[Q] Touchless control and active display is not working for CyanogenMod on my moto x - Moto X Q&A

Hi guys,
I recently flashed new CyanogenMod 11 on my moto x and I lost active display and touchless control app can anyone tell me how do I get back these two app

You don't.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the only ROMs that have Touchless & Active are stock-based ROMs. So AOKP, AOSP, PA, & CM ROMs do not have these features.

I tried using Peekbut not as good as stock AD

I installed peek and it worked but it's not so great as stock. Is there no rom's that support stock Active display and touchless?

That the reason i stay with the stock rom. But just wondering which specific features do you want of CM?, because you can implement nearly all with modules on Xposed Framework, especially with GravityBox.

Ya I have xposed and gravity box which is good but not accurate lik the stock one :/.
I am getting back to stock now having location issue and exchange servers and camera not working well on Cynogenmod 11

There is a Play store app that is similar to active display I believe, but that is the best you'll get.

And it will use far more battery, as it won't run off the low voltage core.

If you just want to flash ROMs but keep Moto features you should check out Eclipse or Krypton. Also checkout Faux kernel (not a rom but still modding fun and great battery life boost got me). AOSP implementation of active display is pretty awful compared to native active display, in my opinion.

Will v give that a try. Right now I'm in PAC ROM and so far it's good but still as you said native active display is the best

I tried using PAC for a few days. The battery drain for me was terrible. Every time I pulled my phone out of my pocket the screen was on. I think I screwed up by having active display and their notification screen enabled. Additionally, the 'blame the split screen' crashes were amusing the first few times but quickly became infuriating.
I'm currently trying out slimrom on my moto x. It doesn't have active display, but it's probably the smoothest rom I've used on the phone. I'm using an app from the Play Store, DynamicNotifications, which is a better option, imo, verse the built in AOSP version (which I believe is based on AcDisplay, but I could be completely wrong about that).
I'm going to give slim a try for a few days, but I don't think anything will work as well Eclipse.
If you're set on an AOSP rom, give slim a chance. If you want a feature packed AOSP rom, check out LiquidSmooth (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/rom-liquidsmooth-v3-1-moto-x-ghost-t2781356). I think LS has the same features or almost the same features as PAC, but it didn't crash nearly as much on my device. I actually made it a full week before switching back to Eclipse.

I will try LS this time

[q] JVU compared to ICS

Hiya,
I'm considering whether to use a JVU or ICS rom. By looking around, I've seen many threads talking about how great ICS has with new features and so on, so this is probably a big plus point. However, I'm just wondering if there are still unresolved issues with ICS, it being based on an unofficial rom?
I know a while ago CM/MIUI were considered development roms, and not stable releases. Does this still hold true? Also, are there any features which ICS roms still have been unable to implement vs stock JVU? (eg tethering, gps, camera and so on).
Thanks!
If you want all features and stable rom then its recommended to use jvu.
Ics is very good but you have to sacrifice some features like video calling and touchwiz features. I haven't experienced any problems yet. Camera GPS tethering etc work fine on ics. I would recommend AOKP or CM9
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I also want to know the same issue before I move to ICS.
What is main benefit of ICS Roms even though many features are not functional like GB Roms ?
If you want a completely functional ROM (all features are working), then you better go for JVU since in ICS some features like video call and other minor things here and there are not working. Also, they're not based on unofficial release, most of them are based on google's releases (AOSP) which are official in a way or another, just not from the phone manufacturer themselves.
Personally i found ICS ROMs better due to the overall user experience, and they're smoother on the long run as compared to other JVU ROMs i've been using.
My advice is that if you don't really mind sacrificing minor features like video call (which most people don't really use anyway), go for ICS ROM! A lot of them got the tethering working alr. Gps, wifi, and other essentials are confirmed working perfectly

