[ROOT] HTC M8 Mini (Mini 2), Android Kitkat 4.2.2 - HTC One Mini 2

Hi All,
I've just rejoined the forum after some considerable time off, it's good to be back.
I have just purchased the HTC One M8 Mini (aka HTC One Mini 2). With the sea of content on the web for the M8 I'm shocked that I'm unable to find any working method to get the M8 mini rooted. None of the custom recoveries for the M8 appear to work (I've tried CWM, PhilZ & TWRP inc. the Sprint versions).
The bootloader unlocked with no problems using the M8 entry, but the recoveries just wont play ball. They will flash, but the bootloader wont boot into the recovery image and just boots back to the HBOOT splash screen.
There is literally nothing on the web. It might be too soon after the release to have anything ported but though i'd get ball rolling.
Thanks in advance.
..eredn..

I am also frustrated about the situation. The owners of this forum don't like the mini version. The not buyable E8 gets a forum, the available Mini 2 not. And without their own forum also no software for the Mini 2 is published.

Thanks for the reply
I may find myself on an Android development course fairly soon then
One thing I have managed to do though is screw my signal up, I keep getting 'No Service' and the X above the signal bars. I've read into it a little and looks like my phone number and MEID are zero'd out. Have you come across this before?
If you have one too, could you check if your details are the same as mine and provide a nandriod if so?
cid: ORANG001
version-main: 1.16.61.2
The commands are:
fastboot getvar version-main
fastboot oem readcid
That may help me get back the stock recovery as I'm a little stuck at the moment and cannot factory reset

ITS BACK!!
ok, I've got my signal back.......
The fix was...wait for it...Turning Airplane Mode 'On' then 'Off'. This brought up the message 'Preparing SIM' and the signal returned. I'm not sure what will happen if I reboot, but I've just bought a nano sim adapter so I can put/test my sim in my SGSII if I screw this up again. I'm not touching this again until Tuesday when that arrives.
My MEID and Phone Number still display as all zeros (0000000000000) but it would appear that this is usual for GSM models.
I will use this thread as a bit of a project thread and post my findings with the Mini 2 and hope I find a small community of users to bounce off.#
Regards

On my phone all works fine. Have you tried to enter your APN data manually?

That's because they're not for the Mini 2. You'll have to wait for a custom recovery to appear for your model

And where will this custom recovery will be posted? The is no mini 2 forum. In contrast, devices get a forum that you can not even buy. How is this determined?

Probably best to ask TWRP or Philz to make you one but I wouldn't hold out hope...
Here's the TWRP contact page:
http://teamw.in/contact

Philz needs the (not existing) CM Source for this device and TWRP don't answer, but I think they have the same problem.

no, just using geo hot app.

Hi Dabman,
Did you use v1 or v2 ? I tried v2 but is not working. Did you something special ? I don't understand why it works for you and not for the others
Thank you.

You mean V1 will work? I only tried V2.

I tried both but no one is working...

I'll have to try this when I get back from Sri Lanka. I'm sure it won't be long until we get root on our Mini2's ?

[Q] Unroot and full restore

Hi all, First Time poster/thread starter.
I have got my HTC one, Have the Bootloader Unl;ocked, S-On, and is rooted. I am running the Android Revolution HD 3.3 ROM, which is AWESOME - so a shout out to Mike1986.
I want to unroot the decive and have it restored to the firmware it was sent to me with (Vodafone UK) as i need to have it sent back as the battery is definitely over heating on the phone when its screen is off and doing nothing, however it is fine when i am using the phone to make calls or send texts or emails.
Mainly have root to freeze the useless things the network operater adds on which burnb battery.
at the moment the battery is not too back as yesterday i used the phone a lot and squeezed out 17hours of with 40% still left.
Main issue is the battery heat which is slightly worrying.
All of you will have more experience and knowledge then I do, I have searched the forums and all over the net for a solution to have it reverted back, there is one guide but that does not work, i have tried and tried.
Any guidence and help would be highly appreciated as it will enable me to send back the phone to get it sorted or swapped for another one - potentially the black one as the silver is not too much to my liking.
Thanking in advance.
apologies if in wrong place - i think I have put this in the right place.

