[Q] how to install custom rom over the stock rom slot on safestrap kk? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I looked up and down but I dont see a trend on this I just want to make sure im doing it right so I dont brick my phone I made a back up of the stock rom. do I just wipe and flash the new rom over the stock rom slot?

Back up your stock rom first then factory reset in safestrap then flash . There are some videos on youtube about ss its older but it still works the same way . Just make sure your chosing the correct rom for your version .
Sent from my SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

personally i dirty flashed dynamickat from safestrap and havent had any issues, but to be safe you should back up the stock rom, and then just move the rom to the internal flash(as simple as dragging and dropping from windows) and then select it from the menu when you go to install, you can do a full wipe or you can see how a dirty flash works for you, just depends really

Read and read and follow directions to the "T" and you'll be fine. I backed up the stock rom first. Did the wipe in SS and then flashed the rom from from my sd card. Surprised how easy it was. I'm flashing like a mofo now lol. I always back up before flashing anything. Just my paranoia.

I just recently got root for official NC2 4.4.2. I want to flash Xnote12 port based off NC2 in the rom slot. Is this OK to do or no? I really don't want to mess with my stock slot. That's what got me in trouble and I ended up making the noobest mistake in wiping the stock slot with xnote12 and loading the JB xnote7 and my phone would not boot up. I ultimately had to send my phone to Samsung to fix it and they updated my firmware to the official NC2... (basterds).

I know I was real slow and wasnt thinking at that point in time But im not that slow. I flashed the JB bootloader ap and bl files before I booted the JB rom in the stock slot. Apparently the rom slots will not boot if the stock slot has no system. I didnt know that. Had I known I would be in a better circumstance with my xnote12. But thats neither here nor there. NC2 is rooted so im good. I just want xnote12 back Without wiping my true NC2 on stock slot. It appears hashcode hasnt got the stock slots working for kitkat yet tho...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51572014 i know you dont wanna touch stock slot but maybe you get the itch to flash xnote12 again. Link provided will get you back up and running if you mess up(hopefully not) again but it wont be stock nc2. You can still root it by installing the nc2 kernel and root with towelroot. This will come in handy for those oh sh!zzzt noments.

Can we use any other rom slots yet on the kk safestrap?

[Q] Possibly Bricked Stock ROM??

Hey all,
Got sort of an odd problem. I recently upgraded my Droid 4 with the Jelly Bean OTA update, and it was running great. But today, I ran across 1% Battery Mod for JB users (located at the link below), and thought I'd try it. But, I think I misread it. Looks like it's for a "Leaked" OTA, which I'm guessing is different from the official one...whoops
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2132420
Stupid me, I flashed it over the stock ROM using Safestrap 3.11, and got a boot animation loop (constant red Droid Eye - no boot). Well, I did make a backup of the stock ROM before I flashed it, and figured I could just restore it. But, when I did, it still wouldn't boot. Just a blank black screen...not good
I'm guessing Safestrap isn't meant to be used like that. But anyway, I actually tried restoring the same backup that I made of the Stock ROM to a ROM Slot, and wouldn't you know it, it worked. It booted up fine and I can use it. I'm glad I'm not screwed in that regard, but anyway I was wondering if there's a way I can fix the Stock ROM slot. I'm not too terribly worried since I can use the ROM slot that I created, but just wanted to know.
Am I gonna have to wait for the fastboot files to come out? Thanks in advance.
xml AP fastboot file has been found see http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_maserati/list.php
if you just want to restore your stock rom slot use my nandroid

Yeah, I was pretty sure of that too. Thanks for the clarification.
Wow, I didn't know that the jb xml was found already, either. I guess I didn't look hard enough. Just for future reference, if I needed to flash it, how would I go about doing it? Would I need to use RSD Lite? And is it just self explainatory? I've used the ICS Utility once, and I'm assuming that RSD Lite is similar. Thanks again guys.

System memory full HELP 4.4.2 Kit Kat

Need urgent help.
I am running Knoxraid 4.4.2 Kit Kat on my Note 3
I was messing around with my files and I saw that I was running low on internal space which was weird because I did not download much to begin with.
Any idea what happened to my storage? I do remember downloading something from chrome and extracting it, but then thats it, thats when I was notified of low space..... seems like i downloaded malware.
Is there any way to do a stock odin flash of Jelly Bean or Kit Kat that could possibly resolve this issue?
Thanks
Edit: for some reason now my safe strap is gone and now I cannot install it back because I am unable to hit "install unknown apps" from the security tab because Settings always crashes upon tapping that.
Help would be much appreciated.
Maybe using the search button would help. It's a simple answer.

I flashed the Official leaked AT&T Kit Kat version, and the problem went away (no root/recovery now) but I would really like to downgrade back to JB.
Can I just simply flash JB stock firmware back through Odin without any issue?
I heard the bootloaders are different on Kit Kat.
Thanks.

I had the same problem. Updating to Kitkat as we speak on my replaced phone.

Then again, why not just flash a 4.4.2 rom? You'd retain root, and it's basically the exact same hahahaha

Same here, not rooted and it got to 25% or so
To the people saying "I'm not rooted", WERE you rooted? I read somewhere else that could be the issue. I unrooted so I could update and it failed the same way as everyone else here. Please specify everything when you say you're not rooted. I read that someone who left their device rooted got it to update just fine but they lost root, which is to be expected but it did actually work for the guy. I'm going to reroot and try again.

I would say the issue has to be on AT&T's end. I had issues with my internet so I soft bricked mine during the rooting process b/c the file was corrupted. Used odin to revert back to stock MJ5 and then updated to NB4. I have tried to wipe the data for the download manager within the app manager, wiped cache in recovery, did a factory reset after getting updated to NB4 and tried different working internet sources just to make sure.

It's a device issue. Certain files that should be there are gone and files that shouldn't be there are there.
It's not on AT&T's end. It's local to the device software itself

Ok, so if I am at 4.3, and want to keep my root, is there a path to kk that still has root? I would prefer the non ss route. BTW, the main thing that makes me root is I want to use my Microsd card and when unrooted backup and other apps seem unable to access it properly.

Stock slot, would that be the one that is the original ROM?
Dynamic Kat looks intreguing. But it says I have to have KK first. Can I get DK working from JB rooted?
Indeed it is.
Use this guide. (replace the Urdroid KK ROM that he says to download with DynamicKat)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712039
Then head over to our development section and find the SS thread.
You will need both 3.71 and 3.72
3.71 will get you to KK with the guide. Once there, you will need to reinstall it and use it to uninstall the recovery.
Then uninstall the app.
After that, install 3.72 and use it to install your new recovery. That way you don't have to use odin every time you want to flash a mod or new kk rom

1. Don't hijack threads
2. Only TW based ROMs can be flashed.
3. Go read the SS development thread.
You need to make sure you are on 3.71 when trying to flash a 4.3 ROM and 3.72 to use KK.

Yes Your Bootloader is locked
No SafeStrap did not unlock it
Yes You can flash a ROM from SafeStrap (similar to flashing any other rom)
(make sure you choose install recovery from the app first)
just reboot to recovery (through the safestrap application backup your existing rom
and flash your shinny new custom rom.

Can you do a nandroid backup of everything on your phone with safestrap?
And we can install safestrap on AT&T no problem right?
Safestrap is just a way to get a custom recovery installed. Safestrap adds a menu to the boot up process that allows you to boot into twrp recovery. You can do anything you want there, except flash kernels.
