Just curious, I just got a sprint tab with data. Thought I would use it more, but my epic 4g does every and it more portable. So do you use for work, play, school or something else.

I use it for getting my emails (work mainly), some games, movies i've ripped from my dvds, storage for my photos from my htc touch and my galaxy s.
Sometimes i use it for twitter, facebook, and even browse once in a while .
Oh, XDA forums too
I have a GalaxyS as well, and while i agree that it does everything and is more portable, i still prefer the bigger screen when typing (now that i have the thumb keyboard on the tab, it is so much easier to type with my thumbs now)
all daily tasks, including phone call, sms/mms......
I use mine just like I would use a laptop. I have my desktop setup for remote desktop and I like using it to browsing the web for extended periods of time. I take classes online it's great for watching/listening to live chats (since it has flash). I also watch streaming videos and dvd rips...and now I can watch Netflix and do Skype!). Download torrents on it...use it as a stand alone GPS receiver (use Co-Pilot for offline maps) . Play games on it (as I don't really like playing games on my Evo b/c of the smaller screen... I prefer the 7's)
I rarely use the camera however with this latest Gingerbread update I may start using Skype more. I hope they update the Google Talk to include Video soon, then it might be enough to keep me from getting a larger Honeycomb tablet as soon. I still want the 10.1 version...but for now the 7" Galaxy Tab is perfect for my needs.
Oh...and I use it as wi-fi only (the service was cancelled since I can tether for free from my MyTouch 4G)
I totally replace my old xperia x10 mini with this beauty... i use it most for play ps one and some gameloft games... also as a notebook replacement, as a phone... enjoy music and videos... some chat too.

I use mine for browsing the internet in the living room, or reading/writing emails. The most used app is actually the IMDB app as I find the initial screen with trailers for up-coming films very useful (and a joy to use!)
I recently got a SGS2, so the tab has been sat round not doing much for a while, but I'm slowly coming back to it.
It's also great for long train or coach journey. It's the size of a portable DVD player, so great for films/TV, and gaming is lovely on it! Especially with the great Gameloft games that came for free when I got it.
I use my tab a lot for reading. I have a lot of books and articles in various formats like pdf, djvu, kindle and the tab is small enough to carry my library everywhere and big enough to comfortably read and browse.
The big screen (compared to a phone) is also a plus for watching videos, gaming and browsing desktop version of websites.
I also use it to listen to internet radio and mp3, record photos and videos and as GPS device. I use my laptop now just for things where I need special software (like Odin ;-)) or a real keybord.
I really love this device and it clearly exceeded my expectations.

I just buy one new in France for 150€ without contract (very very good deal), and I'm very please with it.
I use it as my primary phone with a Sony MBW600 bluetooth headset.
Lot of game (just finished plant vs Zombi) and multimedia use : 3 episodes from Games of throne, with subtittles, and it was very nice.
So I root it, put overcome 2.0.1 and desimlock !
I go often on the web and check my mails with the stock Samsung application which is very nice.
One of the best thing i ever had...
I us it mostly for couch browsing (I'm too lazy for powering up laptop), emails, youtube and kindle
I rearly play games or other stuffs, but I will probably use it for skype video calls when upgrade to gingerbread

The Tab plays movies you can get from torrents just great with no conversions needed. Getting them converted to play on my iPad is a royal pain. So my Tab goes with me on the airplane as my portable movie player. Also works great for email but for browsing the web I prefer the larger screen of the iPad.

Well I have an old plan with Sprint since 2002 which is sinfully cheap and they'll force me to triple my bill if I want any current smartphone (using a Treo Pro) right now.
So I scored a Verizon Tab 7 new on Craigslist for 200 and get my Android fix that way. Actually at the doctors office right now tethered via wifi. Use it for web/email/music/so forth.
Might invest in the $20/1gb plan down the road.
Actually prefer it this way. The 7" screen is big enough yet size is pocketable to carry around.

love my tab for reading all my ebooks and digital comics, streaming slacker and youtube when i'm running around, and the occasional angry birds..
Everything i can do with a phone and a laptop.
But have passed the tab on to my wife now.
I use it in my classroom because much of the internet is blocked, to show video, or pictures, and to show calculator useage lessons.
I use it in Mexico to interview families using an app I wrote. I take a family photo, and get the gps coordinates, record the answers to the interview, then save the data as an .xml file, and export it to our database, where our families are posted to a google earth map for American churches to select and commit to the project of building a free home for these very poor families.

