Holy crap, screen cracked! - Samsung Gear Live

I was out mowing the lawn and had it on while I was using the weed whipper. Got done and looked down and there was a huge crack across the screen. Apparently the screen is quite brittle. Note to self not to have it on for anything that would be classified as work. My Sony Smartwatch 2 was bulletproof.

Not at all, that's why I was so surprised. I just wiped my arms off from the grass on it, and I noticed it. It was fine prior to my yard work.

Yeah, everything works, but just an annoying crack. May not be a bad idea to throw a screen protector on these bad boys.

As a sidenote, THIS is why you always wear protective eye wear when using a weedwhacker. Can you imagine if a rock fast enough to crack that screen had hit your eye?

They Play Store said they couldn't do anything about it and guided me towards Samsung. I contacted Samsung and it sounds like a 50/50 shot of them warrantying it. If they don't cover it (which I suspect they're going to say), it'll cost about $70.
Now of course, I'll be without it for 10 or so days. :crying:

About 90% of it. I told them I was mowing the lawn and when I got done, I noticed a crack in the screen. Told them I didn't feel anything hit the watch and it wasn't dropped in any way (of which both comments are completely true). I just didn't mention weed whipping.

I want to know what they decide to do!
I knew from looking at it that the flat screen wasn't going to necessarily be a good thing. The Galaxy Gear has a nice curved screen and seems less prone to cracking.
Oy.

Well, lesson learned, they'd only be willing to replace the screen the cost of $161.83. So, that's pretty much at the cost of the device. Their policy is never to cover screen replacement regardless of cause. Even if they have a weak defect in your screen and you just magnified the defect, they don't cover it.
Anyone know of options outside of Samsung Support that can repair this device at a more reasonable cost?

Is it worth a try, yes, but no, I don't really expect them to replace it for free, but c'mon, $161.83 to replace it? The thing cost $199 new. They could at least be reasonable with it. They originally quoted $70 for screen replacement over the phone and when they received it and looked at it, decided $161 was the going rate? I asked if they'd be willing to split it, but they were a no-go.

It's a sad day today for my Nexus...

So today I am just chillin, and pull out my phone from my pocket and I didnt really grip it hard and just falls from my hands... I swear when it dropped it felt that it was falling in slow motion. And out of all the places it could fall, it falls at an angle and then on the screen.
I picked it up and I see the top of the screen has a crack from one side to the other, and another crack on the bottom right corner. And it gets worse, when I turned on the screen the touch doesnt work at all so basically my whole screen is messed up.
Found a website that sells the screen already glued with the frame and a battery so all its missing is the motherboard and internal stuff.
Buttt its $170 so yea gotta wait till next week when I get payed.
I would post pics but dont have 10 posts so yea, it really sucks I've had the phone for about a month and I always protected it. :crying::crying::crying:
Sorry to hear that but I've read that LG will repair your screen for less than that.

hmmm..... But isn't LG already being super slow to produce the device itself, would probably take them a month to do it and I kinda need a phone
Asking them to give you a price and time estimate cannot hurt. Additionally, the limiting step of production is more likely everything that goes on that motherboard, not the touch screen.

But for the screen fix, try to see if you can find a lower price. Doesn't hurt to continue searching the web.

LG will not give you a quote. They will only say, "We cannot give you a quote without you sending it in. Please send the phone in to us, with you being responsible for shipping, and then once we've had a chance to look at it, we will let you know the cost of the repair."
Even after I pushed saying how about the front lcd and digitizer, they still wouldn't give me an estimate.
Sam Thing happened to me.. just 1 crack but half the touchscreen doesnt work.. i've seen plenty of ppl with cracked iphones whose touch still works.. called lg and they told me the same thing. Don't know if its worth wasting money on shipping just to find out they charge more for repair.. kind of a risk. Did you ever end up getting it fixed?

