CM12 rom would be found under Galaxy S3>AT&T>Lollipop>Roms>Cyanogenmod 12.
Get it? Super organized, super easy to find things.
What do you guys think? Is this something worth investing my time in? Or should I just give u on this little project? Be brutally honest please. After all there is no point on building a website that nobody will ever use.
More steps but easier finds. Nice.
Sounds good, especially if you can get support from xda.
CyanogenMod 11 listed under jellybean ROMs?
Your biggest issue is people dont really leave xda. Developer wise most are keen to stay here because support and friends are here i imagine. Also logistically trying to support even half the phones xda does and have it so organised into just what the phones are compatible with, along with paired Q&A + general threads would be immensely time consuming and would require more than a few people to keep up with the flow. Not even considering user mistakes with roms added in the wrong forum. While it would be a good idea i wouldnt attempt it. The mods are always willing to listen to new ideas to help keep the forums tidy though. Maybe try help out closer to home?

As I understand it there was a dispute with another dev and that lead to a dispute about whether or not his rom was original work. XDA moved it to the non original section and he decided to abandon the project.

Here in the Netherlands @atl4ntis was popular. The Dutch press praised him for his 'cataclysm mod'.
The bulk of the problem was that he claimed his work was all original, yet refused to provide evidence to back his claims. Before anyone starts in on the "Apache license doesn't require sources" line, I know he was within his rights to refuse to show his sources. However, if you don't show sources, how can you reasonably expect anyone to believe your work is original?
The XDA staff made the right call here. If you refuse to prove your work is original, your work doesn't get to be located in the Original Android Development forum. In any event, this will be a moot point going forward as all new devices will only have one development section. That said, the mods and/or admin should be going through all device forums that have both an Android Development and Original Android Development subforum, and merging the two subforums into one.

Folks - I've read great things about the Cataclyst ROM but found the official thread on it had been closed by an XDA moderator. If I install it and run into issues, would there be some people supporting it and what thread?
Thx
