Why did you decide to stay with the N4 after the N5 was released?

I actually bought the N5 before getting the N4. The fact is, I'm gonna get all of the Nexus devices (all new in box) just because I can. And I plan on using most of them.
But anyway, for those that aren't as Nexus obsessed as me, why did you stay with the N4? I know one answer I'm going to hear: "because it still does what I need". (fair enough)
Just interested in what people think.

I stayed with the N4 because I think it's more handy. It's a little smaller than the nexus 5 and since I have smaller hands I prefer the nexus 4. Also, the nexus 5's earpiece is weird (atleast for me)

I stayed because I didnt find mych difference and also Im in a condition that buying a new device will probably waste my time ! And also planing to move to google silver or iphone 6

Hey, I totally understand why someone would stay with the N4. To be honest, I have relatively small phone needs. My Moto G actually did everything I needed and more. (I gave it to my mom) While we're at it, I bet the Galaxy Nexus would be more than enough for most people. But some people just like having the best. Not that I need it, I just like having it.
No doubt the Nexus 4 is still a strong player in the market. It will have no problem running 5.0
I just wish there was a CandyKat rom for the N4.

I know, a lot of people whom I've told about the earpiece think of it as a weird reason. I, however, just didn't like the design of the phone. But hey, that's just me. I love the moto g and x. They're both very handy phones and pretty solid performers too!

my reason :
- I got my N4 cheap (got $100 discount when I bought it).
- screen density is more than enough for my poor eyes. (tell you the truth I really can tell differences between 415ppi vs 318ppi).
- CPU sector, for me myself my nexus 4 is already fast enough. I mean this is a phone not a laptop/pc, I don't need huge clock speed or ram to play games.

I haven't owned a Moto X, but I know all about it. I bought the Moto G and was very happy with it. My tech-ego got in the way and told me I need a Nexus 5. I don't regret it one bit.

Why did you decide to stay with the N4 after the N5 was released?
I guess because not everyone is as independently wealthy as you. Geez, I just bought the thing only a year and a half ago. Assuming that someone keeps making OS updates for this phone on this forum to keep up with security updates, I will keep it for around the same time-frame as I refresh my main desktop computer, about 5 to 7 years. Heck, my older second desktop computer is 11 years old and runs various versions of Linux as well as XP just fine (Although I disabled XP because it was finally discontinued.) I understand it is the constantly changing hardware that forces Google to very quickly stop supporting OS upgrades on older devices (really just an excuse to sell more devices), but it is really ridiculous that my Nexus 4 will shortly become obsolete by Google's standards, unlike Microsoft who supports their operating systems for a very reasonable amount of time.

I stayed with my Nexus 4 because Nexus 5 didn't offer a significant difference in performance. I was able to compare that side by side, and the performance of my Nexus 4 was just fast as Nexus 5. So i saw no point in change.
As i'm a non gamer guy, i think Nexus 5 will perform better games than Nexus 4, but i really don't play much.
Personally speaking, changing phone every year (some people always want to stay on fashion), seems to me like throwing money away, i think it's better change of 2 in 2 years, then you'll notice more technology improvement.
Another situation, was when i saw the Nexus 5...i was totally disappointed with his design..i mean look at the Nexus 4...it has an amazing design, glass on the back, all seems to be in harmony.
In Nexus 5 it's just a phone...don't know...lack of personality, i guess....lol
Now, i'll be waiting for Nexus 6...let's see if it worth...

Most of the replies posted in the thread apply to me as well. Some additional thoughts that kept me away from the n5:
It feels better in my hands and the size was perfect. The main things I liked were the corners of the nexus 4 were more curved than the 5, and that the tapered edges of the n4 screen felt natural.
I also preferred the n4's "discrete" camera compared to the gigantic wart that's on the back of the n5.

I stayed because I won't jump to another phone until I see significant improvement in technology as nowadays it's just spec bumps. I think the 4th is more than enough to last for another 2 years. I'll probably change next year with the coming of L and 64bit phones and only if it really matters. Oh, and I'm not rich enough to change phone every year ?

My reason? Saving up my money for my masters degree studies.

I got the N4 on contract which isn't up until March next year.
Being a student I couldn't afford to buy it outright, and obviously couldn't afford to buy the N5 when it came out.
I will, however, be buying the Nexus 6 the moment it's released. I should have my student loan through by then.
Priorities, right?

I think the Nexus 4 is a gorgeous looking phone (I'm a sucker for the glitter back) and I like how the edges curve as well, it is a unique design. It's also one of the most comfortable device to grip. Lastly, the size of the screen and phone are very similar to the Moto X, which is the ideal size for me. I believe LG went with cheaper production cost with the N5. I originally sold my N4, but when Android L preview image was announced, I was dying to try it out, so I bought another N4. I'm not planning to sell it again (I hope), there is a charm about this device that I like.