That really sucks... Something about these new phones, in particular the ones with the new touch sensor in glass or whatever they call it. The touch response is gone on a crack. I recall my first Droid had two cracks across the entire face and it worked flawlessly... I think I'd rather have that 1mm gap in the display/glass then have to replace it due to a simple crack.

knock on wood, i hope i don't drop it, i have butter fingers too, i did let it slip once but i had the usb cable in it still and it only fell like 2 foot on soft wooden floor, if you drop it from your pocket( 4ft >) and it hits hard floor like cement, its a goner i think!

Nexus 4 with scratched on the default screen protector

Just got my phone now.
I noticed that there were concentrated scratched in the middle of the phone of the protector. I was little afraid that the scratched went through the default screen protector(cover, plastic thing), so I peeled it off and have a look at it. It looks like there wasn't any scratch on the screen, so I'm OK.
But I'm a little concern why there was a scratch there in the first place. I'll probably email google about this.
I wouldn't worry about it too much
As long as your phone is ok then they won't do anything about it
Well now you know why they put it on before it ships. And exactly what kind of answer are you expecting from Google? Just curious..
Maybe they sent you an RMA. Lol jk

I'm sure no one wants to see their phone with scratches when they first open the box? It wasn' just like one scratch, it was quite a few and quite deep. If you put your fingers across it, you can feel the rough areas.
Thought I warn some people to check carefully when they got theirs in this batch. Wasn't expecting anything from google unless I see some damage on it. i didn't turn on my phone yet, so going to do that when I get home from work.

[Help] Drop phone in Redbull and Vodka

Well like the title says I got drunk and had the phone on my lap with no case and the cup was in between my legs and I leaned over like a drunk ass forgetting my phone was in my lap then splash.
I know that there are other treads in other forums about this but since our phones are inseparable so we cant remove the battery I have no idea what to do! i put it in rice for like 3 days in my car and now what i plug it in my charging light just blinks and it never turns on. I know that light means there is a charging error but does anyone know if there is any way to fix it without having to take it apart? or sending it back to sprint?
I know its not the water that ruins the silicon but that its the electricity from the battery so im wondering if I fried my charging port or even worse my board?
thanks in advance.

Nope, if it won't charge it's dead. The phone is basically impossible to take apart without damaging the shell, most insurance companies won't cover water damage, and even if the rice trick had worked it never works for all that long.
Maybe that is a sign you should drink less?
I did the same thing (with beer) at a pens game and my ol HTC hero but rice saved it. That's actually how I discovered xda and rooting. But I digress... Sorry, sounds like it's toast.

I feel your pain. I was at a party as well when my drunk ass left my phone on a table and beer spilled beer all over my one. My phone immediately started bootlooping. The sad part was that I was so drunk, I hadn't even realized what had happened. I thought what the hell is wrong with my phone? Oh well, I'll fix it tomorrow when I'm sober. The whole night the thing kept bootlooping until it was dead. The next morning I wake up, hung over mind you, I pick up my phone and look at my tpu case and realize there is some liquid in my case. That's when i realized the reality of what occurred last night. Beer had spilled all over my phone!! I let it dry for over a week but I am certain that I have a bootlooping paper weight in my hands now. When i plug it in to charge, it turns on, goes to the htc screen and then shuts back down again. The same bootlooping pattern that occurred the night of the spill. It seems as though the phone wants to charge but cant hold enough juice because Of the constant bootlooping. The sad part is aesthetically, my phone is in perfect condition. I look at it and think to myself, what a waste. The lesson of today for everyone is : KEEP YOUR ONE AWAY FROM ANY WATER SOURCE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY GET YOUR PHONE WET. Especially when drunk and being careless.

Hmm? This should work on all devices as far as I can tell. The company sells the S3 and i5 pretreated, but that doesn't mean we can't do this to our phones.
I'm thinking for the ultimate protection:
Ballistic Aspira case
Mime Ghost screen protector
Liquipel Coating
Total cost: $25 + $25 + $60 (0.o) = $110 for a peace of mind.
It'll be pocketable but pretty much indestructible.

