Launch date moved up! - Galaxy Note 4 General

Two websites are reporting the launch date and availability have been moved up from Oct 17th the Sept 26th! I highly doubt I'll have ours in hand by this Friday, but a gut can dream, can't he?
http://www.androidauthority.com/note-4-release-accelerate-iphone-529198/
Has anyone seen an official announcement from Samsung about this new launch date?

That said for south korea

Reading comprehension

Fail

I've actually for three website reports of this now, two mentioning Korea, and one mentioning India, with no confirmation of an accelerated us date yet, however they are supposedly trying to contact Samsung for clarification.

Yeah? I couldn't care if South Korea gets product today - doesn't help me in Canada. ?

Doesn't help me either, but my point of posting was to find out if everyone was getting a more recent launch date, and if anyone had gotten further information. If India is also being moved up, other countries could be moved up as well.
We are seeing a very low key launch here right now. We were actually the first people to preorder yesterday, even though they have been available for preorders since Friday. The only ads we've also seen are the snarky apple comparison ads, which don't really make Samsung look that great, IMHO.

Looks like Samsung have fail. Is this their first time?
This will be my first Samsung phone.

i wanna get mine early. come on samsung announce it for the us early!

Lol so I read the article on gsmarena... Says Samsung moved the launch date up because "The positive reaction from consumers to those two Apple devices prompted us to launch the Note 4 earlier than previously scheduled. Samsung will be aggressive in promoting the Note 4 as it's true that we are being challenged and pressured amid a difficult situation,"
Really Samsung? How could they be so blind? Apple is androids biggest competitor... So apple releases a phablet and Samsung thinks they are going to release the note 4 almost a month later and not lose market share?
With how little of an upgrade the note4 compared to the note3 I know a few that bought the 6+ to just test the waters. With such a small upgrade they should have had this out on launch day to get as many sales as possible.
I have given up thinking Samsung has a strategy and just realized they are not familiar with consumerism... Especially western consumerism. They need to quit making lame ads about Apple and start copying apples marketing strategies while producing top of the line phones.

ATT website states 10-17 .. i have already ordered .. pre-order for ATT was 19th sept.

What I seriously don't get, is on one hand, they say preorders are sold out.. and then on the pther hand, they say they are moving up the launch date to sell more phones.
How do you sell more phones if you are sold out, and if you wanted to sell 15 million of them, why don't you have 15 million to sell?

Add a fellow Canadian I just want "a" release date. I'm banking on getting it the same time the U.S. does.

The articles clearly state that Samsung is focusing on markets where the iPhone has not released yet.
Another buzz killer is the already advertised pre-order rebate. Ends 10/16.
That does not mean western places other than the u.s will not have a slight chance

I would assume even just releasing it to markets the iPhone hasn't reached yet are fairly small. I doubt apple would target small markets over large. So I still stand with another poorly handled launch.

They are making a press announcement tomorrow, so we'll know what the official word is then.

Why such a strange release?

So who has theories on why this release has been limited to such a few sporadic outlets? I mean the Play Store I get since that is Google but why no other major electronics retailers? I would expect at least Best Buy and Fry's to be selling from the brick&mortar front and Buy.com, New Egg and Amazon from the online. Instead we have a few obscure online shops like B&H and some office supply stores? Game Stop seems to be the only one that kind of fits but even that isn't the first place I would think of when looking for new tablet.
Just a thought as we wait...
It's become fairly obvious to me that Google doesn't know what in the world it's doing.

Send it out to all retailers, but have retailers hold stock until launch day. Ship preorders 2 days before launch. Done.
Now the only thing that can unravel this is if some retailers don't hold their stock. That's what seems to be happening, not entirely Google's fault.
Google has no control whatsoever over the distribution since the Nexus 7 wasn't manufactured in-house (read: inside the Google premises) nor distributed by them. ASUS is the manufacturer and all Nexus 7 retail units were distributed through their own supply chain.
The Nexus Q, yes... It's a different story.
This is yet another instance where Apple make Google look like a bunch of rank amateurs. Honestly. I pre-ordered mine on June 29th from the Play Store, assuming that might amount to something!
Here's how google could have done this properly:
Announce that the launch date is a specific date. Let's say July 20th, not 2-3 weeks. Vagueness makes people speculate.
Next, Ship it out to UPS distribution centers and retailers and tell retailers to hold until the 20th. Part of the reason retailers are not following instructions is that anxious people keep bugging them and it's wasting warehouse space for an effectively undetermined amount of time, something that retailers also hate. On July 19th, give the go-ahead to UPS and retailers release on the 20th. Everybody is happy, because everything that was promised was delivered.
This shouldn't have been complicated at all. Pre-ordering with UPS and retailers isn't exactly new.
This should be in Q&A.. might get closed =P

