TwerkMyMoto system partition write access - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I'm unfortunately not allowed to directly ask this questions in the Android development thread because of my few posts :crying:
So I will aks it here...
I successfully rooted my phone with TwerkMyMoto and I have root privileges (checked it with an app from F-Droid).
But unfortunately, when I enter the /system directory I don't have write permission to delete these tedious stock rom apps I don't need.
Ghost Commander the also shows that I have only #ro permission.
Other users report that they are able to delete system apps...
Has somebody suggestions what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
Jens

standard filemanager will mount system as read only...
You will need an ROOT-Explorer like "ES File Manager" or "root-explorer".
Than u have to enable "mount system as read/write" in explorer settings.

Oh thanks man, there is also a very very small point in Ghost Commander with "Remount /..." and then the button is over.
Pressing this button does a remount and I'm able to delete the sh*t
Thx!!!

[SOLVED] emmc and sdcard problems...

soo, i flashed a new rom, after rebooting i realised that my internad sd card is missing
i could find it in mnt/emmc but the phone wasnt using it at all...
long story short i checked some forums and i found out you can edit the vold.fstab and get it working... Now theres another problem, my vold.fstab is Read only ( few failed atempts to change it)
i found another solution which included terminal emulator- this one worked like a charm BUT i have to retype and unmount-mount that everytime i reboot my phone ... i personally find it silly
sooooo is there any other solutions, or some guide how to change the premission on my vold.fstab so i can edit it? or am i forced to buy a SDcard
Everything on /system is read only by default.
'adb remount' will sort that.

So how do you remount? Sorry, im new to this stuff
adb remount is a command sent from your PC to the phone. I figured if you were messing about with system files you'd have an idea what you're up to
To make it all simple, get Root Explorer, that has a nice R/W button that you tap, make your changes and tap it again to go back to R/O

Is there a guide to root explorer

Hi,
Im running rocket rom v6. I want to paste the accuweather transparent app into the system apps folder but it wont allow me to. My phone is rooted, mobile odin runs fine but I cant seem to paste into any system folder.
I realize its a permission issue, but how do I get round it? Are there any guides I could read?
Thanks in advance

I use ES File explore from the Play Store. Just go to setting then you can enable "Up to root", "Root Explorer", and "Mount File System". Then you can copy and paste to the system/app foler.

[Q] running debloat script.. won't run??

Got the new one for 5.7.906 rooted and dled script manager
when I run psouza4's script after answering questions about what I wanted to keep
It froze right away saying myverizon.apk was read only or something
rebooting... reboot not permitted.
so.. I figured I'd just change that one manually.. changed it, ran it again.. and it froze saying file not found...
so i edited to script to remove that one command/file..
ran it again and i got
"working please wait.....
reboot: operation not permitted"
so I was going to go the titanium route but I can't afford pro version.. also reading through psouza4's thread it notes that some apps will circumvent freezing and load anyway unless renamed..
[q1] does anyone else have this problem with script and if so what was the fix?
[q2] if I have to rename everything manually (a huge pain in the arse) what are the names of the *.apk's associated with
home launcher, motorolas text messaging, widgits, swipe keyboard, ect.. in his list so i don't accidentally remove them?
Thanks!

Ensure usb debugging is on under development in application settings. Verify you are rooted, if not, only motofail will root 906. Else, try using a root browser, or manually make /system and /system/app writable before running the script.

root = verified
/system and /system/app set to R/W
usb debuging = on
used modified script removing all instances of 2>/dev/null and reboot command
now I'm getting *.apk not read/writable
confirm that /system and /system/app it set to read/write and when i hit properties.. only the read box is checked.. so i go to change it again.. and the other boxes (read, write, execute) are already checked... I don't understand.
I have the newest version of busy box installed I know he changed the syntax after v1.182 but I can't seem to find a copy of that version.. maybe thats the problem? ugh..

