[Kernel] TRIM: Speeding up the Galaxy Note n7000 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Android Development

Brickbug Aftermath: Speeding up the Galaxy S2 i9100, S2 AT&T i777, S2 Epic 4G Touch d710 and Note n7000
UPDATE: CM 12.1 kernels are now available!!! (for CM 12.1-supported platforms only: i9100 and i777.) new kernels are rom-independent: they are no longer tailored to specific official CM builds (they might work with other roms too) and their names no longer reference a specific CM build.
UPDATE: this project now supports all roms and kernels!
if you are not running CyanogenMod M snapshots, please see this post.
this project restores TRIM capability to CyanogenMod kernels for the Galaxy S2 family of 4210-based devices: i9100, i777, d710 and n7000. TRIM is needed to avoid "aging" of the state of the eMMC, the internal flash storage, that eventually slows the device to a crawl. TRIM functionality is built into android 4.3 and later. however, due to historical and safety concerns, TRIM capability was removed from the CM kernels for these devices (and from most if not all other AOSP-based kernels).
STOP!!! DRAGONS AHEAD!!!
in theory there could be risk of hard-bricking your device forever.

for the supported devices, you will find IsoRec-compatible CyanogenMod-based kernels here. (old kernels without IsoRec support can be found here. yet older retired kernels without FPBug fix are still available here.) note that for some supported devices, no releases or M snapshots are currently being produced. for those devices i can produce kernels based on known 'stable' nightlies if users ask.

Hi, could you perhaps make a kernel with these implementations but based on CM11/Omni? Any of the latest nightlies are "stable".

OHkay.. then i guess you should proceed and create a kernel.. its time we test them.. but will it improve speed by a huge margin or it is just a placebo?

It will vary from user to user, but if you have high I/O lags then yes, there will be a big improvement.

if u used CM and its kernel for long in your phone or ever used up most of the phone's storage since installing CM, it should make q big difference.

I've read about this beta 4 on its original thread, and looks like everything is really works.
but where's the download link?

kernel 3.0
Hi,
I wanted to know from the developers wether this is based on kernel 2.6.x or on kernel 3.x
I ask this beacuse I'm aware that it is not possible to compile the linux 3.x kernel for the armv6 architecture, but googling around I found that a patch has been created for the raspberry pi motherboard (which too integrates an armv6-compatible processor)
Here are some links:
SORRY BUT I CAN'T PUT EXTERNAL LINKS YET
(just google "Linux Kernel 3.1.9 for Raspberry Pi Released & Build Instructions")
Allright, the android kernel is highly customised, though, who knows, maybe this could help us galaxy mini users too!!
Maclaw is going to upload Beta4 today. Hope to use a stable Cm9.
Sorry, my English is not good

AOSP and AOKP based roms use the same Kernels but CM Based roms use different Kernels and will not work unless setup specifically for CM Roms.
This is 5.4 MB? Hmmm...need to see how it performs.
Tested this kernel. Overall snappy & fast with Ondemandx even at stock speeds. There is no bigmem support. This is very important for Nexus S due to low available memory. Screen colors look too yellow. This can be adjusted by user if Voodoo color is included. Inclusion of USB fast charge will give an added advantage.

I understand, looks like CM requires a kernel patch for this http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/23541/
I was unaware as it was tested on an aosp based rom
We made a decision here, we're not going to support CyanogenMOD officially.
We will update the OP accordingly, it's just not desirable to maintain 2 builds for 1 device. The kernel should be fully compatible with AOSP/AOKP, and will be the kernel bundled with the CrossBones rom.
If you wish to use this kernel on CyanogenMod, you may build a copy yourself using herring_zen_defconfig and setting CONFIG_FOR_CYANOGENMOD=y . Keep in mind unofficial builds won't be officially supported by us. Please when building an unofficial kernel ALWAYS SET CONFIG_ZEN_VERSION_CODE=0. While it may not have any affect now, it may affect some userspace apps.
The kernel source is located here: https://github.com/AndroidDeveloperAlliance/ZenKernel_Crespo
We also provide a custom prebuilt GCC toolchain you can use here: https://github.com/AndroidDeveloperAlliance/ZenKernel_ARCH_armv7a_compiler
Only official builds are supported!
Thanks

We're offering this to the community with no expectations that you use it, but for those who do use it we want them to be completely satisfied.
If it doesn't work for you, then I encourage you to use something from one of the other great development teams out there.
I thought of a couple solutions: 1.) creating 2 kernel builds, 2.) creating a sysfs interface so CM users could flash an init script that'd enable the CM ioctl's. Basically it comes down to this - neither solution is up to my standards for now.

Sorry to ask for this, I know I should install and test for myself the rom,
But I just would like to know how is the battery life on this rom?
What about the power button? Does it work properly? Because I had this issue on android 4.3 based rom's.
And the camera? Clear images and sharper?
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards from Brazil
By the way, in my opinion android 4.2.2 is the most stable atm

It's even easier for YOU to test it yourself. Backup your current setup and flash it. Most of the mentioned bugs aren't even for everybody and it is actually quite hard for the devs to make a full list of bugs which occur for every single user.
If you don't agree with that it's your fault. The devs are doing an awesome job here and they do it because they want to.

In my honest opinion, bugs should be on the OP if they are known bugs. It's a matter of structure and information. But that's just me
From what I understood, carbon is a "fork" from Liquid and I think it's a compilation from source and not a port, right? If so, is it possible to compile Liquid from source as well ?
This question is for someone who knows or a developer

No, they stated the following:
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. The team is composed of former members of Team Liquid who have forked the code in an attempt to bring greater speed, better coding, and full authorship to code. We are in no way affiliated with Liquid0624. The rom was forked at Liquid beta 3.2.1 and has since undergone major code changes and modifications.

And yeah, I agree, I'm pretty happy with CM10. 1.3. Although I do miss the privacy features from 4.3.

FPBug: Meet the very first stable kernel for the Galaxy S2 i9100, S2 AT&T i777, S2 Epic 4G Touch d710 and Note n7000 since Gingerbread days
Every single Android 4.x kernel for these devices has had a serious bug (FPBug) that randomly corrupts the state of processes, starting with Samsungs's stock ICS and JB and spanning every custom kernel out there newer than Gingerbread.

Hope this is not rude, but may I ask if you plan on releasing a kernel (or kernels) for non-CM-based ROMs? Or are you planning to let them devs themselves merge the fix, and only release CM kernels?

Does FPBug related somehow to kitkat overheating and random reboots?

Also try to do odex all apps, there is an unofficial odexed cm13 available for OP3 in xda forum, also, you can directly build with radon if you want, just clone radon-cm branch of my kernel instead of stock cm source.

I'll have a look into odexing during builds (idk if that's possible), but from past experiences, it does not really offer much, it just saves device storage space (which is why it was so heavily used back in 2010-2012 on those ~1gb internal storage devices lol)

If this rom uses radon kernel in-built for future builds.... It would be like a best rom+ will narrow down any bugs arising due to rom or kernel

As I discussed above, I might make a second build soon with Uber TC but optimizing all apks by hand literally takes me an entire 5-6 hours (of which I sit infront of my computer decompiling apk's and optimizing each and every .PNG inside of them then recompiling them and sending them to my device to make sure I have not messed up any graphics in those apk's, hence why this was built 23/8/16 but I only finished the optimizations by today.