Ill b using my newly acquired Tab 7 as my in car entertainment ill still use it around the house for browsing n playing games though. Im in the process of removing my current stereo, starting to be impractical to have to remove subs n amps when I take my car onto the racetrack. So having a tab will be great, covers my music n video, n ill only have to run a small amp for the speakers. Ill post up pics when I get it all done

So, I have heard some mixed opinions from both reviewers and general users of the device who claim that this device can be utilised for all their electronic needs -- "a true all-in-one" device. And, yet, others have been left slightly disappointed and claim that the lack of portability and an inability to run tablet apps leaves a lot to be desired both as a phone - let alone a tablet as well. Hence, I would like to know what the forum users here think about the Note. Does it serve as a true "all-in-one" device or do you still feel yourself turning towards a tablet, MP3 player, or other devices?

Yes, I have. I am just curious as to whether people who own a Note still utilise a tablet at all.
It depends on your capability, ability and availability of the phone, apps you installed and the relation of your work to the phone..i.e.corporate?

It is not an all in one device. However, I do not use my iPad much after I bought the Note. It's still small for Web Surfing.

most definitely. Use both desktop view and mobile web views. Google News, Flipboard. Video links are great to watch, and the in-your-pocket portability means you have the device everywhere all the time. Can't say that with a tablet. Again, the Nexus 7 looks sweet, but you know what, this "phablet" (hate the term) cancels the need for a 7 inch tablet.
Videos:
I'm studying for my Cisco certs, and a large part of that is from youtube videos. TED videos are great as well. Perfect size for a quick 6 minute video, either lying in bed or on break at work or waiting in line somewhere. Mind you, my LG HBS700 goes with me everywhere my Note goes... which leads me to the next item --
Music:
Definitely my go-to music player. Have bluetooth headset on all the time (doubles as earplugs when needed, lol). Two bluetooth portable speakers are used all the time -- Creative D100 and Monster Clarity HD. It's amazing the number of music players I use -- bluetooth a song from a friend's HTC windows mobile, select a station on Pandora for a few hours, scrobble a neighbor's library from Last.fm for a change of pace, use WinAmp for some years-old playlist, search and play from youtube, listen to another chapter from an audiobook (WOT FTW!)
Movies/TV:
I have a Netflix account, and like watching documentary series. At 45 min a pop, the Note is great on a stand while studying (erm, "multi-tasking") on my PC's big screen. Even though I don't have time nor tolerance for TV's fictions, Brighthouse Networks in Central Florida has an app that lets you watch TV on your device (Weather on the Ones). There's also HBO GO and MAX GO, both free. Yes, the black blotching sucks (negligible when HDMI is played at night through a portable projector like the AAXA P4X), but non-fiction is brighter than fiction, and I like facts more than fantasy.
Communication:
I use the phone portion least, because I prefer texting and emails (no patience for blabbermouths). Love email push notifications, so much better than having to load a webpage then check randomly. I also don't have a phone plan, using a tablet data-only plan and a semi-permanent Skype number for making and receiving calls (Germany for free, hellz yeah). Google Voice and Whatapp fill in the texting needs. Don't twitter and don't FB... don't ask.
Gaming:
Oh yeah, this device rocks for casual gaming. Maybe when I pass my CCNA I'll research and root for emulator access, but for now, Draw Something, Defender, and Osmos are my main entertainments when I have downtime. GTA III, Shadowgun, Order and Chaos, and a few others held my visual attention for awhile, but time is money, and gaming don't make money, if you know what I mean. Still, Note >> PSP/DS3/Vita for me...
Out and about:
GPS is smooth, Local is useful, Maps has more utility than at first glance.
Honorable mentions:

I am planning on getting an iPad2. I want GarageBand and the many other iOS music production apps badly. This includes the ecosystem:
-- iRig to hook the guitar directly for FX and recording
-- Alesis or Behringer MIDI all-in-one connector for my synths
-- access to iOS ecosystem
The maturity, MIDI access, and no-latency issues of iOS trumps Android. And for around $350, why would I be blind to opening so many avenues?
Note isn't all, but it is sure damn close.
Besides, I still need an underwater videocamera for recording those reef dives, yes?

