easy way into Verizon's hidden menu ( updated with flashable zip new instructions ) - Verizon LG G2

I take no credit for this but I figured I'd share it credit goes to @xdabbeb from this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467302 and credit goes to @markfm for the shortcut.
But I do take the credit in packaging it into a flashable zip
First download the hidden menu apk from xdabbeb's thread from above and using root browser or a similar app manually paste it into system/app and set the permissions to rw-r-r
The using root browser create a file and name it hiddenmenu and put this command in the file by typing in the following-
am start -a android.intent.action.Main -n com.lge.hiddenmenu/com.lge.hiddenmenu.HiddenMenu
Hit save them put the file you just created in /system/bin and set the permissions to rwxr-xr-x and save
Then all you have to do is launch terminal emulator and type in the following
su and hit enter
hiddenmenu and hit enter
That's it hidden menu will then launch
Then back in terminal emulator exit out
Here you go I made it even easier with a flashable zip ( please read and follow the instructions)
Just flash the zip
Reboot ( the next step depends on the ROM and kernel some you don't have to do the next step and some you do if you get the error code when trying to enter the hidden menu then do the next step otherwise you're good)
Using root browser or similar app go into system/app and find the hiddenmenu.apk and click on it and click install
In terminal emulator type "su" then type "hiddenmenu" without the quotes of course and you're in
Here's the zip- https://mega.co.nz/#!bpJ0DDbA!pSDJcaHFnXulkGyA2s-cIQldTrLbv-FVspD2RzW97Ts
To get back the knock on feature if you've lost it once your in the hidden menu click on HW Device Test then click on Touch Test and in there near the bottom you'll see Touch Firmware Upgrade click that and then click OK wait about 15 seconds and you're set
please remember to hit thanks if you like my work

Well there are a lot of things you can do with it but in the same sense you can mess your phone up bad if you don't know what your doing the most common use is to update your touch firmware if you happen to lose you knock on feature by flashing a custom kernel

OK cool, im hoping to find something to disable that stupid knock-on feature. Im running C-Rom 7.1 btw
I pasted the .apk into system app and change permissions. But im having trouble with how to create the file in root browser.
When I enter root browser I select "+new" at the bottom. I then select "create file" in which case I input that long command and when I press done I get "Operation Failed"
Am I doing this correctly?

Yes it sounds like you doing right in root browser click create new. Then file then rename the file to hidden menu then close root browser and open the that file with a text editor and input the command and click save then follow the rest of the directions you should be good and by the way there is a way in there to disable the knock feature I don't remember off hand what section it's under but it's there

It's the first option under gestures in settings

When I select new file it asks "Please enter the name"
No matter what I input, I keep getting operation failed. I tried hiddenfile, hidden file, HiddenFile, HiddenFile.apk, new file, newfile, ect

No there isn't, but some aosp Roms can disable knock on. For instance vanir has the option under settings-display and lights-knock on/off.
Worth a try but I know I've seen it in others as well, but I haven't ran c-rom in a while

