[Q] Stuck On Test Firmware? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After a botched OTA update to Kitkat upon its release there was an error in the middle of the update which screwed the phone up drastically, so I found the "test version" of KitKat (N900AUCUCMLG)? and cant get to the official version N900AUCUCNC2.. I tried the update by downloading the zip and installing through safe mode but I get some kind of errors which ends up in the phone doing a clean install of the MLG firmware. any thoughts??

same here, but...
I can root and clean out the bloat ware, just can't install custom roms or make a nandroid back up, but really nuking the bloatware is a blessing in itself.

Thank you I wish I could but never get the install to go all the way, get 99% and then states cannot update the software, need NC2 install like the test install now to correct the problem.

where I get stuck is at step 4 it reads like ODIN should complete the install but never does, did not pay attention to the 95% because I never got to the Heimdal step.
Step 4:
4) Now is the time to use Heimdall.
Reboot into Download Mode once Odin finishes. (ODIN never finishes for me, it always fails at the ODIN install)
Install the vcredist packages downloaded from step 1.
unzip the heimdall .zip file to c:/
go to c:/Heimdall Suite/Drivers and click on zadig.exe
click the middle menu button to select "Show All Devices"

Jerry I wish I could, however this stock software is just not quite right, good enough to root, but not much else. Trust me, I am a happy camper to get rid of the bloat, but at the same time would like to test drive these custom roms. Going to give the MJ5 fix one more try and maybe the 3rd time is the charm.
Thanks again, would have probably blushed over Heimdall 95% comment if successful the first time.......so now ready for it.

You're fine dude. All you have is the international stock ROM not AT&T (you can see the green battery icon even though it's KK). You got everything good there. Baseband is good and so is the kernel (that's actually compatible with towelroot). All you have to do is download this NC2 recovery and Odin it to your phone. Boot up. root using www.towelroot.com then install busy box from play store (open it up and install it from within the app) then download safestrap 3.75 found here. Start flashing KK ROMs
And BTW MGL is just the build number of the firmware. Just like NC2 firmware when they end with "NC2" under the "build number" in your "about device".

What I'm telling is actually waaay easier than doing the whole process from the thread. You already everything right. You just need to odin the file I gave you the link for then download towelroot to root with and that's all. Busy box is just an app you download from the playstore and open and it's there in front of you click "install" from within the app and it'll do the whole thing for you. Safestrap is in op of the thread I had for ya download it then install it and open it up then you're done. I just think it's easier for you. You can do the whole process if you want, brother. I'm thinking that you're trying to open up towelroot on your laptop? It's for your phone not for the laptop. You're done with the laptop now, brother. All of your is on your phone now. Go to towelroot.com from your phone browser and download it then find it and click it. Follow these steps (from your phone)

Yup. Congratulations, brother. You're rooted. Welcome to the fun world. Now head to the playstore and search busybox. Install it and open it up and hit "install" where ever you find it in the app. Let it finish then install safestrap 3.75 and start flashing. Make sure to back up your current rom just in case.

If you've already installed busybox and safestrap 3.75
1.(open. Safestrap and hit "install recovery" then it should say "installed).
2.then go ahead and download a KK rom (make sure it's KK not JB) then put the file on your external SD card (if you have one).
3.Reboot your phone. Then the phone reboots, after the "galaxy note 3" screen there should be a splash screen with a little creepy looking creature in it and on the bottom corners of your screen you'd see "continue" on the right bottom and "recovery" on the left bottom. Click on the "recovery" one then it'll take you to safestrap recovery.
4.From there you can back up your current rom by clicking on "back up". That will take you to another page where you can swipe the bottom to start backing up. Make sure to check "enable compression" on that screen. Let it finish (it'll take a long while to finish. Don't panic. Just let it finish no matter how long it takes. For me it takes at least 20 minutes.lol).
5.After that go back using the "back" button on the bottom right until you get the home screen. Click on "wipe" then swipe the bar in the bottom to factory reset your phone.
6.After that click on "advance" and check everything but "micro SD card". You don't wanna delete that. Swipe the bar in the bottom.. now your phone is clean.
7.Back up to the home screen again. You'll see "install" click it and find your KK rom that you downloaded. Click it then swipe the bar on the bottom and let it install. Once It's done flashing. Click "reboot" on the bottom right of your screen then your phone will boot up to your new rom. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes then set up your phone.
I'm personally using "dynamic kat" rom and I love it. If you'd like to try this rom here is the link to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709701 very friendly group of people and they'll help you with everything they can to get you running.

