Let's start an Asus Zenfone 4 Development Thread - Asus Zenfone 4

Hello Zenfone owners.
I think we all are waiting for some development for this amazing device.
I request the developers to port popular ROMs to this device.
It would be very helpful.
Vamos!

A Separate Section for Zenfone Series
There has to be a separate Section for Zenfone series. Fellas Like/Comment below so that XDA mods make a separate section of Zenfone.
Thanks.

Yes. A dedicated Asus Zenfone 4 Development Thread would be nice. Hope to see it soon.
Thanks

Subscribed though.

This is the best so far of Zenfone in my honest opinion.

Yeah

Better if you post a poll, so devs and mods can see that we are in need of development.

I hope Zenfone 4 will have Custom Recovery soon. If the Custom Recovery created, i will make my own ROM and share it here..

Zenfone 5 already have CWM, guess Z4 ain't left behind.

My friends from ASUS T00I User Community Indonesia are still work with their recovery, and now they are trying to fix bug on mount SD, just wait it until stable bro!

Android 5.0 Port for Zenfone series. [ROM]

Well if u want development to kick in, bug asus to allow unlock bootloader for zenfone 4. I'd compile kernel for zenfone 4 the moment it can boot unsigned kernel ie bootloader can be unlock. Hell I've compile kernel so many times already but couldn't be tested because bootloader is still locked.

I don't know why asus is ignoring Zenfone 4. They have already unlocked the bootloaders of zen5 and zen6.
who knows whether they are ignoring or didn't succeed in unlocking the bootloader.
they never reply for bootloader unlock requests.

Rooted zenfone 4
Can we install ota update on asus z4?
Please help if yes.

That's why I said to keep bugging them, keep posting in their support forum, spread the word and keep asking there. At least when enough users showed interest on getting it unlock maybe they can take it more serious.

Yes that's the only option now

finally asus listens and they have released official bootloader unlock tool for zenfone 4 a400cg. lets the fun begin! i'll be compiling kernel, but we badly need custom recovery. probably can integrate custom recovery in kernel ramdisk like older sony phones. by doing so, stock recovery partition wont be touched and we still can receive and install ota upadates.

Oh that's great

Hey guys
Check out the boot tools for Zenfone 4 .

I hope it helps for development of our device.

I have a single request. Port cm11 for zenfone 4

Hey, I have zenfone 4 a450cg. I wanna ask, what will happen if I use 1 A charger like one of american's best product?
Will it give longer battery life?
Because I think lower charger Ampere will results in longer battery life if you use it for charging. That's just my opinion based on a few HH I had before this.

Read back in the thread a few pages - 1) GeoHot works for Google now. Hired to find and close exploits like the one towelroot used to root devices; 2) towelroot used a specific vulnerability in kernels dated before June 3. If your kernel is dated after June 3, the vulnerability has been patched and there is nothing GeoHot can "fix" to make towelroot work on your device; and related to that 3) either your phone has the vulnerability or it doesn't and towelroot either works to root your device or it doesn't and there is nothing GeoHot can do to fix towelroot to make it work for your device. Plus, like I said before GeoHot works for Google now so he can't create programs or apps that root phones by exploiting vulnerabilities he is supposed to now be fixing. Now that this same question has been answered for the 1,000,000th time in this thread, can we please get it closed?

@EMSpilot please don't sell your tablet... at least until Android L releases for the Tab S and you've released a stock, rooted ROM running it.
Oh well....there's nothing stopping those who's already rooted from flashing a future custom Android L rom, right? D

Look on the bright side. We needed CM and other AOSP variants in the past because most devices performed like crap. Now while not as smooth as stock Android, still rather speedy. Customization can be done with xposed mods.
Even if stuck on stock, it's not really that bad, to be honest.
You guys need to start learning something... for the sake of development...

No, I'm with you. I don't flash AOSP ROMs. I'm just afraid of not being able to upgrade to a stock, rooted TouchWiz Android L ROM.
But you're right, Samsung has put in the work and optimized TouchWiz over the years. I have no complaints with the performance.

I don't see why not. We're rooted with custom recoveries. As long as someone released a proper rom it can be flashed.
Otherwise just use Odin to flash the stock rom and root it again.

At least you had the 3G model and official JB (Asia only) . My Wi Fi model was thrown into the dung heap by Samsung after less than 12 months and no official JB or support theater.... Thanks to bodivas for the initial port to the P6810, I could then work from there with newer contributions.
They just ignore the GPL license to support devices for at min of 18 months. There are other OEM that refuse to provide full source too. What does Google do, nothing....
The only way is as you implied, to be proactive and help ourselves (and others) where skill/knowledge and time permit
Good modding !!
More than one way to skin a cat also....
I think they will have support for android L since the specs of the tab S match the requirements of the OS
it's easier for samsung to develop android L for exynos device . i hope my tab will have android L teeheehee
On which webpage provide SAMSUNG there (patched) opensource?
At least recovery image include binary which can't compiled from android source...

@AdamBs
Great Job mate. Did you compile it yourself?
...
Hi AdamBs,
I tried both your methods.
First i tried to flash the update.zip through mi recovery and i got the error that the package is not digitally signed.
Then i tried the fastboot method and i got TWRP, but afrer reboot it went back to mi recovery.
Am i missing something?
Can you show log after installation rom? I have twrp from http://en.miui.com/thread-156838-1-1.html , also I tested twrp from http://en.miui.com/thread-152550-1-1.html and so it looks (screen).