Swype on Gtablet

First of all, make a backup!! I am not responsible for the terrible things that can happen to an android device when things go awry lol....
Secondly, I have only tried this using Vegan rom (beta 4, and beta 5.1)... I am assuming it will work with any alternate rom but NO PROMISES!!
TO OBTAIN THE NEEDED FILES:
1) Do a google search for "swype on gtablet (kinda)"
2) Somewhere the search results (it was the very first one when I did the search), you should see a post on the tegratab.com forum entitled "swype on gtablet (kinda)" (posted by rothnic)
3) Download the package on that forum, and extract it. There should be three files located in this package: swype.apk, libswypecore.so, and build.prop.
**Keep the page open as we are also going to use the top of the build.prop file that rothnic posted there!! THANK YOU ROTHNIC!!!!!
INSTALL METHOD USING ROOT EXPLORER
I would complete these steps entirely from your gtab, as it does away with the need to transfer files from a pc, etc!
1) Using root explorer, copy first the swype.apk file, and paste it to \\system\app. Once it is copied, long press on it and click "permissions". The permissions should be set as follows:
Read: Check all three boxes down (for user, group, and others).
Write: Check the first box (for user)
Execute: Check the first box (for user)
2) Now again using root explorer, copy the libSwypeCore.so file, and paste it to \\system\lib. Make sure you mount the \\system\lib folder as "read/write" before copying. Once it is copied, set the permissions exactly as you did for the swype.apk file. Make sure you mount the \\system\lib folder as "read only" again before you exit.
3) Now its time to edit the build.prop file, only we are going to make it easy. Instead of going through and editing it, copy the top of the file that rothnic posted on the tegratab site, and replace the top of your build.prop file with what he has there. Don't edit it or anything, just copy it word for word. I did this in root explorer by doing the following:
Using Root Explorer, browse to \\system. Once in this folder, mark it as "read/write".
Locate the build.prop file, and long press on it.
Select "open in text editor".
Copy the text that rothnic had in the post on tegratab, and use it to replace the text that already exists there at the top of the file. It will fit exactly as the original one that you are replacing did. DO NOT CHANGE THE BOTTOM OF THE FILE AT ALL!!!
When you have copied the text, press the "settings" button, and press "save and exit".
(FYI, I am using Vegantab beta 5.1, and replacing the top of the build.prop file did not do any damage to the tablet at all)
Now restart the tablet.
When the tablet restarts, long press on any text entry field and press "input method".
Swype should be an option. Select it, and start swyping!!
If swype isn't listed, click settings, language and keyboard. Check the box next to swype.
(this will also be a good time to click on swype settings and DISABLE audio feedback, as it will drive you and everyone around you NUTS!!)
Now follow the steps above to set swype as your input method and enjoy!!
INSTALL METHOD USING TERMINAL (Courtesy of Terrypchan)
This can be done without root explorer, BUT you have to be willing to type commands in a terminal emulator. I did it without root explorer by using the terminal emulator app with the VEGAn b5 rom (which is already rooted). The only tricky command you need to do is:
1. su
2. cd /
3. mount -w -o remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Step 3 is how you mount /system as read-write. That allows you to copy the apk to /system/app and to copy the lib to /system/lib. You can also copy build.prop to /system here. I also did the chmod commands here as well, i.e.
chmod 644 /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
chmod 644 /system/app/Swype.apk
I had already edited the build.prop on another machine where I could use a real text editor.
This is the command to remount /system as read-only:
mount -r -o remount /dev/block/blockmtd3 /system
reboot and I'm Swype-ing away.
any chance you could paste the build prop edit in here? For some reason my browser is cutting off part of it.
Thanx,
I bet the mod deletes this within the hour!
Hmm, wonder how long this post will last
Agreed... I respect the effort tho and his directions are perfect!
Thanks brotha...

Instructions worked perfectly for me with the small substitution of adb push/pull to edit the build.prop (root explorer force closed after I had edited the file and before saving so I said screw it ). Thanks!
Combine this with the rainex fix for screen smoothness and it makes for a pretty good time lol

You don't have to adb it, that's why he recommended root explorer. If you edit it there it automatically makes a backup for you. I've done this with three ROMs, vegan4, zpad3, and vegan5... Never had to use adb

Any downside to editing the build file in this manner?
Can you change it back after it is installed?
Do you have to redo this every time you go to update your rom?

Yes this would need to be redone for each rom.

Wow. I can't believe this is still here! Anyway, on to my question...
Is it possible/advised to edit the build.prop on a PC using a standard text editor like notepad? I ask because the browsers on my GTab don't show the whole of the text we're supposed to copy from tegratab.
Thanks in advance.
Editing on a pc is probably fine, however you have to make sure the formatting stays correct, otherwise it all goes south lol.
I printed out a copy of the top of the build.prop that rothnic posted on the tegratab site and used that for reference when editing on my tab....made it easier to see where I was in the text editor

Thanks a lot for this :highfive:
Confirmed works on KF 8.9, thanks OP! I renamed to dtcp_apk.ads
finally, those horrific ad screens are gone! thank you sir!
if you have adb available, you should be able to do this without a root explorer.
use one of the following codes:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
mv /system/app/dtcp_apk.apk /system/app/dtcp_apk.apk.bak
exit
exit
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
chmod 000 /system/app/dtcp_apk.apk
exit
exit
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
rm /system/app/dtcp_apk.apk
exit
exit
The first one will rename it. The second one will clear its permissions. The third one will remove it completely.
It should go without saying, but its not my fault if you screw something up, or if it is necessary to have this apk in your system, and you use the third method. I haven't tried it, but it should work. I do know what the commands do.
Didn't also work for me with es file explorer the first time i've tried it, although i've enabled all root options.
Rebooting the device helped me, but it's also important to make sure that you give the explorer the permission to change system data

How do I remove volume to wake?

