[Q] Is there any way to boot to Stock Boot Recovery without flash Stock Rom? - X2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have trouble while installing 2.1 update with CWM recovery (can not install .zip file). I hear that we must use Stock Recovery to install Nokia update; I've installed many apps + been lazy for backup all their data files so I don't want to flash the Stock Rom. Is there any way to flash Stock Boot Recovery only?
I've found some .img files in RM-1013 Rom folder, their names are "user_boot.img" and "user_recovery.img",do these files handle Stock Boot + Stock Boot Recovery?
<sorry for my English>

Yes, you can use user_recovery.img and flash it to your phone using fastboot.

Thanks man :good:, I've updated to 2.1 but my X2 is unrooted now :crying: so I'm planning to update a custom file by modifying the 2.1 patch downloaded from Nokia. Although I've read many threads about modifying/creating a flashable .zip file (use Stock Boot Recovery to flash), I'm not be able to do it; it requires coding knowledge (editing scripts in META-INF, binary... blah blah) :crying:
Can you help or suggest me anything about this?
The link to patch file can be found in a catalog.xml file which would be deleted after update; I found this file in both phone memory and sd card while downloading patch file by using phone updater, it is attached below.
Here is the link to my patch file (signed with my product code)
h--ttp://download.update.nokia.com/public/p/d/fds_swupdate/1408/1518/4030/145209948/RM-1013_FOTA_2.0.0.11_2.1.0.11_059W0W0_001_001.diff.zip
My wish is I could install google apps and (maybe or not) keep the su binary to keep Device rooted by this method.
Sorry for bothering you, I'm just a curious user wants to understand my Android device and I know you're master at this :good:
Wating your reply Dom.

I can help you with that. But why don't you update and then try the same method again to root? That'll be quite easy, my friend.

Because there is noway to root a 2.1 X2 now :crying:

It is so boring for me looking at a non-(saved)game X2 xD
I'd better downgrade to 2.0 and wait, ty Dom. :good:

There is a much easier way. Flash CWM Recovery for X2 and flash any superuser recovery zip from the internet. Try it.

Thank you Dom but there is no hope for this 2.1 update

Thers is a CWM Recovery works well on X2 2.0 but it doesnt work on 2.1 update.
I've tried to use adb to flash .img file but adb cant find my device :v. I've installed all X2 drivers, the phone is detected well, all components are installed but adb usb composite driver is not listed in device manager, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
I've tried connecting my device to a Windows 8 PC, after installing driver pack used on Win7 my X2 is detected well but adb usb composite driver is still not installed, Win 8 detects 1 new device more than in Win 7 but there is no driver for it in driver pack
I used Google Usb Driver pack (downloaded by SDK Manager) and Nokia X usb driver pack.
No hope for this 2.1 update :v
Now I'm reading about .zip files usable with Stock Recovery :crying:

I know that issue. Basically, Nokia drivers havent been updated.
But there is a way. Send me the link to the device drivers for X2.
Next, Open Device Manager and you'll see a yellow exclamation mark beside your device name.
Open your device and click properties. Then goto Detail and search for Compatible IDs something.
Send me those IDs and I'll update the drivers for you.
Feel free to PM me.

U're sweet Dom

As I said my PC OS installed all components from driver pack (as it can) and doesn't see any new device (there's not any symbol in the device list manager :crying. I might switch to Windows 8 if want to see it (Win 7 sucks :v).
I thought about this way to root 2.1 X2:
1. Root it at 2.0
2. Back up Supersu with ZIPme (app from who creates Busybox + Rom Toolbox, I think it's safe :v) so I can use it with Stock Recovery
3. Unroot
4. Update to 2.1
5. Recover Supersu
Do you think it works?
If I could use adb, it wouldn't be this complex. Ty again Dom :good:

