[Q] Galaxy S3 Mini Help - Youtube and Netflix not working after root - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a S3 Mini I8190 international model, which I recently rooted and installed CWM and Cyanogenmod version 11-20140520-Unofficial-golden. It also updated my phone to Kitkat 4.2.2 during the process. My kernel version is [email protected] #1.
Everything works on my phone except for the following issues:
Youtube will play ads once in a while, but when the video tries to start I get the error 'There was a problem while playing. Touch to retry.'
I was able to install another app, FREEdi Youtube Player. It will play videos fine, but I want the official Youtube app to work correctly. All of the other Google apps, such as Maps, Books, Drive, Gmail, and Google+ seem to work without issue.
Netflix does not work. The app will open and let me browse the movies and add items to my list. It will not play any videos, and gives me the error 'Playback could not be started. If the problem persists, please restart your device and try again. (1018).' It does not help to restart the device.
My Play Store will allow me to download and install apps with no issue. The problem is that the icons for the apps seem to have been corrupted.
More information - The first time that I rooted the device and installed the files shown on the instructions page, I installed both Google Apps files* in the order shown on the page. It was not clear on which one to install so I did both. All of the errors I described happened then. I tried to do it again with just the stock Google app file, and my keyboard would not work. I couldn't get past the setup screen after installation. I tried it with just the full Google app file, and all of these errors happened with that too. Currently, the phone has both app files installed in the order that was listed on the instructions.
I would really like to keep kitkat 4.2.2, but if it is not possible, I will just unroot my phone and put everything back to stock settings and ROMs.
If you need any more information, please let me know.
*It seems I cannot post links yet. I can pm the link if possible. The first app was listed as Google Apps (Full) and the second was listed as Google Apps (Stock).

[Q] Installing ONLY Google Play (or replacing)

Hi there.
I recentely re-flashed a CM7.2 official.
I want to get the cleanest device. I don't want any crap on. NO CRAP policy!
So, I wanted to roll without Google apps. No Google Play, no Gmail, no nothing.
Using the email.apk for mails, Opera as a browser, and only games and performance tool.
It works cool and extremely fast.
Only one issue:
Opera can't download new apps from Google Play (play.google.com).
Does anybody knows how can I download ONLY google play? Or some way to download apps from the store without downloading the full google apps?

Download the gapps package (but don't even put it in sdcard), open with a archive manager (WinRAR, WinZIP, 7zip etc) and extract Market.apk or similar (only the market), put that .APK in sdcard and install it from the phone (or you can download lastest market searching in the forums, but Market included in gapps for GB works fine anyway).
If you want to update (remember, the version you have installed is Android Market, not Google Play), just search market-updater.apk (or similar) in the package and push it via adb (I don't think it will install directly) to /system/app directory in your phone, and then reboot. Then, open the market and it will prompt to replace the Android Market (or after closing and opening again) for the Google Play store. The Market will not update itself without the market-updater.
Thanks a lot for the quick and informative relpy!
I do have a question though - From past experience, if I disable proccess like google-framework and such that contains the login information, the google play will not function at all. The login is bound to a different application, and I do not want to install these.
Is it possible by any means to download directly through a browser?

I think there is a add-on from Google Chrome that let download APKs directly to your computer, but if you meant to install via other ways in your phone, I really don't know because Opera (and others APK) require Google Play Store installed, and Play Store needs a Google Account to link all apps (free and paid) to your account.
Well obviously I understand I need a google account. What I mean is, I want to be able to log in to Google from my Opera and download apps from play.google.com. Right now it works up to the point of the popping-up download screen to verify my device, than I click download and nothing happens.
Newsflash:
I decided to give up and partially install market like you said. Got a new vendor.apk and installed it, obviously when I ran it just closed saying that I need a to sign in on my google account but since I had no google framework it didn't even offer to let me log in.
Installed google framwork too, now it gives me the sign-in screen and after I enter username/password it simply can't establish connection to the server.
Yes, I have checked and I have both a valid wifi and a 3g connection.
Any suggestions?
Edit:
Got it to work eventually, I hope it will serve my uses right.
Edit2:
I was optimictic too early
Now whenever I try to download anything with the Google Play Store it shuts down unexpectedly and does this until I manually enter the Google App info page and delete additional user data,
Edit:
Got it to work eventually, I hope it will serve my uses right.
Egozy, the way I get rid of the crap is - flash the full gapps and then delete the apps I don't need (Email, browser, gallery3D and what not). BUT, there are apps that you can't delete and are related to the functioning of other apps.
What you can delete from CyanogenMod is covered in CyanogenMod Wiki - Barebones

