"Could not install" update - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My phone's current build number is 12.0.A.2.254
I've downloaded 12.1.A.1.205 but 30 s after restarting and installing it says "Could not install" and then I have to download it again and repeats.
How do I fix this?

Are you rooted and/or have xposed installed? And you're talking about OTA right?

Oh my phone is rooted and have SuperSU? OTA means through my phone right? If so yea it's not via my pc.
On SuperSU there is a "Full Unroot" option which says "Cleanup for permanent unroot"
Will the update work after it's unrooted and will I loose all my setting and app data if I do this?

If you don't know what root is, you don't have it
If you have xposed installed, Uninstall the bridge, then your OTA may work. Use supersu survival mode, not root cleanup

Select only those for SP and Flashmode
After this you will lose everything, for Super easy root method search SP forum for Tr.apk

My phone is on 4.1.2 though, can I use the ones listed under 4.3?

If you want 4.3 use 4.3 Rom
For 4.1.2 Use 4.1.2 Rom
Flashtool dont care what version you want to use
I was upgrading mine from 4.1.2 to 4.3 using flashtool and Stock 4.3 ftf and i have Locked Bootloader so if this metod would be faulty i would end with brick instead of phone
P.S This will make CLEAN install of 4.3 You wil LOSE ALL your data, apps and stuff on System and Data Partition (Build in 5,3Gb Partition).

Rooted 4.2 can't update ota?

My rooted 4.2 c5502 started showing ota for 4.3 (file size is 307.1Mb), I was hoping update via ota would retain the root. Unfortunately, after many tries, the update keep on failing.
When click on update, system will reboot and screen showing android icon with a progress bar. The progress bar will run for about 3 or 4 second and system just rebootsback to lockscreen and show a msg saying "could not install".
I assume this might be due to the dual recovery I installed? Before I try restore the recovery, anyone else able to update via ota and still got root?
I too rooted my phone nd tried to update the phone via OTA. But I was getting error message.
I didnt install any recovery. I just rooted my phone via vroot.
Sent from my C5502 using xda app-developers app

Thanks for the confirmation. I know for sure you can update through PCC as I did for another phone. I too rooted using vroot. Anyone else with other rooting method pls share the result.

Mine also got problem cannot update my ZR. my ZR also root and boatloader still lock. If hard reset can solve the problem or not?
Just try this
Hi, sorry for my bad english

In another thread a possible solution for this problem was mentioned: if you have renamed or deleted some original files (like system apk's or some other protected files) the upgrade routine recognizes it and stops the upgrade process.
In my case the problems were caused by removed apps, when I restored them, everything worked flawlessly.

Install specific update possible?

Hello everyone,
I just ordered me a Z1 and it comes with Android 4.2 included. Not there is already an update possible to 4.4 (Kitkat). But what I want is to go to Version 4.3 of android because of the permission manager. Is there any way to install the specific update? In Version 4.4 the permission manager was removed again. Probably it will never come back
Thanks!!
Best,
Fresh
Yes, use flashtool.net
But what do you mean "Permission manager"

I think he is referring about SD Permission...
no, I have read about the (hidden) possibility in 4.3 to manage apps permissions like disallow GPS for apps and so on like on iOS.

Still unsure what you mean. I have not read anything like that specific for 4.3, can you share a link as to where you read it.

App Ops are present in 4.4.2 too. You have to use an app like this AppOps to find the hidden feature
But in 4.4.2 you need to root your device. In the past versions it was possible without root access...

..anyway, your question was answered, you have to use latest flashtool and there is no way to update to 4.3 via PC Companion or OTA by selecting the FW as they always give the latest.
Still don't understand, if you have use Flashtool, why you don't want Rooted 4.4. Don't worry, your warranty will not be voided and you will have more fun.

[Q] OTA .205 update and root

Im using rooted 201 + recovery installed. i just got the 205 OTA update. if i update will i loose root? and if i do loose root can i root it with that new rooting app with out an issue? i mean with superuser and recovery might be an issue with it?
Update and see what it does, new towelroot app works a charm if you need to re-root.
Make sure you have the ota root protection ticked in SuperSU.

If you are rooted, have a custom kernel installed, are unencrypted, or have TWRP installed, the OTA will fail. Also, if any system apps are disabled it will cause the OTA to fail.

How to disable system updates?

I have OEM non-rooted phone with original 4.4.4 Android.
Phone keeps bugging me about installing the latest OTA Lollipop update it downloaded over WiFi even without my permission.
How would I disable it? Apparently with possible MMC Fail I don't want any updates installed.

1.non root method
If you dont want to root You can download "package disabler pro" app ftom playstore and disable "software update" from apps list.
2.Root method
Root your phone and install titanium backup app from playstore then from titanium backup app search in app list "software update" click on it and hit freeze.
For root you can use kingroot app since you are on kitkat or Twrp recovery+supersu method.
Hope this wil help.
Thanks! #1 worked like charm

Not only the "Software Update" but also the "System Update" (in some ROMS like the Jasmine 3).
Also, you want to delete the 400M update file /cache/fota/update.zip
Why dont you want to uodate?
I just picked up a t-mobile note 4. Currently on EPG2 baeband, Should I be concerned with firmware updates?