Help on retail 2.3.6 backup, root, unlock then to CM7.1

Hi All,
1. Will unlock the bootloader wipe out the phone? If so how to root 2.3.6 without losing data?
I want to backup my data in the N1, then do flash the CM7 mod onto that.
It's in retail 2.3.6, I want to backup my data first.
sms, did with sms backup and restore.
call logs and bookmarks, how I backup them?
apps, want to backup with titanium backup, but hasn't root the phone yet.
I found the root guide for 2.3.6 here
https://bexton.net/2011/10/12/bexboot-root-nexus-one-passion-grk39f/
But it wants me to unlock the bootloader first, unlock the bootloader will wipe the phone so I will lost my data right?
apps can be redownloaded, so how I backup my call logs and bookmarks without root (yet)?
--
another question is I see the note for the latest N1 CM7 build is
'The latest radio is needed to run CyanogenMod 7'.
I can see my phone already has baseband of 5.08.00.04, do I need to do anything related to the radio while I flashing CM7?
Regards,
Sorry, there is NO way to back up your data if you are on 2.3.6 with a locked bootloader and without root.
I'm on stock 2.3.6.
Tried using the bexboot method, but it goes through all the steps and does nothing.
The bat file at the end doesn't reboot my phone or root.
I have also tried downgrading my device, but every time i go into fastboot, it says I have the wrong img file, or the file can't be found. I have properly renamed the file and put it on my sd card. no luck.
please help

Sry for the late response, but i've been on a business trip. The issue with my first version of bexboot was, that it was compiled from a heavily "prestressed" system with lots of modifications. Thus i rebuilt the boot image from a complete clean source.
So if somebody is still looking for an "idiot-proof" way to root a Nexus One on stock GRK39F, check out the updated version release of Bexboot v2.0 what have been confirmed working from people who had issues with v1:

What is the advantage of doing this, if all you have to do is flash a custom recovery and flash this from recovery??

Hey Efrant,
well, actually there is no big difference. But if i should find some, maybe:
A) ALL-IN-ONE
* It comes packed with all you need.
* There is no need to have the SDK installed before using it.
* You don't need to flash a custom recovery before using it.
B) STOCK
* As you don't need a custom recovery to flash it, you also don't need to overwrite any of the original stock ROM files. So actually your system stays completely untouched.
C) UP-TO-DATE
* It installs the latest versions of Superuser APK / su binary, rather than the linked ones.
The bottom line: Actually it was built for "beginners", to provide a simple to use method to root a stock ROM. You can download a zip archive, connect an untouched, never used/modified stock phone to a computer, type two/three commands in a terminal window, the phone reboots, you have root and the system is still pure stock. That's what it's all about..
Cheers!

Thanks for the explanation. Good work.
But just to address some of your points:
A) ALL-IN-ONE:
if you don't install the SDK, you still need to install the fastboot and ADB drivers anyway - there is no difference between using this method or any other method, i.e., either the SDK or the drivers themselves have to be installed for your device to be recognized by the computer.
B) STOCK:
flashing a custom recovery on a stock ROM does not really overwrite anything, because once you boot your device, the stock recovery is automatically flashed back by the ROM.
no ROM files are touched by flashing a custom recovery.
C) UP-TO-DATE
I linked to the wrong thread in my post.. oops I meant to link here: http://androidsu.com/superuser/

Well, as said: actually there's no big difference. And yeah, indeed you're right about the recoveries. But to address one of your (/my) points:
The SDK is an application package that needs to be installed.
Fastboot, as well as the ADB are standalone executables; there is nothing to be installed. These executables are just a tiny part of the whole SDK Package. There's no need to download and install all the SDK Package, if you'd need just the adb, the fastboot and the drivers. Thus you'd save at least some time (and bandwith).
Also, when i'll include the install script tomorrow (as it has been with v1), it will reduce the number of commands you have to type in the terminal to two.
So the bottom line: eventhough you're right about (almost all of) your contras, if you'd need to start with an untouched phone and computer it's definitely faster - and i think, also just simpler - to do it "my way".
But.. anyway.. it's the same way.

