[q] is the mi3 this worth buying? - Mi 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys I'm sure this Question would be raised much earlier, but not able to see this post. Read a lot many negative reviews about this phone, flipkart having issues with replacements, service centers not operational etc.. In a big dilemma weather to buy this or not..
Genuine advice please.

For the money you are paying , it is definitely worth. Even i saw many negative reviews but later most of the users got their replacement , moreover the bugs are software kinda issues you could official Xiaomi English forum to fix software kinda issues.
I bought my Mi3 from flipkart only i dont have any issues so far i bought 2nd flash sale on flipkart. The sim card tray will be lil hard to open just push it hard it will pop out So Definitely for 14k it is Worth it!

a phone with better specs than Nexus 5 for half the price, do you really have to ask that question?
i am paying considerably more for it because i have to import from china, and i'd say it is still worth every penny.
for that kind of money i would only get a low-midrange device in my country (except i would go for a subsidized one with provider lock)
as with all electronic devices, there are probably going to be duds, as even the best QC will not test every single device. happens to the best. should not be used to judge in my opinion, except there is a high number of failing devices.
you have local service centers, so even that would not be a problem.
i envy you people in India, and still there are some *peeep* complaining.
check your alternatives in that price range and then tell me if you found something better?
sorry for the ranty post... i certainly don't mean to offend anyone.
don't worry too much, just buy one and enjoy it.

Lol...I just ordered my third Mi3 yesterday for my son...

i'll buy it
for me mi3 is just unfair for smartphone competition, it will drag all the fancy phone come play to the ground. MI 3 still the best phone in its class compared to others. just minus couple of things like no sdcard, no lte, not a water proof and not a dust proof. Other than that, it is a great phone and the best in its class..

Considering ATT Tilt, but...

Ok, so first hello to everyone! First time posters but I've been trolling around for a little bit, trying to get research on different phones offered by HTC and how they operate on each network, etc. and how customizable they are. Basically, I've concluded that the Tilt(Kaiser) is the one for me, graphics driver issue or not.
My only concern is that ATT does not offer a warranty for it, so what happens if I drop it in water, etc. Not saying that this is going to happen, but I always like to cover my bases. Does HTC offer an extended warranty, or any kind of protection at all? I don't want to end up paying 300 bucks and after a year or so get screwed because it is not working or something. I'm not really made of money, I mean, I can afford the phone, but not really buying another one, especially because you can't really (as far as I know) get a new one at the same price you'd pay for one with a new 2 year contract.
Anyway, sorry for the side track, and also if this was already answered, I hadn't seen it in my searches.
there was another thread regarding insurance issue...maybe theres info there for u
I would recommend you to check out Square trade. I am a veteran phone seller ( not really a pro ) and I always recommend my buyers with square trade. Their price is reasonable and their service is pretty much hassle free.
Beside that , since there is no warranty anyway, get the refurbished phone. Refurbished phone is checked twice , so the chance of defected item is low. With 2 years contract you can gat a Tilt for 150 bucks, which is a great deal compare with 450-550.
When I spoke to ATT last week, they told me by early june ALL phones (minus iphone of course..) will be insurable including the tilt...but the tilt and similar phones will have a higher deductable ($125ish if i remember right)