My understanding is that because it's not from Samsung, the ICS roms had to rewrite the drivers for hardware components like gps, camera or stuff like that from scratch, which is why there may be stuff not working.
I'm ok with no video call (since i've never used it), but are there any other features missing? Or are the minor things like random FC, or some small things just don't work properly. I find things like that somewhat annoying, so I'd rather stick with JVU if that's the case
Stuffs like random FCs and other not working minor things really depends on the ROMs. So far i found no random FCs apart from the camera which is the past anw (they fixed the stock ICS camera issue alr). If the devs or the bug reports never really mention any FCs, there's a high chance that you'll get a very smooth ROM (maybe there're things that are not working properly but chances are you won't realize it )
Also, most of the people who complained in the threads and bugreports never really followed the installation instructions properly which leads to their 'not supposed to be there bugs' coming to the phones.
By now most of the features of the ICS ROMs are working alr (obviously excluding those alpha and beta releases). The minor issues that you'll most likely get are with apps compatibility tho, a lot of the apps in the market are still not fully supporting ICS, so yeah.
My advice is that just follow the devs instructions thoroughly and you'll get a 95% chance of not encountering any problems with the ROMs . Don't blame me tho if you found troubles alr with your first ICS ROM later (if you decided to try it out )
How's battery life compared to stock roms? I think ICS roms usually don't last as long right? Any idea what a rough % amount less it lasts? (eg 20% shorter batt life or something)
If I have to give a percentage, abt <=10% less than the stock GB ROMs on average, tho mostly it depends on your kernel and usage.
The correct governor, kernel, and settings will be 50% (from my pov) of the deciding factor whether your battery lasts or not. Coz sometimes my battery actually lasts longer than when on stock GB ROMs. Personally I don't really like the stock ROM since they don't really offer me a good battery life considering the performance and free memory they've been giving me.
Personally I just started to try a bunch of different roms. For me the no1 priority is the ROM has to be stable. No FC, as little lag as possible and no random restarts. The ICS-roms I used had more problems than the Gingerbread-ROMS, allthough the speed in the latest ICS-ROMS is very good.
I'm currently still using Mintberry. The moment I go to ICS will depend on when Mintberry goes ICS. If it ever does, that is. I love the look&feel of ICS, but will not trade in stabillity for looks.
Both ICSSGS 4.2 and Dark Knight 3 are stable, everything ive used seems to work, even skype, so that ticks video calling as-well.

DPI ISSUE
I recently flashed w/ ICS slim 2.8.
I observed that my Screen resolution is altered to DPI 182, meaning got bigger than 480x800 now.
Some Apps, such as IGO, have no suitable resolution for the new screen size.
I wanted to change to DPI 240 hoping to return to 480x800 but it crashed..
Keep in your mind that some apps are not running in ICS Roms..

This, you have to use spirit FM. under settings set regional band to your region and set audion to -galasys ALSA/ICS.
Make sure you dont just quit the app either, you need to press the power button for the app in the bottom right corner everytime you leave it.
I've tried flashing ICSSGS, just a couple of features that stock has that I was wondering if ICS had some equivalent:
Is there a mod somewhere to show battery % instead of the battery icon on the top right?
Is there a quick way to toggle vibrate/sound? Stock had an option from the lockscreen, and also the pulldown notification menu
Is there some special procedure to set ringtones/alarm as music files? I seem to only see system sounds when I try to change it
Thanks!
Widgetsoid in market/play store gives ability to add widget into notification bar with toggles for what ever you want. You just need to set it up right.
I asked about the battery percentage display and eventually found the link myself. Will find it for you and post it in a moment

recaf - CAF enhanced AOSP for Xperia SP

Hello Boys and Girls,
Everyone at XDA loves AOSP based projects. However AOSP is designed only for the Nexus devices. For most other devices, a significant ammount of extra code needs to be added for them to run properly. For Qualcomm devices, most of this extra code is supplied by the Code Aurora Forums. Here you can find a variant of AOSP that is not only designed specifically for Qualcomm based devices, but it also includes various tricks and enhancements.
So today I'm introducing a little project I've been cooking up for myself, which might also be interesting for other Xperia SP users.
It's called recaf - adding the CAF optimizations back into your AOSP rom.
This is now based on Android 4.4 KitKat. On the surface, it looks almost exactly like pure AOSP as provided by Google. You wouldn't know just by looking at it, but under the surface there are lots of changes to dalvik, the frameworks and the hardware drivers to massively improve battery life.
However, pure AOSP sometimes feels a little bit featureless compared to advanced roms such as CyanogenMod, so I have included a few basic tweaks that I feel make life easier when using an AOSP-like rom:
CyanogenMod camera app - because AOSP camera app is rubbish
CyanogenMod cLock widget - because it's actually pretty nice
Integrated Superuser - it's right there in the settings menu!
exFAT and NTFS - needed for larger SDCards
Multicoloured notification lights - AOSP gives us white lights only
Quick settings - easily accessible by swiping down the right side of the status bar
Advanced reboot - Always available in the power menu
ADB and SU security - root access is disabled by default
So without further delay, here is your download link:
recaf-4.K1-20131212-huashan.zip
recaf-4.K1-20131207-huashan.zip
recaf-4.K1-20131202-huashan.zip
recaf-4.K1-20131129-huashan.zip
recaf-4.K1-20131127-huashan.zip
I assume you will also want to install GAPPS, the version I recommend is the FULL version created by the Paranoid Android team from THIS THREAD.
For your first install you will need to flash the boot.img from inside the zip - SELinux changes for Android 4.4 will cause the zip to fail on other recoveries.
If you want to chat about recaf, join the Freenode IRC chat room #recaf.

