[Q] Tmobile data problem - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I have a sprint HTC one unlocked to run on T-mobile. I live in south west Washington, and I am having a very strange issue with my data. I select a data mode from the *#*#4636#*#* menu, and about half the time I connect to data. The other half of the time, it stays on UMTS, and no gsm logo pops up next to the signal. Other times, I will go to HSDPA, and have a very speedy data connection. Is there any way to disable UMTS? Could this be a rom issue, or a APN issue? I can almost always get an edge connection, but HSDPA is much better to use. I have done the R-UIM patch. I'll try to answer any questions, but I dont have tmobile service at my house, so I cant be sure

You can't "disable" UMTS. From my tests on this variant of the One, setting it to "GSM auto (PRL)" will get me on HSPA. It will keep me on HSPA until the network kicks me off. (Fast Dormancy, it puts you down to UMTS when you aren't actively using data to conserve energy.) [Maybe you can disable Fast Dormancy, who knows.]

Kaiser keeps switching from 3G to Edge

A friend of mine just purchased the Kaiser to be used on the at&t network. He lives in a 3G area in the USA and for some reason, his phone will not hold the 3G connection. It wants to switch to Edge. Is there a manual setting to stop this from happening or a new utility to enable/disable certain connection. Is this normal for 3G to do this. Any information I can pass on would be greatful.
Thanks
I think it's an indication that 2G is stronger than 3G in your area. My Kaiser always hold 3G connection all the time where I live. You can "manually" force 3G. Here is one the many ways to do it: on Windows Start menu, go to "Setting" then "Phone" (on the "Personal" tab), click "Band" tab, then use "WCDMA" for network type selection (default is "Auto")
Thanks for the help. I'll pass it on.
While the Kaiser is my first ppc type phone and I cannot claim to be expert I do think that this is a normal reaction of the phone to what networks are available.
I live in San Jose Ca. and must, perchance, move up and down the peninsula in the normal course of work and life.
I see my Kaiser switching from Edge to 3G to unnamed all up and down the peninsula. It is best for 3G in the cities and worse up in the hills -as one might expect. I also get the best 3G connections in the evenings and night vs. the daytime when, I assume, more 3G users are taking up bandwidth.
It is unfortunate that where I live is an Edge (during the daytime) area though I am paying for the 3G data plan.
3G issues with the TyTnII
Hello all:
I post on the AT&T HTC forumn and had this thread sent to me by another poster there.
I also have a TyTnII newly aquired from MobilePlanet on Weds. I am having the same issues with 3G. It briefly flashed the G icon on boot up then switches to Edge with all 5 bars. I've tried the manual mode fix, no luck. The wcdma gets no signal and the gsm goes back up to 5 bars same as auto.
Then theres the inability to register my serial # on HTC's EU site. Says SN is invalid... MP has had several reports of EU devices doing this.
I'm in the US, NorthEast NJ area. And in the middle of a known 3G area.
Bill
Can anyone help Bill out? How many of you CAN use 3G on the USA at&t network without a problem? He's trying to see if it's a setting issue or a phone issue. I'm not in a 3G area so I can't help him here.
Thanks

I get a 3g signal when I go into Philly (I live about 45 minutes outside the city) It holds it just fine as well. Is it possible you just have weak 3g coverage where you are? I actually shut off the 3g on my phone as I have no 3g coverage at work or at home and the 3g connection discharges the battery in a hury.
I'm on AT&T as well.
Oh - BTW - I also can't register my phone with the eClub either. I sent an Email to the HTC Webmaster but have not had any reply in 3 days. I'm not too confident in HTC's support.

Can’t change network and roam with Att tilt

Hi,
I have an Att tilt (stock) and at work I loose phone signal.
I had a similar issue with my sprint phone and phone service. When the setting for “roaming or sprint network” was set to “automatic” I would loose signal all the time. Instead for the phone locking into the roaming stronger signal (Alltel) would try to lock into the sprint weak signal all day (going in and out resulting in lost calls). When I had that setting to “roaming only” it would lock into alltell (the stronger signal) with 5 bars.
On the tilt when I go to phone/settings/network the only option is “find network” and that option looks for att and not anything else. Is there a way to force my att tilt to roam only and therefore lock to the alltel network (very strong signal)? Or expose all the available networks and choose which one I want to lock in?
Thanks for all the help, this is a great forum
cannot locate different networks
im having the same problem. phone has bad at&t signal. I cannot locate a diferent network.
Forcing roaming with tilt
I guess the question is…Is there a way to force roaming only in a stock att tilt?
Thanks,
Bump
Anyone?
Thanks for the help
Bump again....I want to know the same thing. I have free roaming, but I can't get it to roam.
PRL file
Bump
Does the phrase “PRL file” provide any help?
Is this an editable file that can solve the issue?
Thanks

I'd like manual n etwork selection as well, but you may be roaming and not know it. AT&T sets up all their phones so it looks like you are on your native network, even when you're not. I had bypassed this and enabled manual network search on all my Motorola phones, I'd like to do the same here with my Tilt.

i suggest setting the band in settings/phone to wcdma. Try it.

