Unlocking Screen with dim display

I have tried searching for the answer to this so please do not ridicule me if i missed it!
Is there a way of stopping the screen from being so dim when i press the power button to wake up device if it is locked.
I always lock the device when i am not using it and will quite often press the power button quickly to turn off the display. When i come to use the phone etc i press the power button to get the screen back then press unlock at the bottom of the screen then the unlock half way up the screen, phone unlocked. BUT when the power button is pressed to turn the screen on and the phone is still locked the screen is so dim i cannot see it in bright daylight. Is there a way of making the screen brighter so i can unlock it?
David
simple answer YES!
The registry key here controls the backlight lock level:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
There REG_DWORD Key called LockLevel can be set between 0-10 (0=0%, 10=100% locklevel backlight brightness)
The system defaults this setting to 0, hence the dim lock display.
I have found however that the value does not stick after a soft reset/reboot, and goes back to default, so i have set a startup .lnk file that runs a reg script to set this value silently on boot for me.... you can do this yourself using the latest taskmanager 2.9 from here: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm (/silent command line parameter was only added in v2.9 so i can run a reg script without the prompts!)
I like to have a bright pin/unlock screen as i like to use the screen as a torch/light by just pressing the power button!!
Enjoy.
Thanks!!
Thanks for the answer to that. I too have been having the same problem, and it has bugged the hell out of me, especially on those bright summer days .
Thanks heaps for that!!!
Sorry for the delay, but many thanks for the answer! Damned annoying that was.
Regards
David
How do i make this .lnk file? What should it say? Where do i put it? etc etc. Sorry for the question but not done any of this before. The reg edit was easy enough but now i am lost.
Cheers
David

I also would like to do this, but havent figured out how to create a command line with TaskMgr that will execute at startup - would you share how it is done?
Also, when I set locklevel to any number other than 1, no dimming occurs when I lock my Tilt. I experimented because I thought I'd like a little dimming but not as much as the default - but it seems like it's all or nothing.
I hate the way the Kaiser and/or WM6 insists on spoonfeeding some settings to us, no matter how much we would like to permanently alter them!

BUMP - Anyone know how and what to do to make this .lnk file and then how to use it?
David
strange thing. When I adjust this value it messes with my backlight timeout. I normally have this set to 30secs, i.e. the screen goes dimmer after 30 secs. When I adjust the lockout value as described it goes dim after 5-10 seconds. am I doing this right? I wasn't sure if I had adjusted the value correctly.

I have searched all over can someone tell me how to get the \silent to work I have taskmanager v2.9 spent the last 2 hours trying to get this to work please give a bother some help
I think the answer is here...well, not an answer but at least an app that claims to do what you're looking for.
This answer may be too basic, but have you tried changing the registry edit and then NOT doing a soft reset, but instead doing a full power off/on? Some registry entries WON'T stick with a soft-reset, but will with a power cycle. The power cycle gives the OS a heads up that it's being turned off and writes things more permanently...

I always power cycle after a reg change (It forces a registry write and a SR doesn't) but it doesn't matter...this reg change doesn't stick after a power cycle for some reason.
EDIT:
BTW, I loaded BrightLock and it works perfectly.
Excellent seems to do what i needed!!! Cheers

I am experiencing a similar issue. My normal backlight on battery power is set to 1 minute, but after installing brightlock, it keeps changing to 10 seconds. I really like what brightlock does for me, but not at the cost of dimming the screen when I am trying to read something. Is there a configuration I am missing?
I think I got rid of this annoying “dim” problem without .lnk file and scripting.
See my next post.

I think I got rid of this annoying “dim” problem without .lnk file and scripting.
What I did is the following:
1. Downloaded and installed Taskmanager 2.9 from: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
2. Opened Taskmanager and went to Regedit
3. Deleted LockLevel folder from HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
4. Saved
5. Rebooted the phone.
After rebooting, system recreates LockLevel folder, however, “dim” problem is gone.
Unit still dims the screen, but pressing any key triggers the bright display.
Suggestion: Export registry and backup your device before playing with Regedit.
can some one please re-post brightlock? mediafire link seems to be done and this is doing me nutter

keyboard sensitivity

Guys,
There's something bugging me.
Is it somehow possible to define the keyboard sensitivity, mainly the delay before a key is repeated?
I keep having keys typed several time when using the keyboard and it's bloody irritating...
Help greatly appreciated
Matt
Yes, it is possible. Under settings go into "Buttons" and than to the "Up/Down Control tab. If I'm not mistaken the Delay and repeat rate you define there is goes not just for the up/down buttons but for the whole hardware keyboard as well. HTH.
There is a reg edit. HKCU/Control Panel/Kebd/InitialDelay.
I set mine to 300. Found this today on another thread...
thanks a lot
i'll try that