Nook HD - Google Play Services corrupted, now no conceivable way of installing apps

I was getting an error that told me the device was out of space when it clearly wasn't, so I followed the advice of uninstalling updates for google play services, which has now rendered not only the Play Store but many features(signing in with youtube) completely inoperable.
I've finally managed to root the device but since I have no application for installing apks I've no way of installing it.
I've tried building a flashable zip from a couple of apk(latest google play services apk, astro file manager), and it did not work. Adb will not pick up the device while booted and it returns an error when in CWM. There was another app market app on the Nook store but it refuses to download in my country.
I don't want to do a factory reset. It seems ridiculous that this could happen and defeats the point of locking a device down if I have to do this to restore it.
Does anyone have a zip I could flash that might help?

Not entirely sure of what your doing or trying to do. Uninstalling important updates to an app needed by others is bad advice - there's potentially a situation to do it, but that's definitely not one.
It sounds like your using stock BN rom, so check leapinlar's main threads for stuff related to doing stuff with that - they can be found in the signature of his posts as well. You can always re-flash the stock rom too which I think leapinlar has a guide on that or at least there's a guide around here somewhere.
You can also move on to cyanogenmod as well and flash a matching gapps (that of which your trying to fix are already bundled there) and then can repeatedly break it over and over again if you so wanted.

[Q] Google play and Launcher problems in Rooted KF HD

Hello,
I have a Kindle Fire HD 7” from 2012 using Android 7.5.1. After lots of troubles with the ADB drivers I finally got it rooted. Now I’m ready to do cool stuff! The problem is that most things don’t work.
FYI I hace ES Explorer with Root explorer ON and ROM Toolbox Lite.
I would be grateful if you could help me in these issues:
Issue 1: Google play services has stopped working.
Back in 2012 I installed all the google apks following instructions from one of the threads in the forum. Some time ago I started to get the message “Google play services has stopped working”. That’s when I rooted the kindle.
Once rooted, I uninstalled all, downloaded again all apk and reinstalled with google play services version 7.0.99. Same results. Reading forums, sites, watching videos, I tried many ways. I even created the folder and dummy apks i read about in a thread in this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/kin...google-play-services-7-3-28-stopping-t3086528). Still no results. The services dont’ update, I still have 7.0.99 but still does not work. I suspect it is some issue related to the android version... I don’t know...
Issue 2: Custom Launcher
I’m sick of the lame amazon launcher, I tried to install a custom launcher (downloading the apk from apk downloades site). I install the apk but the open button is greyed and I can’t open it. Also, It does not appear on my app library. I tried with Go Launcher EX, hola Launcher, Nova launcher... All the same. I can see them in the app manager (in Settings) so they are installed. I also read threads about this issue and tried moving the apk from /data/app to system/app but even with root explorer ON and RW permission enabled in /system, ES explorer can’t paste the apk there.
So, even I have the most Ironclad version of android or I am useless ant this. Can anybody help me please?
so i'll try my best to help you out on this.
Issue 1: i believe that for whatever, google play and amazon just don't work well even with root, when i rooted my kindle first time i got the google play store but eventually got the same thing you did the whole "google play services has stopped working". So i had to uninstall all of google play and then reinstall to where i just had the android market(If you don't know the market is it's just like a downgraded google play store) but for whatever reasons, it agrees with amazon more then the actual google play store and doesn't crash any.
In short your solution for issue 1 is either uninstall all of google play and only install what you need to have the android market, or go about using a custom rom, like the official cyanogenmod rom, or the unofficial Omnirom and Candy5 rom, as i've never had any sort of google play store trouble with any of those, excluding candy5 as i'm currently flashing that as i type this to try it out.
Issue 2: So this could be one of 2 things.
First off, after you installed the apks, did you reboot your kindle? Yea it's really simple but if you don't reboot the apks don't intialize which could be why you can't access them in the app library. Secondly, i read somewhere on one of the XDA threads about one of Amazons OTA updates making it difficult to install customs launchers, i had a lot of trouble with go launcher ex which is mainly why i finally decided to just flash a custom rom.
In short your solution for issue 2 is to try installing the apks, and then reboot the kindle, see if that maybe initializes them. Or it could be Amazon just locking down harder on its device, which if it is that, you could probaly find some sort of work around, but you'd probably be better off with a custom rom, although if you're a fan of the kindles stock set up try Kinology.
Hope i've helped!

