[Q] HTC (M7) not booting at all after failed install SkyDragon - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody, I'm pretty much freaking out right now.
I tried to install SkyDragon 4.09.1700.1 but somewhere, the installation failed.
I wanted to do so because my previous rom started crashing more and more...
After trying MIUI and hating it immediately, I wanted to get a nice Google Edition ROM
Now whenever I boot, I can't get past the first boot screen with "HTC, quietly different" ( or something like that )
He only goes there when I hold the phone under a bright light. After that: blackness.
I tried to use to shortcut for booting with bootloader (POWER + VOLUME DOWN) and all I get is the light flashing on the buttons below...
I'm afraid I've got an incomplete or corrupt kernel and I have no clue how to fix this.
I also only have a mac OS X so please bear in mind that most software is not available for me...

I can't get to my bootloader, how do I get my fastboot getvar?
My phone only briefly shows the HTC logo, if I connect my phone to my mac and I do fastboot devices, he finds none

Hold volume down and power button, keep holding the two, the lights on the bottom will blink 10 to 15 times, this will reset the phone, release the power button but continue to hold volume down, should come back on into bootloader.

once in the bootloader, plug your phone into the computer, it should say fastboot usb on the phone screen then.
open a command windows on your computer inside the folder where your fastboot and adb files are on your computer, not sure how you do this on a mac.
Then type fastboot getvar all and post the results here, but delete imei and serial number before submitting the post.

well as you are on hboot 1.54, personally, I would flash twrp 2.6.3.3 recovery (most reliable) and then install a sense rom of your choice from the android development section, sorry but rom recommendations are not allowed, then once booted I would try and s-off my device using either firewater of rumrunner, if you get s-off then you can flash GPE successfully.

Thanks for the help, man.
Tried Android Revolution HD, booted but after HTC logo went to black and then directly to recovery mode...
Now flashed TWRP 2.6.3.3 recovery and trying again, here's hoping it'll work
Edit: it seems to be working just fine Thanks!

Your welcome.
Once S-OFF, Never go back to S-ON, EVER !!!, but this also means the security for your phone is switched off, so you do have to be extra careful of what you are flashing as its much more easy to brick your phone if you do something like flash the wrong HBOOT or firmware, just make sure you read and fully understand OP's instructions first.
You should get S-OFF easy on HBOOT 1.54, you may have to try a few different custom rom's to get there though, its HBOOT 1.56 and 1.57 that causes all the S-OFF problems

[Q] Stuck at boot screen after update - factory reset doesn’t work

Hi,
yesterday I tried to update my phone and it got stuck on the triangle with a red exclamation point symbol. After I while I tried to force the reboot and it just started to endlessly reboot…
I read some stuff over this forum, but all involved an attempt to root the phone, or to install a custom rom, which is not my case. I also tried to factory reset the phone with the power + volume down menu, but nothing to do, it still happen… Impossible to get my phone to work.
Should I try to root the phone or something ? Or is it better to just ask htc/give it back to the store ?
Thanks, have a nice day.
SilverDuck
How did you update?
What exactly did you do?
Mike
Here’s exactly what I did*:
-Notification for update, I say ok
-It restart, I got the dark screen with the phone with the update symbol
-It turns red, I wait a long time
-I long press the power button, and it won’t start anymore
Later I tried to factory reset…
Should I try to flash a stock rom ?

hoping you're on windows 7,
force reboot youre phone,
so before it starts pull vol - plus power button to get into bootloader, now scroll using volume buttons and select fastboot using power
now plug it to the pc
wait and hope to drivers to install
in the meantime download the RUU that matches with your country (take it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860)
now execute as administrator the ruu (is an .exe)
wait untill it finishes and now start using phone again

new thread just opened! you can find RUU's here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428276
aww sh**.. sorry, have just seen you're s-on with hboot 1.54... :/ you can't downgrade hboot with s-on (and due to 1.54 you can't get s-off). so you're stuck with this until we get a RUU from 1.54 (the ones that are available are 1.44)..
sorry for you
Okay, thanks a lot guys !
I guess I'll just wait for a while to see if someone releases it…
Also, to be sure, what should I pay attention to ? The hboot version and the baseband ?

If you want help read some threads of others asking for help.
We need your phone carrier / PC OS version / last android update installed / info from the bootloader and fastboot getvar all (minus your Serial no. and IMEI).

[Q][SOLVED]One keeps rebooting/white HTC logo at welcome screen

Hi guys,
So I tried to restore to stock to send it in warranty to fix that darn camera tint issue.
I was on ARHD 31.6 (based on 4.3 and Sense 5.5 international. I managed to restore my CID and MID without issues, then I relocked and put S-ON.
Now I get boot loops avery 2 minutes after starting fine in my old rom backup and every rom I tried installs fine but after boot I get the screen and when I unlock it the screen gets stuck to a white screen with HTC logo on it (welcome screen?) which is weird since power button responds but nothing else works, it just stays in the white HTC logo screen and then reboots after 1-2 minutes or so.
On top of that I get TAMPERED in the boot loader which was not there before. I managed to unlock it again but I cannot get it to stay on as long as to get S-OFF with rumrunner to then modify MID\CID and run a RUU to restore it.
Anyone has any ideea how I can make this fonctional enough to be sent to HTC?
I think that my mistake was to enable back S-On. So does anyone has any idea on how to fix this? Have I managed to make myself a 600$ beautiful paperweight?