Best Place To Buy A Touch Diamond

Hi,
This is my first post here, but the site is great and I've been coming back here for about 2 weeks while trying to decide if I should buy a diamond and I have to say the people, reviews and discussions have certainly swayed my choice into getting one. It was touch and go (pardon the pun) for a while after some initial bad reviews, but since the ROM update it seems everybody is a lot happier! I know it will take a bit of tweaking, but I'm a S/W engineer, so its nothing I'm afraid of, but it will be my first WM device, so I'm a little scared...
I nearly opted for the iPhone, but its a brick, if not a pretty cool device, but I want something that I can put in my pocket and use as a normal phone... I have an iPod for music and videos, a phone is a phone (but the GPS rocks)
Anyway, I digress, I do have only 2 questions and the first one is pretty redundant from reading this forum, but here goes:
I saw a Touch Diamond for sale on eBay and the guy selling it said that he was selling it because he was disappointed because when he came to use the GPS it was a lie and that he needed an extra component and had to carry something else around? Whats all this about. I did freak a little when I read in all the spec sheets that it was GPS "READY"... what does READY mean? I assume it comes with it all from reading the reviews.
Second question, since my mind is pretty made up and I will be getting one, where is the best place to buy one (for the UK, and UK spec) I'm not looking for cheapness, as i know they are knew and average is around £450ish (inc VAT and Delivery) but dunno where to get one from (Not eBay anyway) any advice on the best online shop, or if anybody knows of any shops that sell them (in Manchester) that would be great.
Thanks for any help in advance!
DG
Plenty of places in the UK to buy them from, if you had done a search you would have found a thread that listed all the places in UK that are selling them and they are uk spec.
But for you ill name a few:
www.expansys.com now have the official uk spec Diamonds
www.clove.co.uk
www.play.com
www.totalpda.co.uk
www.powerupmobile.com
www.htcdirect.co.uk
those are your best bets...think Expansys is based in Manchester but dont know if they allow you to go there and pick up the phone...best to ring them i suppose.
I would recommend Play.com. Never had any problems with them and at the moment it's only £399.99 with free delivery. Others sell it for about £435 or £440.
Yeah, sorry, should have done a search, but battery was dying on the laptop and no plug in sight!
Anyway, thanks for the links guys. I did heard that expansys were selling non official versions and thats one reason I asked, I have used them before but for nothing really as expensive as this.
Thats really cheap for Play, I may used them since I have an account with them...somewhere!
Now I will have the agonising wait and ensuing dissapointment that when I wake up the postman hasn't brought it its going to be a LONG week!

The general consensus is that this is only if you're a business customer buying an additional handset for your account.
Surely if most places are selling it for £400+ Vodafone won't be giving them away with no contract?!
I saw the eBay one with the guy saying no GPS too - and got a bit worried about my pre order one. I actually emailed him and asked about it. He replied saying it was GPS Ready, but needed additional hardware. After a bit of research I emailed him back again saying I was sure it definately had it built in - within another day the auction had closed early!
Whether he'd done a quick sale, or realised his error - who knows?!
Play is the best price - unless you can get a bargain on eBay. Watch out for 'Next Day' sellers whos small print says a week+ unless you pay extra postage!
WARNING!!! if you buy from play.com in the UK, you'll have to pay VAT tax as the unit will probably be held up in customs.. reason being, Play.com ships from a tax free zone.
It's clearly stated in their terms & conditions that the customer is responsible for taxes. Read the fine print!!
2ndly, I called HTC UK the other day and they told me play.com isn't an authorised dealer so you won't get full UK warranty. I'm serious.. a girl at HTC told me...
If it is a USA order
If you are in the US, then the best place to buy the phone is from Ryan at Negri Electronics. I had a problem with the first two phones (the first was a power issue, the second was wifi). I emailed them in the morning, and by the afternoon I had a UPS overnight tracking order. They included return labels, and it was no questions asked. I have bought all my luxry phones starting back at the Nokia 8800 and up til now (yes I have a addiction for cell phones). NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE! The Diamond also registered on the HTC site. The phone is shrink wrapped in the retail package (he has a network, and actually travels to get the product on or before release that are not grey's). Price my be higher or lower but not by much. I trully think its worth it, because you don't have to wonder about what your are getting or when. They ship the next business day (I gotta give them credit on their speed and customer service. The answer emails right away, and phone calls are 99% answered, and messages are returned immediately.
Heres the direct link: DIAMOND- http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-unlocked-p-1506.html
DIAMOND PRO: http://www.negrielectronics.com/htc-touch-pro-p-1530.html
Desktop CRADLE: http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-desktop-cradle-g300-p-1526.html
Mine is perfect. They really have their business together.
PS: This is not an advertisement, this is my honest opinion. I have made purchase from expansys (paid for overnight, got it a week later).
Do we know when UK networks are gonna start selling these on contracts?
Im assuming all of them are branding this phone?

