How will your Moto X look? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having a hard time choosing the looks. Although I prefer white phones, I think with an amoled screen black probably looks better, since it can make the screen look almost bezelless especially with darker background.
For the back I would like something durable and something which protects the phone in drops etc. I think leather or bamboo would be best suited but bamboo doesn't look good with a dark front and leather could scuff easily.
Anyway what are the ideas and experiences (with the original motor x) of you all?

i want to get the black front with black leather, but i read somewhere that the black leather is an in the store only option. i really hope not, i was thinking about some hints of blue.

Black with the cognac leather back. I'd prefer it in white but all the sensors being in black ruins the look for me.

I have a white face on the previous moto and this time I'll go black so it covers up all the sensors. As for the back, not sure. I have royal blue so I'll probably go a bit darker. I'm going to be a bit more bold on the accents instead of silver

is the white bad looking? this will be my first white face phone. it looked fine in pics, but that doesn't always translate in person. I am just wondering if those sensors will make the phone look aesthetically unpleasing
edit: I'm going for the black. like the user above me said, the sensors will be visible, so not that good. and black looks more classier

[Q] are all of the backs soft touch or not?

so search is still down. i know at the at&t store only a few of the backs are soft touch. but i have seen things here and there around the web that says they are all soft touch. since i finally got my code to replace my rma device, i am wondering if the bright colored backs are also soft/grippy. because i would much rather have one of those.
thanks for your input,
patrick
They are all soft touch but the colored ones are a little different than the kevlar. It is barely noticeable but the colored ones are a tad bit softer. All of them feel great though.

Just to clarify and prevent confusion, the weave backs on the Moto X is NOT kevlar. It's just a weave pattern, with a weave mesh on the inside to provide rigidity. Its material is made out of the same polycarbonate as the MotoMaker colored backs.

yah anandtech or some site like that said the weave is kevlar. i already owned a woven black. its definitely not kevlar. just saying... all it takes is one site to put out some misinformation.thanks for clarifying though.
i went to the at&t store to checfk out the display with all the colored backs. and the white / black weave ones feel a little different, like they have some sort of soft touch coating compared to the solid colors.
Actually, not all the backs feel the same. The brighter colored backs (Turquoise, Cherry, Lemon Lime, Violet, & Raspberry) have a description that say "Vibrant color with a smooth finish; made of scratch resistant material", the darker colors (Crimson, Cabernet, Navy, Olive, Royal Blue) say "Rich matte color with a soft, non slip finish; made of scratch resistant material", and the really light colors (Spearmint, Mint, Blush) say "Lightly tinted color with a clean and smooth finish; made of scratch resistant material"
So yeah, the only ones with soft touch are Crimson, Cabernet, Navy, Olive, and Royal Blue. Its pretty easy to miss the texture description. It's all faded out.

well aint that a pisser. i just ordered a spearmint. thanks for clearing it up. im about to head to the site and try to find the descriptions. it is so obvious and right there in the face. it is faded. but there is no excuse for me not to have seen it with as many times as i have been on the site. i really liked the feel of my woven black. i should have gone with olive orange or royal orange royal red. DAMMIT! now i have to go through this rma thing all over again. what a nightmare.

lol, sorry man
If it makes you feel any better I have Spearmint and it's not terrible feeling. It has a kind of matte texture to it but it's smooth. Kind of hard to describe. It's smooth but definitely not as slippery as shiny plastic or glass.
Also, we live ridiculously close haha. Nice to know I'm not the only person in TN with a Moto X

We do don't we. My brother is also in Hendersonville with one. That is three down.... 300k to go. Lol
OK. So I got my green in today. Its not as bad as I thought it would be. And the looks of it way overcomes the lack of non slip. Like you said... Its got a little grip to it and its not slippery.

"Smooth" vs "non-slip" back

Has anyone actually used both a "non-slip" back and a "smooth clean" back Moto X? Is there an actual difference in how slippery the phone is?
Trying to decide between a Dev Edition or Mint back for a replacement device.

do you mean smooth vs. woven? others have posted that the non-woven backs are actually more tacky than the woven ones.
Well right now I have royal blue, which is described on Moto Maker as "soft nonslip." Woven black has the same description.
Mint, however, says "clean and smooth."
maybe that's just a description. vzw has the backs displayed like a peacock. they all had the same rubberized coating. if you want/need additional tack, you could always get a case.
A case is not an option. Just looking for opinions on people who have held and used both.
The smooth backs are definitely more slippery. The are a harder plastic without any kind of soft touch/rubberized feel to them.
I have the Dev Edition with the woven back and I gotta say that it's pretty slippery. I can't compare to the solid colored backs because I've never held one in my hand. Just chiming in that the woven backs are pretty slippery. It really surprised me because in the pictures, the woven back looks like it would be more 3D; like they would have the actual feel of a back made of woven materials instead of just a paint job to look like it. I know that was the point, it just took me by surprise is all.
Interesting, and unfortunate. I wonder if the black woven back has a different texture than the white woven, because the black says soft non-slip.
Not that I want the black woven back. I guess I'll be avoiding the Dev edition *and* the Mint back. Too bad.
I have not felt the white woven back, but the black one is pretty grippy (much more so than the light colored smooth backs). They are not painted, but actually woven. The pattern comes from some translucency in the plastic that shows the underlying fibers.
If you go to a carrier store, they usually will have a black woven back and most of the colors that you can feel.

