Installation Instructions:
U need to already have updated to 6.5.27 stock rom either full flash or update ota.
Because zenfone 4 got no custom recovery yet so this is meant to be flash from pc/laptop so u need to have pc/laptop.
Backup your data eg contact, sms, calendar, photos etc.
U need to install Intel android driver.
U need to have adb and fastboot tool, can download from my link below. Just extract the archive, ADB_FASTBOOT.7z somehere in root of drive eg in C or D.
Extract the rom, u will get system.img around 1gb in size. Put it in the same folder as adb and fastboot above.
Boot phone into droidboot mode by pressing volume up+power button together.
Connect phone via usb cable.
Open the adb and fastboot tool folder and double click on OPEN.CMD. Windows terminal will open.
Type in the terminal to erase cache
Code:
fastboot erase cache
and press enter.
Type in the terminal to erase data
Code:
fastboot erase data
and press enter.
Type in the terminal to erase system
Code:
fastboot erase system
and press enter.
Now to flash system, type in the terminal
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
and press enter. Flashing system would take around 10minutes.
After success flash system, if u want root need to flash supersu. Download and put ASUS_ZENFONE_ROOT.zip in the adb and fastboot folder and type in terminal
Code:
fastboot flash update ASUS_ZENFONE_ROOT.zip
and press enter. Phone will reboot automatically and will flash the root zip, then it will reboot again into system. First boot would take longer to generate dalvik etc.

actually i'm not really into roms, more into kernels. thats why the rom is just deodex and few changes only, no new added features. hated smali editing.
been waiting far too long for asus to unlock zenfone 4 bootloader so that i could compile kernel myself.

Thank you for your contributing in zf4.
I have one question;
How can I revert back to stock firmware?
Can I flash a full stock f/w directly via droid boot menu [sd download]?

Not sure about sd download option in droidboot, never use it before but what i always did to get to full stock is by downloading full rom zip from asus server, extract it to get another zip, copy it into internal memory via usb cable and when removing usb cable will get notification to update.

You are welcome , ok ty i will add it
Only because this isn't obviously stated:
TWRP does see your external sd card. That being said, those of you who are already rooted can download these files (su and twrp fix zip) to your external sd card. Also use titanium backup for your apps and save to that same sd card. When you format storage, you can install fix and su from the untouched sd card. Once you're booted and set up, use titanium backup to restore your apps.

I was able to access the internal storage in TWRP at this point. You can check it by going to Install ---> Select Storage ---> Internal Storage.
EDIT: Do you mean how can you copy the zip files to the Internal Storage while still inside of TWRP?

Help a Noob: Rooting and installing ROMs

I recently started playing pokemon go and I am getting really frustrated while playing because it lags soo much and my phone is generally quite slow now. I have been told rooting and installing a good ROM can help with this and I have never attempted this, could someone please explain what rooting and ROMs are and their benefits and a how to guide for this phone and also the best ROM?
I know there are loads of threads on this but if someone could link me best threads I would be eternally gratefull!!
First of all, which variant of LG L90 is your phone (D4xx)? And could you go to Menu > General > About Phone > Software Information and tell me your "version" (v10x or v20x)?
Root is the ability for the user to take total control of his phone, from doing as little as automate 3G activation when an app is open to instaling custom ROMs, which are custom firmwares that you can install in your device, just like the stock one you're currently in, but with some modifications made by its creators. As for advantages, with root you have more freedom over your device, and with Custom ROMs you have some tweaks, which change depending on the ROM you choose to install, going from just porting newer firmwares to older devices to being an entire new OS (Operational System, in case you don't know).