Cases suck. Be an adult and treat your $X00 device with some respect.

This. I have NEVER cracked a screen on any of my smartphones, not because they all had good build quality but because i take care with my gadgets. For example before i got my case for the Nexus 4 i would not put it down on a table without a cloth underneath.

Simple physics guys..
Glass will shatter if it hits the ground hard. Don´t forget you don´t own a simple phone anymore like a Nokia 3310 Your smartphones are actually very sensitive mini computers.
Gorilla Glass may prevent the glass from becoming scratched very easy, it will never prevent it from breaking though.
This is hard to read. I have an S2 that's I've dropped many times from hip level, no case, and the screen has yet to crack.
I definitely bought a case for this one because no matter how careful I am I can't keep my phone from dropping.

Now random cracking is an issue, but even 2 inch toughened (laminated) glass will break if it hits the ground along its edges/corners because the stress distribution is concentrated there.

I obviously agree with your first statement but why do people always have to bring up the iPhone to compare things to. How about an HTC One, or a Samsung Galaxy S4 or an LG G2? People think if an iPhone does something then we can just accept it. I would expect an iPhone to break. It is built by underage kids and is known to get damaged easily regardless of what Apple tells us.

I find it really disrespectful when people talk down on people that drop their phones and say they should be more careful.
The reality is we are all human! human's make mistakes! Some make less than others, but we all make mistakes. If you have never tripped, said the wrong thing, accidentally dropped something, well then congratulations you are a perfect person! But no need to put down others.

Question about metal bezel on note 4

Got my replacement note 4 a few days ago,and noticed that the metal bezel sits a little bit higher off the glass on one side then the other, was wondering if this is a normal ,and by off the glass referring to metal lip around glass, not a huge deal,but...None the less it's there.
Your saying that the metal trim....is thick? As in its raised a couple mm? Mine Has It Straight All around....Not Going Above Or Unto Of The glass.
Lol I mean the metal trim raises above the glass, but not evenly.

Got my replacement note 4 a few days ago,and noticed that the metal bezel sits a little bit higher off the glass on one side then the other, was wondering if this is a normal ,and by off the glass referring to metal lip around glass, not a huge deal,but...None the less it's there.

If it is a refurbished device I would send it back. Might of been put together wrong and down the road you don't wanna get the blame .
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Here some pics, not the greatest being taken with nexus 4,I mean it's just a little off,but off none the less.

Dude I think that's your "gap". Every note 4 has one. it isn't that much a problem like I thought I'd be. I clean my screen all the time hate fingerprints and smugness but I'd say it's "normal" according to the Galaxy Note 4 manual.
Here's 1 more pic,little clearer I guess..
I wouldn't worry about it unless you work outside

Dont worry least your whites dont have hue of pink and yellow to them.
Nah...my first 2 did tho..I feel ur pain on that one,I didn't even want to use my first 2 because of pink hue.
yeah mine has that slight offset. It's the screen that is uneven. Not the frame. It no biggie for me tho. Enjoy your Note 4. Try not to let it bother you.

Yea I am trying, I kinda thought it was the glass for whatever reason, not sure how..Glad to know I'm not the only one tho, makes it into more of a common deal with this phone.

You know that saying, if you go looking for something..... (Yet they say don't go look for love) anyways lol I don't see anything, looks like you want something to be wrong. It's a insurance replacement, the device isn't doing to be fresh, unless you want to dorms $700

Little physical imperfections like that are pretty common with all phones. My Note 4 has a slightly loose power button, my Nexus 5 screen was about a millimeter higher on one side than the other...
Unless it's really causing an issue for you I wouldn't worry about it.
I can live with Minor imperfections like this since I trade up phones ever year but screen issues are a big No No for me. God gifted me with 21-21 vision.
