Stock Rom with Tethering - HTC One Mini 2

Hi all,
I got the HTC One M8 a few months ago but returned it because it was too big. Now I'm considering the HTC One Remix (although it kills me to accept the nerfed specs...).
I'm here looking for a stock ROM with the only change being it would allow me to tether without going through Verizon.
Removal of Verizon bloatware would be welcomed change as well
Haven't been able to find one.
Thanks!

[Q] USA Unlocked vs AT&T version

Hey guys - I currently own the One on AT&T and am loving it so far.
Are there any advantages to owning the AT&T version vs the USA unlocked version from HTC?
I'm thinking of returning the AT&T one and getting the unlocked version mainly so I can get HTC updates directly from HTC rather than waiting for AT&T to roll them out.
Both have LTE bands for AT&T, so that's not an issue.
Any reason why I should keep the AT&T one instead of the unlocked?
Thanks in advance.
The AT&T version has a fantastic logo on the back of the phone.

Also with the AT&T version you might have to wait an extra day to get a flashable ROM of the latest OTA

Since you can unlock the bootloader via htcdev and then load whatever rom you want it's probably not worth the hassle and restocking fee. Although I have the dev version it remains to be seen how htc will update this device or at what frequency. An update is already out for the international phones that has yet to make it to the dev. edition. I'm keeping mine stock for now, but may go the customer route at some point. Either version is a great phone.
If you would rather stay stock and still get the latest updates, get the unlocked or developer edition. If you don't mind unlocking your bootloader and flashing an RUU or custom ROM each time an update is released by HTC, stick with the AT&T version.

At least the unlocked and dev editions are already running a version of the 1.29 firmware though. The AT&T variant is still on 1.26, two major versions behind (1.26 -> 1.28 -> 1.29).

I've flashed 1.29 so could you please elaborate on what's considered "major" about 1.29 vs 1.26?

Camera is better. There are bluetooth fixes. Speakers can no longer go as loud (not all changes are necessarily positive depending on your point of view).
Search XDA. These changes have already been well discussed.

Strictly talking about the build number, 1.26 vs. 1.29 is major, whereas 1.29.xxx.3 vs. 1.29.xxx.13 is minor. Right now the AT&T version isn't far behind, but wait until something like 1.50 or whatever Android 4.2 corresponds with comes out and the AT&T version is left running 1.26 unless you unlock and ROM.

Thanks guys.
Are they updating the USA 32gb unlocked at the same frequency as the 64gb dev version? or will they update the 32gb the same time they update intl phones.
Also, if I flash new roms as they come out through the hacker channels, will I need to reinstall everything from scratch for each Rom upgrade?
Thanks again.

Also consider this, the developer edition comes with NO ATT BLOATWARE.
I have the 64 mb developer edition, just installed Visual Voice mail, LTE speeds are incredible,
and the IMEI was able to be used for the ATT network. This is as close to perfect
as you can get! Incredible piece of hardware.

Unless you're looking to get the phone subsidized, I see no reason to buy the AT&T model over the unlocked or developer one.
Only reason I can think of is dealing with AT&T for warranty issues is easier and faster than HTC.
I got the HTC unlocked 32GB version direct from HTC (arrived early...it was backordered and I paid for 2-day but HTC upgraded it to 1-day delivery. They shipped Saturday and I got it Monday).
What I noticed (coming from previous AT&T Note 2, S3 and Infuse) on AT&T...
1) no AT&T bloatware (as others have mentioned)...I was shocked how few apps were actually "running"...just a handful. I liked it.
2) tethering (no rooting required) for my occasional use of my iPad mini while on the road.
3) LTE is extremely fast compared to my Samsung's but not sure if that is a unlock versus AT&T issue?? Previously I just assumed LTE coverage was poor in my home. But with the HTC One it screams. Really surprised.
that's it.
So far I have avoided rooting since I want to become familiar with stock Sense, etc...then decide how much I want to play. I do expect to root eventually but stick to the popular stock-like roms (personally can't stand the CM's, etc.)

[Q] HTC One : SIM-Unlock Bell's to use on the videotron network

So here's my situation. My wife has a 4yo iphone4 with Bell right now and I have a 6month old Note 2 with videotron but after a few month I feel like its a bit too big for daily use for me (I use my phone 3-6h per day, also I need this carrier for my work). My wife dont care about getting a new phone and want to keep her iphone. I really want to get the HTC One but videotron is being really slow and still doesnt offer it.
Here's what I'm thinking of doing.
1. Get a HTC One under my wife phone number at Bell.
2. She would then put the SIM back into her old iphone 4
3. SIM-unlock the Bell HTC One (by rooting?)
4. Use my Note2 videotron SIM inside the Bell HTC One
Anyone ever tried this or know if it is even possible?
Thanks for readin.

[Q] HTC One on Ting (sprint network)

I am looking to get the HTC One and buy it though Ting and use it on Ting but I would like to install stock ANDROID on it I asked a Ting rep and was told - "We need access to Sprint-specific settings in order to complete activation and make sure it runs on the Sprints network through Ting, so you might not be able to activate it and use some features."
So my question is if I bought the HTC one through ting would I be able to install stock android on it and make it a google play edition and have it work fine?
Thanks to anybody that can help me. love the site just rooted my nexus 7 today!

What they mean by sprint specific might be certain ## codes which are only available through a sense rom. You should be able to activate it on a sense rom and then flash to a GE ROM. The only GE rom i know of though is still in beta and it doesn't work that great. CM10.1 is working fine though. It's as close to AOSP as you can get while also being stable.

Buying a Verizon HTC One overseas...

Hi,
I recently purchased a HTC One over here in the UK and a few weeks later, the phone got blacklisted. As I was massively out of cash I tried to eBay it and listed it with a bad IMEI/ESN. Somebody in the States got back to me and offered a swap with a Verizon HTC One. I'm not too experienced with the phone but I seem to remember hearing that a Verizon HTC One sometimes requires different methods for rooting or installing ROMs to the international versions. Can anybody guide me here whether or not I should be able to use the phone and root it/flash ROMs as I would with my original?
Thanks.

Installing ROMs are identical to the International One. Now, the bootloader unlock for the Verizon One doesn't happen through HTCdev. Rumrunner is required for unlocking the bootloader and S-OFF. Once the bootloader is unlocked, the custom recovery is flashed the same way as the International variant. Rooting is also the same.
However, there are certain issues with bootloader unlocking the Verizon One on Kitkat 4.4.2. Im not too sure about that, the Verizon forum for the One should guide you more in that area.
And, the ROMs for the Verizon will be listed on the Verizon One Android Development, not on the International One forum. There aren't as many ROMs for the Verizon as compared to International unlocked

If you're not on Verizon in the States, do NOT buy it. Pretty sure it won't work outside the US

Is it possible to install a custom ROM on the VZW variant of the Desire 626?

I recently picked up a used HTC Desire 626 at a yard sale for pretty cheap, but to my dismay it came with a bunch of pre-installed bloatware that I can't uninstall (Like Amazon Music, IMDB, Polaris Works, etc.). I know that VZW phones are often really annoying when it comes to flashing custom ROMS, but would it be possible to flash one on this phone? I have heard that flashing a ROM intended for a different carrier will work but possibly disable cellular capabilities (which is fine by me), is this true?
Thanks!