Thank you soo much for your reply and sorry about my late reply. My variant is LG-D405n and software version is V20c-234-30. I think I understand what Root and ROM is thx.
So could you link me to the best method to root and install ROM on my phone?
And what is the best ROM for my device to free up the RAM and CPU used on my device to increase my phone speed?
First of all, install these required apps:
http://king.myapp.com/myapp/kdown/img/NewKingrootV4.9.6_C151_B309_en_release_2016_08_18_105203.apk (For rooting)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify (For flashing the Custom Recovery)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm (For terminal emulation)
Custom Recovery:
TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=18679&task=get
Personally recommended Custom ROM, CyanogenMod (Ports Android updates to older phones plus some tweaks) and Gapps (Google Apps, it's needed to have things like calculator, play store, etc):
CM13: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/175208/cm-13.0-20160820-SNAPSHOT-ZNH5YAO0J8-w7.zip
Gapps: http://opengapps.org/ (Go to this link, select ARM in platform, 6.0 in android and Nano in variant, then just click the download image button)
Put the TWRP img, the CM13 rom img and gapps on microSD or internal storage. Open Kingroot and click on the green button after the 3 introduction images. After a few minutes, your device will be rooted. Grab this file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...0w7xxshoxx-t2826150/post54358527#post54358527 (D405n_v20a_patched_aboot, don't worry, it's okay if you flash a different software version aboot as long as it's the same device as yours. The only "problem" you can have is to have your software version changed to v20c, which if I remember correctly, can be fixed using Bootstacks), transfer it to your phone and open Terminal Emulator. Then input the following commands:
su
dd if=(aboot.bin storage directory) of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
Then, go to flashify and flash your custom recovery image (TWRP or CWM) in the flash recovery img option. After this, reboot into recovery by pressing Volume Down + Power and when you see the LG Logo, let go of the Power button and press it again. Then select yes two times with the volume keys for selection and power button to actually select the options (Don't worry, your device won't be factory resetted if you successfully installed custom recovery). Then, if you want, make a backup of your entire phone (recommended, just in case something goes wrong or if you just want your apps back when the process is done) in the Backup section and then do a factory reset through the Wipe option (Don't select anything, just swipe the bar). Select the Install option and select your ROM zip. After this, do the same process as the ROM installation but this time with Gapps zip. There you go, now you have CM13 installed. If you want root again, you don't have to install Kingroot again this time, as CM13 has built-in root, just enable Developer options and activate root and you're ready to go. Also, if you want the apps you had before the installation, just restore your backup (ONLY THE DATA PARTITION, otherwise CM13 will be uninstalled and replaced with stock ROM). If something goes wrong and you accidentally brick your device, just reply and I'll help you fix it. (If helped, click the Thanks! button)

You have to change "(aboot.bin storage directory) with the directory in which aboot.bin is stored. And no, you don't need SuperSU, when you use the su command, a KingRoot window will open, just say yes.
EDIT: Wahay! It works! Thank you soo much for your help!
EDIT 2: I can't seem to find the option to edit my recent button in settings. What can I do?

If it's the menu button, I don't know of any way to change them, as Android updates change them. For example, my phone in KitKat used the home button for recent apps, in Lollipop it used the menu button for recent apps, and when I installed CM13, it used the home button again.
EDIT: Browsing LG L90 xda, I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/themes-apps/mod-button-remaps-l90-t3145146

First of all, you don't need to use that TWRP build, you can use the latest one. To fix the only errors that should appear (Updater error 7 and 6), delete the first lines of updater-script until you reach the ui_print part (the first line of your file should be "ui_print("Target: 1471683591");"). Also, delete any double spaces that exist (there should be two, one before "abort" at line 27 and the other before "abort" at line 30). If it still gives the same error, try wiping Cache, data, system and dalvik-cache partitions, try to install the ROM, it'll give the error. Now, reboot your phone and try to install without wiping anything. (To properly see the line indications, open the file using Notepad++)

TWRP, ROOT and disable Encryption for Yoga Tab 3 Plus (YT-X703F/L)

TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.
A custom recovery is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM

WARNING!!! Be careful what you do here. One mistake and the device is soft-bricked. I take no responsibility for bricked devices, lost warranty or even OTAs not working!! Booting and/or flashing files from this post is on your own risk.
Requirements
Unlocked bootloader
Yoga Tablet 3 Plus with and without LTE (YT-X703L and YT-X703F) are supported
Known Issues
WARNING! Our device uses dm-verity (verified boot). The system partition should remain read-only. Otherwise a bootloop will occur. You can flash my modified kernel or SuperSU to resolve this but OTA's are no longer possible! You have to restore a factory image or clean system backup to receive OTAs
Potentially DRM keys are lost! Pure unlocking and rooting does not cause the issue. However, there have been reports of lost DRM keys by some unknown action. It is advised to act with caution. Losing your DRM keys can lead to issues with some apps which use DRM which could then have limited or no functionality. E.g. Netflix will only stream in SD (480p). You can check with DRM info if you still have L1 security level which means DRM keys are intact.
Download
Official TWRP for YT-X703F (Wifi): twrp.me
Official TWRP for YT-X703L (LTE): twrp.me
Instructions
Install fastboot and adb on your PC, e.g. from here
Enable developer options and in there select to unlock your bootloader by enabling OEM unlock and enable USB debugging
Connect your PC to your tablet and run
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
using adb on command line. The tablet will reboot into bootloader mode where you will only see the Lenovo logo. Now you use
Code:
fastboot oem unlock-go
to unlock. This will factory reset your device
Setup the tablet again and reboot again to the bootloader
Then run
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-yt_x703f.img
to temporarily boot into TWRP. You can also flash if you are sure
Select to keep system read only when TWRP starts to avoid modification which will make OTAs impossible
Optionally flash SuperSU or Magisk in TWRP which should install system less. Keep OEM unlock enabled if you flash or modify anything

System Updates (OTA)
In order to successfully apply Lenovo system updates after root you have to restore the original boot, recovery (if you flashed TWRP) and system partitions from your current installed version (e.g. S000744) for your variant of the tablet. This will NOT delete your apps and data but will unroot. Note that OTAs are block based and always check the contents of most of the partitions. This means that all of these partitions (except your data) have to be original and have to be on the exact same version (e.g. S000734) for the update to succeed.
See here for instructions how to restore the partitions with fastboot.

Thanks buddy! You are an absolute champion! Tell me what you need me to do and I'll do it before rooting and up load what you need.
Doing good work here.
Who wants to bet on a race between matshias and Lenovo support for who can fix the issues with this device first?
That's great and fast, I'm thinking tab 3 plus is getting hot now.
Great to see there is something moving for the yoga now. You think it will support the lte Version anytime? Or maybee even lineageos?
so you know, i've managed to install xposed thanks to this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268 and is working well.

Well if you haven't modified anything yet then it'd be great if you can boot into TWRP with system read only and then connect via ADB to the tablet with a big SD card inserted which has enough free space (4 GB).
The run the following command
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system of=/sdcard1/system.img
This will take a while. Then copy the file system.img from your SD card to a PC and zip it (or 7z, rar). Then upload it

The LTE variant is probably very similar and it wouldn't be much work. But I don't own the device, so I would need some help. So someone with the LTE variant who is not afraid to experiment with fastboot and adb and who can provide me with the details needed I am happy to compile a TWRP for it.
LineageOS is much much more work than TWRP. For an experienced cyanogenmod/LineageOS dev it is not much of a thing and would take only a few days, especially since it is a Qualcomm device and there are already ports for devices with SD 652. But for me this is new as well so it'll take much longer. As soon as I have time I'll look into it.

You forgot to tell me to go to adb shell :silly:
DD is currently doing a dump, non interactive so I hope it is still alive, it has been close to 1 hour so far. I will upload the clean image once it is done and await further instructions from you. :good:
I'm in Perth, Western Australia (UTC +8:00), so we might be playing timezone tag.