[Q] Problems rooting Samsung Galaxy mini GT-5700I (Phone not detected in Odin)

*NOTICE* Samsung Galaxy GT-5570i mistake in title :S
Hi
Okay so the problem is my Samsung galaxy mini doesnt get detected by Odin v.4.85 but it gets detected in v.1.85. I've tried restarting the phone many times. All settings are set in the "Application" and USB debugg. All usb drivers are installed 100% with Samsung Kies.
Also tried reinstaling the drivers and other versions it still didnt work. Its 100% not the USB cable cuz it works perfectly fine when out of download mode and Kies recognizes the device.
I've tried rooting it with SuperOneClick also , that one gets stuck on one line...I've also tried through recovery mode but it didnt work either i got error, and interrupted.
Also a question : Is it possible to get clockworkmod and root without using Odin?
In any case theese info are needed:Android version is 2.3.6(i did not install this one it came with the phone) , Baseband version 25570IXXKL4, Kernel Version 2.6.35.7([email protected] #1), Build Number GINGERBREAD.IXXKL4

I not have understand if you have rooted or not? if not, before of flash from recovery you must rename the package zip for rooting in update.zip or upd_1.zip (this should be right for your firmware) and then go in recovery and do apply update from sdcard and should works, if not if you not rename the package not works.

[Q] getprop errors while installing a ROM via CWM?

6.0.2.8 .... I before tried the thing from the CWM thread, with this warning of not working on V20 beta something, installed by an apk? That one was not bootable before and sort of rendered my phone dead, as it woul dnot boot into the installed LG ROM as well after I tried the install. I had to do an emergency reinstall of LGs own ROM with the LG Support Tool ... so I don't trust that CWM there ..... I'm not sure, which ones will work on my Euro P880.

they're compatible, but it's a hassle to make them work. you gotta reinstall your drivers every time you need to use S/W mode, and after you install, check device manager, some components are installed as unrecognized, you gotta update driver -> automatic search.
After you unlock your bootloader how to install CWM 6.0.3.1
Download the tool ,,
http://d-h.st/HFR
extract the folder
open the folder
find file with name: O4X_CWM.img
rename it to something else e.g. O4X_CWM_old.img
Download new cwm (i gave you link before, but here is another
http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-p880.img
put recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-p880.img file in the same folder as your renamed file (O4X_CWM_old.img)
rename recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-p880.img to O4X_CWM.img
Right click on "[All-In-One][P880].bat" choose run as administrator
The tool will ask you if you have the drivers ,, install them if you don't have .
The tool will show you 8 options .
In your phone go to Settings/Developer Options/Check "USB Debugging" ,,
then connect phone .
choose CWM Recovery option.
wait for complete
disconnect phone
Turn off phone
Turn on phone with vol down pressed.
It should load cwm 6.0.3.1
It worked on my phone, good luck
Whopeee ... operation successful! I can finally install the rom The touch feature of that CWM is reall yfantastic .. no more crazy volume button rocking. Thanks much!
To sum up what I did in short:
- Started with Euro 4.1.2 LG original ROM.
- Press Power/Vol Down to get into the tiny original blue Menu
- Chose install by ADB
- used the root package for 4.1.2 (small thing linked in here), just ran root.bat in a administrator cmd shell on windows --> rooted phone
- Unlocked phone using the cat & echo of the file named in here --> unlocked
- Used the all in one tool with the new CWM file to install the CWM
Now to check out those roms.... I hope one of them is sophisticated enough not to be a crazy battery eater and heat producer...
(man, these guessing games on which info on here is accurate every few months drives me completely crazy..... but in the end it's great)

awesome work bro:highfive:
Awesome work on bringing the recovery to this device , Although my personal opinion but the AMIGO UI on Gionee devices is crap . this is a step in the right direction to get rid of the proprietary UI & bring on some aosp goodness !!
Finally it is here..
Bought my device yesterday. 4200Mah is the reason i got this device. The stock Amigo UI sucks and i was looking forward to some custom ROMS. thanks for this recovery. Lets get to work and create our first custom AOSP ROM for this great device. :good:

Hey, congrats on the awesome work, just a few questions,
1) did you try making a full backup of stock ROM with this recovery?
2) did you try making a restoring a full backup of stock ROM with this recovery?
is it working perfectly?
3) could you make a guide on how to make a backup of stock ROM which can be flashed via PC using Smartphone(SP) tools? or better yet could you upload stock ROM that is flashable through smartphone tools (with instructions on how to flash please!)

I found it working in my device [4GB Gionee M2]. Actually I flashed it directly via SP Flash tools just by replacing it in the KITKAT stock ROM, even before rooting it.
[Knowing that its size does not exceed the limits of the recovery partition specified in the scatter file]
I found it working, Use it at your own risk.
It may also work with 8GB varients, but not checked by me.
:good: I hope you liked it.
after updating recovry img..when i boot into recovry mode it showing normal recovry mode?what to do?