When you loaded the script into script manager, did you check the select to allow the script to run with SU permissions? in other words, you start script manager, you load the debloat script, there are a bunch of options available before you hit the "run" button, one of which allows the script to run with root permissions. My guess is that you missed that, based on what you are describing.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.. :good:
got it to work.. It was afterall allowing to run the script as root as doogald suggested.. can't believe i missed that.

HTC One M7 - App will not stick on /system

Hi everyone
I'm trying to get the infamous GPS Location Spoofer installed as a system app on my rooted HTC phone, but so far no luck, so I figured I would try to ask for help here, in case anyone went through a similar situation, or knows what I've been doing wrong. This is what I tried so far:
Installed the app from Google App store, and using File Explorer with root , tried to move the app folder to /system/app or /system/priv-app, , but pasting the folder there would result in an instant reboot and the app would not be there.
So I installed lucky patcher , and using apk downloader, downloaded the apk file from the App Store, copied it over to the phone, and used the "Rebuild and Install" option, choosing the option to install it as a system app , and it would process it and say that the installation was sucessfull, needs to reboot to complete, but after the reboot the app would not be there (not only not showing on the apps list, but navigating to the /system folder with File Explorer and checking app and priv-app I could verify that it was not installed).
SO I tried to use adb shell to do the work , and this is what I did:
mount -o remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p35 /system
to mount the /system filesystem as read write , and it did
cp /sdcard/Download/com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre-55.apk /system/app
to copy the file under /system/app
chmod 644 com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre-55.apk
to set the permissions as required
and reboot the phone, but after the reboot, the file would not be there. I tried also to create a folder under /system/app named com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre-55, move the apk inside; installing normally , changing the mount point to read-write and moving it from /data/app to /system/app or /system/priv-app using the shell and chaning ownership / permissions , but the app will not stick , either rebooting or just re-mounting the filesystem as read-only again will cause everything that was done to be lost; and after trying any of the above one time, doing it for a second time would cause the phone to reboot.
I figure that there must be an image of the /system mount point somewhere , which gets installed every time there is a remount to read-only or reboot , or something of that nature, that will cause any changes made under /system to be lost. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to be related to HTC phones, since there's load of people doing it on other models without issues, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, since I'm no android expert
Does anyone knows what could be the issue, or what can I do ? I searched the net quite a bit for a solution to no avail (here as well), any help is appreciated
Thanks

And there's your problem. Stock kernel has system write protection, so you can't mount system as writeable. You can, but after reboot, it comes back to read only, and nothing will stick into system partition. You have 2 choices now - disable system write protection on stock kernel, or flash a custom kernel

oh I see.. didn't know about that , thanks! I'll check about disabling system write protection , otherwise look for a custom kernel, never did it before but will give it a try

Sorry you feel that way, but I appreciate the help anyway. This is something that I never tampered with before, so I still had some doubts about the process, but I am liking the whole thing and will install a custom rom on my own phone, been reading about the Ressurection rom and it looks very nice, will try it as soon as I'm better informed

That's just for the hosts file. You want to know if /system is mounted rw. If you have an app like terminal emulator, open it and type: mount Then look for /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system on /system type ext4. In parentheses it will either have ro (read-only) or rw(read-write).
Also, I don't use Solid explorer but it probably has a way to mount the system rw. Someone else would have to help you with that.
Edit: You would have to be rooted to change permissions with a file manager like Solid.

Download version 3.2 or higher and activate "enable systemless mode" in preferences. Then you won't get that error.

I have a problem too looks like this and it cannot load it... help
Check your host sources, too. Here's what I use.
Heloo the same problem herr tried all means mentioned above no help bad enough i don't see systemless in Adaway 3.3
Image
Solution - go to twrp, go to wipe then advanced wipe, select system and then tap on increase size.
The problem is because the partition has no space left to accommodate files. You will not be able to write host files nor change font via ifont because both files need space ~5mb. Hope this solves your problem.