I think I forgot one more thing. The external SD card needs to be mounted in the TWRP menu. I believe it's not mounted automatically. So the DD command does nothing. It shouldn't take that long. Sorry about that!

If that's real it would have saved me a lot of time finding the loophole in the system to extract the boot and recovery image. But still a great find which will rescue some soft-bricked devices.

[Guide] [SM-T515] android 9 Install custom ROM'S and ROOT

SIZE="6"]Use this guide if your tablet is running on android 9. Android 10 is not covered in this guide[/SIZE]
Instructions:
Code:
* READ EVERTHING BEFORE YOU START OR ASK QUESTIONS
* I'm not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you. Hard & a lot. :D
I’m not an expert, I’ve just put some pieces together to achieve the following.
If you have problems, I’m not sure if I’m able to help you
You need to have some basic knowledge
Always have the correct software and backup all your data.
o Also download before you start the stock files, so that you are able to quickly reverse everything via: sammobile
Remember to backup your data!!!!
If you have trouble and the tablet is not working flash the firmware which you’ve downloaded via odin
Working ROMS (Which I’ve tested so far):
IF you want to install a custom ROM, you need to choose the correct custom ROM
Choose the ARM 32-bit with 64-bit binder AB (also known as A64B).
LineageOS 17.x GSI here
Legion ROM GSI here

Unlock bootloader
Hold Vol Up & Vol Down buttons during restart to enter Download mode
Install TWRP to AP with Odin
Hold Power & Vol Up buttons during restart to enter TWRP recovery
Install latest Multidisabler from TWRP
Wipe->Format Data
Reboot to system
Check if OEM unlock is enabled in the developer settings (it should be enabled and greyed out) IF so yeey you did It. If not start over.
Install custom ROM:
Well installing a custom Rom is quite easy .
Download a GSI ROM you like and put it on a SD cart
Go into TWRP
Select “install”
Click on “install image”
Click the on the ROM
In the next screen where we need to select the partition, select the “System Image”
Swipe to confirm

Extra’s install MAGISK and or install GAPPS
First of all download the files you want.
Magisk: here
GAPPS: here
You want root? You need to prepare the TWRP image yourself, simply use Magisk Manager to Select and Patch a File. Which we can prepare and flash after you finished the setup of the tablet. You need more info check the following: link
Go back to the TWRP home screen
Select “Wipe”
Select advanced wipe
Check “system”
Click on “repair or change file system”

o You should see “resizing… done.”
Go back to the TWRP home screen
Select “install”
Select the zip file(‘s) you want and flash them
o IF you receive an error if you want to install the GAPPS zip like “not enough space” go back and resize the system partition
o IF you receive an errro if you want to install Magisk, go back and resize the system partition
Remove “dalvik and cache”
Reboot system
Setup your tablet
Now for the last step to root the tablet all the way
Go into Magisk manager
On the Magisk dashboard you’ve should see that you have the latest version of magisk. Press on the “install” button at the right side
o Select “Select and Patch a File” select the TWRP IMG you still have on the SD card

If you have the “magisk_patched.img” go into TWRP and flash this IMG over the recovery
o Install
o Select “install image”
o Select the “magisk_patched.img”
o Flash it over the “recovery”
o Reboot system

Hi,
Thanks for the guide. Which ROM you recommend? Everything working for you (LTE modem etc)?
Can you now install 64bit apps from Google Play? Any chance you can check if the DJI Fly app is working on your SM-T515?

Thanks

Well, It's still a 32bit rom. I've tried to install the app but I'm unable (prob because the app is 64bit)
Everything works fine, I'm running the lineageOS ROM. I have a data bundle and I'm able to internet with it (if I want )

I thought that this custom ROM is 64bit
When I bought the TAB A I thought it's a bargain, I didn't know that I wouldn't be able to install 64bit apps.

first of all thanks for the great work.
Sorry if this is a stupid question , but before i brick my new SM-T515 I would rather ask the experts.
Now, i have rooted the stock ROM folowing the steps in https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root with no TWRP and want to install one of the custom ROMs you have tested.
will I lose root if flash the Legion ROM GSI?
if yes, can you please put some steps together to root and install TWRP?
i still have the “magisk_patched.tar" from the stock ROM, would that work for the Legion ROM GSI?

