[Tutorial] Fix FOTA bricked (unlocked bootloader) Phones

Hi,
This will fix your unlocked Phones which got bricked through OTA update and are dead now!
Please download this package:
MOD EDIT Link Removed at OPs request
Let it extract to a destination of your choice.
After that run Flashtool.exe.
Now hit the button FLASH and select the package which is included.
Follow the steps and connect your phone in flashmode. This is the same mode Pc Companion and SEUS uses to flash your phone to newer firmare (Indicated by green LED), if you got BLUE LED you are in the wrong mode!
Flashtool will now detect your phone and start the repair.
After all is done your phone should be up and running again.
ADVICE:
PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OTA'S ! If you receive a OTA message just decline, if you accept it you will end with a brick AGAIN! So please do NOT accept them until SonyEricsson provides a OTA solution for unlocked Bootloaders!
Best Regards
Team FreeXperia

TA files contain hex data that's written to Trim Area of the phone. TA is very sensitive to modifications - if you change some important TA unit (especially in TA Misc) you can make your phone useless.
Wowww you guys are simply great Awesome!
You can really help a lot of people with this
ive just tried this and it doesnt work for me, it jyst keep saying:

Androxyde will look into the Flashtool Error this evening. Maybe the file is just too short and flashtool gets confused.

adding junk in comment might work? //junkjunkjunkjunkjunk
also, original simlock.ta file from SE has got 0128 before actual hex data and after TA address
What I got:
16/007/2011 21:07:16 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted
16/007/2011 21:07:16 - INFO - Now unplug the device and power it on

Before it dies, both of them were on!
This should be correct preset.ta:
Code:
// [Brick fix]

Try with this one: http://www.mediafire.com/file/838ar7vbur358l4/Play_v1.01_TA brick fix UPDATE.ftf
If you get error, repack bundle with loader.sin from Arc FW (this one is taken from Play fix bundle).

Excellent! I've "cracked" TA file lol
Now reflash phone with FlashTool, fully, with data wipe.
It's working!
Thank you so much.
NP nice to hear that it works...
I reflashed the phone after it died with vutan program. It's just like a new one now!
Do I need to reflash it again?
BTW I thanked you in the other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14783998#post14783998 and posted your method.
Thank you all again.
Is fastboot working?

hi all
I cant' seem to find a valid link for the stock android 1.6 rom, there are only dead links....can anyone please help me??
I bricked my x8, it's something that already happened in the past, and the only way to recover it is to install android 1.6, don't ask why but android 2.1, any of the versions, don't want to install, they always give me the same error :

install PCC on your pc and update phone to android 2.1
thanks for your answer
i forgot to mention that i've already tried almost anything, including installig pc companion on windows, and nothing worked. PCC says there's been some error and the process has been interrupted, but it doesn't give me any useful information...
Really, i don't know what's wrong with my phone, the only thing that works now is android 1.6, but i can't find it on the internet anymore.....help

Do you have PCC or SUS in your PC ?
Do you have ADB driver correct for LT29i ?
You can find ADB driver in flashtool folder
Try Flashtool 0.90 (older )

wow my Note did that and I had to redo the system partitions cuz of damaged blocks on it... I hope its not the same but it should be fixable just really annoying to do so.
You still got warranty and what not from the store you got it at? I'll try and help you out best I can.

[Q] [q] are xperia phones this frustrating to root?!

ok so i just purchased a xperia z1 c6903 unlocked. before receiving the device i read tutorials about how to root it, unlock, custom recovery/rom, etc so i would have an idea how to do it when i got the phone.
fast forward. i got the phone and wanted to root right away. i know with the out of the box firmware i would be able to root. i was on .526 and was going to use kingo root. i didnt want to use root360 or vroot since i was afraid of the malware and at the time i didnt know there was bina4y's way of rooting. when i tried rooting the phone using the most updated version of kingo it said root failed and ended up putting my phone in an endless bootloop. i had to use the sony pc companion to repair the phone but it ended up updating to .257. no problem i thought, ill just downgrade and use flashtool to root and use OTA. this is where the fun begins...
ive used a good chunk of the FTFs for c6903 including the commercial/journalist one so i could get the OTA while maintaining root. ive restarted my computer, changed usb cables and ports, and ive used the newest as well as the previous version of flashtool and it all ended up with the same results. endless bootloops. the only way i could get my phone to boot up is to use sony pc companion and repair again. can someone please help me before i smash this phone out of pure frustration?
I followed this video and rooted fast and painless.
I also rooted my first Z Ultra by unlocking the bootloader etc etc, I will get a new one today which I will not unlock. (First one got destroyed)
So no, I don't think they are frustrating to root.
They are unbelievably easy to root.
I have never had an issue.
Downgrade to any .534 firmware. Ensure you are using the latest version of flashtool and have run drivers.exe from C:\flashtool\drivers (Choose fastboot, flashmode and Z1 drivers)
Ensure you have ticked to wipe everything and have nothing ticked to exclude anything.
If you do this properly you will not get a bootloop.
Root using bin4ry method, update OTA. Done
Xperia phones are really easy to root, even to unlock bootloader - if you know what are you doing or watch what are you doing.
Z1 is relatively new device and that's why it's still going in baby steps.
When Sony fix camera issues (unlocking bootloader) and few months past, guys buy Z1 and start developing, you'll see hiw great things we could have on Xperia devices...
Just be patient, same thing was with Xoerua U, Xperia S and Nexus devices....
It needs time for developers to get phones and "learn" how to bring new stuff on it...

Are you sure you have a C6903? Flashing the wrong FTF will result in bootloop
Make sure you have ticked nothing in the exclude list and have ticked everything in the wipe list

its definitely not fake. got it from a seller who shipped from singapore. has a bunch of positive reviews and selling a lot of them. i think he sold 400+ xperia z1s black and white combined. it also registers as a z1 on my computer as well as the flashtool so im not concerned aout that.

One thing that tripped me up and doesn't seem to get mentioned (maybe I overlooked it or was unlucky).
Turn off the Screen Lock in Settings > Security as well . All the FTFs I tried had Swipe set by default. Kingo root worked fine for me after I did that. Would have saved me hours of frustration.

If you want to root, just be relaxed and follow this guide. You don't need flashtool at all.
TIP: You can actually leave the volume buttons once the phone is detected on the flashtool.

Lol why didn't you mentioned that in the OP? Anyways, can I know, does your phone currently rooted or not?
If it isn't, I am sad to announce, you'll have to wipe the data on your phone. This could be prevented, by entering your gmail address when requested.

I am assuming you are on a stock ROM, follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476938

For your information, flashing through PC Companion is too easy I didn't expect that you didn't make it

Oh I see. I am now assuming you are not installing complete drivers (based on how flashtool reacts), and you also have a 4.3 .207 ftf beforehand.
Please do so by navigating to C:\Flashtool (that's the default installation path, unless yours are different, navigate to yours instead) and then go into the "drivers" folder and run the .exe in it.
Tick "flashmode drivers", "fastboot drivers" and scroll down a bit; find "Common drivers for Viskan board" and tick it as well. Continue the installation. Restart is recommended when complete, and then retry with Flashtool on flashing the same firmware. I hope this one works, otherwise, I may not be able to help you.