Couldn´t have written it any better myself,about the same here,maybe a few things extra what I do....printing(PrinterShare),I like to print a few photos now and then or print a few important e-mails without putting the pc on,with the PrinterShare app and a printer with WiFi...perfect.I also stream a lot to my Samsung TV, thats when the iMedia app comes in,for me also perfect.I agree to 98% that the Note is an all-in-one device,the missing 2% will be found sometime for something else.
Comparing the ipad 2 with the gnote? In your case maybe apple products is better for you. But if you're really comparing the ipad 2 with the gnote. I think gnote is more useful for majority. I think. You can get a phone and a semi tab at the same time.cpu of gnote is defenetly a lot powerful. Screen resolution on gnote also. The only thing that i think that the ipad 2 has the advantage is that it has bigger screen than gnote(in terms of tablet) and for some its(ios) which for me is ewwww

Oh......the iPad ist "just" a tab. and the Note is a mobile PHONE.....2 different devices so really you can´t compare them.Comparing an iPad with Samsungs Galaxy 10.1 is ok...both tabs.

I bought it for this, and I use my note this way: all in one:
web, gaming, email, tel, social, gps, mp3, dictionary, maps, books, manage files in cloud, taking note, shopping list... : EVERYTHING.
ultimate device, I do not need anything else.
Note is Better than S3
after using galaxy s3 for a month , i m still in love with galaxy note ..its a all in one device for me ..i love it ..i recommend u to wait for note 2 if ur planning to buy one ..but if u want it earlier then go for note ..its perfect .. and after the last update 4.0.4 it has made it faster than ever..

AOKP got this request recently.
Seems a Cornerstone build would be the only way out...which is unlikely.
I'm fully aware this would probably be quite difficult to port, and likely quite time consuming.
Having said that, I also want this. It makes so much more sense on a 7 inch tablet then a 5 inch whatever.
This works with a handful of Google Apps, no other apps. I don't see the point.

Running 2 apps at the same time. Seems like a great idea to me. It supports a limited amount of apps, but unlike Galaxy Note 10.1, you could probably hack in other apps to work.

Yes, but the Galaxy Note 2 supports all apps in multi-window mode...
This would be *nice* to have but I don't know how much easier it would be then to just multitasking between 2 apps now and having the apps full screen. I can see some of the benefits like watching a youtube video while chatting on Google Talk. There are some good alternatives such as popup video players and notepads that overlay on top of current app and typically are resizable and movable.
While it makes sense this would be better on a 7" then a 5"... it really would be best on a 10". 7" barely gives me enough breathing room for 1 app. Plus most of the "compatible apps" are simple things like a calculator and notes
Well it seems VERY useful to me.
It's better than popup apps in my opinion - more app options.
Overscreen browser is a great alternative for now

No, it's not.
This allows multiple apps to run side by side, Overskreen is just the browser. Also, it's not even compatible with Jelly Bean, so no one who owns a Nexus 7 can use it.

No, as I said, handful of specific Google apps. Read up on it. Will the list grow? Maybe? I'd have to guess it is a sdk used to support the function, is it worth app dev time to do it and possibly maintain multiple versions of their app?

I think there a few others that are on the samsung web app store. Samsung sbe adding apps to this.
Now for the bubble burst. The reason they work on the galaxy note is the new QUAD Core cpu and 2 GB Very fast ram .. samsung tried to release a less ram/power version of the 10.1 note with a higer res display. they backed the display down and increased the cpu//ram. this is also to support the WACOM S PEN..
I have been reading alot about the device because mine will be here Monday. So the above if from my reading and research. I can update you more mid next week.. I do not see a need for split windows on a 7 inch screen .. get the overscreen browser and try it.. JUST Does not work for productive work...

Dude. Overskreen DOES NOT work on Jelly Bean. And it is just one app, vs an entire suite of Google Apps.
Also there's no need for window management.
Nexus 7 has a quad-core processor too, just less RAM - which isn't even a problem, it still can handle side by side apps.
And you're telling some weird stuff here. We are talking about Galaxy Note 2, which allows more apps, and works better. AND it works on a 5 inch screen, so it'll be awesome on a seven inch.
So yeah, please don't come back with your 'research' to tell us that you think that this feature is unnecessary.
i hope sincerely as a dev can make a mod for port this feature in future beacause it's very usefull even if work only with google apps it's better ,

While i would love to have or port this it simply isnt possible, it requires a lot of changing to the frameworks and it would be hard to decompile all of samsungs sources and extract it.

Stock android not, but there are a few roms with cornerstone, i think mainly on 10 inch tablets.
Web os did this kinda on a dual core wish android would absorb that multitasking feature right now running multiple apps kinda is a hit and miss

You don't need to do any of that. Just enjoy your tablet.
The stock ROM is great, the stock launcher is great. Look for the best reviews in the store.
I would start with ShadowGun Deadzone to see how great multiplayer gaming is on the N7.

