Volume up + Power doesnt work - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Only way I can boot up is to wait for the device to drain battery totally, before I can plug in the charger and then I can start it up.
Meaning if I want to flash it with Emma or flashtool with ftf file, volume down won't lite up the led in left corner, what happens instead is that a pop up in the notifications area on my win7 machine tells there is no suitable driver for qhusb_bulk, now what is that? For some reason my Z3C is now in stuck mode. It won't boot, charge, flash! Maybe this qhusb_usb puts the device into limbo mode.
So tomorrow morning my device will wake up after its fully drained and recharged!
Has anyone seen that on other sony's?
Now my Z3C is a "brown" device, meaning a prototype.
It could also just be a crappy sample. But I was able to flash it once with Emma and secondly with flashtool!
I have pc companion, Emma and flashtool reinstalled so drivers should be there. Strange?
Funny - I can't either go to some url's such as xda forums, gsmarena.com and etc.
Tried with wifi only also! And can my be stuff from phone memory to ad card with total commander
But wired with usb I can from pc!?
4K video overheats the device, after 10 minutes recording it killed the camera app! And I lost my video, hence it probably didn't processed the file!
Other than that it's a great device, better than the Z1C, I just miss, root, CyanogenMOD, Custom kernels and twrp.
Maybe when it hits the masses, the some devs will obtain all that!
For now I would be happy to boot it up.
10-20 sec volume up + power doesn't get it to vibrate and do the battery pull trick!
Any good ideas, otherwise I have to wait to it drains out!

Hold "vol down & power" for 5-10 seconds it should turn off and vibrate several times... Then power back up as you would.
(At least that's "how to" on the z1c.)

Tried both volume up and volume down + power for several seconds and many times now. Only solution seems to be, wait for it to drain all the juice and then connect the charger. Then it will start for sure, now I've tried it two times already during the last 10 days or so!

I was wrong it is vol up and power. You got a duff

I found the issue to be related to device pin code/cooperate mail with it policy's, after removal of cooperate mail + device pin
the driver issue disapeared afterwards as well. so my suggestion is to avoid having cooperate account+device pin if/when dealing with fastboot and flashtool on other stuff.
now with root, cwm, androplus kernel, xposed and a bunch of modules and mods, it's truly fun to have android again.

Wtf are you talking about

Xperia Z 6603 - Auto Repair Triangle Boot Loop after .244 Update

Hi All,
I have an Xperia Z C6603 UK Unbranded phone and have just updated to the 244 update (direct from 434) using the PC Companion software. Phone is not rooted.
Did the update - all seemed OK, running android 4.2.2 no problems. Then had notification to update Sony apps (Walkman, Album, etc) so I started the process of updating the apps as usual. Then the problems started:
apps were frozen at "installing". System worked fine. Left it for 10 minutes, no progress.
Decided to restart the phone
Phone did not reboot as normal but went into "auto repair" mode with the settings triangle and a status bar at the bottom (+ red LED when plugged in)
The status bar never progressed, it just stayed continuously "moving" as if initialising
Was only able to REBOOT phone off by holding Vol+ and the POWER button. I could never turn it off, it would only reboot to the same state.
PC companion software did not recognise the phone was connected to PC regardless of the various options I tried.
Downloaded the Sony Update Service application and installed on PC
Finally managed to get the phone connected to the PC by doing the following:
-hold down Vol+ and Power till phone goes off
-keep holding Vol+ and Power until phone vibrates once
-keep holding Vol+ and Power until phone vibrates 3 times
-let go and then immediately plug in USB cable (while SUS is running on PC) and simultaneously hold the Vol- button down.
-SUS recognised the phone. Unfortunately the only option I had was to factory reset and lose all data.
Anyway I how have my phone back but it was factory reset. Never mind all my stuff is online anyway so that's not a biggie.
Thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else runs into this problem.
For what its worth I think the 244 update is a huge improvement on the 434 firmware. Better screen visibility and colours and seems a little faster (but that could be the reset). Dont know about the battery life but glad its back.
Cheers.
If you happen to see the repair triangle thing again leave it to do its thing.
It can take a while for it to complete as it's optimising/repairing system files. Just be patient