[Resolved] Stuck in Download Mode after failed flash attempt.

Okay, so I finally decided to ditch AT&T and go full Paranoid (This is not my first flashing attempt with Android devices). Got the latest version, etc. Load into BootStrap and wipe everything. Go to install PA and for some reason I had neglected to tell my build.prop (ro.product.device/name) is supposed to be "jactivelteatt"/"jactivelteuc" and not "SN-M9009". So when I started the flash process, immediate error and now I'm stuck with a phone with no OS or bootloader and can not, for the life of me, find a ROM to flash with .MD5 or .TAR that will work with ODIN. I did find "Oneclick_I537UCUAMF1" that gets all the way to the end and fails. Tried multiple times with multiple cables.
Please if anyone has any idea's, please help.

Oh god are you on the US version (SGH-I537)? If you're on the international version (I9295) ignore this post but otherwise, you need to read and take in my short rant. Trust me I wish this weren't the case, but it is, and it's important:
The Galaxy S4 Active i537 has a locked bootloader. There is no way around this, no ifs ands or buts. You simply cannot flash custom ROMs or recoveries. That's it, end of story as far as CM, CWM, AOSP and such things are concerned. That being said there is a sort of recovery called SafeStrap which you can use to make nandroid backups, flash mods and STOCK-BASED roms, but it's not a true custom recovery in the sense that we had been used to, because of this locked bootloader nightmare.
OK so I think you're gonna want to check out this thread. It's all about how to install any firmware from download mode, I think you're gonna have to go with NE3 or NH3.
Let me reiterate. NO CUSTOM ROMS. NO CWM. No Paranoid, no cyanogenmod, no AOSP, no crossing go before going directly to jail. Sorry for the stupid joke but seriously, you have got to keep your phone on stock-based roms (of which there are unfortunately few).

You need to make sure you are flashing a version that is the same or more recent than the version you are currently on. You cannot downgrade your firmware or else you'll end up with a bootloop.

[Q] Odin and my Note 3

Here is my presentiment that I've posted elsewhere
My phone was working just fine this morning but after updating a few apps through Google Play my phone started throwing up messages that gapps process was continuously crashing.
I then restarted the phone and it would not get to the AT&T startup. I have since flashed the OC1 kernel through SafeStrap but now the phone will not leave the AT&T startup logo.
Any ideas for what I can do? I have an older backup but not on 5.0 like I should. If need be I'll be going through the entire reinstallation process of 5.0 again.
EDIT: Just realized that I have a bigger problem now since I cannot access SafeStrap Recovery.

I need some help with ODIN to get it back to stock. As you can see, I cannot get to SafeStrap anymore. Would it be alright to ODIN to Lollipop or do i need to go to 4.4.4? Anything I need to keep in mind before doing this? I just need to get to SafeStrap and I can get to some backups that I have.

You need to Odin flash the NC2 Kernel to get Safestrap to work http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2800888&stc=1&d=1402892555 then you should be able to wipe and install one of your backups. So I have the kernel you linked downloaded and unzipped. Within Odin 3.10 do I want to place that md5 file under the "Re-Partition" entry?

I know you're probably sick of me posting but would I have to ODIN flash a different kernel to get Safestrap access on Lollipop? For some reason once I updated the startup prompt for Safestrap disappeared.

Yes you would have to flash the NC2 Kernel then after you are done with Safestrap you need to flash the OC1 Kernel. To access Safestrap without Odin you would need to install the NC2 Flasher from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development/nc2-flasher-app-unsafe-t2989141/ plus you need the two (2) files from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/att-nj5-safestrap-t2957471 Thanks @benwaffle and Thanks @carl1961.

