Overclocking Kernels for the TF701t - Asus Transformer TF701

Hi, does anyone know of any kernels available for the tf701 so we can overclock/underclock the processor better? I still am kind of new to this forum. I want to do this for overall battery life improvement and also performance improvements as a bonus. thanks for your help!!

There are none currently.
Not sure the device really needs it either. It's very fast as it and would only generate more heat and worse battery on an already hot device.
Tweaking the kernel and rom are much better options (CROMi-X )

I essentially wanted to use SetCPU in order to dramatically underclock the processor during sleep and slightly underclock it while its screen is on (because who needs all this processing power really?). This could possibly stretch out my battery life by another day. Do you think that will be possible to do when I install a different ROM on the tablet? (like yours for example)

Ah ok - download trickster mod and set the min and max freq there. SetCPU is years old and won't work with our device

with the trickster mod, would I be able to set profiles for it when I do things like turn off the screen? thanks for the suggestion!!

Nope - it just sets the min and max.

I wonder why it gets hot though. I thought these are SoC's and aren't supposed to get hot. The tf101 didnt get hot at all. But if you overclocked it to 1.6 it started to get warm.

Does anyone know if this happens as regularly on cm11 or another aosp ROM? Also, what's a good max level to clock it at so I don't constantly worry about the heat issue?

What exactly are you worried about? You can't clock it past 1.9GHz anyway which while it might get toasty it won't fry an egg or anything.

I just want to make sure getting it this warm wouldn't damage the hardware in anyway.

Any tweak that balances out active CPU cores?

Is it anyone that can share and care with me some kind of modifying / tweaks that shuts down how many CPU cores that is active at the same moment? My problem is that battery life is suffering thanks to the CPU is working at an high level even when using simple tasks like browsing the web thru the built in web browser.
Help me please..

Download system tuner or get this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamkang.fauxclock
And then just look at your cores. 97% of the time there is just 1 core working (on my phone).
Faux's app is about the same as CPU Spy, but Faux123 Kernel Enhancement Pro can also tell/show you the amount of time that all 4 cores were being used. Which is really barely never. If it's different in your case then you could do some tweaks, but I really doubt that it will be different then my phone. In the end it also depends what you use your phone for of course.

If 1 one core is used - why is my battery draining like crazy? I am greenifying every known battery eating app that is installed on my phone but even then, I got bad battery life on my Xperia Z it is two days old though..

Yeah well... if anything... The least you should worry about are you cores.
Have you installed BBS/CPU Spy to see if your phone is going into sleep mode correctly?

My phone enter Deep sleep pretty quickly so it is nothing wrong with Deep sleep and sleep mode.
Maybe undervolting of stock kernel frequencies can help me with the fast battery drainage? I mean, my battery life is good but undervolting can make it better?
Turn off gps, google now, every vibration and unnecesary keyboard, dial sound.
The battery life will be better.

I guess UV helps to improve the battery life, but I don't know how much. The great thing of UV is that the phone also doesn't become too hot.

[Q] Switching between CPU modes

Hi guys,
I may be being completely dense but on the TF700 you could switch between power saver, balanced and performance modes.
Can this be done on the TF701? I'm on 4.3 and can't find it anywhere!
Owen.
Pull down the menu from the top and choose intelligent saving. Or open the app called energy-saving and choose there what you want to choose.

That is not what he is asking. He knows that already.
He means to switch between different CPU frequencies as on the TF700 is possible.
I don't know if this is also done with the energy savings settings.
Maybe after Sbdags started to build a custom Rom he can find out if it can be done.

I can see already by playing around with the ROM files that Asus haven't set it up the same way - in fact I'm yet to see any indication of how they do it, if they even do.
I could be wrong but I read somewhere, that when your do low level tasks, like watching video, it goes to single core.

Well that is nothing new. The TF700 with Tegra 3 did that already and Tegra 4 does the same.
I guess maybe they don't lower the clock frequency just limit Wifi, brightness etc. on the TF701.

Yeah that was my wondering, a bit more 'intelligent'. Certainly can't find anything obvious in any menus or pull downs.
Checked with SystemTuner the max CPU freq when energy saving off and on.
Off: 1.91 Ghz
On: 1.7 Ghz.
So they still use it, but only 2 frequencies.

