Launch App Using it's GUID - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All, I'm working in a development project and I need to launch a specific app using only It's GUID ... It doesn't have a launch URI.
I heard there's a way to do that using ShellChromeAPI.dll, I really don't care if it passes the store or not, the app is made for personal use not for public, So it's Ok if there are Undocumented APIs .
If any one could help, I'd be really grateful.

It is not currently working on WP 8.1. I haven't had time to fool around with it and see if I can get it working.(I have a post at the end of the thread about a theory, but I can't recompile it as a Windows Phone 8.1-native app because I don't have a Windows 8.1 development PC, just Windows 7...and VS 2103 actually checks the OS it is running on to determine if you can develop WP 8.1 apps or not)

In theory it's possible using capability-unlock, but I haven't gotten that working yet.

Need testers for beta webcam chat

Since i couldnt post in the Android software dev forums, i will post here.
im making a webcam chat for android, and need testers with a nexus 7.
it is basically just a proof of concept at the moment, barely even a beta.
very minimal functionality, with some non-working features.
i would really appreciate it if people test this, and give feedback on what you do(nt) like, or would like to (not) see.

Hey, PM and I can help u
pc compatible chat
i have uploaded an old chat which is compatible with the current droidchat proof of concept.
the "beta" droidchat will probably begin with a new framework and server code, which this will not be compatible with.
if you have flash player in your browser, here is a PC version.
feel free to make your own rooms and invite your friends. you will be in the same room whether youre on pc or mobile!
PC version:
whohacked.me/oldchat_2010/
this is a chat i made for a client back in 2010 when i wasnt so savvy at flash, so it sucks ... the new one will be much better!
I have started a room called xdachat if anyone wants to join, for testing purposes. I will be leaving it on.
I have to say, the only things that jump out at me as problems is text under keyboard (op already mentioned this), needs to be multitask compatible, and better interaction with keyboard settings such as auto capital, which does not seem to work within the chat app.
Having said that, I actually really like the layout. Simple, intuitive and to the point. Sometimes, too much crap can be stuffed in to an app, whick can convolute its purpose. This app does not have that problem. Really liking the ease and simplicity.

awesome, i appreciate the feedback.
i am still working on the new framework, so it might be a few days before any updates. i will post any updates and new releases here.
i will be periodically popping in and out the room for testing. leave the room open on the PC if you want, hopefully more of you will come in so youre not testing by yourself. testing with just one person in the room may not bring out all the problems.
please keep testing, spread the word and bring your friends. the more feedback, the better.
thanks again.
P.S.
i am open to any design suggestions. i can do the code, but not the graphics.
if anyone would like to help develop this app, i could use some help. you must be proficient in ActionScript 3, and/or Apache FLEX (formerly Adobe FLEX).
the server is written in Adobe Flash Media Server's "Server-Side ActionScript".

i will also work on a portrait layout, and add an option to auto-rotate the nexus 7's camera when you change from landscape to portrait.

Android on Nokia lumia 620

Hello I am just asking if I can flash my Nokia lumoa620 to android if no tell why if yes tut or link please thank u
No you can't. There are no Drivers for the Hardware, no one has bothered to work on it and the most likely reason is that all WP8 devices use SecureBoot to make sure only signed OS code gets executed on the Hardware which (at the Moment at least) prevents any Kind of CustomROMs.
The Windows Mobile days are over. No Windows Phone device has ever been able to run another OS and it's likely to stay that way.

Nope. Windows devices are all protected and encrypted to hell and back. You'd be better off getting a separate Android device (consider a Nexus device, those are cheap and good for their cost), or finding replacement apps for WinPhone.

Yes, we heard of that. And it's not a Windows Phone device! It originally ran Windows Mobile (which is something completely different than Windows Phone) and was hacked to run other operating systems like android, and even Windows 8
The only reason the HD2 lasted so long, was because @coutulla was behind the hood. He had done everything he possibly wanted on that device. With him not interested in Windows Phone, you all can just wait for HTC and MS to work out the kinks for dual-boot phones. Go to WPCentral to figure out your self. My only remark: Nokia devices will not be able to run android, or vice versa, misc phones e.g. Motorola Droids will not run WP8. WP8 is device specific, while Android can float around a little more easy, but both Android and Windows Phone is dependent on the cellular radio and device specific drivers. It's a can 'o worms that we don't want to mess with, and the one that can to this type of work are going away from Windows Phone. Anyways, I'm not sure what ultrashot has been up to these days.
HD2 (Leo) was a Windows Mobile device (WinMo 6.5 was retroactively rebranded Windows Phone, but it bears no resemblance to the WP line). Although WP7 was successfully ported to the Leo, the hardware actually did not conform to the chassis specification for the OS; calling it a "Windows Phone device" is therefore more than a little disingenuous. Besides, even among WinMo devices, the Leo was absurdly multi-OS capable; most mobile devices are lucky if they ever get two different OS families running on them. Leo had WinMo, WP7, Android, desktop Linux, and a handful of others as well; the fact that this is notable makes it the exception which proves the rule that generally, it's not possible.

