Pi car radio - Raspberry Pi Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have done a lot of searching and have not found what I am looking for. I am looking to put a raspberry Pi in my car and use it as a media center and FM receiver. I have found how to's on making it a media center in the car but not an FM receiver also. Anyone done this? I also want to incorperate some kid of maps for navigation. I want this to be stand alone without my existing radio. I kind of a noob at the pi. I have been using one as an xbmc box in my living room for some time but thats really all.

I have come across this in case anyone else is interested in the same.

Kaiser as a bluetooth keyboard ?

Hi All,
Been having a search around, but haven't found anything like this yet. Has anyone seen or know of an app/util that would allow me to use the Kaiser as a bluetooth keyboard for another device (for example, PS3) ?.
Just was thinking about this last night, could be a useful little toy in certain situations ?
Any ideas/pointers ?
Thanks,
M3t.
Well ...
There's another thread in KAISER ACCESSORIES which links to the $29 bluetooth keyboard being sold on Amazon (down from $149 from iGo which the thread starter spent instead).
Since the Tilt keyboard leaves a lot to be desired, perhaps spending this $29 would be more to your liking.

Not seen anything like that around, as jdmba says, for the amount of work required to produce an app for it, it would really be of no benefit apart from as you say, a 'Party Piece'
Only thing close I have seen is Rudeo's app that turns your phone into a remote for Windows Media Center/Player. Great in a hotel room when your Media Laptop is connected to the TV.
Soz, hope you have luck.
it require the bluetooth stack supporting that bluetooth profile
and ms bluetooth stack is not that fancy i fear

transmitter program for kaiser

Hi all:
recently at work one of my collegues was showing me a program in his phone (sprint's muzak..not sure about spelling, by samsung) called "Trasmitter". This program allows him to "transmit" music/mp3 files from his cell phone to a FM radio station of his choice in his car thus enabling him to listen the music through car speakers.
A week agao i had read here about a way to transmit music to car speakers using motorala equipment using bluetooth however that piece of equipment is 99 $ and this program is probably alot cheaper.
Does anyone know if a program like this exists or can be created for Kaiser/tilt/tytnII?
...p.s. conversation started by us comparing phones, which i couldn't believe he was trying to compare his 50$ phone to my 600 tilt, but he got me when he showed me that program .. something my tilt can't do :-(
any suggestions/answers/comments appreciated.
u're probably referring to the muziq, by LG. its not all just software based, it has a built fm transmitter. if you want that function for your device, then you need to buy an fm transmitter.
Yeah that is not a software issue...the kaiser does not have a built in fm transmitter, so you will need to buy a 3rd party piece of hardware in order to accomplish this. Try googling or looking on eBay...alternatively several manufactures are making bluetooth compatible in dash stereos that will work with the built-in bluetooth compatibilities of the kaiser.
thanks
thanks guys 4 replying so promptly. i'll search around to see if there is any cheaper bluetooth equipment than motorola. i'll let u guys know if i find anything.
The cheapest way is as ajmoncrief said: get an RF modulator, they're like $15 at Radio Shack, and a $5 USB to headphone adapter to connect the RF modulator to the phone. Works like a champ. You could also go ghetto-style and, instead of the RF modulator, use one of those cassette-looking things with the wire that us old folk used to hook our diskman up to the stereo, that'll work just as well and is a bit cheaper.

Bluetooth media button not detecting

Hey all just a query, new to the forums so apologies if this isn't the correct area for this post.
So I'm running the SYGAV 10.2" Android headunit running lollipop in my car and my car doesn't have steering wheel controls to begin with, so I had an idea to buy one of the Bluetooth satechi media buttons (the eBay version lol) the idea was that all I would have to do is Bluetooth this to my headunit and stick to to my steering wheel no dramas, however for some reason my headunit can't seem to even find it while both are searching for Bluetooth devices. My phone is able to detect it so I know it's not the remote that's not working and I've tested it on an iPad as well and the controller has worked on both devices. Anyone know why it won't connect and/or does anyone have any ideas? The headunit isn't rooted either and I'm not really planning on it so that's out of the picture.
Cheers.

Head Unit for a classic car

Hi guys, I am new to programming and classic cars. I recently have the chance to buy a 80 model toyota and decided to make a head unit with my old samsung S3. I won't use it to control music or make calls. I just want head unit to show temperature, compass, fuel level etc. By the way, car does not have OBD or ECU, most of the reading would be analogue or through new sensors. Is it possible to attach new sensors to my old phone and read results on the screen? I believe this can be done using a raspberry pi but I am on a tight budget and if I can use what I have at hand for this project it would be really great. I add a sample image of what I have in mind to build. I want it to look genuine and proper for a classic car. Any help is greatly appreciated and I can even offer a test drive with my old beauty if you happen to swing by my vicinity
buy a Bluetooth odb2 adaptor and use the torque pro app.
I simply do not have anything to connect to OBD all the readings regarding the car are old fashion analogue. there is no central command or control.
yeah I forgot about the "classic" part. My bad. Torque will still let you use your phone sensors, so gps speedometer, and gyro based drag timer and hp estimate, but I dont know of anything else you would be able to use. Not that something doesn't exist, I just dont know what it would be.
thank you man I guess I will use the app and look for temperature on my phone.
When did 1980 start being classic, I was thinking pre-70 at least. Which model do you have? I'm trying to remember if the standard DIN size was being used then - I know it was on my mid-70s VW, but that was German, which is where the DIN came from in the first place. Dropping in a 1-DIN android head unit might be easier that rigging up something with your phone.

Raspberry PI Auto. Ford Focus 2015 SE.

I have a useless 4.2 inch screen in my car. Sorry not sure where to post this. It is the remnant of the horribly terrible SYNC system . All it does now is use the back up camera, which I have a new one connected to my Sony AAV-6000. I have had a few ideas on this screen but the top idea is a Raspberry PI. I know I can buy a touchscreen at 4.2" and what I was wondering was how do I either, Make a weather center, or a bouncing EQ that responds to the music playing in the car? Other ideas are very welcome. Do not need two backup cameras and sense the 4.2" is available I want to convert it to a Raspberry PI. The former is the best I can do for ideas, unless someone comes up with a better idea. I just don't want to cut the wires and throw it in there, one because I cannot find the wiring diagram for it and two not sure how to program it. I am a web developer and am fluent in Javascript but that has nothing to do with what I am trying to do but I am sure I can figure out any code. Regardless any ideas or do what I want to do help would be appreciated.
