Prime Music App - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone received the update yet for the new Prime Music? I've been waiting to try it out but it is not getting pushed to either of my Kindle fire HD.
If anyone has it could they pull the apk?

Is that the one from the play store or from the Amazon push?

In the exact same position as you. Thought I'd be clever and just pull it from Amazon's update, but they didn't include the updated APK for whatever reason.

I have 2 kindles that are on wifi all day long and neither one has received it.

It's basically the same as Play Store. You don't want that one?

No, they're not the same.

Is it possible to replace it with the original Kindle Fire HD one?
Can some one send me the original one?

Problem is solved! I downloaded the firmware from the amazon page, added the extension ".zip", opened it and took the amazonmp3_unsigned.apk from system/app folder and copied it to my kindle fire HD and replaced the apk on it.
Now all works like expected

Thank you but that doesn't help those of us who are trying to get the Prime streaming app which is different from the Mp3 app.

Did you even go to the link I posted? No you didn't or you would not still be looking. MP3 has been completely replaced by Prime Music. Amazon MP3 as a stand alone app has ceased to exist. It may say MP3 in the link but the apk is Amazon Prime streaming app.
Edit: The apk from 1mobile and the Play Store are both 4.0.3. Both are as current as it gets.

Did you even try the advice you gave? No you didn't or you would know the play store version force closes after the first time. The Amazon version is different from the play store version. We need the Amazon version to get it to work on a stock Kindle.

Yes I have. The Amazon apk is not Kindle exclusive. It's the same as the Play Store only the Play Store apk is one update up on Amazon app store. The app has had some issues for some with most recent update for some.

You also could have just hit the uninstall updates option on the app page in the Play Store.

Omg, the APK for the Kindle Fire IS different from the generic Android APK. The have the same identifier name but they are different. Different file sizes, different UI. Different. The Amazon Kindle reader app used to have the same problem, if you are running the Kindle's own OS (or Kinology) and you updated the app through the play store it would break functionality, because they're different APKs. This is well documented.

Will root break Amazon Instant Video on my Kindle Fire HD?

On the original Kindle Fire I know that root did break this feature, but I'm wondering if that is still the case with the Kindle Fire HD (8.9" if it matters).
The only reason I want to root is to use the Google Play Store for obvious reasons, and to add a lot of the Google apps such as Google Music and Gmail.
If someone could point me in the right direction to a root method that keeps the Amazon installed OS and Amazon Instant Video as well as me being able to load the Play Store I would really really appreciate it.
I rooted my device and amazon prime streaming still worked fine

I've rooted my 8.9 and installed some of the Google as that I wanted and required being in the system/app folder. I've not lost video but I have lost my books. Once I unroot and factory reset the books return. That's the only issue I've had.

It will seem as though everything fails but works in the end. Make sure you pay attention to prompts. There is one point where you need to enter a couple commands on the device.
Good Luck
Root my 8.9 numerous times now, like post before said never lost video or books. The only problem is with a custom launcher you cant open the kindle reader, You have to use the home app button and open reader from stock launcher. If for some reason you do lose books just deregister then register again.

Regular vs kindle edition apps?

What are the differences between the regular version apps vs the kindle edition version apps? Would it make a real difference from installing either or on the KFHD 7?
Sent from my KFTT using xda premium
Some of the kindle edition apps are optimized/improved for certain kindle hardware. It really depends upon which app you are talking about and what that particular app author did to make the "kindle" edition of the app. Which apps are you asking about? If I have experience with them on both my kindle and other devices I can tell you what I've observed.

Well what brought the question up was the skype app, but now it goes to all of them. Now when I see a kindle edition app I wonder what is so different and how would the regular one perform compared to the kindle edition one.

Specifically-optimized apps behave differently. If you were to take a regular Scrabble app, it would scale up to fit the Kindle's resolution. Sometimes this ends well, other times it doesn't. The app may look weird and disproportionate. The Kindle Edition Scrabble was made specifically with the Kindle's resolution and hardware in mind (its powerful OMAP processor), so it fits well in the screen and looks great.

[Q] removing silk entirely

Hi peeps
quick question.... if I remove silk entirely (cause I hate it and don't really want 2 launchers installed) will more apps in the Google store be more compatible? or is that just the way the kindle is made?

Wrong thread
Silk isn't a launcher
Yes, there are plenty of launchers and browsers available
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD using xda app-developers app
Hmmm.... obviously silk isn't what I meant then.... I wand to remove the original kindle software to stock vanilla android.... there are a few apps which at the moment if I search the google play store and they're either not there or don't work and then have to use the amazon Appstore to get a working version... would removing all the amazon launcher stuff make those apps work/available? Or would it not make any difference?
To clarify: Silk is the web browser.
And back to the issue at hand, if you want vanilla android, CyanogenMod is the closest you will ever get.

I don't think it has anything to do with the Amazon apps. I think I read somewhere that it has something to do with the build.prop (which isn't something to go messing with).
If you want to see those incompatible apps in the Play Store, use this app here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...ps-without-changing-the-build-prop-root-only/

[Q] Could someone pull the Wired Magazine APK from Kindle Fire HD 7"?

Any chance someone could pull the APK of the Amazon App store version of Wired Magazine from a Kindle Fire HD 7"? Regular Android tablets don't get the nice, tablet-optimized version of the magazine. Instead, we basically get a PDF. The only other copies of the APK floating out there are from the original Kindle Fire, where the magazine content is stuck in a 1024x600 box in the middle of the screen.
Not looking for any magazine content, as I'm a subscriber Just looking for the APK itself. Thanks!

If you're rooted, you could try Market Helper from codekiem, to spoof the kindle device id?

Yeah, I have that one and I believe it's from the original Kindle Fire. The date on that post is in 2011 and the HD was released in 2012.
I'm not 100% sure the APK from the KF HD would even work, but I know the one from the original KF doesn't work correctly. I appreciate the reply.

Really good idea, but people on this thread indicate that it doesn't fool the Amazon App Store.

Amazon Instant Video app now available

Probably too little, too late, but then again, maybe not, but Amazon has finally released an android version of the Amazon Instant Video app:
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/09/09/amazon-prime-finally-comes-to-android-after-all-these-years/
However, no Chromecast support. Boo!
It does work. I've installed it on both my RAZR HD and my Nexus 7. However, you must also have the Amazon store app installed as well.
On the Nexus 7, you MUST install the non-tablet version of the Amazon store app. Until I installed the non-tablet version, it would keep telling me I had to install it and then would redirect me to the Amazon store web page.
Anyway to get it to work offline? Looks like you can only stream. I tried to purchase a video and download it. No dice.
Amazon and Netflix are streaming services.

That's kind of short sighted.
On the kindles, you can download videos for offline play. A buddy of mine does this frequently for long flights.
I meant that Amazon prime is streaming. Maybe it is different on an amazon device..I don't know. I think you may be able to download if you rent or buy but I'm not sure.

Doesn't surprise me Amazon didn't include Chromecast, even though it is the #1 selling devices in Electronics on Amazon.
Maybe they think this will increase their streaming player's popularity... They'd be wrong. But maybe that's what they're thinking =).
There doesn't appear to be a way to download currently on Androids. Hopefully, this will be in a future update, but I'm not sure. I'm just glad I can access my Instant videos from my Android device now without having to use the Dolphin browser. So much better.
Maybe now I can remove Flash from my device as that was the only reason I had it installed.
