Where are icons located? - Verizon LG G2

Does anyone know the directory/folder where the "app drawer" icon is located? I plan to modify/change the icon to match the rest of my icons and theme. I dont want to use a launcher I just would like to locate the file so that if possible, I can change it manually.

Oh, bro, if you can figure that out, you have to let me know! I've been searching up and down for a way to change that bastard. I haven't found it either. It's like LG buried it in the deepest, darkest file it could find just to mess with us...

Yeah, I know, it seems like they really didn't want that app drawer icon messed with. But now that I think about it , I may be completely wrong. It may not even be an icon at all but maybe something more like a widget.

That's an interesting thought right there. Didn't consider that. If that's the case would it be changeable?

As far as im concerned everything is "changable" on the phone, its just a matter of how far your willing to go to change it. One way or another I will get all my icons to match, including the app drawer icon, and i'll be sure to post how i did it here.

Have you tried this app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jy.iconchanger.ad I think it may work for icons one by one, I think I've read about people using it for the app drawer icon. For applying icon packs system wide, the Xposed module Unicon is great for that. Especially the beta version, it has the ability to use icons from multiple packs using the custom icon assignment feature. Theming the app drawer icon is also a plan for the future, just currently not available.

I use Unicon and it does theme the icons, works great actually.
I haven't tried the posted app though.
I'll look for the beta version of Unicon, could see the fun in changing icons using different packs.

@njstein Here's a link to the community. http://goo.gl/RA3LkC Make sure to uninstall the current version before using the beta. New package name. Eventually the current Unicon app is going to just become a pro key.

Thanks for the info, I like the app. I just flashed a new ROM so I'll be making use of it here soon. And theming the app drawer icon would be a great addition to the xposed module. Right now to get the look I want (all icons being same shape and size) I have to switch between themes that use either a round appdrawer icon or a square one. And then have to have all round icons or all square icons otherwise the appdrawer icon sticks out like a sore thumb. But the app you referred helps to find matching icons, thank you. I'll check out the xposed module too, probably tomorrow.

I'm thinking now that the app drawer icon is actually part of the theme more so then an actual icon. Could be wrong but would explain why there is no actual icon anywhere.

I'd think the themes for the LG launcher work similar to Nova launcher themes. Skinning images in the LG launchers res folder. If you browse through the LG launcher apk you should see a res folder, with other folders inside. Somewhere there would be a app drawer icon. Usually to replace that, you have to use something like apk tool to decompile the launcher apk, change the launcher icon to whatever you want and recompile and install the apk, or go through the same method with a launcher theme. Decompiling it and so on. Which might be a little easier. I've never browsed through the LG launcher, but that's how it works on other launchers usually. The icon changer app would be a far easier approach if it actually works. But I'm not 100% sure it will since I haven't actually tried it.

That information is very much appreciated. That is exactly the info I've been looking for. I just came over to android from iOS so I'm still getting familiar with everything. I run Linux on my PC though so I'm picking it up quick. Anyways thanks again for the info.

Icons are not stored in the system. They are pulled from the apk files and then listed in the app drawer. This is all done via the XML and java files in the system.apk and then the application.apk. There isnt a way to just swap out a icon unless you use a modding app or you decompile the apk and rebuild with a new icon. If you want a perm way of change the icon, you can pull the apk from your phone and then open it with 7zip, and then just replace the icons in the /res.drawable-* folder. Other then that you need a modding app

The app drawer icon was the only icon I was having trouble figuring out how to customize. I really appreciate the information you provided already but do you happen to have information pertaining to the app drawer icon itself?

Hello all,
As a new user I'm apparently not allowed to post links at all until I'm verified. So that means you'll have to a little leg work to find some things if you're interested.
This is my customized phone. I used the same background in my blog; The icons I made in a roundabout way—Bobbyperux over at Deviantart, made a pretty all inclusive tutorial on how to make them. It even had a video. You'll need to know something about Photoshop and have a tiny bit of patience. I changed the font to futura and the color to white. Except for the android market, ha. Little color never hurt anyone. The phone is rooted, non-market apps are enabled, and I can sync to my itunes with ease. Mac user.
Anywho give it a whirl--the icon pack is called up to date icons.
Id like to change my icon set too. Do you have to be using launcherpro or can u change them on the stock TW?
Thx.

The news widget is called buzz box-- its pretty nifty. You can choose from a ton of sources within the actual widget and it updates the news all day. I don't know how it effects battery life, but my captivate seems to be dealing with it just fine.

[Q] Metamorph custom icon theme on MIUI rom?

