Remote for photos - Samsung Gear Live

Does anyone know if it will be possible with the wear to use it as a remote for the camera app. I realize this would require either a separate app or added to the code of a camera app. Just curious if anybody thats looked at the developer materials knows if it's possible

Youtube updated

I was looking for something in the app market and happened to run across this. Looks like a new update for Youtube. Seems like a little smoother interface and bit more finger friendly. Just figured I'd share!
The native YouTube app? Or are you talking about a 3rd party one?
I ask because I'm not getting an update notification. Since its one of my most used apps I'm definitely interested in any new improvements
The native app. I didnt get a notification for it either but it's def a different verision then what I had before. Try searching for it in the market.
I think it may be for 2.2 only.

I'm running Cog Beta 5.5. Which is 2.2.
But, it looks like it is completely separate than the YouTube app which comes pre installed on the captivate. Just downloaded, and so far I like it.
Here's the Appbrain
EDIT: It also allows you to edit the SafeSearch controls. Which I had heard previously Samsung (or ATT) disabled.

Can anyone else confirm this? I never got a backup so I don't want to upgrade unless this is true.

It definitely does let you edit the safe-search controls. First thing I did was turn them off
still cant watch a lot of music videos (thanks to VEVO) and a bunch of popular videos (worst dj ever) are still not viewable or searchable.
Have to use the regular Youtube site and use flash for those videos.
It clearly states on the AppBrain page that it is for 2.2 and up, so no dice for us Eclair users.

new and improved....
yeah,i downloaded this yesterday and i really like this version- the interface looks much better dark and i like that i have access to my channel when away from my computer...found out about the new youtube app through android central-no notification was sent to me since the captivate doesn't officially have 2.2?(i have the leaked 2.2 )
thanks for the headsup!!
New app looks awesome Thanks for the find.
Can someone please go to the new YouTube app (if you have it) go to settings and see what the application version is, please?

Really liking the new update. Again this is for 2.2 only, it didn't show up as an update to my current youtube app, but it did replace it once I downloaded and installed it.
Hopefully Google continues to add more and more of the stock apps to the market... one way to combat the horrors of Sense, TouchWiz, etc.

Ported to 2.1

Confirmed working on my end.
Definitely an improvement but still can't comment from within the app which I hope they implement

Find Phone Question

Hi helpful people of XDA.
I've received my One and I'd very much like to keep it in my possession. Just wondering if there's a find my iPhone style app available for it? Or if its in settings somewhere?
Edit - Also while I'm here, the phone doesn't seem to distinguish between H and H+ it's annoying, is there any chance of being able to see the difference?
Thanks.

Plan B is awesome. You can install that one after you lost it via play.google.com
Otherwise you can use prey or any other app .. there are tons
Theres also Wheres my Droid
But as said, most of these "finding" apps you can install online through your google account and then track down your phone
So many apps I wasn't aware of!
Thanks chaps.

Yes, your new link works.
Installed it at work so I can't really play with it yet but there is a weird little headphone and chrome something icon with a line through it at the bottom left of the main screen that doesn't do anything. I probably need to be on the same network and the app to see my chromecast for whatever that is to do something but just thought I'd mention it.
Suggestions:
1) Add a check on app start to notify if it can't find the chromecast on the network
2) Ask to enable wifi for same reason as #1
3) Add Widget(s) for the app (Granted I haven't used the app to it's full potential yet to determine what the widget could/should have)

How come this is the only chromecast app in the store every other developer is saying that google hasn't allowed developers to release apps yet I think it has something to do with the beta sdk or something

Maybe because this is using an API for controlling the Chromecast but it's not actually pushing video to it.

Don't know about other, but I can tell you one thing : Google released all the stuff a developer could need to develop apps for it and there's no limitation to publish what they want. Here's the catch though, their API is somehow limited for clients and are meant for services like Netflix or Hulu to implement their own media player remote. Sending content to the Chromecast is a very different thing (and is potentially the most interesting). Koush wrote a few things about it on his Google+ page, I recommend checking it out as well as his workaround.

Do you have any plans to post your source code? I'd love to take a look at it.
I'm strongly considering it but not immediately. There's a lot of changes going on in the codebase still and a little bit of house cleaning before I can start thinking of releasing it. Maybe in a couple months from now. If you need to look at some chromecast code, samples do pretty much the same =)

[Q] Silence camera shutter sound on Galaxy Gear

Hey guys is there any way to silence the camera shutter sound on the Galaxy Gear? With that thing making noise everyone pretty much knows you're taking a picture.

That's the idea. Samsung did it intentionally for privacy reasons. A dev will probably do a work-around at some point, but I doubt Samsung ever will give us an option.
Aww yiss, creeper pics. I'd like to know too.
Ahhh I see. Thought I could go all secret agent on people and take their photo. I guess we just have to wait for a root and see if that helps.
Here is a simple temporary solution for you- Cover the speaker holes with your finger while taking a shot.
It mutes most of the sound, then.
wow you're right that does work. thanks a bunch. :good:

Most of the population understand a mobile phone can have a camera and when its been used. A watch, I think not. I fear we shall all start to pay for deviant-illegal-inappropriate-criminal behaviour by a few irresponsible owners. I can see the day looming when the crap will hit the fan regarding this device and its camera? Remember all things good have the balance of being abused for bad.
honestly, isnt it obvious looking, the way youd have to hold your arm and hand, etc. There are much cheaper, easier ways to achieve creeper status without an expensive nerdwatch

Found a solution. Use snapchat and save the photos.
I notice a slightly bigger quality change though.
Bad purpose )~
If youre rooted. Push over a root explorer via ADB. Then navigate to /system/media/audio/ui and delete all the camera_*.ogg's.

Install Wonder share mobilego for Android on desktop and download silent camera app.
No Root required!!! Only problem is that all photos are rotated 90 degrees. They transfer over to the phone fine.

Exactly. 1. Root, 2a. install Null_ROM so you can 3. BT tether and 4. use Play Store (or 2b. ADB) to install a root browser.... then find\delete cam oggs.

App to control app permission

Hey team,
Can someone point me to a good thread, I've found 3,4 threads but looking for a good app, or an app where I can control what permissions apps get AND if there is an app that logs all the actions of your apps. I have the amex app and I sure as hell dont know why it needs certain permissions and I am curious to know when the app accesses my phonebook or so forth
Hope I made sense....
Thanks alot as usual.

+1 to this. App ops works great and is super lightweight.
I would stay away from using xposed as it causes external problems and it's better to just stick to lightweight alternatives.