To do so,
Put the extracted contents of clockworkmod.zip (clockworkmod\.aromafm ) into the respective folder of your sd card. This will enable aroma file manager in CTR recovery. File is attached for your ease, & not owned by me. Thanks to the original author of these files.
File manager path on your sd card: \clockworkmod\.aromafm (See the dot), Use PC card reader to extract the files into your sd card.
It needs root permission if you use phone's root file manager to copy & yet can be unsuccessful.
So it is better to use the pc to extract/copy the files to the memory card.
:good: I hope you liked it.

If you were not successful using mobile uncle tools in the phone interface,
Use PC to Flash recovery.img using sp-flash tools. (Please be aware of how to install required drivers etc..)
Select original scatter file of your version of ROM. If You are using stock ROM, Make sure that you have not altered the phone partitioning earlier.
Be careful and Remember to select/tick only 'recovery' in the list. You can also check preloader if you like. and select ONly 'download' button. (NOT firmware upgrade!). Connect your switched off phone to your PC. Wait till your task is complete. Shows tyou a green circle.
It works perfectly.
But Do it at your own risk without blaming anyone in the forum if you encounter any error.
:good: Hope you like it.

Yes it works, however, I rebuilt a newer version of the CTR recovery working fine with my 4GB Gionee M2 KitKat.
It may also work with 8GB varients, but not checked by me.
Download it from here;

@ net8
is it working with 32 gb sd card, while i create a recovery image with my new 32gb sandisk ultra microsd, the card gone bad. (formatted in mobile)
do you have CTR new version with zip backup option ?
It works with any microSD so far. Even I am using 32gb microsd from SanDisk class 10 uhs1.
There may be other issue with your device.

Getting Nougat onto Samsung GALAXY Tab 8.9 (GT-P7310) running Android 4.0.4

Hello Everyone,
I know this is an old tablet and mine works fine but there are so many apps i cannot run on it because it's so old.
For some reason when I go to recovery (power plus volume down) it only gives me options to install from cache or to install from SD card. My Tab doesn't have an SD card slot and I've tried many different things like putting the Google Apps file in an /sdcard folder but no luck. Maybe I need a better recovery that will allow me to install from OTA USB or from Internal storage, or directly from the PC.
I have never rooted a phone before or unlocked a bootloader, and maybe I'm missing a step, but no matter how many forum posts I check people seem to be able to run it from /sdcard which is simply not working for me.
Please help!
I've got the same issue here, and tried everything, from what you've said you've done to using command lines in adb fastboot, and nothing seem to bring me closer to write on the root of the device. Maybe with both of us asking here someone pops up to bring some light to this.
@saitar
Install the TWRP Recovery 2.8.7.0 or higher.

I don't know if this is still an issue for you, but I went further as nobody seemed to see the post.
I used this TWRP recovery, then flashed the lollipop rom here. But I stopped at the gapps... the only one I was able to flash was this one, but the keyboard isn't showing up. I tried the complete compilation and the flashing failed due to lack of space, although the device was plenty of it...

Thanks for replying. Yes, this is what I found out reading in xda and other forums, as the recovery I mentioned above is the 2.7.1.0, but is there a 2.8 recovery for the Tab 8.9, or should we be able to update the 2.7 to 2.8 without problems? Edit: I noticed in your post signature you got a 3.0 version on your device... how?
@saitar
Here are the link for TWRP https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ev-testing-twrp-galaxy-tab-8-9-p7310-t3469987
You can update your TWRP with the ZIP file from your existing Recovery or with Odin and the *.Tar file.

You're the man! th tar file didin't work, but I was able to flash the 3.0 TWRP, then flashed the Nougat version and the Gapps. Everything is working fine.
Thanks again!
Nougat update for i957?
Great to see the efforts here, kudos.
A naive question, whether this is going to work on my i957 currently on 4.0.4 ICS? If no, any recommendations for any latest ROM for i957? Being on 4.0.4, a number of apps have started causing issues, support not being available.
If there's another thread I should post on, pls suggest the same.
Thx
