So Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is out of Google's kitchen, and us sugar fiends will have to wait until summer 2013 for our next big rush, which leads me onto the replacement for the Nexus 7, which given the cut-throat competition is a certainty.
So here are my dream specs, which are based on upcoming technology and some common sense!, give me this Google and you've got my money.
1) Bigger screen, but same size chassis as Nexus 7, thin bezels are sexy
2) Tegra 4 quad-core & 2GB RAM. Tegra 3 might not have been the most powerful beast, but it has served us well, and Nvidia game support is always a plus.
3) Resolution full HD - 1920 x 1080 and Miracast. You just know that the next iPad mini will retina up their screen, so lets not fall behind.
4) Faster I/O. Moving away from crappy eMMC to the newest µSSD SATA, which will result in two to three times the performance of current storage tech, as many N7 owners will tell you slow I/O really bottlenecks system performance.
5) With all this tasty hardware you need equally tasty software enter Android 5.0 - Key Lime Pie.
So would these specs tempt you to buy or are you happy enough with the 'old' Nexus 7?

1. No the bezel is functional. Functionality over visual. I.E the iPad minis non bezeld display is a pain in the ass to hold one handed.
2. FCK Nvidia. Would rather have an S4. Or S5.
3. Seriously 1080p screens I can dig it but not necessary honestly. Our nexus 7 is already a retina quality display. And retina is a fancy zinger for high quality display.
4.SSD would be neat you got me there
5. Unlikely I'm sure we won't see it until the end of 2013. I would expect 4.2.x updates like gingerbread.
If this did come out for a reasonable price id possibly buy it. Can't say I wouldn't want to but hey this is just dreaming.

I'm enjoying my Nexus 7, this is just idle day dreaming, even typed this on my laptop rather than the Nexus to spare her feelings:laugh:
I will not upgrade. Why should I? Because with all the power that Nexus 7 has it will for sure be updated for a long time. Seriously, quad core Tegra 3 is a lot of power.
You people who update their phone/tablet every 9 months are something I don't understand. What is wrong with Tegra? I've had no problems with it by now. If your tablet needs to be on the top of benchmark result... why? Exynos may get 100 points more, or it opens an application 0.2 seconds faster but I will never spend so much money on it.
1. Decent camera on the back. I know (some) people don't see the use - but in small 7" devices, it could easily serve as a camera and analogue sharing device (showing the pictures you took, on a plane or whatever). If it had a camera, I would use it, and I would carry my N7 with me everywhere.
2. Built in kickstand. Surface has it. Make it happen and I <3 you.
3. Whatever is the fastest processor at the time of release. I don't care which chip. Use a Tegra, Exxnos, whatever. Don't care about the details. Fastest. period.
4. More storage space, but 16/32 is a good place at the moment. 32/64 would be more reasonable of course.
5. Move the power button away from the volume controls. I can't even count the number of times I've hit standby when I meant to hit VolUp. Maybe I need to pay more attention, but this could be easily relocated as well. Maybe bottom left or right, near the microUSB port?
6. The screen is fantastic as it stands. I'm not sure what can be improved while keeping this aspect ratio and screen size. It is plenty vibrant and bright enough (although the auto-brightness is too dark in most situations).
7. The back could be a bit grippy-er even. I like being able to hold it easily with one-hand while lying down. It is the best tablet-backing material I have ever felt, but it could be even better. Maybe a different texture could help /shrug.
8. Multi-color LED indicator light. Vibrator (whatever it is called) for haptic feedback.
9. Variable pressure stylus compatibility, pen sold separately to keep costs down.
10. Induction charging compatibility.
But lets get real - the Nexus 7 as it stands is an AMAZING device. I would not switch it for a slight upgrade (a la iPhone 4S to 5).
I'm good with the 7. Leave the bevels so we can hold the damn thing. The resolution is superb for a 7" tab. Resolution isn't that big of deal at this point in the game. All of that screen resolution requires a lot of umph that I'd rather put toward framerates and graphics. That like buying an iPad3 and feeling like a iPad2. Resolution on the N7 is perfect.
That said, faster/more memory (32/64), better display (brighter, Amoled maybe, something fancy), decent magnetic smartcover like Apples or N10, and of course a nice new fancy quadcore beef house.