And only think that the bigger part of cotulla's projects weren't public released (windows embedded compact 7, apple stuff and so on ) I wonder what he is doing now..and where is the DFT (probably they are working on htc one). Anyway, I think that a dual boot between android and WP8 is not possible because of UEFI..android doesn't have it so it's impossible to make it boot if on the phone there's WP8. Cotulla made a long chain to make it possible: HSPL-MAGLDR(to run android)-UEFI MAGLDR(to run WP8) And HTC or any other manufacter will do something like that. Windows asked HTC to give a choice (Android OR windows phone)..I think that HTC refused because Microsoft asked even to Huawei and Samsung in any chase HTC is failing, probably will close soon..
Why are you doing this,Android is not smooth,I hate it,so I buy a windows phone to instead HTC Desire.

This question has been asked all the way back to the WP7 days and has been duplicated on this forum.. This is NOT possible. Your only option is to just buy an Android phone.
The main key is unlock bootloader, until we found it, i think it's almost impossible. Just my opinion.

So you installed and counted ALL the apps from WP marketplace and decided the count is just too small?
Samsung just did it with a new convertible laptop/tablet named Ativ Q. Seems that they could run Android on a VM over Windows 8. You can even put an android app link on the windows 8 desktop. Search it on youtube.

You don't need to count apps. Try to find a Google plus app or a good app.net app. Not possible. You have to go with webapps.
I'm very disappointed with WP8. It feels like Microsoft has already given up the platform and only Nokia is keeping it alive.

Ubuntu for Android App

On the Indiegogo page for the Ubuntu Edge, you can see a video of a proof of concept for the Ubuntu Desktop.
She used an app on a stock Nexus 4 (if I remember correctly, she says AOSP) and just launch it like that on Android and sent it to the screen.
Am I the only one who find this more amazing than running Ubuntu Touch on a Android phone ?
If you take a look at the size of the ARM Ubuntu version, you have a 500 MB file and I was wondering how Android can just load like that Ubuntu and run it along Android ?
Cheers.

As you point out, the video demonstrates a fully functional version of Ubuntu for Android. In the IRC channel, Ubuntu VP of engineering stated that U4A requires the Android OS to be modified slightly. I'm hopeful this process is unveiled soon and U4A becomes publicly available. It likely won't be very smooth on current commercially available hardware, and there's not really enough storage on an N4 to make it very practical, but it would still be nice to get a glimpse of computing convergence.
Thank you for your answer, is there any way to have access to this discussion ?
It seems pretty smooth on the video, which is surprising when you know the current hardware limitation on Android ...
For the storage, the cloud allows you to only download the file you need so it might not really be a problem.
I'm currently thinking about building a NAS to use it as a storage and download platform, it might be a custom solution for this problem.
Another option is my linuxonandroid project, see it as ubuntu for android but with just a one man team doing it in the spare time
Big plus side is we support a range of distros and are not limiting to Ubuntu
EDIT
Also note that the nexus 4 is a device I use and our up and coming LoA ROM will be on the Nexus 4 before you know it
The ROMs aim is to basicly do everything Ubuntu for Android can do and more!
Is this the app your talking about? I wanna try it but dont wanna install some bogus app lol

Just like my project they do not use a VM, they use native Chroot, which allows Linux to run on the Android kernel from within Android.
SO you get normal access to hardware and kernel features and no performance hit.
Then for the sharing its a mixture of both OS's having access to the same storage so music and files are viewable from both.
For app data shared acrossed it simply requires so work to pass this across from one side to another, something that could be done pretty easy and I have started working on myself
Nice thank you gonna give it a try tonight.

Okay, cool. I am extremely interested in this and I am a developer as well, so if there is anything you need tested or anything I can help you work on, please let me know.
I have a rooted Nexus 4 with sock jelly bean on it. I have played with installing Ubuntu Phone on it a few months back, but went back to android as I felt extremely limited in Ubuntu Phone.
I have the SlimPort® SP1002 from Amazon coming today. As I said before I would love to run it without the lag of VNC. Convergence is my main goal and I am so excited about Edge, but I want the Ubuntu for Android app for my Nexus 4 that I saw Leann talk about being already ready toady. Any idea of where/when we can get it?

Will you implement native chroot at some point too?
So now that the Ubuntu Edge campaign has failed, if/when do you think they will release Ubuntu for Android? I am going to get the new Nexus (Nexus 5?) and hopefully they will have it released for that phone.

How to run flash or html 5 on lumia 925

Hi guys .. just got this phone it quite nice ..
anyone knows how to run it ?

HTML5 works fine. Flash doesn't work any better than it does on iOS or Android (since the Android Flash version was discontinued years ago).
Some particular site you're trying to use? YouTube, for example, works fine if you use HTML5.

The version of Flash available for Android is very outdated and should not be used anymore; it's missing a bunch of security patches, among other things. If you have it installed, you should probably remove it.
On Windows Phone, I get the same speed running the SpeedTest app and using SpeedTest.Net on my laptop tethered through the phone. Sounds more like a problem with the Android app than anything else...