I total agree that this would have made the launch smoother and easier for consumers. However, Google has many highly paid marketing and logistic professionals at their disposal. Is it just that they keep dropping the ball on Nexus launches or is this by design to artificially generate additional hype and anticipation? I'm wondering if it's some type of marketing strategy itself.
..still can't it out..
It creates buzz..

TLDR; Blame ASUS.
Maybe it just took them longer to link the devices to peoples accounts since other than storage size that is the only difference between buying it in retail and getting it from Google Play.
And I'm sure a big list of people cancelling their orders later to get over the limits of Google's horrible store didn't help because they would then have to undo the linking on those devices.

Yeah, quite frankly, I'm also annoyed. In fact, more than a little annoyed. Unless the Play store gives us some sort of reparation for getting screwed over like this, I'm never pre-ordering or buying from Play ever again. I think a free case is fair compensation for all of us who preordered from Play and got screwed over.
In fact, anyone have a link handy for Play's customer support/service email so I can write them a strongly worded letter? Their "Contact Us" page only has their phone number.

So what is your source that states that Google has no say what so ever in the marketing and release of the flagship product that bears there name? Please don't confuse giving your post no credibility with not being able to read.
Maybe you'd prefer the Apple model... people standing in line for a day or 2, running out on release day and no one able to activate their devices? This is Google's first outing for a branded tablet... give 'em a break. Trust me, it'll be worth the wait.
I preordered mine from GameStop and was told July 31 as the release date...extremely surprised to get it last Friday!

This is normal for Asus.
Heck, the Prime has been out for over 6 months, still cant find one in a retail outlet.
Hopefully it's not as bad and they start getting them out.. Wouldn't hold my breath though.
People will probably have to check nowinstock.net for months to track one down.

The frustration of release dates

Why do we have to endure weeks of waiting for the release of a new Samsung device when it has been announced? All those people at the unpacked event waving the Note 4 and Edge around on stage or within the experience stands make me jealous but also make me angry.
I never see why the phones/devices cannot be on the shelves within a week of an announcement for contract free purchases. I understand there might be negotiations with carriers but why stop those with the cash in their hands?
I also would love to know who decides on which country gets a certain device and when.
Samsung is particularly bad at this. They drag their heels with pricing, release dates and availability. Surely this can be all in place prior to their events.
It's not wrong, you're right!
Apple does very well
I know. How long does it take to mole the circuit board, etc?
Its potential for cash cow. People say Oct 5th for T-mobile. Thats 4 weeks too long.
This is one thing Apple actually does very well. Release date generally follows announcement by less than 2 weeks. Pre-orders start just a few days after the announcement.
It is very annoying. I wish they'd just wait to announce until they're closer to release. Who cares if it leaks during production? Samsung isn't as bad as LG tho, they are terrible.
This article is another reason why the wait is irritating. http://www.gsmarena.com/nvidia_files_a_patent_lawsuit_against_samsung_and_qualcomm-news-9564.php
Samsung is terrible at this. Apple has almost always released within earshot knowing the hypetrain is still there. By the time Note 4 arrives iPhone6 will be on shelves. Noone outside the geekworld is hyped about a Note 4. Even casuals know a new and bigger iPhone are coming. After the S5 dissaponting sales you'd think Samsung would pull out all stops.
Shame, they could be taking advantage of the earlier announcement over apple but they're going to just let apple rake in the earlier pre orders.
for one, it's pretty obvious they need time to produce hundreds of thousands of them first., on top of that, each carrier needs time to receive the units and to do their own testing and get samsung to load things on to them, firmware,modems,etc..
surely if they were available right after announced that would mean the device was already in productions many weeks prior and shipped/stocked at all retailers before hand.. this wouldn't make sense..
this is just standard on all electronic and if you ever bought any other piece of electronic in the past, you would have known this is normal practice to announce and then begin shipping out to retailers.