1. The camera was left out to keep the cost down, seriously, you look like a fool using a camera on a tablet, and when everyone already has a camera on their phone, having one on your tablet is just redundant.
2 kickstand would just bulk it up, I prefer a case.
3. The Tegra 3 is the fastest chip available, devs just need to optimize for it. As far as graphical quality goes, just put dead trigger next to nova 3. Dt was written for Tegra 3 and it looks just as good as anything you'd see on a console and is smooth, nova 3 (before the last update) ran terribly. Personally I would want to see a big jump, rather than a slight upgrade.
4. Agreed, I never understood the 8, I just got a 32 and I can't fill it, haha.
5. Disagreed, having it grouped together keeps it nice and tidy, and makes it easier to fiddle with one handed.
6. My 16gb did have trouble adjusting brightness, but they must have changed something, as my 32gb has a much better contrast and is much easier to see, esp in sunlight. Personally I have trouble keeping up with screen tech, but I think changing to super amoled would bump the price up ALOT.
7. I like the back, plus my tab spent half its time in the rubber case, nearly sticks to the wall.
8. Led would be good, I often have wished I could glance to see if there's any notifications rather than having to press the button.
As for haptic feedback, at first I thought it was odd it didn't have it, but the more I think about it, I think Firstly the tablet is too big for it, I don't know, it would be weird for something bigger than my phone to be vibrating away.
9. Styluses are old school, and even if they sell the pen separately, they'd have to have functionality in the tablet, which would unnecessarily raise the cost for people who won't use it. Google didn't make an Ipad killer by putting in stuff that only some people will use.
10. The n4 has it, it's only a matter of time. Personally pluging in a cable doesn't bother me, esp when I'm running out of battery and still want to use my n7, but it would be good for docks etc.
Personally the ONLY thing I feel that is missing from the n7 right now is hdmi or mhl, miracast is looking good but needing to buy a new tv or receiver is a pain.

1) Improve build quality. Use gorilla glass. Fix the damn screen lift for real. Make them more able to handle a drop without cracking/breaking/etc.
2) Keep all the current features - don't take anything out (like the smart cover ability and currently-unused pogo pins).
3) External SD (yeah, I'm dreaming...)
4) Inductive charging would be awesome.

I agree my phone is 3 years old. My Other tablet is nearly two years old and we still use it everyday.. Its acer a500.. i like the 7 in tab to fit my purse better.
I wouldn't upgrade, I love my nexus, but I don't use it enough to justify upgrading. I'll play some simple games, surf the web and play Netflix for the kids, so the current 7 is plenty for me.

I think $200 is cheap enough for a yearly update. You can sell the old one for $100 to minimize cost. That doesn't mean you should upgrade, but whether you'd want to or not will be an indicator of Android's progress, ie if most peeps are still fine with their old N7s by this time next year, Android isn't moving fast enough.
My ideas for an N7B, mostly the little things:
. Keep $200 price point. One can quibble over N7's technical merits, but there's no illusion on why it's popular. That means that many of the MOTS in the OP should stay in the wishful realm. Remember that Kindle Fire will keep up the price pressure.
. Have a dedicated charging port for faster charging, and to allow using micro-USB for other things while plugged in. This would be a major problem for N10 with its slow charging, if the USB were actually useful for normal peeps (it isn't).
. Have micro-HDMI out. This is a major KFHD advantage over N7.
. Have dual-band, dual-stream MIMO wifi. This is a given, since starting with KFHD, tablets are getting this as a matter of course. Hopefully wireless connectivity will get more awareness, and we'll see 802.11ac or WiGig make an appearance.
. I'm fine with the Teg3 and screen, but N7B will probably get a low-cost version of Teg4 or equiv to keep up with the Joneses. I would not want the res to go higher as that will eat up more batt/SoC power. N10 already has this affliction, and hopefully Goog will take the lesson to heart.
. I'd say micro-SD slot, but I know it won't happen. Nexus devices need to be gimped so they can get the incredible bang/buck, and SD slot is the casualty.
. Outside of N7, I hope Goog fix the eco so more vendors sell Android tabs, and that non-Nexus tabs can get updates as quickly as Nexus ones. It's a sad testament when Android tabs are limited to only Nexus tabs. I'd like to have a 4:3 tab, and I know that won't happen with Nexus. This is on Google, not the vendors. It needs to figure out a better way.
In short, for hardware, I'd just like to see better connectivity, else the rest is fine. I'd like to see an improved eco (which doesn't necessarily mean more apps, although that would be a consequence). But most of all, I'd like to see a more capable OS, being able to do more than just consuming content and being a portable kiosk for Google Play Store.
I think a higher screen resolution is a very reasonable thing to ask for. Retina displays are GORGEOUS and I'd like to have a screen with that resolution or higher.

