[Q] Xperia SP performance phone - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys i am new here and i need help in choosing a phone
i previously owned Sony Xperia SP (C5303)
Everything stock
i got the latest firmware version and i lost the damn phone
i was happy with the specs and all with the latest firmware, without lags
it was not rooted
i only played subway surfer, temple run 2, asphalt 8, stickman basketball
games kind a lame or might be a bit gay for you guys but i just only enjoy simple games
now i am planning to buy a new phone that would have atleast same performace
if would have better performance much appreciated
i have two phones in mind.
one would be Asus phone Zenfone 5
with specs
ASUS ZenFone 5 specs:
5-inch IPS display, 1280 x 720 @294ppi

but i am not sure which GPU or Chipset is better
factors
*display
*speed
*multi-tasking
i can consume 3gb of space for music so storage will not be a factor
i dont take pictures so much and when i do i erase them immediately after i upload them

I don't think there is a section on xda for these phones (MTK/Intel= no source code= no development= no xda forum)

if only it would be available in our country i would buy that phone since it was debated before against XSP
almost same specs but no memory expansion
btw do you have any thoughts about MALI 450 mp vs SGX544?

How do you expect XSP users to know what phones have same performance..?

My previous phone was Motorola Razr I..it had an intel CPU..since It was running stock-pure android it didn't lag..but not all apps are compartible with intel SoCs because it's architecture is x86... 98% percent of apps would work with intel and others will have bugs
Now, I read that MediaTek CPUs aren't good but I have never tested a phone with that cpu
If I were you and I was about to choose one of those 2 phones, I would pick the Asus just because it will get android 4.4

Okay.... I Suppose Its Cool As I Didn't Mention To Be Realistic
Thing Is... Your Phone Will Burn The F*** Down With 4x 2.5GHz Cores
You Could Make It An 8 Core @ 1.2GHz/1.4GHz To Preserve The Battery
And The PPI Looks A Bit Dodgy. But They Are Great Specs Nonetheless

Infinite isn't a value bro. You can't say that you have INFINITE storage space. That's impossible in every way and breaks the rules of the universe and insanity. It would be better off having 99999999999 rater than infinite.

[Q] Xperia SP Or Galaxy s4 mini?

Which one will be best? I want to buy one, but i'm in confuse about which one will be best. I saw that s4mini battery capacity is not so good, but configurations are awesome, SP also awesome. But still in confuse. Anyone there to suggest me please?
Screen size should dictate. If you want a bigger screen go for the sp if not the s4m is a tidy phone.
Sent from my C5303 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
if you like touchwiz ui go for the s4 mini otherwise having it is like hell becuz of the confusing software otherwise go for the sp if you want the cool led on the bottom otherwise their both about the same
If you want:
- 768MB of usable RAM
- 5GB of USB/APP Install space (and want to use mods made for other phones to see if they match yours) a.k.a. no one cares about Xperia SP
- Mediocre MHL @ 720p
- Non physical navigation bar keys, but virtual ones that take up space and make every application look squished or weird.
- Non removable battery (if it dies, your phone dies with it)
- Washed out screen colors.
- Non official support of 64GB MicroSD cards.
Then the Xperia Sp is for you. I'm more than annoyed with it. Shoudl've waited for another phone, and the locked bootloader is horrible too.
This is my personal experience, and I've had used previously
- UMI X1 (Mediatek Dual-core with 1GB of RAM)
- Galaxy S2 (best so far, but Samsung's warranty policy in my country sucks)
- Motorola Atrix "4G" (no updates)
- LG Optimus 3D
Good luck.
i would actually recommend the moto g or x
What about Xperia ZR?
+Quad Core CPU
+2GB of RAM
+Better Display than SP one (More contrast and better viewing angles,- not good as an IPS panel-, but still Its fine)*
+Removable Battery
+Waterproof
-VGA Front facing camera
-8GB of Internal Storage
-Some Bugs
*Note: You should check and compare the screen with another ZR, due the screen lottery
- 768MB of usable RAM
4.3 has 860mb
- 5GB of USB/APP Install space (and want to use mods made for other phones to see if they match yours) a.k.a. no one cares about Xperia SP
Samsung has much more bloat in their firmwares. It's the most bloated android firmware. I don't know how the second part of that is related to the first point, but there are tons of mods made for the sp exclusively or 2013 xperia models
- Mediocre MHL @ 720p
S4 mini isn't even 720p. Its 540x960
- Non physical navigation bar keys, but virtual ones that take up space and make every application look squished or weird.
Android doesn't squish applications. Android AOSP is made for the virtual buttons too and Google keeps pushing the virtual buttons through android updates and their nexus devices
- Non removable battery (if it dies, your phone dies with it)
Anyone with a minimum of knowledge in fixing electrical devices can replace the batteries. There's a SP mechanical guide that explains how to replace the battery with pictures and you can buy the battery itself from stellatech
- Washed out screen colors
True
- Non official support of 64GB MicroSD cards.
Probably not true as I've seen 64gb cards on the sp. But I don't know. Well it has support anyway, just "not official"
- Then the Xperia Sp is for you. I'm more than annoyed with it. Shoudl've waited for another phone, and the locked bootloader is horrible too.
I'm pretty happy with it, coming from a mid range Samsung device its 50x better

Think again... Had both S4 mini and now SP, but would go for S4 mini (9195 as it has LTE). The S4 mini is more fluid and smoother with no laggs or screen issues. But can't blame SP, when it works does the job...

