I messed up really bad. No download mode. - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I was trying to update and root my friend's phone. It was in 2.3.6 or whatever the default Android was on it .
First of all, I couldn't get into download mode and other way than using ADB.
I wanted to root it. I folowed this guide, but the phone's baseband was not on the list. I just decided to go with the Hungarian once, since I'm Hungarian. After flashing the sound of the phone was bad and it was losing signal all the time. It could receive messages but couldn't send any.
After this, I've updated to 4.1 from Sammobie where I found a Hungarian firmware for the matching carrier. (T-Mobile) Still no signal.
Last, I tried to fix the signal by flashing the old 2.3.6 version, a Hungarian one with matching carrier.
Now the phone got briced and freezes on the Samsung logo. When charging it only shows that "loading" icon. I can't access download mode in any phisical way. Tried. Can't access through ABD because the phone isn't booting.
So, if I do this USB Jig, will my phone boot automatically to Download mode when connected, or I shouldn't bother with it? Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks in advance! Have a nice day!

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it right now.
But I'm not sure if it will work because I couldn't boot into Download mode by buttons even when the phone was working well.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that they work. Before I tried to flash back the 2.3.6 the buttons had worked perfectly. I couldn't use the buttons to get into download or recoery mode even when the phone was "intact".

While trying to get into download mode, be sure that cable is not connected to phone, and release all three buttons 1 second after you feel vibration

I see. I'm about to make the USB Jig that I've linked in before. Hope It will work.
Also, what kind of things modify that file? Custom ROMs, basebands?

That file (if not manually touched) is touched only through Odin tar.md5.

Solder quality isn't perfect lol
I used 3 resistors, one 1KOhm and two 150KOhm in series to have 301KOhm (without calculating tolerance, 5%)
MicroUSB type B male pinout
Solder resistor/s between pins 4 and 5

Well, I only flashed one file, which I assume was the whole firmware in one package. (I9070XXLK2_I9070TMHLK1_HOME.tar.md5) If you mean this, maybe this was the problem.
Anyway, thanks for the images, altrough I read that I need exactly 300k Ohm.

Bricked Droid 3

Can't get my phone into recovery at all after trying to get the new up date. Only way it comes on is by plugging it into the wall, and the only way to get it to turn off is to pull the battery. Besides the Motorola sign when it is on, that is all it does right now. I think what caused this is using safestrap instead of boot strap. Here are more details from a convo with an acquaintance. BTW, I've tried the technique for getting it to boot in recovery a 1000 times but have been unsucessful.

homescreen looks sick man. Liking the launcher too.
Been waiting on the Galaxy Nexus...going to drop my X for this.
What's up?
Thanks. Btw, I fell asleep waiting on the files to transfer to my phone. When I woke up it was bricked
I backed up EVERYTHING on the sd, I just need to figure out how to get the phone past the bootloop now. Hopefully I can get it done connected to the laptop, but any advice would be appreciated. The guys on xda were a little vaugue on the directions.
Did you clear data/cache before installing the files?
I would boot back into recovery and do this. It won't delete the files you just installed, just all the old data (system settings, etc) in your phone.
I'd try a few battery pulls first.
If that doesn't work, enter into recovery from here:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/d...-recovery.html
And wipe data/cache, then reboot.
If I plug it into a power source, the motorola emblem comes up, but nothing else. It won't even power off. Power + X or M doesn't do a damn thing, and if I plug it into my computer it also does nothing at all. The laptop doesn't even recognize it or even try to charge it as far as I can tell.
After Power + X did you hit the volume buttons in the guide like it says?
You probably did but just wanted to make sure.
You're only other choice seems to flash a fastboot file.
These are about the easiest instructions you'll find.
I've never done on a D3, but looks right to me.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4370-sbf-...959-and-56890/
Don't turn on your phone to charge it, leave it off and charge it.
Unless you can tell me how to install/uninstall programs located on the internal and external memory of the phone when I can't get it to turn on (even in recovery mode), I'm fairly certain I'm screwed. I believe that my only hope originally was to be able to access the memory via laptop to be able to get it into recovery. That ROM I put on had to use this http://www.hash-of-codes.com/files/Droid3Safestrap.apk, which won't work for the factory update, which has to use this http://download.clockworkmod.com//te...3Bootstrap.apk. So even though I have all the programs that I need on the memory of the phone to get the factory update then reinstall the custom ROM, I can't get the phone on so that I can install and uninstall the programs necessary for recovery. I should never have messed with my phone when I was half asleep to begin with.