Could you please elaborate as I've got a similar issue. I've got a UK non branded M7 (CID HTC__001 if it helps) but the RUU for Europe (after locking bootloader) keeps aborting the restore saying Error 155. I'm on Android Revolution 3.5 with CWM Touch recovery.
How did it work for you?
Thanks

New HTC One user. Just two requests.

Hello there
I ordered a 32GB HTC One which is coming in about an hour and since I had a HTC One X before, I know that installing ROMs and such isn't as easy as it is on my Samsung Galaxy SIII. I am pretty sure the CID of my HTC One is going to be HTC__J15 like the One X (since that's for the whole Middle East) and so I was wondering what the latest JellyBean is for my device? Is it 4.1.2 or 4.2.2? And speaking of which, I found this website posted on this forum:
http://bugsylawson.com/files/category/49-m7/
But unfortunately I don't understand that codes affiliated with regions and such and any help would be much appreciated.
The phone I ordered is slightly used, only for 4 days, and with local warranty but I would like to install (or re-install if there's no newer JellyBean) the software so I can set it up as a new phone, and I am guessing that's done using the RUU, correct? And if so, which one should I use? I would like to completely format the device and set it up from the start.
And one final thing, would someone be able to link me to an easy rooting guide? And do I get the unlock token using HTC's developer section of the website and use fastboot like I did with HTC One X?
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your time.

First of all I would just do a factory reset, assuming it is a factory default rom, and then leave it for a week or two to get used to it before going down the route of unlocking etc. Read through the One forums to learn all you can before customising.
There is a good guide here for unlocking, rooting, etc manually http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
A useful All-in-One toolkit to guide you through the process here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183942
Look through the One Android Development forum and you will find several custom Roms available which would be suitable for the International Version of the One http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2119
You will need a custom rom as once rooted and unlocked you won't be able to use an RUU nor will you be able to get HTC or carrier OTA updates.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I am going to use the phone as it is for a while and see how things work out. I would really like to install the bulletproof kernel which enables the HTC logo as a capacitive button because I am not liking the idea of the two buttons - I am just too used to having three.
The One is as easy to root and ROM as any other device. You DO NOT need to be concerned with the CID or RUU if you download Mikes stock 4.2.2 ROM. Its dead stock (with the option to root) and works without needing to change the CID or flash an RUU

Yeah I have used Android Revolution HD on several devices before and it is the perfect ROM. I already unlocked the bootloader and am in the process of installing recovery as well as downloading and installing ARHD. I was able to locate the Bulletproof kernel which enables the HTC logo as a menu button and it seems like the installation is done from recovery, very simple, is that really the case or is there more to it?

Its easy to flash the kernel but beware as these kernels are not based on the newest or even second newest source so it will decrease performance slightly when you compare apples to apples

Stuck in HBoot

Hi, I have searched and I have tried, reaching out...
Desire C Cricket HBOOT 1.63 Radio 0.92.00.0903 Unlocked Bootloader S-On
I was trying to put a recovery on and root after unlocking bootloader and for whatever reason I cannot get into any recovery other than stock. Once in stock I cannot flash anything. Only thing I could tell was previous owner had a customer kernel on it but now I cannot get past the HTC red writing screen.
Normally in this situation I would go back to stock via PL01DIA.zip update in bootloader but I cannot find a viable one for this specific device.
OK, somehow got a working CWM Recovery. But I cannot get any roms to boot past the HTC red writting screen. Does anyone out there have a full CWM backup of a working Cricket rom?

Thanks guys! Sorry for bugging around this forum. Anyone with CDMA ping me, I'm not finding any friends I need a clean back up of any Cricket rom from CWM since it looks like the RUU was never made.
Or, if anyone knows how to change the CID on this phone without S-off. Just looking to make it an MP3 player.

[Q] Sprint ROM on C Spire CDMA HTC ONE

I have a 32GB HTC One with C Spire Wireless. It is also CDMA with the designation m7_wls. My question is, can you flash Sprint ROMS on another CDMA One and still retain carrier files for data, 4G, voice calls etc? I haven't owned a HTC product in quite some time and I am used to nothing but Samsung flashing procedures. I know that others on XDA with C Spire HTC One's have used the Sprint files for rooting and for flashing custom recoveries without issue but does this also work with ROMS? Currently there are no nandroids, C Spire RUU files or update.zips available to C Spire users. Back in the day when I used the HTC Hero and Samsung Galaxy S, all the ROMS I used were based off Sprint. Any assistance is appreciated.

