[Video] Verizon On my nexus 5 - Nexus 5 General

Took the sim out of my Verizon s4 and was determined to get this N5 up and running on big red.
I have full lte after a lot of tweaks that I probably shouldn't post right now do to what it could possibly do to a phone.
If you are a Dev and think you can do more with this let me know and I'll get you to where I'm at. I'm just a themer with basic dev knowledge. As you can see there is no signal to text or call. I've had bars a few times but that's it. As you see I'm on L. I had to crop one screen on phone because of upload size restrictions.

Looks interesting so far. I can't recall whether this device supports VZW's frequencies. If not, calls may never work.
I'll assume you modified the APN for VZW. Did you try modifying the radio?
If you post what you did to get data working, other members may have some additional suggestions to get you moving again.

its been gotten to, the lte connecting. but it's the calling ability that cant be done. i dont remember what all really came about, but i do remember thst the calling ability is the real issue. the nexus 5 doesnt have the ability to make phonecalls via lte. if you search the forums here, maybe you can find the thread.

I'm no expert but I don't see why it can't. With some kind of modification to radio or whatever.

Calls won't work for two reasons 1) I don't think Verizon uses VoLTE yet, and 2) calls still use 1x, just like Sprint, and you have to have the MEID (IMEI minus last digit I believe) in Verizon's database. Technically it should work on Page Plus and I think I saw a thread here on how to flash it for PP. I'm kind of surprised Verizon LTE works as most of the bands for Verizon's LTE don't coincide with the N5 IIRC. I could be wrong about that though. Also it's probably like any other GSM carrier, once you activate the SIM card in a carrier based phone, you can stick it in another phone and it should just activate. The only reason you have to change IMEIs is for the EVDO/1x backwards compatibility.

i may return to big red, im currently testing out net 10

Posted a video of me getting data after a fresh wipe and install of L.

http://www.droid-life.com/2014/08/26/verizon-volte-hd-voice-launch/

I really need to remember to watch OP's video when I get home. This is very exciting. So to get data, you had to activate a Verizon device and swap SIMs, right? After that, the only thing not working is the CDMA voice? So in theory, if the above poser's link is correct (Verizon rolling out VoLTE soon) I could actually switch to them?
It's Verizon so I probably wouldn't do it permanently, but it would be cool to try for a month, if for nothing more than a proof of concept or neat trick. Hope Verizon does that soon.

This just won't work bro, not on CDMA.
I worked for Sprint and their system is the same.
The SIM card is strictly for LTE, everything else goes over the CDMA network, which requires server authentication.
Even when VoLTE will roll out, that authentication will remain in place.

People have got data in the past. Its voice that's the issue.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

he can get voice & sms on it, though not via the sim card number;
I replied to the video with -
"..though it won't be your Verizon mobile number;
you could try using ring.to / grooveIP for voice / sms via the lte connection..
I use that as a back up number on sprint, mostly for lte , wifi , evdo routed calls,
even gsm / hspa+ & wifi when sim swapped out of the country on my nexus 5.
after editing the echo settings, it should work wonders thru that Verizon lte connection.."

just thought of something, real simple..
the cdma radio authentication is what's stopping the nexus 5 from being on Verizon,
but... **does the lte band need the same authentication**?
let's just say, on my nexus 5, with the new google voice hangouts / sprint number integration,
i go through the dialer into settings to toggle **lte only** which disables the cdma radio,
pop in a Verizon unlimited data sim, in an area with verizon's band 4..
over the top, voip service on lte..?

Nexus 4 Tmobile support docs - Wifi calling confirmed ?

Just checked Tmobile support site and they already uploaded Nexus 4 support documents.
Tmobile support site /docs/DOC-5015 (sorry, not enough posts count to post link.)
Wifi calling is clearly listed there and supported. (In contrast, Visual VM is listed as not support)
They require a TM9-177 sim card but the 99c microSIM from Tmobile is TM9-190. Not sure if that will make a diff.
Keep my fingers crossed for now.
Here's the link
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5015#WiFi_Calling
I realize the answer is probably no but still want to ask. Would a straight talk t mobile sim enable WiFi calling? If not where does WiFi calling start (eg t mobile prepaid, two year contract)?