Well, I got it unbricked, but it was a real trick to get it done. Like I mentioned before, I suspected an issue with battery power, because when it was plugged in for charging, the screen stayed on with the motorola logo displayed. As everyone knows, this uses a lot of power. Even being plugged in to the wall (phone WOULD NOT turn off), it was using most of the power that was supposed to be charging the battery. This is what I did to bypass the problem.
1. Let charge all night
2. Hit X + power (M + power WOULD NOT work) simultanously, then slowly inserted phone end of USB cord that was already plugged into the wall
3. After the Motorola logo displayed on the screen, I closed the keyboard and waited for the Andoid avatar to be displayed. Once he popped up, I hit the volume button up and down at the same time, which FINALLY got it into recovery.
4. Factory reset by toggleing to that option and hitting power button.
5. Once factory reset was complete, I selected the ZIPPED leak update and hit the power button.
6. After update completed, system reboot. Phone kept its root status and the DarkDroid ROM
Btw, does this info look right (asking anyone who knows). Phone is supposed to be updated with Verizon update, rooted, and running DarkDroid ROM

Verizon is weird about their update names. if youre going from 1.1.1 to 2.2.2, then the update name would be Verizon.1.1.1 I have no idea why.

My Samsung Galaxy Ace won't turn on!!!!!

Hello, recently i've flashed my galaxy ace with rom manager (ClockworkMod) so i can make the partition thing to my sd card, so i flashed it, turn it off, and then i won't turn on. I can't even charge my phone! I tried to turn it on in reboot mode but it doesn't do anything. I even tried to turn on download mode and nothing. Not even the samsung logo shows up. Nothing! I'm desesperated, I don't know what to do now. I'm new in this forum, so I will be very very thankful if someone could help me on this. Please.
First, ROM MANAGER BRICKS SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE!
Second, YOUR PHONE IS DEAD. TRY A USB JIG OR GOTO SERVICE CENTER.
Third, WHO TOLD YOU TO USE ROM MANAGER?
Fourth, LIE TO SERVICE CENTER TELLING THAT YOU WERE CHARGING YOUR PHONE AND IT TURNED OFF AND IT NEVER TURNED ON. DO NOT MENTION WORDS LIKE "BRICK","ROOT","ROM MANAGER".
Fifth, Welcome to the world of XDA Developers. DO read the threads with a pin icon in front (A.K.A Sticky)

I never understand, that people who buys a new device, why don't read something about it??? Before I buy my Ace, I read a lot about it, I knew, that it's prohibited to use Rom Manager on Ace... There's a lot of info about it...
Another lost to the dark side of rom manager. Rip the poor thing.
Firstly..CWM ROM Manager?
and ROM manger for partition? all you needed was the CWM Recovery.
We have stickies here for a reason and if you dont read them, do not create new threads when you have problems..

This actually happened to my phone. Is it a known fault? Is there a way to repair it without taking it to a service centre 30 miles away?
Your device wont turn on?
I wonder why?
Perhaps its got something to do with the fact that you have broken your device into pieces. Not literally but oh well u get the point.

You probably downloaded a corrupt update .
I give up writing anymore signatures.
Hello, this is my first post here on XDA
A friend of mine has the same problem like the OP and "opthy":
I installed the XLD1 FW over his old FW because of rooting (without increasing the binary counter). I said to him he shouldnt do FW Updates OTA from now on. And what do you think he did, huh? :silly:
The phone rebooted into recovery he said, did the FW update and tried to reboot, but it couldnt reboot. He gave it to me, and I tried to get it into recovery = didnt work! Tried to get it into Download-Mode = didnt work! The phone does nothing now, i tried to charge it, but the screen stays black.
I just wanted to ask you, if theres anything I can do. All things that have to do with download-mode e.g. ODIN or recovery via KIES cannot work because I cant put it in download-mode.
Thanks in advance
5-7
P.S.: Im an P990 owner and I had many many problems with it until I got it working properly, but such a problem, that the screen always stays black and the device is "not a bit" booting, I never had before

Could You share any changes you notice after the upgrade??
The update have also popped on my phone yesterday. Is it really safe to update? By the way mine is XXLD1 and the update is to XXLK2. I'm really scared to update because I bought my phone from the grey market(much cheaper hahaha). Another reason is I want a white SGSA and the only one available was from europe and I'm in the Philippines so warranty might not be on my reach.
Is it worth the upgrade? cause if its not the I would just wait for the JB update next year.