Thanks for the tip . I did wonder if I should leave it but it was unchanged for over two hours so I thought it was properly stuck.
Battery life seems to be pretty good as well so far.
There has beena few incidents where it took people over 24 hours for it to complete.
Just leave it be, and you can keep all your data

[Q] Shutdown loop

I've already ask this question on sonymobile forum, but have no result. Trying to post it here.
I upgrade my Z1 to 4.4.2 and get the next issue.
When I switch off my phone with long press power button -> "swich off phone", its successfully shutting down but after 5-10 sec. show startup SONY logo then swich off display then show logo again and so on endlessly...
It was very unexpectedly, when I swich off Z1 and put it into pocket, after cuple of days I found it totally discharged. I cant make phone alive with wall charger and only 2-3 hours on USB charger can reanimate Z1.
I was try everything what I read no docs and forums, reflash with SUS and sony PCC, flash different versions of FTF via flashtool, boot on safe mode etc, but nothing helps
Is there software problem with shutdown loop or problem with battery controller or something else? How can I fix it? Any considerations?
P.S. Small "force shutdown" button or Power+VolUp combination sometimes helps to shutdown phone.
Power and vol+ force reboot, not shutdown, to force shutdown u need to push the tiny red button in the sim location.
I suggest you to reflash your phone with a tft file or with SUS, 4.4.2 brings many drain battery problems.

Try to start from scratch:
1. Wipe internal sdcard
2. Eject (pull out) you external sdcard
3. Re-flash FTF (don't thick anything, let it default flash configuration)
4. Don't try to restore any app or data from old firmware version.
5. Check if the problem still persist

Then maybe there is something wrong with your phone
I guess find the decision.
Enable "Developer options" enter in it and check the checkbox "don't keep activities". Shut down with power button was OK. Now waiting for autoshutdown after battery discharged.. After uncheck this options back, the problem does not appear.
I have problem like you ,i try to ask many times but no resolve.
It happened since update to 4.4
Now I need to hold power+volume up to turn off phone completely or when press reboot in the recovery

Hello. I have the same issue with my unhappy Z1. First of all, don`t use high almerage chargers, ie sony wall charger, it has 1.5A. Try to plug low amperage tools, for example try to plug phone to your computer via USB, it has 0.5A in USB2.0 and 0.9A in USB3.0. Put the phone chargeing for 1-2 hours and DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!
After that long press (5-10 sec) on small red clit (power shutdown button), and then try to power up the phone normally with power button. If all ok, left phone charge for full battery.

[Q]HOW TO RECOVER A HARD Bricked Sony XZC6002?

This is a HARD Bricked phone that first started going berserk after a partial install of a SONY software update. The phone would flash the home screen and continually vibrate. I forced it down with power off. Did not know what I was doing and believe I converted a soft brick to a hard brick. The soft brick at first responded to power button and volume up button to reboot. After that point it became more and more unresponsive to complete death.
It is not recognized by PC (even in the device manager) when plugged into USB port on PC. NO LED or any lights on the phone at all! No red charging LED with charger plugged in, No Sony screen icon, no vibration with power button pushed hard for >10 seconds (with and without pushing up/down volume). The ONLY response I get is an audible windows sound coming from my PC as long as I hold the power and volume up button down.
I have left the phone off a charger for >48 hours and then placed it on the charger for 6-7 hours. Still no red LED while on the phone was on the charger. Reason for me doing this was my reading notes that Sony had a battery error issue that could only be solved by removing the battery or draining it completely. Recharging the battery was suppose to be a fix. A recent poster did this (removed the battery) which is a job and was able to get a red LED but nothing else. There was no reply.
My readings also indicated that there are a number of people with this problem (hard bricked phone) involved with download or install of their software Sony reportedly has a fix to install to correct it. I am a day late and a dollar short.
BTW, the Sony PC companion works up until I connect the phone to the PC and then an error message appears to make sure battery is charged to 80% before proceeding. Ignoring that brings up a troubleshooting screen prompting holding the power button and volume up button for 10 seconds. This is where I get an audible windows connect/disconnect sound coming from my PC that will keep sounding as long ass I hold the buttons down and stops after I remove them. Could this possibly be just a battery issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Firstly, you've made one major mistake when you've turned off your phone by using force. It can completely brick your phone forever.
Secondly, if you can hear any sound when connect your phone to USB, then thats mean, that your phone is still in minimal functionality. However, you can give a try to buy a new battery and see, how it goes.
It's better to buy extra battery, than change the whole phone, am I right?
And try to leave your phone without touching it for couple days I think. Maybe your battery somehow has got any fault or it has been faulted when you've force-shutted the phone.
Just give a try and that's all. You can't do anything else, except if you know and you're ready for phone disassembly. If none of my suggested methods will work, then try some other tutorials, you can search for them in XZ category's. I've forgotten how that thread is named, but you can search by some key-words, like : ultimate recovery, back to life, unbrick and etc.,
I hope my information is all correct and helpful, if not, then sorry for disturbation for nothing