Tmobile will be doing them from end of the month from what i have heard..as for voda, orange and o2 they will be carrying it but dont really know when...possibly July??.
As for branding??..yep you can be 110% sure that they will be all branded to some extent. As usual Tmobile will make sure its locked to their network and probably Orange. Voda and o2 will probably sell it unlocked but with their branding on it.

Really??? hmm... call HTC and ask them I guess...
Mine shows up as 1 year as well... but with the following message:
Note: Your POP (Proof of Purchase) determines your warranty period. If you cannot provide your POP, your product will be warranted within the above period.
any ideas?? am I still entitled to 2 years warranty??

Safe to buy a used LG G4 in reference to major bootloop issue on older models?

I was in the market to replace my parent’s old Galaxy Note 2. So I’ve been searching around for comparable phone that has slight upgrades. My Budget is around $300. Parents need a phone with removable battery and good GPS so I’m limited to the LG G3, G4 and Note 3 and 4. Also wants screen at 5.5 inches or larger. So was concerned to read about this widespread bootloop issue. After reading up on this issue it seems all old models/ will eventually be affected. I usually purchase phones second hand off of eBay or Swappa but in this case It seems I must be very careful as it seems many people are unloading these devices which will eventually fail. Some have sold their devices beforehand because of this and I’m sure as second hand buyers we will inherit/get the issue in time. Also not sure about how warranty works for second hand buyers. I’m with T-Mobile by the way. What do you guys think about buying a G4 right now? Safe bet or stay away? Also if you guys know any comparable devices that meet all the criteria or most let me know. Thanks
I'll throw my two cents in here. I bought an LG G2 about a year ago and loved the LG style of hardware, button placement, and great performance. I had the old upgrade itch rear its ugly head and so I decided the G4 was the phone for me. Generally it wouldn't bother me to buy mint used phones, but I decided in this case I should do some research. I found out about the bootloop issue and decided it wasn't worth the risk (for me). An awesome deal came up on eBay, brand new G4 in box for $348, snapped that up right away, got it yesterday and from my time with it so far I love it. Best phone I've ever owned. Sorry for the long preamble, here's my advice, if you can swing the extra $40 -$50 for a new boxed phone (assuming a deal like that pops up on eBay again) I would say go for it. The extra $50 in my mind is well worth the peace of mind knowing that it has a warranty. I will say that when I was looking at Swappa I saw a lot of like new T-Mobile refurbs for the G4, however I was still a bit hesitant on those because I couldn't find much info on T-Mobile's refurbishment process. You may be more comfortable with T-Mobile refurbs than I was though so something to consider. I hope you find something that will work well!
Thanks for the advice

Yeah the scary part is it seems people are just unloading the phones and you cant really know which ones will have issues later. If i buy new from ebay will i still be covered by T-Mobiles warranty ? I thought to get that you had to buy the phone direct from them ? I will keep looking around to see if any deals come up.

I don't think you'll be covered by T-Mobile's warranty, but you should be covered by LG's manufacturer warranty (I would think anyway) as long as it's new in box. Also a lot of the new supply is likely to be manufactured after the date when they had issues. The issue dates were from months 05-08 of 2015 (from what I've read in the forums). The phone I got from eBay was manufactured in 09 2015 so it should *fingers crossed* be just fine.

your right. Before i buy it ill have to ask the seller a lot of questions like when was it manufactured and whats the serial numbers and such. Will look into LG's warranty coverage for eBay. I think on eBay you can also buy squaretrade coverage as well.

there is a new in box on swappa right now, but the seller says he opened the box to remove the sim. Do phones come with a sim already in place like that?

I'm not aware of any phone that comes with a sim pre-installed.
T-Mobile phones come with an unactivated sim on a punch out card. They are not "installed" in the phone. The Swappa seller is not including this sim in his listing.

Used prices are roughly 300 used so new would cost 500ish but there have been sales that brought the price down to 400ish. Keep waiting and it'll drop even more.

well right now the G4 (H811) is going for $400 (Full Price) and just recently there was a $75 off from $400 but ended already....just wait or if you have $100 more to spare just get it, but i just recommend to wait a bit to see a permanent price cut on the G4 or even the V10.

Zuk Deal... Too good to be true??

