Yeah, this does seem low compared to some of the other devices around, but i guess we have to consider this is a budget friendly device. Its about getting an even balance of performance to price. For some, this could meet their requirements, will be interesting to see how owners of the device rate the display.

First review? (mini, as author said)

So, good performence overall, but quality of display is poor.

GSM version has a .3MP front facing cam, CDMA version has a 1.3MP FF - in the US Cricket is selling the GSM version and Boost and Sprint the CDMA

There is only 4 GB for ROM, not 8 GB and there is only about 500-700 MBS available for apps, etc. Because of that I'm really thinking about taking it back even though it was free.

No flash or autofocus on phone, pictures are terrible any way to fix or is there alternate camera app to use?

NFC
Hi there! I have the Sprint version. Is there a way to get the NFC working?

I have the Boost variant and there is no NFC. I'm pretty sure none of the variants have NFC actually. You can download Near Field NFC Tester from Play and check.

Only some phones have NFC (Near Field Communications) and only in certain places\country so if it's not on your phone now it's not going to be.

[SPECS] ZTE Axon

Hi all
With a lot of the features found in leading manufactures handsets, the ZTE Axon looks like a promising device. One omission is a microSD card slot, which for me is a must. Who's planning on purchasing the ZTE Axon, and why?
For those unaware of the specs:good:

I have ordered this phone plus case from Amazon. As a Belgian, the total cost of the phone, tax and duty included, is almost the cost of a S6 Edge. But I like the being a bit more original so I have chosen this phone. The specs are nice and so are most reviews. Really looking forward and I hope having it by the end of the week.
This seller is telling that sim slot 2 can take microSD too.
Is it true?

There are two variants, one is 4gb and one is 8gb. The weight, with the battery loaded is almost 205 grams.
Getting a better phone nowadays is easily an option though for its current MRP, 8900 or so, the 8gb model makes a good buy for frequent travellers or battery lovers. it has started lagging (slowing down of hardware) on my device after a year now.
and.. IT IS UNBRICKABLE! YEEE

Reducing Resolution?

Hey people! As you know many devices with 1440p display has an option to run at 1080p resolution. Is there a similar option in Nokia 8? Will it improve battery life and performance?

No you will have the same screen with the same pixels just running at a resolution that isn't native.
Thanks for your info.

There was a massive discussion about this in the Nexus 6P forums. In the end I think the general concencous was that it wasn't worth the effort as there was no tangible gains in performance or battery life.
Some users did report better performance in games and with the snapdragon 810 many users reported the device generally felt like it was cooler to the touch.
I tried it and while under load my Nexus 6P didn't seem to get as hot but I didn't notice any battery life improvements or any performance gains.
Obviously this was a completely different device but the basic principles remain the same.
Anyway, just thought some first hand experience might be helpful.

Check out this how-to-thread in the htc10 forum to try yourself:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/mod-change-default-resolution-to-1080p-t3638543
nokia 8 (5.3inch, 1440p)
wm size - physical size: 1440x2560
wm density - physical density: 560
nokia 8 has 5 values for override density at 1440p:
small:476
standard: 560
big: 612
bigger: 666
biggest: 720
so if you override display size to 1080p they would have to be:
small:357
standard: 420
big: 459
bigger: 500
biggest: 540
so if you override display size to 720p they would have to be:
small: 238
standard: 280
big: 306
bigger: 333
biggest: 360
Thanks people. I am running on 720p right now and definitely there is increased smoothness in many apps, maybe as they are not so taxing on the processor. Will do a battery drain test for a couple of days. And definitely the display looks washed out on 720p but no so much on 1080p.
Definitely there is improvement in battery life with reduced resolution. Running at 720p.

General Xiaomi Mi 11 Hands-on: A gorgeous screen and Snapdragon 888 at a good price

Considering the world has been stuck in a pandemic for the better part of 2020, one might think the consumer tech space would slow down in 2021. Nope, not in the ever-competitive Android smartphone space. 2021 is not even a week old and the first flagship smartphone of the year has already arrived in the form of the Xiaomi Mi 11. Others, like the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, will soon follow.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 began shipping to buyers in mainland China just two days ago, and Hong Kong’s top import shop Trinity Electronics has already secured units for sale in the city. The shop was kind enough to loan us a retail unit for a few hours. Our time with the device is limited, so this is by no means a review, but a first look at the world’s first Snapdragon 888 phone.

Battle of Flagship smartphone processors

The year 2022 will see one of the fiercest battles in the history between Mediatek and Qualcomm where both these brands are ready with MediaTek Dimensity 9000 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipsets respectively to grab the flagship market. Which one of these would do you think would do better?
Moot competition. There will be newer chipsets that will supersede the performance of both 9000 and Gen 1 in 6 months.
Also both vendors don't support their chipsets for more than 2 years so history will remember these clowns for meteoric rise in e-waste.

Maybe, but perhaps everything works like this. Dimensity 9000 may be so good, but every good things gets old in some days.
I don't need no stinking support