Yeah the black woven is pretty grippy. Almost rubbery.
My wife's blush (the light pink) back is smoother and less grippy.
Black and white woven feel completely different. I have both. White woven is smooth, hard, and slippery. Black woven feels like silky rubber if that makes sense. It's not super grippy, but definitely more grippy than the white woven.
Just read the descriptions for each color on Motomaker. It says which ones are soft touch and which are hard / smooth.

Went to an ATT store and felt the different backs. The darker colors seem to be more grippy. I made a note that: Olive, Navy, Royal Blue, Black, Cabernet and Crimson were the ones with grip. Not sure about the woven ones.

I was just at Best Buy and this is definitely the case. The non-slip colors have a rubbery texture that the smooth ones lack. White woven does not have it. That said, it seems to be just as tacky with a light touch.
Thanks.

Yeah, the hard, smooth colors can occasionally be tacky. If your hands are warm, a little clammy, have a bit of moisture on them, the hard, smooth backs stick pretty well. If your hands are cold or dry though, they can be very slippery.
Thanks, that's a good point. I'll probably go "reverse-dev-edition" with a woven black back and white front, with blue accents.

Which color is more resistant to fingerprints : 'woven black' or 'black'

I was about to order my moto x and I don't have one to compare against (all the stores I can get to only have woven black).
Which one has better fingerprint / smudge resistance?
- Woven Black
or
- Black
I have woven black, it doesn't really get any smudges at all. The back always looks clean and fingerprint free. My Nexus 5 on the other hand is a damn smudge magnet.
I have a white one that I then converted to a black one which was later converted to a green one. No fingerprints or stains on any of them.

I'd say woven would be better.

What difference does it make? Are you a professional cellphone photographer?
Only parts of the phone that fingerprints irritate me is on the camera lens cover and sometimes the screen. The Moto X's screen is pretty slick and smudge resistant. But I do find myself occasionally touching the rear lens cover when pulling the phone out of my pocket.
Wash your hands more often and your phone will stay cleaner and as a side benefit you won't get sick as often.
As far as a materials, I'm not impressed with the scratch resistance of the "soft matte" colors. The back of my navy AT&T model picked up some little nicks in short order. I just got a woven black T-Mobile version and I'm hoping it will be more durable. It has a similar soft feel, though, so I'm not so sure. Maybe the smooth finish colors are better.
Or perhaps this phone just wasn't meant to be set down on anything hard without a cover installed...

[Q] Regarding the colour of Sony Xperia SP

I have decided to buy this Sexy Phone
But confused to choose the variant white or black
Black version is prone to fingerprints and white one is prone to dust and grease :\
White version gives a premium feel though !!
So people please pour in your suggestions
Thanks in advance !!!
Cheers !!
I like the white one. As you said, it gives more of a premium feel. The metal frame also looks much better in the white version than in the black one.
On the other hand, the display looks better when turned off in the black one.
The front part of the phone is of glass so it will not catch much dust. One thing is that the back scratches easily if you drop your phone a lot and this shows a lot more in white than in black.
I have the black one and i like the color i use it with a matte screen protector so no fingerprint problem on the front side and the back cover is not like a glossy black so both sides no problem.
I also like the white one but the aluminium frame is grey (as you would expect but not the glossy aluminium grey) as in the black one the frame is painted black like the rest of the phone giving it a smoother look.
I like my choice and i would recommend the black one but watch out if the frame paint gets damaged by a fall it will look awful.
That's what i think thank you .

[Q] question on aluminum colors

hey guys got my coupon and am about to order a pure edition..ftw.. lol but I'm going back and forth between white and black front.
real question is if the aluminum band color changes depending on the front color...motomaker makes it look like with white the aluminum is more our aluminum, whereas the black front is accompanied by a darker aluminum...
thanks..
Yup. White front comes with silver color aluminum frame. Black is supplied with a darker grey color.
Go with black, it's much nicer looking. With the white you see all the sensors on the front and it looks super cluttered. The black is just... elegant.
Thanks. Got a black at&t now. I do like it. Can't wait for my pure!!
