First of all search, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618222 here you can find flashing procedures. For custom kernels look in original development subforum.

Failed Kernel Flash, Locked Bootloader (I think)

Hi. I just followed the instructions to install the Overcome Kernel and it failed. Now my phone shows a phone ! pc screen. I tried flashing with a pit and original rom but on odin it failes on kernel. What do I do? I'm so worried that I might have bricked it.
EDIT! Got it to boot to normal by just reflashing pit by itself. Used the apk bootloader check and found out my bootloader is locked, unlocked and now installing a custom rom.

[Q] Unable to flash stock kernel :(

I have a x8 unlocked bootloader and rooted .
I have already download the stock kernel .ftf file and flashed it using flashtool for my xperia x8 which is running xperience walkman mod 1.0 but it was no luck ... i tried to flash stock rom first but cwm would not flash it
i did tried to flash the kernel but i boot up it will just stuck at the sony ericsson logo and i am unable to enter recovery ..
Can anyone help me?
Flash stock kernel and use seus
Sent from my X8 using XDA
To the best of my knowledge, you can flash kernels only via flashtool. CWM won't help. And the kernel .ftf file must have a loader.sin in addition to a kernel.sin when viewed via flashtool.
I remember a day I flashed my X8 37 times within 24hours! At times, it would get temperamental & fail to boot beyond the SE logo screen for reasons it alone knows. Cheer up. And get flashing!
Hmmm... i dont want to use SEUS because by then i would have to reroot and even unlock bootloader again i tried couple of times to flash the stock kernel but my phone just stuck at the se logo

Which kernel are you tried to flash? You can use flashtool to flash your kernel, and install ROM with CWM! If you are flashing aNa kernel, CWM is already built-in. If you still struck at SE logo, mean your kernel is not flash yet.

Well, there's actually still ADB but it carries a certain amount of risk. With flashtool, most of that is obviated. If you need more information, scout the Android Development section for related topics.
Search in the Flashtool post the list of official firmwares, and flash one of these (yes, only that )
If the links are dead, send me a PM and I will give you the ftf that I have
I do have the .ftf file and flashed it.. but my phone will just stuck there

You CAN or CANT access download mode ? If you can, simply flash a stock ROM via ODIN.

Yes I can, I tried to downgrade to GB but it failed as well :/
I don't really clearly understood your issue.
But if you want to flash a Stock ICS Rom, start ODIN PC, start your SGNote in download mode (button volume down + home + power), then connect your SGNote to your PC and flash via ODIN PC.
If you don't know exactly how to use ODIN PC, check tutos on the forum.

When you say "it failed" you are going to have to be more specific. Please give us an error message. Did you get a NAND write start and factoryfs.img and it just freeze after that in Odin?

Reinstall your ADB/USB drivers, make sure you're using USB2.0 port - for me USB3.0 always results in failed flash, ultimately switch USB ports.

The file you download from dr. Ketan is a .rar file, unzip it once and you get a .tar file. Flash that file with Odin in pda section. So don`t unzip the .tar file again.

The problem was the ROM itself

To start with - you need root to flash this custom ROM, so unrooting your device was a mistake, you have to root it again.
Now, i've never flashed Criskelo's ROM, but from what i've read in the thread, you need to root your device, flash Chainfire's ICS repack via mobile odin, and then flash criskelo rom via CWM. Do not unpack the .zip file, you need to point CWM to that file.

When you boot into recovery, is it CWM recovery?
If you are talking about not seeing the CWM app, don't worry about that.

So you have to flash the CWM.zip file found in drketan's thread in android development.

Please help! I keep getting bricked!

I installed many roms (I have used before) with following instructions (Installed without any errors) but my phone gets stuck on Samsung screen in each case. When I tried to restore backup of those roms (I make backup of all roms when I install them) I always get "Error in flashing boot.img". I flashed XXLF3 and XXLA2 (PDA.tar) FW via Odin and still the problem persists, I even flashed the original FW I made during rooting my phone and still this problem is coming. This problem occurred after installing Deodexed XXLI1 s5830i By Alucard1989pl ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957326 ). I tried to installed Jellyblast V3, Simplicity V2.1, AndroidScream V1, GingerCream V2. Niether of them works (They did earlier). Please help me.
EDIT: When I put phone on Download Mode I only see a black screen, But I can see the COM4 In Odin and I can flash FW's but is there any way to fix this? (I tried re-flashing with Odin)
I think your boot is damaged. You have to flash the bootloader not the pda file.
so go to download mod then press volume up you should see the com then start.
You shouldn't restore the boot.img from an older kernel version. It's mentioned in Rafael's kernel thread.

Just flash any GB kernel after that and you'll be fine. Search for cocore 4.1 for GB.

No you don't need to unlock the bootloader as iur device is practically made unlocked. So yeah it is unlocked already. Just flash the official 4.1.2 JB samsung firmware. No root needed.

We do not have to unlock bootloader.
Install CoCore kernel, you will get custom recovery. And install ROM with it.
1. ROOT.
2. CoCore.
For first install of CoCore do this: Install Universal kernel flash, and some explorer with root permissions like Root explorer or ES file explorer. Download CoCore zip, unpack it and use kernel.bin.md5 file with Universal kernel flash. After that you will get CWM or TWRP (depends what CoCore version you choose). From that part you can change kernel by installing its zip from recovery.
3. Download JB custom ROM, copy to phone - and install it from recovery.

You do not need to do it again, but you could. Because there are some other files in that zip - and those are not being installed with Universal kernel flash.

When you flash stock JB firmware (not ROM) you get all stock, ready to pass warranty.
If you want to go to GB, you need to follow guide how to do that. Because you will get bootloop if you just flash GB from Sammobile.

Firmware is untouched system, for flashing with Odin. And ROM is modded files that can be installed with custom recovery. In short.