I have the same problem. I to have the HTC one (cspire) & seems we have been left out
of the htc one support. I do have mine unlocked & rooted. I want to get s-off

Sprint roms should work, just a matter of changing the APN. i will be trying it soon

Let me know how it goes. One of the things that I was concerned about was that HTC should be releasing a 4.4 OTA soon and from what I've heard, you need the stock recovery to get the OTA. Since there isn't a flashable stock recovery for C Spire users, I don't see how we will be able to return to stock and update. I walked in to C Spire with my mind set on the Galaxy S4, partly because of it's very active development community, but when I went in the store and held the HTC One, I knew I had to have it. I knew when I got this phone there was little to no development for it, but I was very impressed with the phone. Maybe after a few months some new things will pop up

Do not flash any sprint roms!!!, back in September last year, i foolishly did this and to this day i am still trying to find the correct rom, i did not make a back-up i know that was stupid, i would hate to see you guys make the same mistake. the phones are the same model but very different. the sprint rom constantly reboots, I have tried dozens of roms, they all had the same outcome, i dream of the day when i can get this phone to work. So in theory, C Spire users can flash Sprint Roms so long as we include some specific C Spire files in the Rom?

The HTC one is no different. Uses the same exact model. Even the radios are exactly the same.

Could you please help me ? How do i find suitable RUU for this device ? could you give me path, I have tried with HTC\US website, but could not update.
Hello,
I move your thread from XDA Assist to the correct section.
Flash the latest Firmware from here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
6.20.651.3 Modified Firmware...removed boot & recovery (fastboot flashable) for non Harmon Kardon
or
6.20.654.3 Modified Firmware...removed boot & recovery (fastboot flashable) for Harmon Kardon
Follow the instructions in the thread above to flash correctly.
Then run the matching RUU and you should be updated to MM.
Do at your own risk...please read and understand what you will be doing before starting.
Sidenote you can use either version because you are s-off and supercid. If you do indeed had the Harmon Kardon Edition if you decide to use the non H/K firmware and RUU you may loose some audio quality.
If i try this RUU, will my mobile get block ? because I am in India and my Device is form US.
Could you tell me how to start update step by step when UNLOCKED S-OFF and CID 111111111

No, using official RUU should not block your sim. However if the battery is very low or the phone gets really hot, sometimes the phone blocks the Sim.(you will have to downgrade back since you are soff and unlock again the sim)
Regarding the step-by-step, it's there in the thread @Sloth linked in his reply.
Side note to read for entertainment: Something which I do and is DANGEROUS is place the phone ON a SEALED ice pack, and place some layers of tissue papers between to absorb any dew precipitating on the ice pack. Do this at your own risk and CLOSE observation. This may seem funny or ridiculous, but the whole process might take 30-60 minutes, and if the phone is plugged in and gets hot, it can even damage the battery.

hey guys i have the same issue. same version and everything. how did you manage to get the latest upgrades? and i have already tried using custom rom from both wolla and viper. both got installed without any hiccups but the wifi wont work in anyone of them. also the phone gets moderately warm during normal operations and considerably hot. are you guys facing the same issue. pls help.
Same problem but my phone is showing locked in fastboot.
Same problem but my phone is showing locked in fastboot.
you know guy i also have the same phone and i tired updating it with cyanogemod 13 nightly and yes you do get working wifi and mobile network everything working but there is a huge downside to this. you dont get the camera effects of htc and boomsound is missing. on using outdoors the phone becomes like a heater, it can literally boil water. and when phone heats up battery performance reduces. so do it at your own risk. what i have understood this far after installing number of custom roms is that we need updated firmware. so i am trying that after watching videos and reading procedures to do so. if at all it works i will post it here. otherwise i am seriously thinking of buying a new phone. as with cm 13 this premium phone becomes like any other motorola phone(pure android experience)
need help on my m8 pls
I am also using a sprint s-off htc m8 and recently upgraded to latest firmware and official sprint RUU. now sprint logo pops up and is loaded with some app called sprint zone. I want to use the phone in india. Pls help