Hey guys, I just ordered myself a Grey Zuk Z1 from AliExpress seller called LuckyDog :silly:
It's $209 including shipping to New Zealand. Looks too good to be true but I did it anyway. The seller has only started selling on AEx earlier this year but he has 100% positive feedback.
I am waiting and not very sure what to expect. Everything in the ad looks legit.
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Orig...E-WCDMA-CDMA-Smartphone-Dual/32644824011.html
Take a look and let me know.
I have also decided to mod the skin myself instead of the custom skins rip offs being sold around. I got a car Decal Vinyl for about 90 cents and it's going to look mean as.
Anybody?
its kinda too late to give you an advice, isnt it?
do you want to hear that this is a safe and good buy?
i would not buy a phone frome a seller with only 300 sells ... these sells may be fake?
i bought mine from amazon shipped directly from ZUK and did so because i want to have a good service in case the homebutton breaks, which will happen sometime.
i hope your device will arrive at your place and youre happy with the device

Actually it makes sense to do so, as I can cancel my order anytime before it ships. So I can still do so. How do you spot a fake Zuk, actually why would you fake something that is already very cheap?
I won't worry too much about warranty, I can fix things myself (hardware) when it gets to that as shipping things around from NZ is very expensive. Not to mention that with me rooting the device, I do not expect warranty anyway. Plus, people has been having troubles with ZUK's support so adds up to me not relying too much on warranty.
You are making a compelling argument nevertheless and the point you have raised which I agree with is regarding the product being fake.
i dont get it why you ask for opinions if you defend your position anyway
i just stated i would never buy a phone from a new seller especially at aliexpress. i rooted my device after using it for 2 months, now 7 months after buying it the home buttons feels sluggish.
i didnt pressed it for 5 months because i used mrcoldbirds rom and since a few weeks the nuclearrom but youre right, if you want to tear the phone apart you can fix it by yourself
no more answers from me
I didn't mean to sound defensive. You're right there.
Maybe I should break it down to questions, makes it easy to stay on track
- Has there been any reports of bad or fake Zuk Z1?
- Has there been any complaints of Zuk Z1 devices bought of AliExpress
- Any cheap alternatives to buy the phone for someone in New Zealand?
Thanks heaps for your input and time, feeling a bit ashamed for not thanking you earlier.

SoC downgraded from 835 to 662

Hello,
So after wanting one after the campaign ended ... I ended up "ordering one" last month ... waiting for news ... and the first one is .. a downgrade in SoC.
F(x)tec tries to up-play it as being newer and with better battery life... newer, ok... better battery life, not interested. Never had an issue with battery life given I always carry a power pack with me.
I'd rather get something with 5G given I do have 5G available. And at this point I'd rather wait for something with wifi 6E.
They also try to up-play it that I might be able to sell it for a profit ... No, I won't .. it's already overpriced ! And it's a niche product not many are interested ! 0 chances ! I probably won't be able to sell it for half the price ! And let's not talk about warranty and the fact that UK is out of EU.
So, now they say I can't ask for a refund .. after not even being bothered to ask the community that helped in what direction to go ?!
I for one am not happy about this change !
I don't want it anymore. For all I know they could of planed this. They could of even try to sell a 632 or worse for the same money ! I don't see myself wining anything in this change !
So now we have to wait more months ... for something lower ?! I'd rather pay more and get something better if I have to wait.
XDA, what's your oppinion ?
Seeing it the same way!!! It's a shame!! Not only for F(x)Tec but also for all XDA!!!
I also would have rather payed more/waited longer for a better performing SOC! A company who has even a bit of decency would have upgraded not downgraded!
@d3xt3r01 you already know that they don't refund?
If so I also will need to get in contact with my credit card company, for me that is fraud. Any other ideas what we can do?
@ekagero yes, already got a reply from their support saying no refund and that I did an investment.
I ordered an 'indemand' after the campaign ended... On jan 7th. I then sent an email to make sure everything is still ok. They didn't say anything about a change. Doubt they didn't know then. I consider that a lie.
The indiegogo campaign page is full of comments from many users not happy with the change and a few defenders...
Already talked to my bank.

Any luck there?
At least they could have given us a 700 series SoC. This is just a blatant bait-and-switch.