LTE support is also something that is missing.
Screen size is perfect the way it is.

a. They shouldn't design the device based on a baseless assumption that people will use cases. Too many unknowns and too many variations to account for.
b. Tegra 3 is faster than the S4Pro? Anyways, whatever is the fastest next year, is the chip they should use. Of course software optimization is important, just look at the launch PS3 and 360 games vs current - but having the best processor will push the envelope of what is possible.
c. Maybe you're right about the stylus - but if it were available, if people were able to accurately manipulate tiny objects or switches with more certainty, new types of UI's can be developed. Look at Aparatus and Machinarium. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could accurately manipulate the levers and buttons? You're right in that it shouldn't be at the expense of driving hardware costs - tho I see a potential for future innovation.
Sure, stylii were used in crappy devices like the Palm, but they are also being used effectively in the Note 2 and by thousands of graphic designers through Wacom pads. Anyways, certainly don't drive up costs. I don't know if I can afford another $25.
d. If it will improve my quality of life ---- if it gives me a lifestyle benefit, ... that is the feature I want. Inductive charging is just that. It makes life easier. Plugging in a cable takes 2 seconds... as does picking up a pen and paper instead of launching Evernote. Is it possible to feed HDMI through the microUSB port? Maybe they can make an adapter that processes the signal into an HDMI output? /shrug. Big do-want on HDMI out though.
Thinking about this some more...
. Standardize a port & dock configuration for 3rd-party vendors to make interoperable docks, for keyboard/storage/battery/etc. This is key for accessory support. It also allows more productivity options. I don't want to have to buy a different proprietary dock for each device.
. Allow hardware vendors a cut of the 30% Play Store fee, as long as the device is updated to the latest OS. This would better incentivize vendors to update their old wares, more than the usual "it's a good thing for your users" lip service.
. Lend support to Cyanogenmod and similar roll-your-own-distro groups, so they can support more devices faster. Add incentives to hardware vendors where needed. Leveraging community work is a cheap way to spread adoption of the OS.

I believe in order to be retina a ppi requirement has to be met.

I think "retina" is an Apple trademark. Didn't know you could trademark body parts... but whatever.
According to Apple, Retina goes from the high end of 326ppi (iPhone 4/4s) down to 227ppi in the Macbook Pro 13".
Nexus 7 is 216ppi so technically not retina.
Nexus 10 is 300ppi, just for comparison.
First of all I would like to point out a fact that this thread is not a "OMG LG O4X HD SUCKS, GET A BETTER PHONE NOW" thread...it's merely a comparison of a screens that is currently on the O4X with a Note 2's screen.
If you own a Note 2 and an O4X I would like to know a few things a about it. I still love my O4X and it's not going anywhere it's just I'm currently looking into the Note 2 because..it's a Phablet. I don't want a full blown tablet because honestly I think it's not that usefull but I do want a device that I could do all my stuff on. Why the Note 2 and not...say Lg Optimus G Pro ? Because of the stylus. I really love the way the stylus works and the fact that it has wacom pressure sensitivity support and for me, someone who likes to do digital drawings, it's an amazing plus!
The only concern is the screen...are they in the same category or is the Note's 2 screen worse because of it's less PPI...and should I get a Note 2 NOW or wait for a new device from the same line of products... and as far as I know the Note 2 have not yet got it's 4.2.2 update so that's kinda good for me because by the time I'm gonna gather enough funds and make up my minds I bet it's already gonna get updated.
So yes a few questions about the Note 2, feel free to give me any opinions regarding the device and compare it to the O4X in any way possible.
P.S - Again, the O4X is still a great device and I'm going to use it.