Known Major Bugs
Location services are currently broken for certain apps. fixed in 4.K1.
GSM data sometimes (very rarely) randomly disconnects until reboot - I need help to determine what causes this. If you can reliably reproduce this, let me know.
Android RunTime (ART) will fail at boot time fixed.
Known Minor Bugs
WiFi does not connect to WPA secured networks. WPA2 security works as expected.
For Superuser to work you need to change ADB access to apps and adb (in developer settings)
Language does not change in some parts of Android, most notably the Settings app. Most other apps work fine and I didn't touch the language code, so this is a CAF bug I will need to fix.
Custom notification colours for missed calls and voice mail don't work
LED on charging sometimes gets stuck when disconnected until reboot.
These are features, not bugs
Facebook sync cannot be activated.
Quick Settings poll
I created a poll about Quick Settings (discuss it there)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550027
some feedback,
flashed rom+gapps= setup wizard FC
flashed rom=boot then reboot then flash gapps= profit
seems like integrated SU is not working properly for me though
Downloading...
One question though, did you manage to fix the "Phone" app battery drain issue?
Ahh yes the setup wizard will crash due to the above bug. You can skip it by pressing the four corners of the screen, start top left then go clockwise.

@adfad666 thank you so much for sharing this rom! I have decided to switch to this one as my daily driver, pure stock 4.3 jellybean just the way i like it battery life is significantly better than cm10.2 and lag is non existent. Looking forward to future updates/bug fixes and of course AOSP kitkat roms!
Bug report: The notification light doesnt seem to work when charging via usb but works for notifications. Also, even though ive changed the notification lights to custom color values it still blinks white
ive attached a logcat below hope it helps.
Going to test this out as I'm currently running PAC and my battery ran out in 6 hours with 1 hour tops screen time. Hope this is better like the previous comment stated. Will post a small review afterwards.
Ok first off: battery life seems to be A LOT better than CM10.2/PAC.
Doesn't have SU installed by default, so I had to flash it.
Seems to be smoother than PAC. Might be placebo effect though.
1 question as well. Is there a way to enable facebook sync? I did it on CM10.* with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064859, but the CM10.2 apk doesn't work with AOSP

Super user is for sure installed, but I think you need to enable developer settings for it to work. It's the exact same code as for CyanogenMod ( I didn't even fork it I just link to their projects) and I think super user is hidden and disabled there until developer mode is enabled. I'll add the code like CM has to hide it unless developer mode is enabled.

-I suffer a reboot when i start the camera for first time -> The screen turns purple and like "melted" and after that turns off. And later turns on again (reboot). Note: i've this bug in CM10.1 and CM10.2 when i was playing HD videos.

It helped for me. I had to open Xposed framework app again and to reinstall the framework parts, reboot- and it looks like GG works again.
It's always been the case that the framework had to be reinstalled and it does reactivate GB, but the QS tiles are still messed up. Are you saying you're not having this problem?

True that. It was working on N4 up until the 12/9 update. I tried reinstalling GB and restored data from a Titanium backup and it seemed to work... until I rebooted again. Ah well, I can live without those tiles if everything else is working.

Yup. While I am a big fan of Xposed, and GravityBox is awesome on devices without custom firmwares, use of either of them is an unsupported configuration that is invalid for bug reports.

I read somewhere that 4.4.1 broke GB.