My gut tells me that the battery is OK but needs to be recharged. Apparently there is something that will not allow the battery to recharge unless it is removed or drained to zero. I thought I drained it to zero but perhaps not. The other case where the battery was removed and was then able to show a red LED apparently allowed the battery to recycle. That's as far as he got.
In the mean time I'm taking your advise and just letting the phone sit until someone makes a suggestion or I get tired of looking at it.
Thank you for your time and suggestions.
Can you enter the "fastboot" mode (unlocked bootloader) /"flash mode" (locked bootloader) ?
Hold "volume down" button and connect with USB cable to the pc.
So first hold "volume down" button and then connect with USB cable to the pc while holding the "volume down" button. Let go the "volume down" when a green led on your phone appears.
You can still enter the "flash mode" if the green led appears.
Hold "volume up" button and connect with USB cable to the pc.
So first hold "volume up" button and then connect with USB cable to the pc while holding the "volume up" button. Let go the "volume up" when a blue led on your phone appears.
If the blue led appears on your phone you can still enter the "fastboot mode".
There is still hope if the green/blue leds appear on your phone (meaning you can still enter "flash mode" / "fastboot mode".
. But the following question need to be answered:
Has your phone an unlocked bootloader?

Has your phone an unlocked bootloader?
The phone was purchased from Sony and was factory unlocked. It was running fine until the new update from Sony was installed. I believe the update was related to the OS which is 4.4.4.

I tried to charge it, but it's useless
I also tried to force restart it from restart button but it doesn't wake up

Have you tried the OFF button on the back?
You should try to connect your phone to pc, press volume button and keep it pressed. Then without releasing the volume button, press the restart button on the back until you see the led (blue or green depending on the volume you pressed). This means you have at the same time : usb + volume + reset button on the back.
You should keep it pressed during 3 to 15 seconds. If this doesn't work, put your phone to charge (on wall charger and preferably with stock charger) during 1-2 hours and try again.
Try reflash a stock ftf
Please provide more information to the things you did. Did you use EMMA or FLASHTOOL?

Edit: 12 hours later and still no signs of life, so im' doiwnloading ftf and i'm going to try flashing it...
Make sure you have the driver installed for your phone.
1. Download, install and run the driver update utility. Here's the link where you can download it.
http://www.driverscape.com/download/xperia-sp
2. If it doesn't detect your phone, download flashtool from here:
http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
Make sure you have the latest ftf image in order to flash to your phone. You can download from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964
3. Make sure your phone is off by force shut down (clicking the OFF hard key in the back)
4. Open flashtool. Press and hold the volume down key and then connect your phone to the computer by USB.
5. The notification bar will light green indicating that it is connected in flash mode.
You can then follow instructions on how to flash through Google search. If you are able to reach step 5 and don't know how to flash, let me know.