And about the screen, it's of course better than AMOLED imho. You maybe should wait for LG G2, it'll be great!
AMOLEDS are inferior to IPS panels for different reasons. They break easier, blue colors lose in strength over time, blueish white and my favorite myth:
AMOLEDS are not more efficient than LCD displays simply because they nearly need double the power to render white backgrounds and all browsing and so on re in white backgrounds.
Also they are more prone to screen burns, which is the biggest issue I have with them, aside from the loss of the blue color over time.

Its also useful if you dont know what LCD TFT, LCD TN and LCD IPS means.
As for Note 2. Wait, maybe the note 3 will not have an AMOLED display and you can get the best thing yet, and Note 2 prices are likely to drop when the Note 3 comes.
If you value display colors and use a lot, do not buy any OLED device. If you dont and need that stylus and a phablet, go for it.
I am planning to return my Tab S 8.4 today. Though the screen looks stellar and the build quality is great I just can not get over the terrible battery life in normal use (IE not limited just to movies with a darker theme) or the performance issues that this pair of Samsung processors has. I get so much noticeable lag and hesitation that it is just to annoying for a product like this. I really wish they had put in a SD 801 or 805 so that performance was stable and smooth across the board. Battery life if you do anything that uses much light colors is just terrible. The screen drains the battery so fast with web use for example. Reviews back this up. Testing with a movie on loop can have great results up to 12 hours if it is a dark enough movie but testing with a light background with web use on review benchmarks shows that time drop down to 7 hours. Unfortunately I don't do much movie watching on a tablet so it is a particular issue for me. I had it side by side with my ipad mini retina doing the same work and it was draining twice as fast as the iPad. I really wish they had not felt the need to go so thin and instead gave us a revolution in battery performance.
I can only imagine what this device might have been like if they released it with a SD 805 SoC and 10mm thickness with doubled battery life.
I've been using a black background on my amoled screens from S2, S4 and now S5. Dark themes in any apps that have them. On the Tab S I'm also trying night mode in Next Browser. Battery seems good so far and should be a little better with root/custom rom's.
I'm pretty damn picky and it's fast enough for me.

Yeah, I really don't WANT to return it. I love that screen. Maybe I should try Next...In chrome most things are white and it is quite a drain. I also use black backgrounds. Primarily B/W portraits.
I am also disappointed in the performance of the device. It seems to stutter and lag constantly, even when not under heavy load. Maybe the L release (if it comes out for the tablet) will fix that, but I'm not holding my breath.
It seems like on a device coming out mid-2014, there should be no UI stutters.
I should also note that I'm using Nova Launcher so I can't speak much for lag on the Touchwiz Launcher.

Since you prefer battery life to size, you might consider the Tab pro 8.4 Sam rez, slightly thicker, no amoled, SD 800, and really good battery life for surfing.

I actually have 3 of those in the house, my 2 sons and my wife. It is a nice device but not one that would cause me to sell my iPad Min Retina and switch. I was hoping the display and build of the Tab S would be that device. I think I may give it a second shot, try to live on the dark side as much as I can. Now that we have root I may be able to fix a couple issues.
I replaced my Tab Pro 10.1 for the Tab S 10.5. Speed and battery life on my part is much better on the Tab S than on the Tab Pro. Also, Wifi reception is much more better. My only complaint is with KitKat and not Samsung. They changed the permission setting and because of than, I cannot copy file from the internal memory to my SDCard with RootExplorer or save it directly on the SD Card with Dolphin Broswer.
For what its worth I am running Nova Launcher and have never experienced any lag whatsoever. Yeah battery life isn't great but that is never as advertised.
Wait for Freeza or someone to crank out a nice ROM for us and what lag there may be will improve. His ROM made my 8.4 Pro much faster.

If you use the Samsung My Files you can do that. And now that there is Root for your tablet you can always remove that restriction right now all together.