Try to run in compatibility mode with xp ... Got windows enabler on ?
i think the guide there at step 7 is a bit wrong. how can you disable the phone and flash the rom ? if the pc cant "see" the machine connected , is it even possible ? ...
it didnt work. when i installed the usb drivers the windows couldnt recognise the phone. i switched the driver from mobile to portable something. i had only 2 available choices at the manage section if i didnt check to show compatible only machines. after switching to that driver... ( curse windows and their bugs ) , automatically switched back to mobile.... and my phone was connected to my pc....after that i continued with the flash rom and now its back working. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im new to android. i has iphone since years.

Well man, it worked for me the way the guide is, with some workarounds due to win7 incompatibilities.
If I helped you dont forget to hit thanks button ahah
I know the feeling, I had an ipod touch which I tweaked a lot, but since I had my first android... Can't even imagine going back to IOS

Update!

I received my phone today (and it's gorgeous) and there was an update straight out of the box. The only way I found to install it is by first downloading it then power the phone down. Then power it back on by holding the volume up and power buttons at the same time. You'll boot into the recovery mode and select update from SD card and you'll see the zip file there select using the power button and stroll using the volume keys. The update is a little slow but it does improve the overall speed of the phone from my perspective too new to truly tell of course

Never had to do all that with mine. It prompted me to download the update and then when done i could install now or later.

My phone did all of that but would not complete the update and kept giving me an error message so that's what I had to do to get it to work.
don't put the SIM card in and you'll have no issues. just boot the phone and it'll prompt for wifi, skip that, then it'll ask to add 'Google' account, skip that and then it'll ask for first name and last name; which is optional too.
i skipped everything and was able to be logged in the phone. so it didn't do an auto update because there was no network connectivity.
anyone know what was new from the update?
Just got an update too, when it rebooted to apply update, it went to recovery saying ERROR.
Such fail. I'll flash it manually like OP. Thanks.
Edit: What folder is it in? I don't see it anywhere.
Decided to try Update normally again and it worked.
I tried at least five times myself and kept getting the error message. I'm glad you got it to update for you.

Did you have it plugged in to your computer? I had it plugged in to my PC and when it first rebooted I heard my PC make some USB detecting noises and for some reason my mouse died when it did that.
I unplugged it and tried the update again and it worked. Might be coincidence, might not be /shrug.
Update failed on me too. Said unpack failure or something similar. So I just redownloaded and then it went through fine. Hadn't put Sim card in yet and was not plugged into computer.
First time ever for an update to fail on one of my phones and I've been at this for awhile.
Blu has something amiss on their end.
But must say for 99.00 I'm impressed

Mine was fine. Put in sim and setup. Updated went fine and done. No issue
Quick heads up for some of you guys...... My update was failing for the most part. Until I decided to take out the microsd card from my phone.
Once I removed the SD card I checked for an update again and voila it worked flawlessly. I'm not sure what the issue was/is. I can only assume that it has to do with not being able to store properly.
If the same issue has happened to you, you can also try to see if checking "install from SD" will work. That is something I didn't think of before removing the card.
Again simply remove the card and give it another go.
Hope this helps.

Does anyone have a copy of the Update file OR the Stock Rom file for the Blu Vivo XL or know where to get it?
I'd like to have one in case I brick my phone while playing with it. I can use the SP Flash Tool to flash the phone back to stock. I stupidly didn't save the update file when the phone updated.
Thanks.
Please, for some reason I softbrick my phone, it is in the bootloop now. I need the update.zip file if someone is willling to help. Million thanks.

"for some reason"??? You mean you tried to root it and then bricked it? That would make more sense. Good luck.

Yep, I did try to root. But just softbrick. Still able to get into the OEM recovery / fastboot section. Just need ROM / firmware if available.