1- how stable is bootloader?
2- can you post a "fastboot getvar all" (remove IMEI and s/n)
3- what recovery are you on (name and version number please, not "latest")
4- what ROM are you on
1- stable, works fine, no reboots there
2- fastboot getvar all:

3- I am using TWRP 2.6.3.1 and I tried also 2.6.3.3 while I was testing KitKat roms which also had the same behavior as first post
4- I was using ARHD 31.6 when I decided to go back to stock and that is the backup I have (rooted with debug on) but that one does not have the white page with HTC logo after screen unlock but still reboots after around 2 minutes like the other roms.

why not try a Guru Reset: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-401-1-zip/
UNSELECT "stock recovery", if it's still randomly rebooting, we may need to check partitions for corruption (let's hope not)
flash it through the recovery you have like any custom rom, and hope it holds; report back and we'll take it from there...

maybe, in the Guru Reset, there is "stock radio", select it!! but unselect "stock recovery" you don't need that!

First try it got stuck for like an hour at 0%. I restarted it and tried again but did not selected any baseband (or stock recovery) to see if selecting those was making the aroma installer to get stuck. It went all that way like that but it was also bootlooping and showing the white screen. Then I installed it again with selecting baseband and it worked fine and rom is functional again. No bootloops and not more stuck white screen.
I wonder when the radio got wiped. I used the ENGHboot trick to modify cid\mid then run that su echo command to put LOCKED back then fastboot writesecureflag 3 to put S-ON. Weird but I learned something more today I guess

HTC One stuck at HTC quietly brilliant

To start off, I have had my htc one for about 4 months and around December my battery died and I charged it back up. I was then shown the boot loader screen which I never had seen before. Ever since then when I restart my phone it randomly goes to that screen sometimes so I just then did fast boot and booted into the android os. Yesterday my phone froze so I attempted to restart it and then I was stuck with the htc quietly brilliant screen. I have let the battery die like that and charged it back up but nothing happens. I tried to factory reset it in the boot loader but that does not work either. The boot loader currently shows this:
Tampered
Locked
S-ON
Keep in mind I have never tried to install custom roms or anything else I have left it purely at stock. I also got it straight from a T-mobile store. Help is appreciated.
-Thanks!

ok, the bootloader tampered flag mean someone already unlocked it. If you are 100% sure you did not attempted to mod anything, this mean your phone wasn't new when you bought it and you should consider returning it back to store. The main problem is that they will probably deny the warranty because of this tampered flag. They will probably assume that you have tampered the phone.
You can also try to reset back to 100% stock with an ruu.exe. Be sure to use a windows 8.0, 7 or xp computer. not a windows 8.1. Connect the phone to your computer and boot it to bootloader mode then, lauch the ruu.exe.
This is the ruu you need
edit: note that it will completely wipe your data.
edit2: note that the ruu will not remove the tampered flag unless you want to go trough many other steps.

Ok I'll do that and see what happens. Thanks for the help!
@maxt95
If your phone still have issue after the ruu (freeze/reboot) then we can assist you to s-off, remove tempered flag etc etc... make the device looks like if it had never been tampered with and you'll be able to send it under warranty
if you screwed this yourself don't be shy to admit it. Much easier to assist when we know all the details.

Hi thanks for your response. I am using HTC one and, I'm not sure how to execute the fastboot getvar all command. I know how to get to the bootloader w/c is holding the power button down and, holding volume down at the same time

You will need to have fastboot/adb tools installed on your computer ----> HERE
and you'll need latest HTC drivers installed. This can be done by installing HTC sync software you can find HERE
then reboot in bootloader mode, select fastboot, open minimal adb and fastboot and enter the cmd.
btw you still didn't described your issue ...

My issue is that my phone is stuck at the "HTC Quiently Brilliant" screen. I tried reboot, recovery and reset factory settings, I still get stuck at the htc screen.. Let me try what you've suggested.
And, by the way my bootloader says ****LOCKED*** (Pink Font) on top of the menu.. Not sure if that helps...

So it looks like your phone is completely stock and you never tampered it. Since you already did a factory reset, there is not much you can do... you should try to erase cache and see if the phone can boot properly:
reboot phone in bootloader/fastboot mode and type this command:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
if your phone still don't boot you should consider go back to a bell mobility store and ask for a repair/replacement if your phone is still under warranty. If not under waranty you can try the guide linked in my signature below (return stock for canadian user by SaHiLzZ). The guide require to flash a custom recovery which need an unlocked bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone and may void your warranty.