Well I already stated that I understood why there was a delay for carrier testing but I am talking about those who wish to buy outright. And if Apple and HTC can get their stock out shortly after announcements then why can't Samsung? Saying this is normal practice does not make it acceptable.
The devices shown at the launch were not prototypes, the production process has already begun and could have been stepped up prior to the launch.
Also, it still does not answer the question on pricing, release dates and country availability (for carrier free devices) these things need to be finalised before launch or very shortly after. In my opinion it's all just a tactic to build up some sort of hype

Preorder is not the same thing. I only see registration for email alert. Same as T-mobile.
I find it strange that Cellphone carriers do not even concentrate in advertizing for the release of the Note 4.
This is why its nice not having carriers mess and install a bunch of bloat. I don't think carriers mess around with iPhones and install their software on it, so less time wasted on things you don't need or care about. Just get the product out and sell it.
Anyways, just poor planning really, a month is a long time in the tech world and consumer electronic hype wears off fairly fast when something else new and shiny comes out in between then.

People love hyperbole I guess. If it is 'unacceptable' to you then buy an iPhone or HTC product.
Samsung can release its phone any dang time they feel like it - that's their business. If you don't like it, you can not buy it - that's your business.

My point of this post is for debate as to why it happens. We the consumers are entitled to complain. I am looking for logical answers not "If you don't like it buy something else" it's not bringing much to the table.
Thats why i am getting the Iphone 6 over the Note 4, it'll be available sooner and i need a high end phone bad. Good thing is ill be able to sell the iphone 6 at a great price and pick up the note 4 when its out.

There is no answer other than that is how samsung chooses to do it.
Could they hold the announcement closer to the physical release? Yes, of course they could. They just prefer to do it this way, for whatever marketing reason.
If the marketing people thought it was strategic to announce closer to physical release, they would. But clearly they don't.
If Samsung "should" copy something apple does, its their method of announcing and SHIPPING a product very quickly post launch. That is their only major issue. Why allow other OEM's to get product out the door and lose sales and yes they do lose sales and now that apple is going big and bigger on their phones next week with a launch before the Note 4 hits stores that is a big deal and some would be Note 4 buyers will get a 5.5" iphone instead, (dumb move, but it's their choice).
I fully agree with the OP and carriers are very likely the issue. Negotiations would likely have been done already, in the US anyways its likely more about last minute bloatware and who has a "bigger" tower than anything else.
I blame Verizon, for everything lol.
Apple has more control over the carriers.
Apple has more control over the carriers and the supply chain, that is why their rollouts are quicker.
iPhone 6 on the 19th
I thought this thread would be exploding with comments about how Apple can do it in less than 2 weeks.
Anything over 30 days is crazy. The battery life on my Note 2 fading away, I've been eligible for an upgrade for months.
Now that I know the specifics of the Note 4 it has given my a chance to look at other phones S5, G3, M8 or wait for Nexus X.
The longer I wait the less likely that I'll make an 'impulse buy' I'm still excited about the Note 4 but I'm weighting the cost vs features.
What's up with the pre order pages on Samsung.com and Sprint.com? Did I actually pretty order or was it just an email notification? I didn't even receive an email confirmation.

I spoke with someone in the know about the Note 4 release date

I can't give out any details since I don't want to get anyone in trouble but basically I spoke with someone I know who is connected to Samsung and they game me some info, but it's pretty vague. They said that samsung experience shops will begin to put up new ads for the Note 4 during the last week of the month and that the shops will be getting floor models of the Note 4 during that time. The person also said that the release date will be in the first week of October, possibly October 3rd. I also heard another person say something about the Note 4 being release early, as In the last few days of September but that doesn't seem likely since Samsung themselves said October. I am assuming they got the release date confused with the day that they will be sending out floor models but who knows. (EDIT: just read this article on gottabemobile that references a September 26th early release, still skeptical they would release in September after saying October though. http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/09/17/samsung-galaxy-note-4-release-date-could-be-close/) All 5 of the US Note 4 carrier variants have cleared through the FFC so it's coming, soon....ish. Take the above with the typical dose of salt.
Thanks for the info. Did your source happen to mention when the Galaxy Note Edge will release ?
I'll continue to take with spoon full of salt until something more concrete is released. Seen too many of these types of posts over the years on XDA.
I wonder if this would apply to Canadians as well? It looks like past Note's released at the same time in Canada and the USA if I read correctly. I can handle a little over two weeks until launch. I'll set myself up for that and if the info is wrong it shouldn't be much longer after that.