Proximity Sensor Light Off

I have searched this forum for hours looking for a post which refers to turning off the proximity sensor lights on the hard buttons with no joy. I'm sure someone has asked about it but i cannot find any reference to it. Does anyone know how to do it? I'm sure it is a registry item but cannot find it. I would appreciate any help.
people are aware
i do hope someone is trying to fix this issue
Registry Changes For Proximity Sensor
I have experimented with changes to the Registry. There seem to be at least two Registry keys which affect the Key Lights. One is at
HKLM\Services\Keypad; it includes:
ActionDebounceTimeout
DisableGhostKeyDetect
DisableKeyLight
Dll
DisableKeyLight default is "0". When changed to "1" or "2", there is no effect on the KeyLight, but these changes interfere with the on/off switch operation.
If both DisableKeyLight and DisableGhostKeyDetect are set to "1" there is no effect on the KeyLight but interference with on/off switch.
ActionDebounceTimeout default is "100" any changes have no effect on the KeyLight but confuse the on/off switch.
If the Dll entry is changed to e.g. .xdll ALL buttons on the machine are disabled.
The second registry entry is at:
HKLM\Drivers\Builtin\KeyLight which includes:
Dll
Flags
IClass
Index
Order
Changes to Order have no effect on the KeyLight
Changing the Dll entry to .xdll TURNS OFF the KeyLights but ALL Brightness control is lost. Brightness is at Maximum and not changeable. Reset to .dll
Changing Index from "1" (default) to "0" TURNS OFF the KeyLights but ALL Brightness control is lost as above.
A Final try with HKLM\Drivers\Builtin\FrontLight yielded the following:
Changing the Dll entry to .xdll TURNS OFF the KeyLights but ALL Brightness control is again lost.
No other changes to \Frontlight\ appeared to have any effect.
I think there may be some entry or combination I have missed. Perhaps some other experimenter can find it. Since the KeyLights CAN be turned off, it may be that Brightness control can be restored in some way. Any help would be appreciated.

How to change the text input cursor appearance

I'd like to change the text input cursor width which is too small for me (only one pixel).
Is there any registry key to modify this setting ?
If not, how can it be done ?
This question may have already been answered but I don't find anything in the forum.
Thanks.
Nobody knows or it's impossible ?
The reg key should be in HKCU\ControlPanel\SIP, I tried adjusting "SuggWeight" from 0 up to 20, but no affect after soft reset.
You can try playing with some of the other keys, but make sure ypou back up your SIP registry first in case you screw something up.
I've tried several keys but no success.
Does anybody knows ?
Try these:
HKLM\\System\GWE\CursorFrameCount
HKLM\\System\GWE\CursorFrameInterval

Back button simulation, for righthanded

Our phone has back button on the bottom right side of the phone, thus making the phone use with right hand only very unpleasant, mostly in news reading apps where back button is used often when going back to the front page.
Is there any software button simulation app where I could position the back button somewhere in the bottom middle?

by adding some line (i forgot what it was ) to build.prop, u can enable on screen keys.
something like-
<something >. hardwarekeys=0
then, in settings (settings/system i think)
u can rearrange them...

It sounds good, I'll take a look into it. But I don't want to disable hardwarekeys, I want all hw keys and just 1 sw key (back)...
To enable and use Onscreen buttons...
@jazzh,
Yep, you can you can use on-screen buttons BUT it will take/reserve some part of your screen's display.. that's why I don't use it BUT you can give it a try..
Just download the app build.prop editor and add this line at the end of your build.prop:
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
(make sure to keep an empty line at the end of your build.prop, otherwise you will get a bootloop)
To disable it, simply remove the line above or set the value to "1"
3 MORE THINGS:
- This is what it will look like...
- You can resize the on-screen buttons BUT that will require you to modify your framework-res.apk
- I just found out about this app.. this will allow you to enable or disable on-screen buttons easily but its made for Xperia devices, so I am not sure whether it will work or not...

i don't think it disables the hw keys. it just enables the onscreen keys.
Even better: u can use pie controls if u add that line to build.prop

Thank you all guys!
I added the line at the bottom and rebooted and... voila, soft keys are up and running.
Now, I didin't see anywhere not in the settings>system where these buttons can be adjusted. It would be nice if there is autohide option or something. Remember, I need only back soft key to be in the bottom middle or bottom left?
Then I installed pie control app, this works too but it doesn't have the option of autohiding softkeys at the bottom.
Is there something else I could try, I just need back software button elsewhere then bottom right corner and not all the time. Can it be achieved?
Thx again for helping...

No mate you cannot directly edit the on-screen button's configurations and functions from Settings.. you need to decompile and modify certain files in your framework-res.apk.. I guess it will be too complicated for you to do all that - so it would be better for you to not try it now and end up getting a bootloop (no offence)
The only reason why I don't use on-screen buttons is because of this only.. It takes up screen's space and there is no auto-hide option...
And which Pie Control app did you install? Give this is a try if you still haven't tried it... As far as I know, Pie controls only appear when you tap and hold on a certain part of your screen...
If you don't want to use your on-screen buttons then just remove the line from your build.prop or set its value to 1... And if you don't want your phone's capacitive buttons to light up then you can turn that off from Settings > Display > Touch key light duration and set it to "always off".. It won't disable them BUT it will not light them up..
I tried exactly the same pie control app you've posted, found it by searching.
But I also uninstalled it afterwards, pie is working fine but I can't auto hide soft keys at the bottom, so when pie is active and visible, soft keys at the bottom are also visible. Which is not what I wanted at the 1st place.
So at the end I commented the line in build.prop and reverted to the way it was before, cause A) space is more important to me, and B) soft back key is again on bottom right.
In the meantime, if someone runs into solution for simulating only back key with adjustable position... kindly let me know...