Touch screen not responding after flashing stock ROM and unable to access sd card

Ok, So I was on a lollipop rom and I have a AT&T HTC M7. I am visiting india and tried to unlock it via a code I bought online. Apparently the unlock code only works with stock rom so I decided to flash the stock rom. I downloaded the ROM from How to Return to 100% Stock thread. I am S ON. I downloaded the files "Guru_Reset_M7_1.26.502.15.zip". Flashed it via twrp and everything seemed to go ok. But when the phone rebooted the touchscreen wasnt responding. Power button and volume up down work and thats it. I downloaded the squabbi tool and i was able to flash TWRP again. But when I go into twrp there are no folders/files that i could see. If i go a level up I can see the cache, data, dev folders and so on. In that list there is NOTHING in sd card. My back ups and everything seem to have disappeared. It shows "Internal Storage 0 MB". Now I am scared to do anything so please guide me.

It is written in that guide you used to revert to stock that
"If you restore one of the stock Nandroid backups with a 1.2x version, you will probably have issues with the touch screen not working since the updated touchscreen drivers in the newer firmware updates, prevent the touch screen from working in the stock level 4.1.2 software."
Kindly post your fastboot getvar all with the IMEI and SERIAL NO removed from it.

Ok. Good thing is that you have updated hboot but not that updated.
You can get S-OFF on hboot 1.56 easily.
Find rumrunner or moonshine over here.
Use their guide to S-OFF.
Then you can flash any version software you want or downgrade your firmware.
And how to use phone right now is by using a usb OTG cable and a usb mouse attached to it.
You can select things on phone then with mouse.

Instead of going through all of that. What you can do is download this updated RUU to return to stock.
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_...9_10-26-1718-01l_release_356565_signed_2-exe/
You need to relock your bootloader
Connect the phone in fastboot mode with pc.
Just few clicks running this exe. It will do the rest.
IMPORTANT: make sure you have Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable 2008 x86 installed on your pc.
It is required for RUU to run properly.

A usb OTG cable is always good to have, so dont let the RUU stop you from buying one, they only cost pennies now, you can plug a usb stick rather than a mouse into one end of it and the other end into your phone and backup all your rom's to the USB stick instead of the internal storage, and the same to restore them, I use mine all the time.

I already have couple. But my "stash" is back in the US. But I guess it won't hurt to have one now. I called a shop earlier today and they had one for 50 rupees....which is less than 1 USD. So not a big investment either ☺

Soft Brick (I hope) of an HTC One (M7).

Hi all,
I apologise for this as it seems there are a few soft brick posts to do with the M7 here. I've tried following them but I'm not having much success.
Last night I decided to root my phone in an effort to find a good ROM that looked good but also didn't have the same battery drain as the stock HTC Lollipop update.
Everything was ok to start with. Got the unlock code, followed a process on HTConeroot.com. Other than TWRP probably not being the latest version, all seemed ok. After SuperSU wouldn't start due to the incorrect binaries, I tried to update it through twrp and the trouble started. It would not start the OS and, being the noob, I pressed 'wipe' on twrp and i have no arrived at the following:
I am currently in a boot loop. It will not start the OS. I cannot gain access to recovery mode in TWRP either as the screen flashes up team winning and then just restarts. I can gain access to the Hboot screen and from there can do a USB fastboot link. However, I can't do anything with ADB as it doesn't recognise any device as being connected. Fastboot prompt works fine though.
In a nutshell, I'm looking to get the phone working again. I don't really need to go back to a stock rom - I was looking at google play edition or cyanogen (though I'm told the latter isn't *that* stable). Is someone able to help me?

Edit your post above and remove your IMEI and Serialno, keep these numbers private.
ADB doesn't work from bootloader, only fastboot will. ADB is only available from a custom recovery or from a booted OS with USB debug enabled.
You'll first need a working recovery so reflash twrp recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_file.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Thanks - I think I have it... I part way followed this thread - which means i've relocked the bootloader :/

however, I need to find an RUU of 7.19.401.30 - thought I'd found the right version only to get blocked at model number. I'd got the .22 instead.....

There is no 7.19.401.30 ruu, the latest one is 7.19.401.22 and can't be flashed on your phone since its a downgrae in version (requires s-off)
Unlock your bootloader and flash your custom rom.
Thanks - I'm now in a stable TWRP env. I now need to figure out how to push a rom across to the phone.
Next question. Does s-mode have to be off. If so, how is this achieved via fastboot? (or is it a case of more tools and tinkering). As I've already made a hash of things once, I'm loath to do this........

You don't need s-off to flash a rom, if you want s-off for going back to stock using the ruu (downgrade) you'll first need a working rom. S-OFF can only be achieved from a working rom using Sunshine S-OFF
To push a rom to your phone, if you have a recent twrp version (2.8+) just boot your phone in recovery mode connected to your pc using the usb cable and you should be able to see your phone storage (like if it was a usb stick). just drag and drop your rom.zip to your phone and then in twrp select "install" and flash the rom. If you are one an older version of twrp, use adb to push the rom to your phone:
Code:
adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard
Thanks guys what solved it was:
Up to date version of TWRP
Latest version of Android revolution.
The reson it wasn't booting or providing some sort of DR was because I had somehow wiped everything from the phone. By way of complete fluke, I now have a rooted phone running on a completely clean install directory. Remind me to back up later on.