T-mobile's 99 cent sim card is full size. the 177 may be the micro version. I plan to cut my own.
It appears to be a setting on the OS itself, like a voip setting:
see below: there is no wifi calling app:
Set up Wi-Fi / Internet Calling
To turn on Wi-Fi Calling, follow these steps:
Important: To use Wi-Fi Calling, you must register your 9-1-1 address at my.t-mobile.com. If you have not registered your address, your phone will display a red Wi-Fi Calling icon. When you open the Notification screen, you will see the following error message: Wi-Fi Calling error. Error: REG09 "Missing911 Address."
From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
Tap the Menu icon.
Tap Settings.
Scroll to and tap Internet call settings.
Under Account, set up a new calling account with information specific to your calling plan..

Again, T-Mobile is not allowed to mess with the software or Google wouldn't let them sell it. So WiFi calling in an app form will not happen. What the user said above about setting up WiFi calling is different, and that is fine since its within the software
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4G
Exactly, I have made the imp information bold now. Document does not say launch wifi calling app to enable it. There is no wifi calling app installed. It says go to Phone app and set it up. Looks like tmobile is using Androids VOIP feature?

I don't think you quite understood my question. Straight talk works on both tmobile and att depending on the sim you get. My questions is if you can use the wifi calling through them. If you could the tmobile would be awesome becasue it has faster data and less coverage. The coverage would work better via wifi if the signal was low otherwise.
Man I really hope so. That's the one thing I really miss about my old tmo phones. I don't use wifi calling often but its a big help to have when its needed like at a hospital with wifi

I think so too.
Are we talking about WiFi calling now being like sip?
I am speculating this. Can people with GNex try to follow the steps in the document and see if it works?
If it is an OS (4.1 or 4.2) feature and tmobile has worked around it to accommodate wifi calling then it should work on Gnex as well.

The document doesn't actually give you the sip settings so I see no way to add an account without that info.
Wifi calling doesn't mean much to me since I don't use a lot of minutes anyways. But this is good for everyone else that does.
So looks like google has added in wifi calling. Smooth

I might be in a re-farmed area, but so far I'm getting 4g, and LTE exactly the same as my tmobile iphone 5. Maybe it's already AWS unlocked? How do I tell?
I do want to confirm that I am getting AWS on my factory unlocked S4 Active with no mods. e, 3g, 4g, and LTE. I know this because on my hacked note 2 without the AWS mod i couldn't get all that.

Yes, I got the unlock code from them yesterday and the first thing I did was to pop my TMO sim in. Only 3G for me. So then I check my apn settings and configure it for fast.tmo but that doesn't even connect up, had to us EPC.tmo for the 3g to connect.
Did you have to mess with your APN settings?
It took about 3 minutes after putting the SIM in for it to auto configure. Then rebooted and data came online all bands. APN is epc.
Maybe you need a different SIM?

I'd have to second the notion that you might need a new SIM.
I've been taking screen shots. I've had every data possible. e, 3g, h+, 4g, and LTE. The ATT unlock code definately unlocks the AWS flag in the NVRAM.

When I got the code from AT&T it took less than 10mins and I don't even have AT&T. But now they got a new rule about giving unlock codes I had to call twice because the first person wouldn't give me the code but the second did.

first off you need to be on stock sprint rom or base for this to work. also it will work on bad esn phones
1. You should be rooted
2. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
3. Run Terminal Emulator
4. Type "su" (excluding quotation marks) and grant it superuser permission
5. Type "am start com.redbend.vdmc/com.htc.omadm.test.TestMainActivity" (excluding quotation marks)
6. You will get menu on your HTC
7. In that menu, select "API", then scroll down 'till almost end and select "simlock"
8. Reboot the phone and hopefully it would accept GSM SIM
9. Enter *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer
10.In the phone information section(the first one) set preferred network type to something that is GSM specific: "WCDMA Preferred", for example. The phone will switch to GSM mode
here's a video also if you get stuck

which means that in areas where ATT uses 850mhz for HSPA(3g/4g) you will not get anything but edge/2g at best. And in areas where TMO uses AWS for 3g/4g... you will not get anything but edge/2g.
In areas where ATT has 3g/4g on 1900mhz you will be able to use it. And if TMO has 3g/4g on 1900mhz you will be able to use it.

also, HSPA, LTE, GSM, etc is not the band type, its a network type.. by Band type I mean LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40, which is also another way to describe radio frequency
as you can see in the first pic of my first post, in the Samsung device, it shows Band 4
but my question was for mindblizzard,
I don't think the phone can show that information
Sent from my OnePlusOne
which is why Iam asking around to see if theres an app that can...