1. This is completely relative. My favorite or most used apps could be your least favorite and never used apps. Your best bet is to wander around in the Play Store and just experiment.
2. Nova and Apex aren't themes, they're launchers. They offer more customization options than the stock launcher. You can also theme with them, yes. Again, there is no such thing as "best" - there is only preference. I personally prefer Nova Launcher Prime.
3. It depends on what you are after. If tons of customization is your thing, then yes, go with a custom ROM, such as Paranoid Android. If no, you are just a casual user, the stock ROM does a superb job.
4. Depends on the person. I read articles on it, books, some games, Skype, etc.
5. Asus Supernote.
6. XDA, Google Play Store.
7. I personally just use Chrome.

For backing up I recommend Carbon. As it works with or without root. If you're rooted you can use Titanium Backup but I've found it to be way more than I needed.
For browsing I use the default chrome. If I need flash I use firefox. You have to make sure you have flash installed seperately. See here for instructions. This works without root.

Some people recommend a custom kernel for better performance and battery lfie. Personally I have been very satisfied with a stock kernel and rom. I have rooted mine but I only use it to reset my bluetooth configuration because a gamepad I have sometimes doesn't pair properly. Somewhere on here there is a comparison of custom kernels if you want to check it out. I've forgotten where it is though.

I agree with CrazyPeter...
If as you say, you are a complete novice with regard to Android... for the time being, just forget about ROMs, BOOTLOADERs and ROOT. All that will come much later.
Just enjoy your tablet as Google intended... there's a whole plethora of interesting stuff on PlayStore to be played with first.

Here are some of my 'core' apps, which I have installed on all my Android boxes (and would consider to be incomplete without).
QuickPic, CatchNotes (In which I'm typing this), Dual File Manager, Temple Run 2, IMDB, Apex, Opera Mobile (although the new WebKit version, Opera Browser Beta is shaping up to be a great browser).
When I got my first Android device in 2010, I spent six months just playing around with stuff available on PlayStore... (read the reviews and recommendations).
This was well before I even considered rooting and flashing custom ROMs.
I would recommend you do something similar, just to gain the experience of using Android... and read, read and MORE read, everything you can.
XDA is a veritable Aladdin's Cave of Android knowledge. Avail yourself of it.

Definitely install multirom, it will allow u to multiboot different roms so u can test them out before deciding on one (or keeping them all). I personally multiboot a cm10.1 (android 4.2), paranoid android (4.1), and ubuntu (a desktop os). The reason for the 4.1 rom is coz its faster and less buggy than 4.2 , and "directory bind" app actually works - letting me run 16gb worth of android game files from a usb...awesome right?
Install flash player. google it to find the apk
use naked browser for flash.. Fastest and lightweight browser... great for flash

As what CrazyPeter said, just enjoy your tab and get all the juice you can from it. Everything will just fall into place if you want to experiment a little bit. I myself have not yet rooted or flashed custom ROMS but I'd probably will (to maximize my gaming experience). N7 is really doing well in gaming (Tegra 3 is a beast). I suggest, if you play a lot of games, go get an OTG cable and a PS3 controller or a controller built for Android (MOGA is really nice). These controller matches well with games like Shadowgun Deadzone and some pretty good console emulators (NES emu).
If you read a lot, there's a lot of really good readers (Adobe Reader, Kindle Fire) in the Play Store. Perfect Viewer is awesome for comics

Awww yeah, I've wanted to find one of these threads forever. Despite joining the forum in 2010, I only really started using my account when I got a Nexus 7 last Christmas, so I'm still a bit new myself. However, I think I have a somewhat impressive mass of some of the best apps/options available to a N7 power user. Especially what's been posted so far, no offense. Sure, usage is mostly personal preference, but comparing apps to find the best is what's most fun about a competitive apps market. Also, there's no reason to think that custom roms/kernels/recoveries will "come with time." You should just do it now and have an awesome tablet asap! It's basically impossible to permanently brick your device, and it's very simple to do this stuff if you just read instructions and threads before asking questions.

I don't use themes because stock is the only really great looking one to me, but there's a Themes List in the Themes and Apps section of the forums.

Roms, Recoveries, and Kernels are all very important when it comes to heavy optimization/customization on your device, and it's all very safe and easy on Nexus devices in particular, imo. They heavily impact functionality, speed, and appearance. Basically the Rom is what your operating system is, Recoveries are custom bootloaders that you can flash/backup/wipe/whatever with, and Kernels are like the backbone your Roms run off of.
I've tried a good few of the most popular roms/kernels, and there's a good reason they got that popular. TWRP is almost unarguably the best recovery you could get. ParanoidAndroid is outright the most used custom rom because of it's amazing customizable interface. M-Kernel is about the fastest by a margin and the developer is a cool dude. You can find these three (what I use) and a couple other good things in my signature. There's more detailed instructions if you just search around the forum or wikis or something.