Sorry guys, the info seemed legit enough to share.
Samsung seems to be surprising all of us, but in the worst possible way. What a terrible terrible launch. Releasing a product after 6 weeks from announcement is unacceptable. They got the Note 3 out even quicker than that and they didn't have the iPhone 6+ bearing down on them. Also, releasing a 32bit and 64bit version is so bizarre. Pick one and produce it like all the other manufactured do. Who ever comes up with this stuff needs to be fired pronto.

Verizon is quoting a few days after that:
Order Date: 09/19/2014
Ship By: 10/23/2014
No news on the Edge and a launch 6 weeks after announcement. Apple announces and launches their phablet within 3 weeks of Note 4 announcement. Note 4 ads ,giving no date or reason to buy ,launch on TV.
This is why Samsung sales continously slip. They forget they got to this point by magnificent advertising and hammering iPhones and its fanboys. Now they're too busy patting themselves on the back and acting like everyone is willing to wait it our for their phone.
Its hard getting to the top, but it's harder to STAY there...

Anyone Pre-order a Galaxy Tab S From AT&T?

I pre-ordered an 8.4 and it's due to ship September 23. I've been salivating over the Tab S ever since the WiFi models dropped a couple of months ago. Just a few more days and the wait is finally over!
I just pre ordered after playing with the tab s 8.4 at bestbuy... Excited!!!
I don't understand "Pre-ordering"
So let me get this straight. Manufacturers want us to pay now for something they are not even selling yet. They want to take our money now but not actually give us anything for it until later. All for the "privilege" of owning it a few days before other people. Does that about sum it up?
I fully understand why the manufacturers like this arrangement. Get the money now and deliver later makes great sense for them. To me though, it makes absolutely no sense for the consumer.
Every time I watch the iSheep line up outside an Apple Store I think: "So what? Are they going to run out? Actually they might if you feel you must have one the first day (though I fail to see the practical advantage of that - they will keep making them after all). If I wait until next week will I not be able to buy one (hint: Yes I will be able to buy one next week)? Will they say, no you did not pre-order or stand in line all night so you don't get one?" I sort of doubt that will happen. They will still want my money next week. In fact, wait a little longer (for anything that's not an "i" product) and the price will actually go down.

If you continually wait for a lower price or the new device that's just around the corner, you'll never own anything. I pre-ordered because I could. I've been waiting for an LTE Galaxy Tab S ever since the WiFi models launched 3 months ago. I pre-ordered so that I can save myself the 20 minute drive to my closest AT&T corporate store and instead have my tablet shipped to my house and have it a couple of days early. There is no premium to be paid for pre-ordering. Sure, you're giving them money before you get the device, but there's no risk there. You'll get your device.

Or you could just get it from Amazon with (typically) free two day shipping. No 20 minute drive required and (also typically) notably cheaper than getting the device elsewhere. For example, a Verizon Galaxy s5 phone is currently $199 with contract direct from Verizon but $79.99 on Amazon.

You can't buy the AT&T version on Amazon right now, nor will you until some 3rd party seller decides to sell them. Sometimes they're cheaper, sometimes they aren't. There are sellers on Amazon selling the international LTE models, but those are useless to me because they don't work with US LTE bands. What works for you works for you. Pre-ordering works for me. All good.
Also, your example of the VZW Galaxy S5 is pointless in my situation because I don't buy devices on contract. Amazon doesn't compete on full retail price.

They actually don't get the money until the item ships just like any other purchase. You're only reserving a device or place in line if you will. I have to admit thou I enjoy the "privilege" of owning a few days early as most on this site do.

I pre-ordered an 8.4 and it's due to ship September 23. I've been salivating over the Tab S ever since the WiFi models dropped a couple of months ago. Just a few more days and the wait is finally over!