I would assume to see if the band unlock mod works for other frequencies?
I will see if band 20 is unlocked in few weeks once i get my 4g/LTE data package.

That's all fine and dandy, but it's not like your carrier is operating multiple frequencies that you're likely to see ever. Maybe if you live in an incredibly dense population center, but even then... Perhaps I'm missing something.

Im just curious to see what Band/DL Bandwidth my carrier is using... Our area is suppose to be upgraded to a new LTE network using a new band and what not...

Fair enough, if you have LTE already, and they are simply deploying a new frequency, you likely won't notice any change, to any of the service. Speeds don't increase between bands, the only reason a carrier deploys a new band, is to fight radio interference from other carriers. Given the cost of a single radio, carriers generally only deploy these new radios in VERY congested areas. Meaning, that in a city that has, say 15 towers, 2-3 of them would actually get the upgrade, in the area that suffers from the most interference. (You have to bear in mind, that a full tower build, requires 6 radios, each radio costing about $18,000 for the radio, another $1000 for the antenna, another $500-1500 for the power supply and cabling. They don't just "upgrade" an entire area, it takes too long to recoup costs)

Ah my mistake, i had in my head he meant to check for bands in the area which he can use with the 'unlocked' frequency mod..for some reason. My total mistake!
However what i meant with what i said when i get my 4g is that i can confirm that the unlock mod will enable band 20 since our OPO is restricted/doesnt support it by default. The band app would be good though!

T MOBILE Speed is low on FD models?

I remember when I had the note 8 N Version you had to change csc but don't think csc change does anything lol
Am I the only one?

i'm using the 960F/DS, with an ATT CSC and i get HD Voice with both ATT and T-Mobile calls (i see the HD symbol on the Google Dialer/Phone). i've been very happy with my T-Mobile LTE cellular internet speeds in my low-signal coverage neighborhood. will test again and post results from current biz trip where T-Mobile has excellent coverage on internet speeds.

i didn't use the flash method; couldn't find a flashable file with an ATT CSC for the Note9. so...i extracted and copied-pasted the ATT CSC folder/files from ATT's most recent full ROM and manually edited the necessary dat files in the omc and /efs/imei folders on my phone. that being said, neither ATT nor T-Mobile WiFi calling and video calling work, but that's not an issue for me. i use the Google Dialer and Duo for video calls.

Clever.
I have both working but I need speed more than voice lte since I barely talk on the phone
And use what'sapp
T-Mo cellular internet speeds in DC... Remember this is with an AT&T CSC configuration on my dual SIM note 9, with TMobile SIM selected for calls, text and data.

I use simplemobile, which is an mnvo of t-mobile and this is what im getting in LA with the T-mobile tekhd zip.
With Tmobile I had to delete the 12 band and then restart the phone

What MCCI code did you use to access the services menu on your Note 9?

thanks for the link; i figured out the codes shortly after posting my message.
Rather than turning off band that provider might actually use in some situations, try turning off band that you possibly won't use, like band 39, or whatever.
See if that fixes preference to band 4, while still maintaining band 12 for odd situation.
I'm only saying this, because in Canada for provider freedom, band 66 is the fastest, and international phones actually prefer to connect to band 4 which is the slowest for this particular provider. Since we don't have access to modem settings since oreo, I found that disabling any of the unused bands (30,46,39 whatever), brings back proper behaviour like Canadian model counterparts, choosing band 66 majority of times, while still maintaining band 4 for building penetration.
Just try, give a few minutes, check on *#0011#, see if you're still defaulting to 12, or something else with more throughput, might work, might not.