I'm just a generally unbusy teenager, so I use mine for browsing the web, videos, reading, navigation, social networking, gaming, GAMING, file management, even working on documents for school. I know the iPad has a good handful of excellent tablet apps that just aren't really on Android, but there's still not much limitation with what you can do versus a laptop. It fits in your back pocket and the battery is god damn excellent.

reddit.com/r/Android is alright, I guess. Most important news surfaces there, and there's the occasional awesome app that recently came out. AndroidPolice is cool. Honestly, I mostly just browse the hell out of this forum and find pretty rad stuff.
7. Best Android browser (flash)
The Android Open Source Project Browser, AOSP Browser for short. It's the stock Android browser for most devices, but for some reason Google decided flashless Chrome would be a better fit, despite being slower and more quirky. The AOSP browser isn't available on any official site, but you can get it Here. Flashing it is easiest, but you can do it with ES File Manager if you wanna feel pro. Also most roms tend to replace Chrome with AOSP or a superior flash-compatible browser, just as a heads up.

Those are actually rather awesome clock widgets, but there's this one that was created by a Google dev called "DashClock" and it's exploded with support and popularity as a suggested replacement to the current bland simple clock. If you search for it in the Play store, it'll show up with loads of optional extensions.
Basically it's like the stock clock, except it allows for extensions and it'll list weather, email, notifications, music, calendar events, alarms, any function you could imagine below it. Apparently a minimal-style list is easier to use than the stupid swiping left and right for additional widgets.

That's what I use daily. Browse trough play store, most of the apps that you know from iDevices are available for android too.

Its called launcher, kind of like desktop replacement on Linux, but not really. Try the both, but only paid versions offer any real advantages over default launcher. I use nova prime.
Minimalistic themes are useless, they are not very productive, IMHO.

No, not really. You will get a hang of it as you browse xda some more, but keep it stock for now, rooting it is worth it though, for example to remove adds.

Emails, web, series and movies on the go, music player through Bluetooth adapter in the living room, news, games...
And navigation, once I get a suitable car mount.
Its also a great eBook reader, I use Mantano app.
I also use it for video monitoring my baby, using IP webcam on my phone and tinycam monitor on nexus7.

Chrome for everyday browsing, Firefox beta does flash I think.
You have to find flash apk yourself though, I never need flash.
Try all popular browsers and decide for yourself. I did, and I stuck to chrome.

I was used to upload them into Dropbox and print them as soon as I got into my office.
Now I just point (for theatrical) my Nexus 4 towards the printer and shazam! I got a copy of my documents

Actually, with regards to embedded videos, it does not seem to work anymore for those that I have in my Pocket articles.
Just a "Couldn't load plug-in" error message.
But other than that, i think the new dialer does mirror my usage style of not keying in numbers all the time, but just that few contacts. nice feature there.
1 - ART. That makes me keep my Nexus 4 and now only waiting for Nexus 6 next year
2 - The new dialer. A think Google got a point here.

Embedded videos work better but the actual YouTube app has gotten worse videos stutter horribly.

- The dialer: It seems a lot less...bland...and I feel like i want to use it more. (Bonus points for the fact it brought up the name of the take-away i've been using for the past few weeks that I never knew the name of)
- The hidden UI when browsing fullscreen content also makes that bit of a difference to me
Dialer is cool. Like the full screen browser too and overall better battery life.
All the new UI related things, and ART as internal thing.

Yes but you're not going to like it. Uninstall Google Search completely from your device, then install the AOSP launcher from CM11 rom, it's the same as Google launcher without the Google Now integration. It doesn't gone an extra row for home screen either, but it does show more apps in the drawer.

Yes the dialer has been my main frustration for a long time, having no t9 support. When it did, the limited display of 3 contacts with only name + number was somewhat dissapointing, especially since htc implemented that feature from day one it seemed.
I do miss the opportunity to switch functions using a swipe though (the dialer pad button is a little hard to press wile on a bicycle ), but overall I think it's a huge improvement, especially with the mentioned bonus point that it identifies numbers from businesses that are not in my contacts!
I like how Google didn't give us transparency on stock /s
I would say the new dialer and music lock screen are my favorites so far