Yes, I discovered that yesterday. But still a pain that I have to use My Files app while Root Explorer could be doing it without any problem. I'm holding off root for the moment. I rooted my Note 2 but I don't have any reasons for the moment to root my Tab S.
I have the Tab 8.4 S and have zero issues with lag or battery and I would consider myself a heavy user. Playing games to watching HD movies while surfing the web and the battery does just fine.
Now... I do have Nova installed and did so as soon as I got the device onlined since I customize the hell out of my devices so I never experienced the TouchWiz launcher. I also have Clean Master and Battery Doctor installed. The combination of these three has made this my main device not only for home and hobby but also my work.
Touchwiz is actually Korean for "pretty eye candy that makes your tablet go slow". I swear.
I sold my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and bought a Galaxy Tab S 8.4 a couple says ago. Battery and performance are much better on Tab S IMO. This thing will be a beast after flashing a mod or two.
My only real gripe with this tablet is not how fast the battery drains but how long it takes to charge. This has to be the slowest charging electronic device I've ever owned. Wonder why?

Are you using the stock charger? I never bothered with it from the get go and I am unsure how many volts it is.
I picked up a Rocketfish 10.2v from BB months ago at no cost using my Rewards. Priceless!

The stock charger is 5v 2amps. Not sure I would want to risk any higher.

Be careful increasing the volts but the more amps the better. Though high end devices have power controllers so it doesn't matter how much over the specs you go the recharge will always be the same.
My two cents
I have owned every galaxy from vibrant to S4. I owned an N10 (currently have a 2013 N7 and N5). I owned a Note 2. For what its worth, even with the extra pixels to push, I don't think this is a hardware issue. Touchwiz has always just been a poorly coded behemoth of a skin. With the exception of the Note 2 (which TW seemed to be very smooth on)...it has always had frame stutters and an ass ton of processes eating up cycles. Whenever I flashed a stripped down...or even better an actual AOSP (I love slim) ROM, performance on these devices have been flawless.
Full disclosure... my 10.5 S is charging right now and I have not even fired it up yet. But I will immediately root and debloat the Eff out of this thing. I agree that Sammy's tablet update cycle is ridiculous...and that a snapdragon should have been the cpu by default, but que cera cera.
Once I fire it up...I will report back.
So far here are my 8.4 gripes after about 24 hours of ownership:
Battery life - I charged it to 100% prior to use and was a bit shocked that I lost 10% just doing the setup and installing my apps.
Pentile screen - Part of this is my fault as I did not realize the 8.4 is pentile and I thought both the 10.5 and 8.4 were Super Amoled Plus. There is a bit of a softness to the 8.4 screen that seems unusual considering its size and PPI. In some ways I find the Nexus 7 screen a bit better and more realistic. I own a LG G3 and the QHD display on it is fantastic, and I had thought the 8.4 would have a little of that magic but it is not in the same league at all. I wonder what the real PPI is on the 8.4 considering it is pentile, I gather it is less than the Nexus 7. This may be a dealbreaker for me, I am going to use it tonight and do a little side by side with my Nexus 7 and Note 10.1 2014.
That said Netflix looks great on this device, the best I have seen so I wonder if the app does some sort of edge sharpening. When I watch 1080p content streamed to the 8.4 find it is not as sharp as it should be and really no better than the Note 10.1.
Going to give it another couple of days and see if it grows on me.

The tab s on the other hand is extremely light weight, fluid and virtually lag free (if you use Nova launcher)!! I can't believe Samsung did such a poor job of updating their previous flagship. These two tablets have virtually the same specs but the experience on the note was just painful because you always knew it could do more. Even opening the keyboard and typing on it was kinda slow.
I have no idea what Samsung is doing releasing these many tables to flood the market and I guess they're borrowing a page or two from apples playback regarding planned obsolescence for their hardware.
This is the best tablet experience I have ever had on Android and I have used both the nexus 7s, note 10.1 2014 and the nexus 10. Speed is on per with the note 3 which is a beast of an android.
yeah ive seen the 2014 edition as well as the tab pro tablets ive always noticed the screens are kinda washed out or im just used to super amoled on my notes lol