I don't have that setting. AT&T removed it. In 3G mode the field test doesn't do much. In GSM mode it seems to work well.

The stock HTC ROM allows this, but it didn't seem to do anything. I know because the ATT HSDPA network is available at my house (barely), and when I lose it it switches to a full signal Edge.
But! If I switch to GSM it seems to lock to the much better Edge signal at my house instead of the HSDPA. That works for me, but will it limit my signal elsewhere?
I had the same problem....the network found was AT&T all the time and no signal, so I place the Sim in a friends Nokia with manual network selection and choose T-MOBILE, place it back in my tilt...problem solved !!
Note: I'm an international user, only use roaming when in USA. But this may help you guys !

[Q] 3G Roaming

I've been traveling for work lately and I'm frequently in areas where there is no AT&T 3G coverage. My phone will go to the EDGE network when it would be nice to have 3G. I've enabled the Data Roaming checkbox hoping this would fix it but it still stays on EDGE.
My question...Is there a way to force 3G roaming? In other words, make the phone search for 3G towers when its only getting EDGE...
Nevermind....I think I just found the answer.

Disable "3G" while enabling "H" - possible or not?

My carrier has bad 3G operation, whilst HSDPA works fine. The problem is that phone sometimes switches between 3G and H, and when it does switch to 3G, there is no internet until it swithes back to H or down to E. I'm almost sure that this is caused by carrier, and I can't fix it with firmware. So I would like my Tab to avoid 3G mode at all, while using H and E. Can I set it to do so?

Unfortunately, it's impossible, you can either choose "H" & "3G" with wcdma/umts or "G" & "E" with GSM in Mobile Networks. You can't choose to leave out 3G when it's doing H, cause both of them are under wcdma mode.
Of cause, if you leave your "Network mode" to auto, it will jump around gsm and wcdma when it see fit. By choosing it to run GSM mode only, will keep your network connect to "E"/"G(gprs)" ONLY; Or WCDMA for "H"/"3G" ONLY.

[Q] Access to more Network Mode options? XT1053

I saw a few screenshots of people's Moto X's from sprint with a bunch of options under Network Mode. I have the XT1053 (TMO unlocked, on ATT network) and the only options I see are "Auto" and "2G."
I browsed around and found that there's an LTE OnOff app, but I'm just wondering if there's a way I can get those options for 3G on my device's Network Mode option list?
The reason why I even care is because for some reason at my workplace, I can't seem to get any data through LTE. My signal will display 3 bars of LTE, but it absolutely does not work. While it will turn off LTE and just say 4G since it's on auto, I find that a majority of my day, it WON'T switch. It stays on 4G LTE 99% of the time and does not function at all. When I walk outside the building, LTE works perfectly fine. Would I be right to assume that the auto mode is literally on borderline between switching, so it never establishes a stable connection?
I guess it brings me to the question, is the Auto mode inefficient / will I have to live with manually turning off LTE every time I get to work? :/

3 bars of LTE is an excellent signal. With 1 bar of signal I can still get 15mbps down from my provider. If your phone is detecting such a strong received signal it won't be switching back to HSPA on its own. For some reason the building you're in may block the phones transmitted signal more then it blocks the signal from the cell site. I am guessing you're on band 4 LTE which has quite the frequency difference between uplink and downlink. Your only option(assuming the phone or cell site isn't defective) is to manually switch to WCDMA with a third party app such as the "LTE setting" app in the Play store. Or unlock your bootloader and flash firmware from another provider that has more options. I know the Rogers Canada firmware has an LTE on/off option, it also has a 2G only option. Sadly Rogers has not yet approved the release of 4.4 (kitkat).

That makes a lot more sense to me now. So basically the "Auto" mode only considers my reception and not transmittance strength, so it never saw a need to switch me off LTE. I am almost sure it is not my phone because I started experiencing a signal loss issue with my S3 a few days ago. I doubt it's the cell site because as soon as I step out of the building, LTE works with no problems.
I did ended up using LTE OnOff to force CDMA and I can actually do stuff now. I went and did a speedtest ...
Ping: 114 ms
Down: 4.06 Mbps
Up: 0.77 Mbps
I guess with the lack of options, I have yet another reason to roll up the sleeves and get my hands dirty. Haven't touched ABD since I had a samsung captivate!
Thank you