As thread goes..
I'm gonna install this hold for next song on volume so think I need to remove this. How do I remove it?:silly:
which kernel? either way, you'll need a root file explorer. Then go to /system/etc/init.d/ and there should be a file in there with the name 'vol' in it. Open file. The contents should be:
Code:
echo 1 > /sys/keyboard/vol_wakeup
chmod 444 /sys/keyboard/vol_wakeup
Just put a hash symbol at the beginning of both lines, save and reboot.

I found the vol and made the changes to the file with the root explorer app
even though I saved the file with the hash symbol with and without space infront of the lines it didn't work

hmmm
did you reboot? you need to reboot. if yes, then.....
.... with root explorer, change permissions to that file. you need to make it not-executable. just long hold file, and select permissions. untick the 3 boxes for 'execute'. reboot. this should work. last resort, delete the file, reboot.

Yes ofcourse.
Followed your other suggestions. Changing permissions unticking all excecutables, saving, then rebooting, after reboot the files permissions for excecutable were granted..creepy so I deleted it.. After reboot again after this the file was gone.. But the wake with volume started working again , what the hell is going on
I double checked, the file is gone in the init.d folder!
edit: Wait, it doesn't wake if I leave phone alone for a while, but if I wake it and then let screen go out then immediately press volume buttons it wakes.
hmm. interesting. well, let's see if volume wake is still enabled. connect to device via adb and do this:
Code:
cat /sys/keyboard/vol_wakeup
the file should either not exist or running that command will return a 0 or 1. 0 disable, 1 enabled.

Strange I can't switch songs with tweakbox.. Thanks anyways for your help m8!
edit: Seems the settings were integrated in rom/kernel or something deeper since I could still activate screen with fastpress on volume buttons... Upgraded to 12.3 now so now it don't activate neither in slow or fast press on volume buttons.
Changing songs with toolbox in xposed still don't work though hmm.

I can't figure this out for the life of me.
You need to copy the build.prop out to your SD card, edit with a proper editor, copy it back into place replacing the current file, and then change permissions to 755 I believe. I suggest keeping an unmodified version of the build prop on your SD card also
---------- Post added at 09:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:31 AM ----------
This thread should help a bit. I know its for the g3 but same premise. the permissions appear to be 644 not 755.

[Guide] Enable EMUI fingerprint navigation gestures on Huawei P10 Lite

You must have root access on your device
I've used this feature in the custom ROM MorfuZ V4.0 with also the Navigation Gestures of XDA. great combo.
Now I'm on the stock ROM , and, since hidding the navbar cause a problem on the bottom of the lockscreen I've found this a good method to bypass the problem and keep again the fingerprint navigation.
Simply add to build.prop this two lines:
ro.config.hw_front_fp_navi=true
ro.config.hw_front_fp_trikey=1
Save and reboot
After navigate to settings > navigation key and select the top to enable the gestures.
Tested and working on WAS-LX1A running EMUI 8
Step by step:
1) Download and install root explorer on your phone.
2) Open the application and grant the root permissions.
3) Now, simply open go to /System/ and then you will be able to see Build.Prop file
4) Now, click on the option called as Mount R/O.
5) Long press on that files and you will get a pop-up of open with
6) Just hit open with text editor and then you are good to go
7) Copy the codes above and simply paste on your build.Prop
8) Click on the save changes and then reboot your Android device.

The two link inside the spoiler.
I'd like to experiment. You can explain where the build-prop folder is and how I can add the lines. Thanks and sorry but I do not understand much of these modifications.