I want to pre-order, but I am going to wait until a few days before the Galaxy Note 4 release. I am hoping there will be a bundle deal with the Phone and Tablet. I will probley buy on the 5th of October so that I an return if a bundle happens.
So, do you have it in hand yet? How bad is the ATT bloat? Samsung bloat is bad enough (I have a Note 10 with a load disabled), but the tablets are nice. I'm waiting on the Nexus 9 for comparison, but interested in an ~8" tab by the end of the year.

Did you get confirmation? I preordered the Sept 20th and it still hasn't shipped yet according to the website
Anyone receive their AT&T model yet? Does it have the Snapdragon or Exynos processor?
Mine is due Saturday (tomorrow). Will report back once I get it. I was able to verify that the Sprint Tab S 10.5 has a Snapdragon, though.
It seems like only Sprint/Verizon got the Snapdragon. AT&T lists the Exynos Octa on their website.
Damn.
Got mine yesterday. Can't wait for it to be rooted. It is a quadcore. Not the octocore.
EDIT: I was wrong it is Octo

You have the AT&T model and it has the Snapdragon 800? Could you post a CPU-Z screenshot?
Now my wifi version is going back to the store
Correction... The application I used to verify was wrong. Did it with CPU-Z... Verified it is the Octocore.
Hear that? Thats the sound of you shattering my dreams with a sledgehammer, you monster.
Thanks for looking into it!

well...the POSSIBLE good news is that the current root method SHOULD still work with the gsm version as well as my SuperSamsung rom. So which ever one of u brave souls will be bold enough to test that please report back with your results....i'm assuming that the phone is disabled which means no calls on the ATT tab as it always is with every other samsung device? If so then i have created a modem thread which MAY help us out with that so once again whoever attempts to root would also need to flash that (link below)....if either of u guys locate an odin package for the ATT version (sprint/verizon too but for other purposes) then PLEASE provide me a link oh and if ANYONE figued out how to get this tablet to flash with heimdall a lil help would DEFINITELY be appreciated. Hopefully we wont run into locked bootloaders on the SM-T707A (could one of u please confirm if this is the correct/exact model number)...if i find out that flashing the brazillian radio will in fact enable voice with LTE bands then i will throw my T705 in the bushes in a heartbeat

^USA LTE & TALK THREAD
I don't think that CDMA has anything to do with it. I think it's more a question of size. The 10.5" LTE Tab S has a Snapdragon while the 8.4" LTE Tab S retains the Exynos. Why? I have no clue. An easy way to see if I'm right would be to see what T-Mobile's 10.5 has when it launches. If it too has a Snapdragon, then I think it's safe to say it's based on size.

Note 4 - Canadian Thread

So far we've been left in the dark as to the release day and price of the Note 4 but here is all the information that I have so far.
Pre-order Info:
Samsung Stores (Brick and Mortar) are doing a "pre-order" where you can either stop in or call and leave your information and which color of phone you want. When they get either a demo model or the actual phones to sell (my guess is the former), they'll contact you so you can have a look and secure your pre-order. My guess is that at this point they may require a deposit but I'm not 100% sure on that, neither was the person I spoke with.
Best Buy and Future Shop are also doing a pre-order where you have to put $50 down and you can save 20% off an accessory when the phone comes in. This is in store only. Scroll down a bit to see the advert, and it doesn't mention the $50 deposit online however it said that in the flyer.

Costco
I spoke with someone at Wireless Etc. which is located in Costco stores and he said that they had training on Oct. 7 for the Note 4 and that he presumed it would be an Oct. 17 launch day however nothing for the launch date had been confirmed.

Expansys.ca will ship "no later than Thursday" of you want to give them all your money. Apparently.
Don't
Before giving them 1000$+ be sure the model # is sm-n910w8 or else you will be very disappointed.
Expansys.ca
Ok, so I just confirmed that Expansys.ca ships the Exynos version.

You'd better double-check, maybe triple-check, because they told me it was Exynos first, then said:
"Jorge is incorrect. The SnapDragon model is the one that we will be receiving "
My confidence in them is quickly fading

I don't understand why Samsung doesn't just sell unlocked phones. That would make things so much easier.