I've been searching around and have only found one guide on creating a custom icon metamorph theme, it doesn't seem too bad. Thy only problem is it only said you can only morph app icons in system/app so since those are only rom apps, is there a way to change the icons on downloaded apps? I'm not sure where they are located but can you just move the apk and odex files for the downloaded apps to system/app and be able to morph them?
I'm using the MIUI rom but hate the way it puts the purple rounded box around icons, I'd like to be able to change the icon to a larger size that fills up the entire box.
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance

Thanks for linking us to the pack - now we can all use it
P.S., There should be a new rule in xda. If you post an awesome homescreen or say you found an enormous theme pack, you must link to the wallpaper, theme and all widgets - otherwise you are just teasing us.

[Docks] Sense style for LPP, Adw Ex & Go Ex - Multiple colors

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Hello. I was bored today working on a Graphic Design project and decided to take a small break to make some Sense style docks. They should work in Launcher Pro, Adw Ex and Go Launcher Ex.
The zip is not flash-able. Just extract the png files to your sdcard somewhere and select the images like you would normally for custom docks in your launcher.
There is also a blank png file included in the zip, to make the buttons transparent over the dock if needed.
I have tested most of these in Go Launcher Ex, but some may be a little rough around the edges because I haven't tested them all.
If I get more time I will try and make some more.
Thank you..... I been looking everywhere and couldn't find anything like this is it possible to make transparent one? Or a wood one? Or a pearl white one?

No problem. I may eventually add some more later. If I can figure out how to theme the clock I'll add some clock skins. I am not too good with the programming end if things though and it may take some code.

Fancy widget or Beautiful widgets. I think there are templates for the skins on those.

Oh ok. I do not know how to theme apks. I do not know anything about code. I just know enough to change image files in photoshop, etc.

Have you tried setting the icon you want to the black wallpaper that comes in the dock package? Or after setting the transparent icon did you restart your launcher?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
Yea I put a transparent gif icon file in the first zip file I believe. Let me know if that isn't working. Set your dock shortcuts then use it as the custom icon for each so the dock shows through but the app is still there.
I'll see if I can make some more docks soon.

Lol remember the black and white one like those old school photos but yeah man set the shortcut then set the custom icon and that should work...

Heya, Thanks for these dock bars, been looking for something like this for ages!
Not sure if it's still allowed to ask, but is it possible to make them with these icons (left/right, but then proper) as well? -->
Much thanks <3
I have been away for a bit. I'll see what I can come up with.

Manually Changing Icons

So I want to change a few icons. I found the location for the SMS/MMS Icon (ic_launcher_smsmms.png) so i just have to change the name of the icon file that i have to ic_launcher_smsmms.png and then put it in place of the original Icon file. Correct ?
I can't seem to find the one for the video player, there is no ic_launcher_videoplayer.png like i figured there would be. So if someone could help me find the location of that, and the email one and the app drawer launcher icon. I would greatly appreciate it.
So I renamed the icon file that i want to use, to ic_launcher_smsmms.png and tried to move it to the correct directory, but everytime i click paste, it moves it one directory back from the one i want, how do i get it to replace the current png with the new one ?
Where do you find the pngs?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that's not the name of the icon for the sms/mms app. You'll find that icon in the actual mms.apk.
Video Player would be the same thing, you would find the icon for that in the Video Player.apk.
That is where I found that file at. In the .apk. I was told that was the right one. If not then which is?

Just use a Launcher if you're not already and long press the icon and hit replace or whatever the option is and look through your phone for the new icon you got. May, not be what you want but it's a not less of a hassle then what you're doing.
That only changes the icons in your home screen. I want them changed all around. I don't care if its a bigger hassle lol if I cared I wouldn't be asking. So can someone tell me what to do. I am thinking that I can't just change it through the phone can I. I have to dump the files on my computer. Then change the ones I want and the flash it to my phone. Am I correct ?

If i understand correctly, in order to change the icons, you'd have to edit each individual apk. For instance, if you want to change the icon for facebook you have to edit facebook.apk but if there is an update for it, then you have to edit the apk again.
Thats why im looking into making a theme for adw launcher. That way no matter how many times an app is updated, it will display the themed icon. I chose adw since its the launcher that comes with GingerVolt.

so I was right about how to do it. But like you said I would have to re do it everytime the app gets updated. So your idea on making an adw icon pack. Would that change the icons in the app drawer too. Not just the ones in the launcher and on the homescreen?

If you want to customize your app icons. You can download the launcher like Nova, Apex and icon packages. I can't post the links here but you can search. There are tons of threads regardless of this. Cheer

You can't change the icon, and even if you were rooted it would be very difficult. The status bar requires root to do anything with it.