And that seems to do the trick. I'm on Marshmallow!
So here's what I did. (MetroPCS Variant Only) (Remember to backup stuff you want to keep (Duh))
Step 1: If you're using a custom recovery, switch back to the stock recovery found bundled here: https://mega.nz/#!sp0wCThZ!MQVTq6y_8DJShrvNrY4L-JtJBDHOQhnaLRq8UiqLruQ
Step 2: Use this to get to the stock Rom (Scroll down): https://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-desire-626s-metro-pcs/news/
Step 3: Do all the updates from the settings menu
Step 4: Profit

I flashed the recovery using fastboot on my PC. Not too sure about flashing it from the phone itself.

Could you write a small guide on how to do that? I have adb and all that installed, I just forget which commands to use. Sorry if I'm asking too much.

Sure.
(Go to the folder where adb and fastboot are located) (Have the phone in download mode)
Step 1: Move the stock recovery to that folder and name it "srecovery"
Step 2: Hold SHIFT and right click anywhere in the folder and click "Open command window here"
Step 3: When the command window opens up, type in "fastboot flash recovery srecovery.img" and press enter
Step 4: Profit??

For some reason it's not seeing my device now
Weird thing going on with my phone, after putting everything to stock, now it will not find system updates. It keeps saying "There are no updates available for your phone."
Very weird. I've restarted the device but same thing happens. I'm not quite sure what to do except keep trying to check for updates.

Yeah, I'm on my 2nd restart. Turning WiFi off, and on, etc... Maybe the servers are getting hammered at the moment and it's just not popping up for the moment. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

Let me ask you, did you have to install those 2 small updates first before the actual Marshmallow update? Or did it just give you the Marshmallow update immediately?

Do you know if I absolutely need them in order to flash Marshmallow? I copied over the OTA zip that I did download before going back to stock. So, if I don't need them then couldn't I just flash it from default recovery?

You do need to download the 2 updates for the 6.0.1 update to show up. Otherwise nothing will happen.

Downgrade to 4.4.2 factory test firmware for SM-S903VL

I found that you can use kingroot to root the factory test firmware for the SM-S903VL
This is the only root method I know and I belive it is the first for the SM-S903VL
The factory firmware has drawbacks, no text calling or downloads or play store.
If anyone can find a way to make this better and actually be able to use the play store phone and texting let us know.
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DO THIS
Downgrade and root files found on my drive...
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4954IfsDiYKendnaWN1cGZ2Snc
Use odin to flash and Kingroot to root, may take a few tries.
If you are done and need to flash back to stock firmware flash these files with odin...

Downloading files. Will confirm asap. Thanks!
Definitely works. Root verified. I'm going to stay here and mess around for awhile and see what I can get away with. I'm far from any kind of expert but this seems like a good sign.

I played with it for awhile, seems the bootloader is locked so that explains not being able to flash a custom recovery. I can't wait till development takes off.

I flashed a custom recovery used from one of the other S5 phones but it kept booting into a page that said take it to a Verizon employee. I assume that's because of the bootloader being locked. I installed Flashify with an apk and used that to flash.

I used Flashify to flash a custom recovery image, TWRP. It worked but the device wouldn't boot into the recovery image or even back into the operating system anymore. It went straight to a page telling me to take my phone to Verizon store so Verizon could fix my phone. I tripped something.
I just opened Odin and reflashed 4.4.2 and kept messing around, that fixed my phone.
Sorry, didn't mean to get your hopes up.

Hopefully... It took forever to find the firmware files and I only just happened to investigate the factory test files and noticed it was 4.4.2 and decided to try out different one click roots for the heck of it...

I wasn't entirely sure what you wanted when it concerned Apps so I just went to settings and took screenshots of everything under Settings > Device > Apps
Let me know if that's everything you need so I can put 6.0.1 back on before I head to work so I have a stable phone.

I was able to get the home screen and notifications but there is this black transparent thing with yellow text that is getting in the way of everything, you can see it in the screenshots. Also because this is Factory Mode apparently there is no lock screen? I've rooted again and am trying to see if I can turn it off for you but here is what I got so far