SP have better GPU, better battery, better display resolution, better general quality.
S4 Mini have better RAM and better secondary camera
And, FOR ME, Xperia SP is most beautiful, less expensive, best build quality, aluminum frame (non-plastic) and… he is different than most common phones ... it has status, personality, presence, elegance ... is a Sony ....
But, S4 Mini, is a great phone too…

S4 mini has also LTE (9195 version) and TW can be replaced with Google Now or other launcher.
My SP must be faulty...
Experiencing these issues :
screen unresponsive very often
many apps crashes or FC
very laggy UI - apps or keyboard take 10 seconds to work...
Like the SP but if these issues will continue just going back to Samsung or Motorola...

very laggy UI - apps or keyboard take 10 seconds to work...
Like the SP but if these issues will continue just going back to Samsung or Motorola...

[Q] Interesting phone

Hi, I'm leaving my garbage Xperia Sola after 2 years of blood cry because of its horrible SoC, its horrible software and his horrible support. Now I'm very interested in buying this new Moto G 2014. I ha ve some question for people more expert than me.
1) Do you know when it is going to be released in Italy?
2) What are the pros of this phone (other then price)?
3) Which features are a little economic or can create some troubles?
Thank you in advance
1) It's already available.
I'll answer based on reviews...
2) Build quality, screen, camera, battery life, stock android, android l update guaranteed.
3) Speakers are kinda weak, still using Snapdragon 400 and snapdragon 410 is already available.
Thank you for answers.

Do you mean by loudness or by sound quality? In the latter case it wouldn't be a big problem for me.

Snap 400 is a reliable proc, is there some other product with about same price that use Snap 410 for comparison?

It's already available in some european stores, like amazon.
I mean by sound quality, is poor, but i didn't test it myself.
Snap 400 uses A7 cores which makes it very slow compared to other SOCs, it's fast enough for now, but in the future i'm not sure. Snap 410 already uses new A53 cores which are a lot faster, efficient and supports 64-bit. The HTC Desire 510 comes with 410.

I doubt that after Project Svelte in KitKat, they'd go back to a more cpu intensive way of operating. Android L having more animations, imo, will still be perfectly okay to run on a Snap 400, + ART Optimizations will also help. However, we can only wait and see :silly:

I hope soo... They said i'll be easier on cpu and ram with ART, that's why i ordered this phone, i didn't spent an extra 130€ on the nexus 5 because of the battery.
how is the battery life?

Thank you guy. I keep my Sola even if it sucks: this phone is too big and old.

I wouldn't say it's old, but they could have updated the SoC...

I know, that came from me. I think that for now we have to wait the Android L generation to know which phone is old and which is not; and usually my phones' life is of 2yrs or more, so I have to avoid to buy a phone and maybe 6 months later 1GB of ram become a ridiculous amount. I bought in 2011 a 512MB RAM phone, and now i have lots of troubles with it.
Let's see the price of Z1C at Christmas, when z3C will be already released.
I'm looking for a device to test android. I'm an iPhone user but always wanted to try the android world.
The other phones (htc m8, galaxy S5, xperia Z2) are too expensive in my country (damn taxes) and the low range devices are too underpowered and don't have a SD expansion (important to me).
I want a mid range phone to taste and if I decide to move to android I'll wait the Android L generation phones.
I don't play any games besides angry birds and boom beach. I do listen a lot of music (car Bluetooth) and GPS navigation (waze)
Maybe is the Moto G a good cost-benefit device?
I got mine yesterday. Performs just as well if not slightly faster than my NEXUS 4 (in terms of responsiveness). Limited memory can be a problem if you run multiple (memory intensive) apps simultaneously. When I run facebook app and chrome, it'll sometimes kick FB off memory, but it takes 2 sec to reload so not a big deal for me. Speakers are decent IMO. They are loud and distort at high volume, but knocking the volume down 2-3 steps help. Screen quality is very good and the gamut is similar to TV standard (~72% NTSC from what I can tell). The only quibble I found is stiffness of the buttons.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
PS: I prefer SP 400 cos A7 is still more efficient than Cortex-A53. Also, ART should boost performance even further. I only wish the new Moto had 1.5 GB of RAM instead of 1.

Why are you comparing a 179$ phone with a 400$ phone? I don't understand why a lot of people compare a less than 200$ phone with a 400$ phone.
You should compare the new Moto X with Xperia Z1C, then it would be a fair comparison.

Moto x4 or Moto Z?

I have the 3/32gb version of the x4. I have the option to get a brand new Moto Z with 4/64gb which as you know is also AMOLED screen and Snapdragon 820 processor with adreno 530. However it's a single camera. Should I do this?

The problem of Moto Z in my opinion is not having IP68 protection and the fingerprint sensor is that poor square with no gesture support. Otherwise it's a great gadget, I heard this Phone got a great price on Gearbest now.
64 GB vs 32 GB, new battery...
So I got to own both. Sticking with the x4.
On paper the Z sounds better. But the processor slows down significantly when using multiple apps. I would even compare it to the new gen of Snapdragon 4xx series. The 64gb doesn't mean much because a large chunk is taken up by the software. The ram is an extra GB at 4 vs. the 3 on the x4, however running all the same apps, the x4 had much ram left open for use than the Z did. Ram management was terrible. Other than that, the camera was the worst in low light I've seen in a long time and bad in general. The battery was the worst and it also gets really hot really fast. Lack of fingerprint sensor gestures. The screen was very nice and vibrant but the x4 screen was also very good, just not quite as good but the no reason for me to keep the Z over the other cons. I wanted to get in detail with my experience because I got to use both extensively and there is no real world comparison anywhere on the internet other than the spec sheet which sounds good in favor of the Z, but it's definitely not in real life. Even the quadrant scores were way higher on the Z, but actually the phone felt useless with a few apps open.