I know, I find it completely ridiculous that so many of us WANT to spend our money on their phones, but it's so god damn difficult. My brother wanted an iPhone 6, he got it no problem. Me? Wait several weeks after launch and still don't get a price or delivery date... then have to find loopholes to get an unlocked phone without selling my right arm in the process.
Yo, Sammy! I've got money, so let me spend it! :victory:
Well have you seen how the iphone 6 launch was rushed. All the iOS 8 problems and iphone 6 issues. Samsung want to keep those problems as minimal as possible. The wait is going to be worth it

I don't mind a wait, but we don't even know how long we'll be waiting or how much we'll have to spend in the end. It's a really poor business practice.

It sucks too because I am in the position where renewing on a 2 year contract and losing my amazingly cheap 6GB plan would cost me more in the long run then buying the phone out right.
So I will be buying mine in full (hopefully not outrageously priced).
I find it ridiculous that they don't allow us to buy an unlocked clean from carrier bloat version off their website, however there is way if you live in Vancouver lol. In the Metrotown mall there is our 1 and only Samsung store in Canada and you can get the phones from there and I believe they are unlocked but you half to walk in to get them >_<
However unlocking a carrier one isn't a big deal anymore, because of the new CRTC ruling the carriers half to give you unlock codes if you want them and its limited to a max price of $50, but you can simply go to one of those 3rd party cell unlocking sites and get the Samsung unlock codes for your phone for $30 which is what I've always done to unlock my phones from Bell.
What bothers me too is that some places won't even sell a no term Note 4. I understand with the iPhone that Apple bars the selling of no term phones for 3 months because they want customers to come directly to them. However with Samsung it's different as there are not nearly as many Samsung stores as Apple stores and no matter what you can't buy the phone unlocked from Samsung it had to be liked to a carrier. They need to offer the phone through their online store and retail stores unlocked, it's as simple as that. Whether they ever smarten is another story.
The same goes for their launches, take a page out of Apple's book and have everything ready and 2 weeks out at most after the initial release party. Also they need to have prices when they do the unveiling. For all of us here it will be delayed gratification as we're getting the phone we know we want. But what about the how many other people out there that didn't want to wait and are now owning a new 6+. They may have the (imo) inferior device but they also didn't give Samsung a dime. People want things now at least in North America and are not willing to wait.
What does everyone think the Note 4 will cost? Same price as last year? I can't think off hand if the dollar has changed much in they last year which would bump our costs up. American pricing seems the same as last year I believe so maybe $750?
So it looks like it's Oct. 17 for Canada http://mobilesyrup.com/2014/10/01/samsungs-galaxy-note-4-to-arrive-in-canada-on-october-17/
It's funny because I had just talked to 2 Telus stores, and one said either the 4th or 14th and the other said their was a dealer forum happening on the 9th so it would be just before our after that.
Still no pricing yet.

All the Canadian Note 4 firmware's have been released on Samsung's Kies firmware update servers, Sammobile has them downloaded already for anyone who wish to get them as well. This is good news for us as Samsung Canada has a habit of making sure the firmware's are pre-available close to a release date to make sure that things go smoothly and on the off chance something needs to be reinitialized the full firmware is there for repair/recovery.
So with this our version of the phone should be just around the corner ^_^ , lets hope for no delays!
i got tired of waiting and got myself the Exynos version. using on Bell now, loving it. Didnt even have to setup access point for data.

What model from what region did you get? Most likely though you do not have the LTE access with the imported phone or only 2600MHz band in select few citys which isn't very good.
got the 910U...says 4G...im finding it way faster than my G3 that was on LTE???

Often outside of North America a lot of phones firmware's will use the term 4G for H+ (because of a technicality) and then for LTE they will show it as 4GLTE or just LTE.
You should be able to find more information on what the phone is using in the About section.
Thats not the case. It switches between 4G and H+. I use slingplayer everynight on my commute home. There is always minimum 4 spots where the video cuts out for at least 30 seconds each time. Tonight, my first with this device, never happened once. Also the clarity of the pictures and colour was bar far better than any other device ive used. My last 3 devices were Note 3, Z2 and LG G 3. Suggest somewhere for me to do a speed test and ill post results tomorrow.
Hope this info helps people.
Pre Orders gone live with Bell and Pricing revealed!

$799 CAD Buyout not bad, glad it didn't explode past that point.
They also revealed that the official launch date is the 24th when you mouse over the Order button.