So for normal use you can let energy saving enabled unless you want to play 3d games.
When browsing I don't see any difference in speed, also not with other applications.
But for sure running an Antutu test is will score lower.

Well.. he said right.. don't overclock too much. You can but it reduces the life of the phone hardware (from what I've seen ). You can overclock when you need it during gaming and then underclock after it.

And it is not 2.222GHz, it is 1.2 GHz. 2.2GHz will burin your phone... But I think you can get those values anyway.
AFAIK, there is no significant effect of overclocking on the CPU.
My previous device has 600mhz CPU and I overclocked it to 824mhz and used it for 2 years without any problem(it got stolen after that..?)
Also the capacity to which your cpu can be over clocked varies from device to device.
Again taking my previous device as an example.
For some people, it was stable at 824mhz but some people got many random reboots if they increased the frequency above 729mhz.
So basically we all have to find that frequency above which the phone starts rebooting (it may vary from person to person) by proper testing.
We shouldn't really bug cocafe for these reboots.
Tl;dr: the maximum overclock frequency at which we have no reboots varies from device to device.

Exacly, I forgot about that. For example my PC CPU can overclock to 3GHz at stock voltage. For 3.1GHz I need to pump it up and it heats alot more... So there is some wall. I am sure that is the case for phone CPU too, some can be OC-ed to some point, some can't.
It has been said that OC reduces life of CPU, but I keep my PC CPU overclocked since I bought it - 4-5 years ago. It is still alive. And now it cost like >10 beers in cafe.

(Q) CPU controller

I just got an m7 and I'm trying to figure out how to control the other CPU frequencies. I know on my old s3 I could just run echo them through a script but on here the only CPU with the cpufreq folder is cpu0, I can't seem to find anything on it so does anyone know how to do this?

If you're rooted, you can install a custom kernel like elemetal IX, this will allow you to set max frequency for each core. Just make sure you're using a compatible ROM, like ARHD. If you're looking for something that will allow on the fly adjustment, I'll have to find something else.

yeah with newer HTC devices you can't change freqs on the fly on stock kernel, because HTC have daemons and stuff to boost CPU and it will always reset it to stock 384-1728MHz
Either you need a kernel with pnpmgr (poewr and performance manager) ndisabled, freqs limited in the kernel source or one with aroma max freq choice

I hate to ask because I could find it myself but do you happen to know of a few other kernels that supports all core control or one you recommend? Elemental x is over a month dated and doesn't have a lot of useful extra governors imo. I'm running android revolution. So far the threads I've checked either don't mention they support it or just don't.

Extra governors are not needed since on demand does the job well, its like a hybrid interactive/ondemand though how it has post freqs etc
I'd recommend elemental, bulletproof, kangaroo (coughcough)
Imo limiting freq doesn't do much for battery.. But you can use power saver mode to limit to 1134mhz and its still super smooth
Extra bells and whistles are not needed and are buzzwords

Haha didn't see you were the Dev, I'll give it a run for awhile. And I just mostly don't like how the phone heats up when running at the higher frequencies/voltages but I know on my last phone limiting the CPU speeds seemed to have helped a lot. Overall I'd just rather have longer battery life over performance any day.

Try looking at your battery statistics. Whatever is heating your phone is using a lot of battery to do that.
all my apk i have install other my devices: dell venue 8, htc desire, samsung i8150
they is not hot - with charge i using max. 28C
battery stats shows nothing wonder
it is not the fault of the battery
hot feel in around camera - maybe procesor
What are you doing with the note when it gets hot.
restart i cools
i had CM11 and battery doctor show 2x1400 Mhz all time
battery widget show about 48-50C
now i have slimsaber and i install new kernel
battery widget show 26C w standby, but use (play games, internet) and charging about 40C

Sorry, but this phone will heat up when you use it. This all sounds normal.
To prevent that you could underclock or undervolt it.

Well, its not a solution because there is no problem.
These phones are going to get hot when used to game. By design. No way around it. Unless you start messing with voltages governors and clock speeds. You can really make a difference when you do. Undervolting and overclocking the gpu and reducing max clock speed to 1000, is how i used to play games. Now i switched to my shield for games.