Thanks, i know how to flash ftf, but my phone shows no signs of life, when plugged to charger, the LED doesn't light up and i can't go to flash mode aswell. So now it seems that the only thing i can do is to take my phone to repair, as it seems there is some hardware problem...
Dead Xperia SP Also
I have same situation since 21st of December.. I left my Phone on. When I was going to bed. I woke Up and saw this fuzzy blank grey screen, then I pressed the reset button at the back of the phone thinking all will be fine, But since then I've been battling with it. First, No sign of life after plugging, then a day later after I left it connected to my PC, The LED LIGHT turned red, but dead screen. About 15MINS later it goes off, Then comes up again (LED LIGHT) I've tried connecting to PC, it recognises it for about 4seconds and it disconnects automatically, I've tried practically all the method I saw on here.. Rubber band trick, leaving it to charge all night connected to wall charger / PC..All proved abortive, I have been trying to get the MAGIC green LED LIGHT (FLASHMODE) but it never works.. I took it to a repair shop (NOT SONY) He said he only deals with HARDWARE that it wasn't hardware problem, and they then went ahead to flash it.. (I'm out of warranty) STILL NO LUCK.. I'll be glad if anyone can guide me through or come up with a Plausible SOLUTION, 'cause my BREAK has been horrible since my PHONE went M.I.A..... Thank you GUYS
So, finally I'm going to pick up my repaired SP :fingers-crossed:. They thought it was a problem caused by the reset button pushed too hard, but since they've informed me they've changed whole motherboard, the problem must have been somwhere else, maybe they'll tell me where.
(And it seems that despite the fact i've unlocked the bootloader and flashed ROM on it, they will accept it as a warranty repair, because i think they weren't able to get to know that )
My XSP must really hate me. After less than a week since i've picked it up from the repair, it's dead again (everything tried - reset button, leaving it to charge, usb) with no signs of life ... I guess there must be a much bigger problem than just motherboard That means another two weeks with my old slow LG OO. I'm gonna die without it, i've maintained almost a month without it back then, but i had a tablet borrowed for a review. Now it's worse...
Maybe they should give me another XSP instead of trying to repair this one again...
have you considered about the battery?
the battery might be dead for all we know
That may be the problem, but i must also keep in mind that it had its motherboard changed a week ago. Anyway, i took it to the service again, they also said that charger may be causing it, but battery seems more logical to me as there were no problems with charging.
So i have to wait another two long weeks and then i'll know what was it...

ZUK Z2 not booting anymore after restore

Hey,
so I was running cm13 (some version from november) and i wanted to go back to zui so i restored a backup that i created when i first got the phone. i booted into twrp, pressed on restore and selected my backup. after waiting for the backup to restore i saw that the process failed. then i pressed on the return to system or whatever button and now my phone wont boot anymore. when i hold power it just vibrates and the notification led flashes once. when i plug it in to charge the notification led doesnt light up. also when connecting it to my pc it is recognized (sound when you plug something in/out) but its not recognized as a phone or storage. what do i do?
Hi,
small question.
Did you do a full wipe?
Please delete system and data partition.
Because you come from cm13 to stock.
Are you able to enter fastboot? Press and hold volume down button and then hold the power button. Alternatively if your phone is off just unplug it and leave it for a few minutes, then whilst holding just the volume down button plug it into your PC and then check with "fastboot devices" in your terminal (I'm assuming that you do have adb and fastboot tools on your phone since you had a custom ROM).
@djsven I just went into twrp and tried to restore my back up not more not less. I cant delete the data and system partition as my device isnt turning on and my pc doesnt recognize the phone as a storage device.
@Uivalf39 by holding volume down and power button i cant enter. all it did was vibrate + led flash. I think its on 0% power now because holding power now just makes the led flash once (no vibration anymore). can you tell me what exactly you mean by "check with "fastboot devices"".
thanks to everyone trying to help

You'll first need to install adb and fastboot tools, as well as drivers for the phone and google utilities. I assume you already have these since you must have unlocked your phone and flashed twrp to install CM13.
Sending the "fastboot devices" command through an adb/fastboot enabled terminal will show you if your phone is fastboot-enabled. Your phone is bricked, the only way to go back to the original software is to follow the guide (available both here and on zukfans), TWRP backup won't work with stock ROMs.
Don't worry though, you should be able to recover it, but it'll be a lot of trial and error.
Have a read through here and here and here, seems like a lot of good troubleshooting material for bricked devices.
Let us know how you get on.
My phone was recognized as QUSB_BULK in device manager. i installed qhsusb drivers and now its in ports and its called "qualcomm hs-usb diagnostics 900e (com10)". trying to find out what to do now.