In theory it should work. I've already covered "root" also in the guide
I've followed the steps and have Lineage installed on my T515, but when I plug it into my computer it can't see the Tablet in Windows Explorer. I've set it to MTP mode and enabled USB debugging. Strange thing is when I use ADB DEVICES I can see it. Also when I plug it in, the tablet makes a sound and it says 'Usb Debugging...' on screen. It just won't show up in Windows.
Also when I try and use File Explorer on the tablet, it can't see the SD Card. I've tried formatting it for 'Portable' but it when I go back in it says it corrupted. When I format it for Phone Storage, it shows the extra space for the phone storage but I also can't see it in the File Explorer.
Anyone else come across this?

I haven't found one yet, I'm going to try go back to Stock as I need my computer to be able to see the tablet to transfer files over. I've tried installing the Legion custom rom and it does the same thing. I'm not sure but I'd love to get an answer to this and I'd love to use a custom rom.
Are there any other Android 10 roms that I could try?

I have a work app that need a little more ram: the solution is LineageOs (used 1,2gb vs 1,5gb of the stock rom) and I transfer files through recovery. I tried LegionOS but is full of bugs and file transfer doesn't work the same.
I'm back to stock and my computer and can see my table and the SD card is working fine. Its a shame as I'd love to use LineageOS but for now I'm stuck on stock.
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong so need some help please. I’ve installed TWRP and multidisabler. I’ve wiped the system cache data etc like I was flashing a custom rom.
I’ve downloaded the rom from the links flashed it via system image but I still get the message no os installed rebooted and just a bootloop saying unlocked boot loader press power button to start then nothing no booting image from linageos. Just repeats.
Can anybody tell me or guide me on what I could have done wrong and what what I should being

Mm strange I didn't experience this problem. Like I stated go back to stock and start over. This time don't wipe the system partition.
Thanks for the reply I will try that when I get home later in the day and will post the outcome after.
Are there any other roms the we could also try.

I followed what you said but I’m stilling getting the bootloop for some reason could share links of what rom you downloaded and etc.
Because there must be a mistake in making.
Also to what I’ve been reading is that I need something of treble enabler for the device but I really don’t know.

I finally managed to get LineageOS installed. I just deleted all the files and redone loaded them, returned back to stock and did the whole process all over again.
And it worked. ? ? so maybe somewhere down the line put have been a corrupt download or something.
Custom rom has whole different feeling on the tablet now. Thanks again for tutorial, I’ve been waiting for something like this for a while.
You don’t know of any other roms there out there to try?

Storage is partially fixed now.
For MTP, I compiled the kernel without Samsung MTP and it's Kinda working... adb can detect it now, but it still now showing on my computer
I need to add a proper init stuff for it
i was able to fix mount sdcard but i couldn't fix data im working on it
The encryption is really annoying
That was the best i could do. Data mounting is not working because of encryption. I couldn't find the key directory of the encryption. But you can flash from external sd.

The userdata decryption bug, does that mean it can't access the phone's storage in TWRP?

@LahKeda After installing TWRP and flashing Magisk, do I need to press power and volume up button every time I restart the phone to have Magisk root or can I boot it normally without pressing anything?

+1 would like to know too as the current root method patching boot.img with Magisk, you have to press power and volume up every time you restart the phone to keep root.
Thanks for the recovery. I have a question. Can I simply flash this via odin (no stock firmware download required) and it will work? I'm asking because in the other twrp thread there is a requirement of downloading and flashing stock firmware. The firmware for my region hasn't released yet.
