Recovery keeps rebooting on me on my i537 - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok guys. I got the first ota att 4.2.2 update that caused my digitizer to stop working. So I came here looking to find a way to flash back. Well apparantly I flashed the boot loader. Not meaning to do this. It has left me in recovery boot. I have searched the forums, google, tried many different things. The pit file i found on here, everything. I have tried to adb sideload the ota update. But it reboots me out of recovery soon after it starts. Any who can help please do. I have searched and searched. Im not exactly what you call the problem other than soft bricking.

2910
and nothing from anyone?? has no one made this mistake before and able to get a fix or least can tell me what i need to search for. i don't know exact.

I have experienced a similar problem. The only solution that was successful for me was to download the Samsung Kies software and preform a emergency firmware recovery.

thanks for the reply. i have tried kids with no success. when i enter my model and serial number it tells me it is not valid. i know it is. i don't think kies can fix the ota update. maybe they can but it won't accept my model and serial number. i have the right drivers installed. but nothing

I'm assuming you've already used Odin as well then?

Yes I have. I have sent it somewhere to be fixed. He has told me the Knox did some kind if self destruct!!!!!

yay thanks ebay service
So I sent my soft bricked phone in for service. Now I get it back and it wont even power on. Talk about suck

[Q] Stuck on logo screen suddenly. Ideas?

Hi,
Last night my Galaxy S was low on battery, and I kept trying to turn it on for it to die right away (it was working as expected I guess)
This morning after I charged my phone it wouldn't turn on at all! It loads to the logo screen, makes that jingle sound and then holds and doesn't turn on.
I can get to recovery and download mode.
I put OCLF on like 2 months ago, but haven't modded/flashed ANYTHING since. It is very bizarre how it just died.
I'm wondering what my options are now. Obviously I would rather not loose all my personal files. Since I can get into download mode, can I just flash a new firmware? I'd like FroYo anyway, but I haven't got a clue what to do.
Great start to the year – !
Cheers,
Mitch
EDIT: I just decided to try the "Clear User Cache" option and then reboot to no avail. Now I can't get back into recovery mode!?!? Download mode still works. Huhh?? Is this expected? Have I lose Recovery Mode entirely now? Crap.
seeeems like an odin flash via the download mode is the only way. There are a few tutorials on this site and even tut vids on youtube so you should be fine if you just follow everything they do (as long as it works for them of course)
How do I know what version to flash? I have read a few tutorials and they all have started with "Dial x and check you have y" etc. Obviously I can't do any of that.
What is the *safest* firmware I can flash?
My phone currently has some optus variety.
Please forgive the noodish question.
Mitch
Where are you located? And who is your provider?
Hi,
I'm in Sydney Australia and my provider is Optus.
Thanks
Hi,
I still can't get my phone working and am not clear how to proceed.
What would be the best firmware to flash to my Optus Galaxy S that bricked out of the blue? Should I just send it back to Samsung?
Thank You

Hey mate go to samfirmware and get I9000DTJG4 thats the stock optus rom once you get phone up and running then upgrade to 2.2.1.
Sounds like you'll need to do a flash of a stock rom..
By the way, the old oclf had some issues that might lead to system corruption (unfortunately I'm not very sure exactly what it does, or whether it could lead to this problem). I'd suggest getting one of the newer lag fixes available here when you do get your phone running again

tragusman has got it right. Depending on what the issue is, you'll either recover nicely or your phone is toast. Flash the above stock firmware and give it a shot. Note that you'll likely loose your data and settings.
If you're new to flashing firmwares, check the great reference guide on where to find Odin and how to use it (this is the app you'll use to flash the above firmware).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
After flashing, try getting into recovery mode. If you can look for an error message under the standard menu. Can't get to d/l mode? You're probably in trouble. Get into recovery and see an error msg? Post the error here or google it for a solution. No error msg? You're probably ok - restart the phone.
Good luck.
Thanks guys.
I'm about to try it now, but before I start potentially breaking my phone even more, I was just thinking: Could I just send it back to Samsung? Would they fix it, or identify right away I have changed something and void my warranty.

If it's broke, you can't break it any more I've sent phones back in for support after flashing back stock firmware (flashing it after it "died").