Oh dear, from the stuff I found on Google, it sounds like you'll have to disconnect the battery to force the phone to shut down everything before carrying on.
Check out this thread on zukfans, specifically these comments: [1] [2]
This is the danger of having phones with non-removable batteries. Sounds like you might have to remove the back glass, shouldn't be TOO difficult, looks like it's just glued down without any clasps so you'll need a heat gun (hair dryer should do). Here is a guide on doing that.
If you do end up doing that, would you be willing to film it and upload it to YouTube afterwards? I can't find any video of such a feat and it would be useful for anyone else who needs to do that. Maybe even add some comments of whether there are any clasps, how long you had to heat it up, etc.
In the past I've been successful in unbricking my phones by draining them until the battery protection circuitry wouldn't allow for any more power to be drawn. This would roughly be equivalent to unplugging the battery so it might work for you depending what the phone is currently doing. If the screen comes on then you should be able to drain it, if only your notification light flashes then it's a fool's errand.
NB: The zukfans poster's step 1 was to fully charge your phone as you'll need full battery for the solution. What I described above will probably not work but there's always multiple solutions to every problem and if you're weary of removing the back you can try that, don't hold me on this, but I it shouldn't do any damage.
@Uivalf39
I managed to remove the battery connector. after putting it back in and now im trying to do the sequence i still dont understand because of bad phrasing (hold vol up then hold power then after 0.5s plug usb in? hold vol up hold power for 0.5s after plugging in? idk). all i now get is a slow flashing led when connecting it to anything via usb no matter what i press. i dont even know if its charging

After doing that, what do you have on device manager? Is it still as before with the 900e?
Alright, so from what I understand it goes something like this:
Unplug battery connector
Wait 10-15 seconds with the connector unplugged
Plug back battery connector
Press and HOLD volume up button
Whilst holding volume up press power button and hold it down
After 0.5s of holding power button plug in the usb (connected to the PC) - still keep holding the volume up and power button
Keep holding volume up and power button, and the ZUK logo should pop on the screen and phone should vibrate
Now release buttons and your phone should appear in device manager as port 9008
How did you find removing the glass back? How did you do it and how difficult would you say it was?
@Uivalf39 Im pretty sure im getting the timing right but all i get is a slowly flashing nofication led. no vibration and no logo. also my device doesnt get recognized at all on my pc i cant find it in device manager.
removing the back was pretty easy i just heated the 3 corners (the ones without a camera) on max for like 2 min each with a hair dryer. then i pushed in a plectrum and went around the edges with it.
@mdeoinko That's really strange, maybe we'll need to think a bit outside the box. What version of Windows are you using? Do you have the qualcomm/zuk/google drivers installed properly?
Here's one comment that might be useful.
Also, Francko from zukfans (main ROM guy so I guess he knows his stuff) did some trickery with the USB cable, not entirely sure what it is and how it works, but it looks like it does so you might want to look into this.
I'd say that you should maybe post to zukfans, you'll get more help there.
Godspeed my son!
@Uivalf39 damn i completely forgot about modifieng the cable brb hopefully i can fix it now
@mdeoinko
Hiya, any update? Hoping that your lack of posts means that you solved the issue and no longer need help. If so, could you post here what you did to solve it? Such that anyone else with this issue that comes across this thread might know what works and what doesn't.
Cheers!
i need help, cant signup into zukfans giving error as spam activity, cant go into 9008 mode, tried everything accept removing back of the fone. any guesses...