The main reason I installed Gravity Box is because of the customizable QS tiles and the lockscreen shortcuts. I believe sooner or later these features will be implemented on OmniROM. Then I won't have the need for it.
If your tiles are messed up after restarting / updating, try to disable Gravity Box from Xposed framework app, clear the Gravity Box settings, reboot, re-enable Gravity Box, reboot again, customize Gravity Box and try not to restart the phone again because you will face the problem again.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't. But I doubt it's up high on priority list...
Another reason to use GB is their circular battery has the correct kitkat color (not always 100% white) and it's vertically aligned with the rest of the icons.
I noticed that toggles, that mess up are "flippable" ones. I don't use that exclusive feature of omnirom, so it would be very nice if developers added checkmark in settings that would disable this feature.
p.s. Hoped that new 4.2.2 omni update will fix this problem, but it didn't.
p.s. 2. If you want to use other features of GG, just don't touch quick toggle settings, or they will mess up after reboot
I noticed this also and it was asked about in the t-mobile note II omnirom thread. Someone said that if you disable the module, reboot, clear app data, re-enable the module, reboot, then just leave all the tiles as is (for example, don't modify anything) then the tiles survive a reboot. Kinda defeats the purpose, since you can change anything but at the very least all the tiles still work and you can still flip them without it breaking. Hopefully it gets fixed soon
The title of this thread is not entirely correct. Omni didn't break GB; KitKat is moving forward, 4.4.2 is progressing and GB is an xposed module that's not keeping up the pace for now (not that it should, thought).
Native customization will be coming soon, I believe. Omni devs are working on the foundations, we can't ask from them to drop that to get their hands on customization right now. But it's on the roadmap, and considering how fast they brought us a clean code and stable KitKat, that will probable come fast.
For now, we got other options too. For example, there are apps that bring toggles to the notification drawer without needing xposed.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Title for this thread should be "Latest nightlies doesnt work with a mod that is recommended not to be used with omniRom"
Sent from my phone using some app
I've been trying to fix this the past few days, glad to know it's not user error but lack of official current support. GB should definitely take the opportunity to merge or stand out as a reliable module very soon. Once someone else takes what they have and can keep up, who knows.
Let me join this discussion to make things more clear.
I don't intend to write too many lines about GB's history, its main goal and policy but I'd like to mention one important thing.
GB is basically a non-flashing custom ROM which primary goal is to bring custom-rom like experience to closed-source platforms (like MediaTek) which currently don't have opportunity to have custom ROMs built from source.
Later while evolved, the secondary goal was established - to bring custom-rom like experience to devices running stock Android.
What I see happening around Xposed Framework recently is that people are basically often turn to using it to "patch" what they can't find in a custom ROM. However, Xposed modules (especially the complex ones) should not be used to supplement missing features in custom ROMs built from source. The best option for a user is to go ask devs of the custom ROM he uses and request those missing features. (This is also clearly mentioned in GB's official thread). People don't combine two ROMs in one device to get more features, neither (thanks god it's not possible!)
GB is not here to keep track of what's changing in all custom ROMs available out there. It is simply unmanageable. GB is here to extend the stock Android experience just like any other custom ROM does.
And words like "GB can't keep up pace with KitKat" sound funny. Actually, it keeps up with stock KitKat pretty well.
I understand these words come from people who have zero experience with GB, but anyway.
GB is currently fully compatible with the latest stock KitKat and is even bringing Dialer tweaks in upcoming version which none of custom ROMs have to this day (flip actions, call vibrations, etc.).

[Q] ROM which retains Moto Features

Basically I'm looking for a ROM which retains custom features like Active Display (don't like the custom one from Play Store), the wrist flick for camera, Touchless control, etc. I've already used Eclipse and it's a great ROM however recently it's minor glitches have gotten in my way.
Try Krypton or Epsilon. They are both in the Dev section. I think Epsilon is GSM only though. I'm running Krypton and it is very good.

Basically I'm looking for a ROM which retains custom features like Active Display (don't like the custom one from Play Store), the wrist flick for camera, Touchless control, etc. I've already used Eclipse and it's a great ROM however recently it's minor glitches have gotten in my way.

The stock ROM retains these features.

[Q] Stock 4.4.4 + Xposed Framework or Cyanogenmod 12/other roms

I recently rooted my moto X 2013 and used cm12 for about 1 week. It's solid but i prefer active display over ambient display and the ability to use shake for camera & moto voice. Today i switched back to stock and got xposed framework. I'm already liking it more than cm12. what do you guys prefer?
I prefer stock roms :fingers-crossed:
Stock. Everything works as it should, and I am so accustomed to xposed and its feature set that I couldn't think twice. I need a daily driver phone wise and this phone has been fantastic.

stock for sure. it's like having aosp but better cause everything works. especially with xposed.
You can do something like Carbon or CM11 with Xposed. Its much powerful than CM12 which is still in nightlies and has few major bugs like call audio, BT etc
Stock or stock-based rom with GravityBox.
Eclipse FTW!! Xposed hacks and slashes your framework. Eclipse is stock based so everything works and mods are hard coded like they should be. Just my opinion.

That and YouTube Adaway are all I need..so far.
I threw smooth progress bar on there too just for fun.
I tried cm12 a couple of days ago. It a really nice, but I just couldn't handle not having gravity box, just because I use it for custom vibration patterns for notifications going to my watch.
I was also surprised how much I missed Active Notifications, especially the quick swipe to on when I pick it up. That was the feature I thought was the silliest when I bought the phone. Go figure... Back to eclipse I went.