I agree completely. I will also add that there was a hardware bluetooth issue, because the same bluetooth keyboard that would constantly disconnect on the Note 2014 now works without issue on the Tab S. I had made modifications to my Note and it ran great and battery life was good, but the Tab S is just better, in every way. The ONLY thing I miss is the S Pen and I wish they would just release all their products with an S Pen, because with their track record, I'm preparing myself to be pissed when in a couple months they announce the Note S (I assume around the time they release the Note 4) [emoji35]

It doesn't work like that. The S Pen works with the wacom digitizer which is built into the screen of Note devices. The Tab S doesn't have th3 wacom digitizer so no, the S Pen won't work with it (the one from my Note 3 doesn't work with it for example).
The N10.1-14, Pro's, and Tab S' are the same devices repackaged. They're all using the same SoC's, core UI (TW 4.4 with or w/o M-UX), and h/w components. Exceptions being form factor, LCD vs. AMOLED, USB 3.0 on 12" tablets, finger print reader on the S'. Therefore saying "OMG! What a difference!", either positive or negative, doesn't really jive with reality. I've always been kind of LCD vs. AMOLED agnostic. AMOLED colors tend to be more blown out (which I actually like), blacks and contrast speak for themselves, but white's are always blueish. LCD displays tend to be brighter, colors are less vivid and separated, blacks and contrast weaker, with truer whites. Counting Apple's devices LCD still outsells AMOLED 4:1.
AMOLED sucks battery on whites and kicks butt on darker colors. Most productivity apps have white backgrounds which is definitely going to be a problem for productivity users. As will browsing and using the Tab S as a reader.
As for Samsung's LCD QHD tablet displays, they are the best LCD displays currently available and by no means deficient. To each their own...

I've had both, and the difference in battery life is more than a couple hours doing the same tasks. I didn't comment on the snappiness because your right, it's all the same internals however the software is tweaked differently which makes a difference as well.
My tablets are for web browsing and media consumption and for that I usually get by without any lags or jerkiness WITH power saving on. I posted in the battery life thread and you'll notice my even shots have power saving on as I don't really game anymore much less on my tablet. Either way, I've seen real world improvements but I understand your core point.
I also disagree that amoled whites are blueish, my note 3 and tab s have the truest whites of all my devices including my macbook pro to the point where I use them at about 20% brightness indoors, often times even less because over that the whites hurt my eyes. And this also has me thinking if the battery life test you posted was with brightness at 100% as with my tab s I get about 1 hour and 15 minutes per 10% battery while browsing so I'm not sure what they did to get those results.

I didn't post to make anyone with a Tab S like it less. I really like the design, accessories, and larger display on the 10.5. But people can get "deals" on the Pro's and N10.1-14 that makes them worth considering (for some). I'm a 10" fan so have no interest in the 8.4 but a Pro 8.4 can be had at Best Buy for $229 which makes it pretty compelling; especially since it's S-800. Point being there's lots to like about the S' but their release didn't instantly make the Note/Pro's cow dung.
The white point average (closest to 6,500K is better) for the devices we're talking about is:
Note 3 - 7,126
Note 10.1 - 2014 - 6,821
Tab S 10.5 - 6,516
Tab S 8.4 - 6,295
IPad Air - 7,377
So the N10.1-14 does better on whites than all but the 10.5 Tab S and with a much smaller margin the S 8.4.
If you're interested, here are the links showing the detailed results for the Tab S and N10.1-14. There's no question the S' results are better (with the exception of brightness) but, for an LCD display, Samsung did a good job with their QHD panels. But let's face it, people judge displays based on what looks best to them and that's more important than statistics.

Same device indeed but the performance on responsive was on the software is staggering. My note was running a custom room with everything tweaked and it still cannot open a keyboard without a split second lag or two. Everything was always one step behind and never instantaneous. The tab s is the only Android device that made me feel it was on par with the iPad in fluidity and that's high praise.

Hey, theres 1 thing I don't like about the Tab S display. In movies human skin has an orange tint which I can't get used to, I'm awaiting a custom kernel that allows synapse color editing as it's the only one that allows for negative values, all other screen editing apps only allow you to add, not minus.

Lol to each his own. I setup my androids pretty much the same way so the basis for my comparisons are the same. I'm using the Lte variant BTW running on 800, I'm pretty sure most people are on the WiFi only model, perhaps a reasons for the discrepancy?