Certain apps don't work from google play?

Does anyone have any issues with certain apps from the play store that just crash when opened? Apps like IMDB, google Inbox, Google contacts just crash when they are opened. Why is that? I am running the google now launcher with typical root, play store setup etc.
yes I had an issue downloading facebook messenger app.. it crashed.. I downloaded it for Amazon store and it worked perfectly from there.. I am sadly using 5.1.1.. with Play Store installed via adb..
Inbox is a known problem, was mentioned on threads about installing the play store.
Google contacts works on mine though, though maybe I installed it through gapps.

I'm also on 5.1.1., did you side load play with RootJunky's ADB zipfile? Did you ever run into an issue where you could not log into Play Store? I am gettin a problem communicating with Google servers error.. driving me nuts.

Yes I used RootJunky's ADB zipfile.. and no I haven't faced an issue where I can't log into Play Store.. are you sure that you updated the play services? you can do that by installing any google app like youtube and run it and it will tell you to update play services.. and make sure you are running that latest version of Play Store which is 6.0.5 at the time I am posting this comment
Meh

Well thats the problem I am having, I can't update services because that runs through the Play store, and I can't log into the play store so I can't update. I am getting the message about the services being outdated but I can't do anything as it just redirects me to the failed play login. I have no idea what version of Play store this is, its just whatever was pushed via the zip file. I am going to do a factory reset and try again.
For the record, did you do this on 5.1.1. or did you do this on 5.0.1 and then update?

I updated via OTA to 5.1.1 then installed play store via adb.. I suggest that you uninstall all the four apps of google that the zip file installed which are Google Play Services.. Google Services Framework.. Google Accounts.. and Google Play Store.. then install them again via the same adb then reboot.. that's what I did actually.. I hope this will help..
Woooot

Someone in another thread told me to try the Amazon app store version of IMDb if I was using the stock rom. I tried it and it works perfectly. I did have to unistall the Google version before the Amazon one would install. It's worth a try with some of the other apps to see if it works for them too.
I'm running Fireos 5.01
Rooted with google play services installed.
I have removed all the bloat suggested and don't intend to use any amazon apps.
In any case, the two problems i have are slightly strange.
1. I can't seem to install any .apk that doesn't come from google play store (I have Dev options opened an unknown sources checked)
2 I Can't add any widgets to my Home screen, when i try the widgets just disappear.
None of these two problems are show stoppers for me and I have all the removed .apks uploaded to mega in case i find i need any of them.
Has anyone else seen this?