[Q] Emergency Firmware Recovery

Hello
I hope i have posted in the right section and someone can explain too me if this is right or wrong.
I just downloaded the 2.0 version of samsung kies software, when i plugged my phone in it said i could do a firmware upgrade for my phone.
So of course i did so,i first done the backup which was an option in the process. Then pressed ok and it started doing its thing.
Well i left it and came back too see a green android guy on the phone and a message on laptop saying the update had failed and i need too recover the fail by going into emergency firmware recovery mode.
I did this(pressed yes) and it started doing its thing again and rebooted the phone, after it had done it said too disconnect and reconnect my usb cable which i did and the phone was back running again.
The question i have is what basically just happened?
I presume it was a fail on the firmware update since thats what it told me but on checking my stats it had done what it said it was going too and thats upgrade from CSC: JP5 to CSC: JP6.
So it said it failed but on the samsung kies software it now says the csc JP6 and i cant update any firther.
Im sorry i should maybe of checked the code better too be honest i didnt check the full version upgrade, i just thought ok firmware upgrade yup ill do that and flicked through the yes options til the upgrade started.
Thanks for any replies.I have a untouched samsung galaxy S by the way,i not done anything too it except installed apps and games. So no roms,no lag fix,no hacks at all.
Its been a coupleof days now since my post so hope its ok too comment in it again so maybe i can get some help.
Im not sure if my first post explained itself enough so if anyone has any questions i will be happy too answer them.I dont know if my phone will be affected long term but the fail or not.
Csc..what is this why had the software felt it needed too be changed from 5 to 6 ?
the fact it said it failed yet on checking i cannot update again and it has in fact changed from 5 to 6 as it said it would. All my added shortcuts on home screens went but the files stayed.
csc....has anyone also got the changed firmware like i have and gone through the failure too get it.
Im trying too add my own questions in the hope someone has some answers since i see many questions get answered in this section within no time, but mine seems too of stumped some.
thanks for replies guys it will settle my mind and i will of course try too find my own answers and if all else fails i will contact samsung and ask them what went wrong.
Hi,
I installed Kies today and connected my girlfriends cellphone, a Samsung Champ Duos (don't know if it's a phone only for the Philippino market)... Same here, started up first time and Kies prompted me to update the phone's firmware. I followed the steps, something went wrong and I was told to perform an emergency recovery.
I tried, but after 63% an error message appear telling me that something went wrong and "if the problem persists please contact support centre".
I've tried the recovery process maybe 20 times now and same every time. I have already sent an email to the support, but hoping someone here knows how to fix this in the meantime.
Thanks in advance!
Not sure Kies can be unreliable...
Have you tried another computer?
Try the recovery again but hold the usb cable in place, it may have a loose connection
Either way support should answer you shortly and they will sort it out, as it should be under warranty and kies messed it up. They will probably tell you to find your nearest service centre...
@Caz2k11 if you ever read this again and still haven't got your answer, it shouldn't have affected you that there was a problem installing in the first place.
CSC - there is a sticky on the the general section that describes most of this stuff but in brief i think its either country specific code or country service code, something like that. Really its only important if you have problems downloading things from the market, or reception/data related issues. Usually carrier related... Its worth checking you have the correct one when you update as it saves you from changing it later which results in a factory reset.
Ahh damn it...
Got a reply from their support this morning. They apologized and told me I have to send the phone to my nearest service centre. Great for me living in the province and I'll bet the closest service centre is located in Manila....
Does anyone know if the *original rom* is available somewhere on the internet?
Most of us do not use kies to update
You can fiind the latest original ROMs at samfirmware.com

Hehe no ****
I'm running Andriod on my HTC Leo as well, but this is my girlsfriends phone, still warranty so I'll be a bit careful at the moment.
Have registered on the site mentioned above, not sure which file I'm going to use or anything, since I cannot start the phone to see the current firmware etc. The model no. is GT-E2652W and "SSN" is "E2652WGSMH", does that mean it's a E-series phone?
It means a few things ...
First of all, you are totaly at the wrong place since this forum section is for Samsung Galaxy S, and you Champ Duo , well, isn't a Galaxy S !
Second thing is that this forum, as well as samfirmware, deal mostly with Android phones, which your isn't, I believe. It does somehow look like, but isn't.
Sorry I can't help more

Yes, I'm awared of that. Found this thread when I Google-searched "samsung emergency recovery".
Sure, no arm done, it's just that non android phone have a different way to recover. I did a couple of googling too, but must admit I did not find a great deal of information either,
Sorry and best of luck for bringing your device back to happiness.

Bricked my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Active i537. Advice?

