Z3C Playing PS4 - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone clarify if the PS4 remote play feature is to be used only at home on the same wifi network as the PS4 or if it can be used anywhere with a fast enough connection such as 4G or a different wifi network say at a café?:
Thanks.:good:

I believe local network for now. Though remote play is in the pipeline for November I believe

Sony say that it's possible but it's not recommended.

Poor quality from Plex

I think I am getting poor quality from Plex when connected to the TV its pretty pixelated... anyone else have that? Or is it an option I haven't played with

Too little information to give you a good answer. But yes, there are options for streaming bandwidth for example that can affect quality.
On the main settings page on the plex app on the xoom, you can change bandwidth that it uses over local, over wan, and over 3g (not useful on wifi xooms). Above 2mbps and all my HD moves and tv shows look 100% HD on the xoom with no jitters, stutters, blurring, nor fragmentation. Couldn't be happier. I'm pretty sure that is the one major setting which will affect quality. That and the quality of the input video of course
edit: Also, I'm pretty sure there is an option to down-mix DTS to stereo on the server through the web browser interface. I would definitely recommend enabling that for playback on the xoom.
Ok all settings were on auto. Changes local to 5mbs but what is remote WiFi... when you are on WiFi but the media isnt?
Thanks

Remote Wifi is when you are still on Wifi, but a different network from your server (at a friend's or halfway across the world). The most important factor here is the upload speed capability of your server. I keep my Local at 5mbps, remote at 2mbps, and don't have 3g so can't comment on the last option (mobile broadband, 3g, or whatever they have it labeled, cant remember).
edit: Check out the Plex wiki on their website. It will answer pretty much every question you can think of. Extremely informative.
Looking better already! Odd that auto doesn't set itself pretty good when its local!
Also anyone have issues with video freezing when going into settings or pausing and the screen locking?

No issues here, everything works perfectly.

The developer mentioned somewhere that the auto detection is pretty poor and that they would be working on it more in the future. The other advice about tweaking for each connection type is spot on as well

[GUIDE] How to fix media streaming issues with routers

Ok so when I received my Nexus 7 I had a lot of issues with streaming media on my ISP router. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure this out and thought maybe it was a hardware issue with my device. So what I did was simple. I downloaded Wifi Analyzer app from the Google Play Store. Open up the app and click on Settings. Once you get into the settings you'll see "Channel Settings" option. For 2ghz all of the channels for mine were already checked. Click on the 5 GHZ option if you have it and scroll all the way to the bottom. Make sure the higher mhz channels are checked. Exit out of the app and test to see if media streams better. If not you might have to mess around with the "Scan Interval" settings. Hope this helps it helped me a lot!
What software are you using for streaming?
Not sure what you mean. For movies e.g. transformers I use the stock video app and YouTube and that's about it. Works great now after fixing it this way.

I thought the Nexus 7 was 2.4ghz only?
I believe that available channels setting only affects the channels the Wifi Analyzer app will look at and display in the Channel Rating view of the app.
Interesting, not sure how I fixed my issue I was having before then

yeah, me too (confused). i'm not 100% sure but i'd be mighty surprised if a wifi analyzer app changed the frequencies on which your device was looking for a signal. great app by the way, it has helped me in more than one wifi situation.
i just started combing these forums as i plan on getting a nexus 7 in a few days :-D
Here's one way to help with streaming... gets your own router and don't use those isp owned ones.
This one is great for all needs, even has built in upnp and 2 usb ports for hard drives.

Will my note link to my xbox360

Is there a way to have my xbox360 connect to my note. I would like to stream movies from phone to xbox360
No problem. Your x box is a dlna compatible device. As long as the file is playable using the stock player, you can stream to the xbox.
I have accidently sent photos to my son's 360 when I first used this phone. Did not know what the icon was in the gallery hit it and the next thing I know my son is yelling at me to quit sending things to him.

Is there a setting or something I need to turn on. Even when I open my photo gallery I don't see the icon to send to xbox360 or tv
Nope, if you are using the stock gallery, the icon is right on top when you open an image. It's the icon next to the 'share with' icon. Make sure your xbox and note are on the same wireless network and that you're not in a game.
Of so that's the problem..I have the xbox hardwired to router
They just need to be on the same network. It doesn't matter if one is hardwired and one is wireless. That is how my Xbox is setup and it works with it.

Both are are the same network. Here is what I try. xbox is on and connected to xbox live I open gallery on phone and I don't see the little icon to let me switch over.
Barnacle wireless tether worked great on my HTC. Try it out for root user's only
Be careful if you plug your phone into the xbox, mine grounded within and right now it is a brick. I tried it with my iPhone about a week ago. I think I plugged it in at the wrong time or something, I read it's an issue with the 360.

Barnacle works great with x box
Go to settings>connections and enable "Nearby devices" to share media over DLNA.
I remembered seeing tis option when I was first playing with my phone. I don't have any DLNA devices, aside from my Note 3, so I don't really no if this will fix your issue.
hope that helps.
Guess my xbox is screwed then. I open settings share with nearby devices and it does not find my box. My xbox is only few months old.

[Q] Live TV Streaming

guyz, whats the Best Live TV streaming app on Android???
There really isn't one that could be considered the best. They are all marginal. Service based apps (home subscription necessary) or a Slingbox or similar device are all that I use. Most apps are Web links or for USA residents, all foreign TV.

TV in streaming was my obsession as I always saw that a kind of mega feature on our devices like the big deal but actually this Apps development are not the biggest one.
After trying many, at this moment I think one of the good one is this one.
I've used filmon live a few times and it's been fine.

Chromecast over WiFi AP

I have a nexus 5 and use the WiFi tethering to run my Chromecast. I use another android device to operate it, and it works great, but something confused me...
I read somewhere that the device running a tethered network can't communicate with other devices on that network. It's just how android works. And its a bummer.
However I recently saw that I can cast from G+ photos on the device running the tethered network, my nexus. Also the new mirror feature sees Chromecast but won't connect. I was able to mirror pretty well at a friend's house using an actual router so I know this is a working feature.
So my question... Does anyone have an explanation to why my nexus can see my Chromecast from these apps? Netflix doesn't see it and the Chromecast setup app won't run at all when the WiFi is tethering. It would be something pretty incredible if it was some hidden thing we could unlock in those apps...
Eh?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Only the tethering app has access to the tether network...
All the other apps use the normal data connection....
Since they are not connected to the Tethering network they can not see the CCast.
it's possible, instead