Hope it could be fixed soon. For now only recovery which reboots properly is http://en.miui.com/thread-156838-1-1.html, others I tried (didn't try this before link was removed) freezes on reboot and I have to remove battery. But that one should be flashed using PC.
BTW: should this still belongs to original development thread, it seams like unnoficial TWRP port, right?

Is this method ok? As i plan to use this when my phone arrives, install is pretty simple, put the file on phone and install from updater.

Thanks dude. I unzipped just the recovery image and usesd flashify to, um, flash it. That allowed me to make a nandroid backup before I started experimenting with an alternate ROM. I'm so glad I did that because it turned out that Xiaomi's internal backup app doesn't work properly. It didn't restore my contacts, my appointments and some other things. It was really great to use TWRP to return to the setup I had this morning before experimenting with so little hassle After I was done I just did a dirty flash of my current ROM over the top to restore the original recovery.
What about Redmi Note 2 opensource? We able to get kernel sources or even build device tree for any AOSP based ROM? Newer look into MTK before.
P.s. For now wait untill I get my device.

I have to mention you that DMCA would takedown the source if you caught any notice.

Technically they could request I remove it but it's GPL despite mediatec claiming it's closed source. No matter how much posturing they do I don't think there is much they can do to enforce it. As to the source no it's not from Zopo only these devices use the MT6795

About
The WinDroid Toolkit is a Windows program built in Visual Studio using the C# programming language that simplifies the rooting process for many Android devices. The toolkit makes it easy to unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery and gain permanent root. It also includes other functions such as flashing kernels, pushing files and installing apps. If you find it helpful, give me a thanks and a donation if you can. If you find a bug or have a feature request, feel free to leave a reply. Thanks!

Nope, this tool is an AiO toolkit for many many models, the developer used his standard text when he opened the thread (understandable ). So probably you will be able to unlock the BL, but you won't be able to relock it, as there is no procedure known at the moment.

Very nice program.Thanks.
Nice tool man glad I found this helped me a lot used it to unlock my bootloader after I downgraded and flashed twrp for it thanks man much appreciated
I tried this toolkit and I don't seem to be able to make it work. Other than being unlocked, in the fastboot mode, it says the bootloader version is unknow, that the signing got a "?" and same thing about the secure boot. There is a blue line saying "continue the fastboot process" as if something wasnt completed. If I launch into recovery I get an installation icon then an error.
Thanks for your help.

[Flashable ZIP] New Android O DP2 emojis and fonts

Hello, guys!
I've downloaded the latest Android O developer preview and extracted the new emojis (and fonts) from it so you can get it on your Android 5+ device. Just flash it and voilá! I don't particularly like them (too Apple-ish), but I suppose some of you might want them.

The bootanimation I found in the Nexus 6P image is the same as always, nothing new (the Google logo turning into spinning circles and lines, then forming the word "Android"). As for the sounds, I don't really know, since I can't remember the originals. And, lastly, I don't have enough knowledge to port the latest Pixel Launcher, sorry.
Do you have fonts.xml and fallback_fonts.xml coz without those, new fonts won't work.
Latest EmojiOne looks mutch better

You at least need a custom recovery and root. This "O" emoji pack is a flashable zip file that has to be flashed in custom recovery, like TWRP.
Some phones like LG G2 and LG G3 can be rooted and custom recovery installed without unlocking the bootloader -- but phones like Motorola require the bootloader to be unlocked to install a custom recovery and root. I do not know about Asus phones.
_____
Thank you @Shooting Star Max for providing these. Wonder if there's been any changes since mid-May, with the newer beta releases of "O"? I haven't kept up. Also wonder if the final version (after "O"is formally named... Oreo, Orange Sherbet, Oatmeal Cookie?) will be any different.

New ZUK Z2 Pro user needs help?

Hi, i have just bought a Z2 Pro and i have a few questions on what's the best setup i can do with it and put onto it. I think i have the international ROM on the device as it came with Google Play store and it has plenty of languages to choose from.
In Settings/About it states it has Android 6.0.1 and ZUI Version 2.3.044 ST on it.
I cannot for the life of me find how to check if there is an update for the ZUI on the phone so i am wondering how i can go about updating the firmware without voiding any warranty. I have limited experience in rooting phones and i would like to see if i can live with the latest ZUI version before delving into custom ROM'S to be honest.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to upgrade the official international firmware for the ZUK Z2 Pro?
Regards
Stuart
it seems you've an unofficial vendor ROM
so you need to unlock bootloader and then flash with QFIL tool proper stock ROM or custom ROM (GizRom Nougat 7.x).
you will find all infos here: zukfans.eu/community/forums/zuk-z2-pro.4/
Thank you for clearing it up for me. I will look into bootloaders and flashing a ROM version onto it to get a more up to date version of android.

I managed to update to the latest ZUI but if i am honest it's not to my liking as half of the apps and writing is in Chinese so it's got to go.
I am now looking at how to put a custom Nougat ROM on that doesn't have many problems on the Z2 PRO. I believe i will have to figure out how to root the phone and possibly unlock the bootloader before flashing.
Are there any guides in how to flash a custom ROM on this site and what would be considered the best ROM to use?

I followed this guide which worked fine for unlocking the bootloader and rooting : https://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z2-pro/how-to/howto-install-mokee-7-1-1-unofficial-t3582686
Except instead of flashing Mokee, I recommend flashing this version of AICP : https://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z2-pro/development/rom-aicp-12-1-n-zuk-z2-pro-t3596836 . It's not officially supported by AICP but it's the only one I found where everything works perfectly, including customizing the U-touch gestures, and it comes with Magisk to manage root which is nice I think. Just don't forget to deactivate the 3 Chinese apps that are bundled with the ROM.