I attempted going to my recovery mode and found a message saying "System software not authorized by AT&T has been detected on your phone." When you pay attention to the top left of Odin mode when you attempt to install, two red text lines appear. The first being "START [224, 1440]" and the next being "SECURE CHECK FAIL : recovery" I assume this is because AT&T detected something that was not supposed to be there.
The reason I believe AT&T detected something was because I attempted to flash a rom for Android 4.4.2 (Lollipop) using Droidviews tutorial (sorry, new user so I can't post the link :/) among others. This was with root access, which may have tripped the bootloader as well. I believe I was supposed to install a custom bootloader like TWRP or CWM beforehand (and I tried getting TWRP but it did not seem possible with AT&T's bootloader so I figured I may as well try it without and afterwards it would be easier); however, I never read any instructions in any of the websites I have used to root/update my phone that say I must have it so I am skeptical. Any guesses on how to fix it?
I also tried to flash the stock rom via Odin. Maybe it didn't have the "official" AT&T signature on it because I got the same error, but I looked anywhere I thought there may be a stock rom that would work. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Well that certainly helped, I never knew someone created an Odin exe for the stock rom. It seemed to be working up until the end but for some reason it stopped (I forgot to log why as I am still a newb at this; I think it tripped my recovery mode again). I rebooted it and an error appeared saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." This seemed simple enough until Kies just would not connect to my phone. I left it for about 10 minutes until an error appeared saying that my device is not responding. It told me to reboot it and try again, so that's what I did. It seems to be doing the same thing regardless. I tried troubleshooting a connection error and it reinstalled the Kies drivers (I did this countless times), but the same thing kept happening.

The one click seems to work well, but it never finishes completely. I cannot flash an OTA file as my bootloader is inaccessible. I may be able to do so from my computer but I have found no programs or guides to. Also, almost all of the downloads are down or outdated on the sticky with the exception of the ones I can't use.
Found the proper files to flash my phone successfully, the stickies were all outdated.

Samsung note 5 stuck in a boot loop

Hello,
I am a noob... My note 5 went into boot loop several days after installing Avira (after the last update my phone said I had a virus... I should have known better)... I have spent many days researching and trying different things... most advice came from XDA so I joined. I have learned a lot but still have no success.
Samsung says I need a new phone... the local store took out the battery with no luck... They said its a gonner. Really??
I can get the phone into download and have it talk to my PC, but that is it... I cannot get into recovery or reset the phone
I was able to downgrade to OK3 using odin and passed, but still boot loop
I have purchased software to recover data, but FRP has blocked it
I have tried many different ways to remove FRP, but all have failed... I don't think I ever put this phone in debugging mode so I think that is why the other things have failed.
Is there anything I can do? Can you point me in the right direction (as long as it is not the trash can)
Please help.
Since you can get into download mode , have you tried to flash a full firmware package (make sure of model number first) via Odin ? sammobile has most firmwares. I would start with that. Good luck
Thank you so much for responding... I flashed ok3 from one of the links posted on this site using Odin and it passed successfully, but did not fix the problem. What would be the full firmware pack and were could I find so I know I have the right one

Just use smart switch. You don't have to worry about which firmware to be flashed. It will decide for you.

I tried that before with no success, but since Smart Switch had an update I tried it again... It says it does not support my SM-N920P.
I tried emergency rescue and it recognized my model number, but says I entered the wrong SN... I pretty sure I am entering the right SN

Stuck in a boot loop can't get into recovery

Hi,
Just received my note 9 and downloaded the latest firmware. Installed via odin. One of the files failed so I redownloaded the file and updated just the AP. I probably should have done all files. It installed fine but i'm now stuck in a boot loop.
I can't get into recovery with ether volume up, bixby and power. I just get a blue screen with an android on its side?
Any tips. Very worried the phone is bricked. Hoping I don't have to wait for the battery to die as that could take a couple of days.

At this point, your only two options are EDL (emergency download mode) which technically requires you to crack op the device and mess with the board inside of the device, or just a warranty replacement if you haven't tripped Knox.
Ok thanks for the info. I was only trying to install the latest stock firmware via odin so i'd hope Knox wasn't tripped.
Interestingly my SM-N9600 doesn't have any serial number on the back. When I took it to samsung to see if they had any special tools they wouldn't touch it because they said it was a refurb phone.
I'm wondering if the refurb is infact not a SM-N9600 which would be why the flashing a new recovery bricked the phone.

Well, that's a crap move by them. I know for sure that they have a proprietary software that can revive pretty much any Samsung phone as long as it's not hard bricked. They could've just flashed it and helped you. I have a friend who works for Samsung and I have seen him use that software at best buy once. I mean, you've spent your own money to use their phone after all. I don't know why it matters if it's just software.