To get widgets to work, I had to make my launcher (Apex) a system app. I tried titanium backup first, but it seemed to have trouble doing it. I finally downloaded an app called /system/app mover from Google play store and it worked. I can add widgets now.
Thanks for the information s14sh3r.
Sorry for the late reply
However I already had Titanium backup installed so i thought i would try to see if i have the same problem with TB as you.. sure i did it hang then locked me out of the launcher a reboot brought it back.
So i headed over to the market and picked up system app mover and run that after installing busybox.
Funny thing was, it was already marked as a system app... errr I guess TB almost made it happen any idea's i do have another launcher available also i have a pro copy of Apex so would i need to make the pro key and the widgets app, a system app.
Update
I got it working by getting "system app mover" to move the app back to where is was, I rebooted then i made it a system app once again,
Rebooted and selected "Apex launcher" and Bingo!
I have access to widgets again
Thanks for your help s14sh3r.

Happy to hear you gt it working. One thing I've noticed is I seem to have to reboot more to get thinhs to work. Considering how cheap the tablet is, I can live with that
I have a problem with Instagram after I installed latest CyanogenMod rom.
From the Play store it's written: " Your device is not compatible with this version" (it's translated from italian, not really sure if it's 100% right ).
Before I rooted my device in order to install Cyano rom,I had the original firmware with Play store installed and Instagram was not only avaiable but worked smoothly.
Any idea of how to fix it?
BTW...I tried to get back to the original firmware following the related tutorial but there's no way to make the device "visible"to the pc via usb through the embedded recovery mode (quite strange because I can flash without problem TWRP recovery using adb tool by cmd line).
So...I'm in trouble even if I want to get back to the original firmware...any help will be (again) really welcome .
Thanks in advance.
Mostly the advice is the same sideload the app if play store won't let it install.
You can use this to go back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/howto-install-fireos-5-1-1-root-gapps-t3265594
If you do go back to 5.0.1 in TWRP by renaming the 5.0.1 bin to end .zip remember to stay offline until you've turned OTA off unless you don't want TWRP any more.
Thanks a lot for your advice...I I'll try it later ?.
Well, finally I fixed it simply downloading the apps in .apk files into the device and installing them directly from it,easier than I thought .
Thanks a lot for helping me.

[Ali] SystemWebView errors and FCs after I messed with Play store in Titanium Backup

Device:
G6 Ali with OPS27.104-15-10 rooted following the instructions here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g6/how-to/guide-twrp-root-magisk-installation-t3816569
The cause of the problem:
I backed up, uninstalled, then reinstalled Play Store and froze Play Services briefly in Titanium backup while trying to install the modded Google Play Store from a certain (apparently banned here) "warez" app, LP. The install never went through. It failed both trying to "update" Play store and when I backed up and removed Play Store with Titanium Backup. After it failed I re-installed my backup of Play Store.
The problem:
Many apps force close upon refresh/first open. Also, certain apps complain because Systemwebview isn't installed even though Google Play says it is. Google Play Store itself appears to be fine and can uninstall/re-install apps without issue.
My attempts so far:
factory reset(both from the settings menu and from TWRP) - This resulted in a fresh install with no ability to sign into Google Play store. I got a black screen instead of a login screen, regardless of whether I did it during initial setup or after. I ended up reverting to a backup I made with only the issues listed above because at least it kind of works.
reflashing OpenGapps
re-installing SystemWebView and affected apps in the Play store
Using Titanium Backup to clear cache and data from Play, Play services, Webview, and any affected apps.
My next move:
I was thinking I might try fastboot flashing the stock firmware, but the one here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g6/development/stock-firmware-moto-g6-t3792292
does not match the build number of my phone and the other stock firmware thread doesn't list a build number at all.
What am I missing here?

Flash stock and never ever use that modded things again, and never mention them again on XDA, any discution of the app you mention is against the XDA rules.
Thank you for that information. I have edited my OP to remove direct mention/link of said warez app, though it still exists in the quoted text from AleSebEri.
Does it matter that the build number in the stock firmware thread I linked is different than mine? Mine is OPS27.104-15-10, the linked one is OPS27.82-72.
------------------------------------------------------Edited to add------------Problem Solved------------------
For anyone reading this in the future facing similar issues, no, it does not matter if the build number is the same. Flashing the factory files from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g6/development/stock-firmware-moto-g6-t3792292
solved my issue. Thank you for your assistance, AleSebEri