Aren't you using a third party launcher? Any comparisons I've made are stock<>stock. You shouldn't have to blow away features to get decent (whatever that means ) performance.

For me it isn't a matter of principal but just do what works. TouchWiz doesn't work so I replaced it with something that does. I consider anything which the average person can install from the Play Store without root to be "stock" and fair for comparison purposes.
I don't buy Samsung for their awesome software. ☺

All I needed was root. I deboalted and all was well, same as I did with the note. Others complained of lags there too but I was lag free after debloating there as well. I also prefer touchwiz on my tablet even though I use nova on my note 3. I'll post a review video sometime this week. If it's one thing I wish samsung would do is debloat by default lol.

Launchers change the UI of a device. They don't blow away anything, just a different interface to utilize.
Go to task manager and check the RAM with different launchers and the same things in use, the ram ain't going to change. Bloatware impedes performance and alternate launchers do not remove them so that is why folks want to root. One can also turn off featues like multitask if they don't use them.
TouchWiz is much better than it use to be. I can easily live with this UI on the S.

The pro 8.4 was $249 two weeks ago for a single week. They are back at $330 now and were last week as well.
Is the upgrade worth it? Ordered a Samsung tab s2 9.7 but haven't second thoughts , is it really worth he 400 quid to upgrade
I prefer the new form factor but I don't think it's worth that kind of money upgrading from my Tab Pro 10.1, let alone the Tab S.

I did it, and would do it again. Last year's model was nice, and when I saw this year's model, I was kinda upset about them changing the aspect ratio. After seeing, and using the s2 in person at BestBuy, I understood why Sammy went with 4:3 now, and I have to say I prefer it.

It's not as sharp if you compare them carefully side by side. Whether you'll notice the difference or be bothered by it in normal use, that's impossible to say as it's up to the individual.

It's really not THAT noticeable. Like Nasty said, the performance is MUCH better. It's night and day honestly.
But it shouldn't really be any different . At least the same.
No, do not get on the tab s2 bandwagon. I have a 9.7 and an 8.0, both have same problem. When battery hits 8 percent the screen goes blank and unit will not respond. Must press and hold power button to reboot but they won't because the battery gauge now reads 0.
5.1.1 also ruined fingerprint sensor for me. Going back to the heavier note 12.2.

I've personally never experienced that problem on my 9.7,been as low as 8% on a few occasions & nothing has gone blank,when I hit 5% the screen goes dimmer which I guess is a battery saving feature,I usually let it get to 3% and stick it on the charger,change it for another one.

I didnt like the speaker arrangement on S2. Now when you watch movie, the sound is overloaded on one side! LOL! That is stupid!
I'm a avid tablet upgrader. I used to do it more often, now I"m down to once a year. However, my last 3 have all been samsungs. Including the S and now the S2. I do a lot of public speaking and use my tablet, so I thought the smaller form factor would be a negative, BUT I was so frustrated with the positioning of the home button and associated buttons on the S, that it was worth the smaller size to get it at the bottom of the tablet. I've loved it since I've got it. Lighter, sleeker, and I haven't noticed any negative related to battery live or display. My 1 complaint, is the lack of a keyboard like we had with the S. I used it frequently at conferences and in travel to take notes... unfortunately it's not an option yet on the S2.

I do a lot of public speaking and use my tablet, so I thought the smaller form factor would be a negative, BUT I was so frustrated with the positioning of the home button and associated buttons on the S, that it was worth the smaller size to get it at the bottom of the tablet. I've loved it since I've got it. Lighter, sleeker, and I haven't noticed any negative related to battery live or display. My 1 complaint, is the lack of a keyboard like we had with the S. I used it frequently at conferences and in travel to take notes... unfortunately it's not an option yet on the S2.

There is a keyboard case by samsung out
I love my S2 - 9.7 and once we can get CM12 on it...... it will be perfect.
I dislike the 4:3 screen.
Can't wait to get mine tomorrow
Money no problem and I was thinking of getting the S2. Then I go to BB and play with it and the sound is super terrible. It sound tiny and very weak compared to my first gen Tab S.
Why is Samsung doing this?