I to am a nexus lover. I did buy a n5, I do use it as my daily phone for the most part. but I do occasionally use my n4 as my phone as well. actually, I use my n4 and n5 every day. my n4 I use daily as a WiFi device at work. and it is still a great device! but those that say that the n4 is on par with the n5 when it comes to speed, are just kidding themselves. sure, in the ui, its just as fast as my n5. heck, my gnex is as fast in the ui as my n5. but I'm not talking ui, as any phone(even my nexus s) can have a fast ui if you set it up right. I'm talking opening apps/process, and computing. the n5 blows my n4 away when it comes to apps opening, and the speed of actually computing. anyways, that doesn't take away from my n4, as I do love it as part of my family

I stayed because it wasn't that BIG of an upgrade from the N4 to be honest. Definitely getting the N6 whenever its announce/released.

I got the my Nexus 4 when Google put them on sale last year before the 5's release. I'm in the process of convincing the wife that I need (aka want) a Nexus 5.

Nexus 6 - How does it compare?

My first thread there but long time follower of this forum.
I know that we don't have any reviews of the Nexus 6 yet (well nothing substantial enough anyway) and I'm not sure when we will get these, but I have some questions.
1. Is there any point in getting the Nexus 6 when you can potentially get the Note 4 Developer Edition? Same specs overall, slightly smaller screen, potentially better cameras, slimmer.
2. I saw some posts about this before but my question is more specific: Assuming the Nexus 6 gets the previous generation of Samsung's screen (like the Note 3/GS4) - will it have any tweaks to bring it up to scratch? Surely they wont just use the old tech and extend the size of the screen & bump resolution will they? If they did that wouldn't the screen still maintain the same issues as before (low brightness, not as vidid colours etc)? I'm curious to see how the screen really performs IF it is the old tech. I do not think there is any chance at all that the Nexus 6 will use the same screen as the Note 4. This is a Moto phone after all...not a Samsung flagship.
3. Without the advanced camera tech (in regards to shutter speed etc) included in the G3 and iPhone 6+, do you think that the Nexus 6 will be noticeably slower at taking pictures compared with other phones? I see much discussion on this but ultimately this core question has no clear answers (I guess we'll have to wait for reviews but Im asking anyway; I've not seen many good reviewers on shutter speed. E.g. back when the Galaxy Nexus was released I read it was "super super fast" at taking pictures...it takes from 1 to 3 seconds to snap now).
4. At over 1cm thick and with such a large display how solid is this phone expected to be if it is dropped? Im not familiar with Moto phones but if I drop a Galaxy in normal use the screen is usually fine and there is not much more than scratches. I dropped my Nexus 5 on its back once and the entire front of the screen was destroyed. Just curious about the build quality and what is expected here - I've read mixed things about Moto quality so far.
5. If I shell out for two Nexus 6 phones now (yes I need two; one for me and one for my girlfriend) do you think that they will be good for 2 years of use? Or would it be wiser to purchase two Nexus 5 devices now and upgrade to the Nexus '7' phone (or whatever it will be) next year? I ask because this is still 32bit and we are on the cusp of a new era of 64bit Android phones. I feel like the Nexus 6 (while up to date now) will be significantly outpaced (more than usual) come this time next year. I just don't want to be caught out.

Welcome to XDA and may I say an excellent first post !!
1. It depends on what you feel about a physical home button, and what rom you want to run. Running Samsung's software means you won't get pure Android, and running Android means you'll have to give up multi-window, stylus etc. But you would in both cases have removable battery, sd card and an amazing screen. Nexus 6 can't match the first two.
2. Chances of screen matching the Note 4 are very low, but it is a premium device and should use a nice panel with few compromises
3. The camera should be better, the hands on from Verge even commented on it and it seemed pretty fast in the video. The sensor is not the same as Note 4 but it does have better low light performance.
4. Dropping a phone can have wildly different results based on angle. Moto phones have good build quality
5. Its your decision, are you willing to buy 2 N6's, and next year sell and upgrade to the next Nexus? Will you be on contract? You can get one N5 and one N6 to cover both bases.
A lot of your questions will get answered once reviews come out in a few weeks. But if you feel an unholy lust for the phone like some of us do then there really is no decision to be made and its already decided

You've made some good points and thanks for the input on the Moto phone quality. I might consider getting 1 N6 for my girlfriend and I might get a replacement N5 (currently we both do have any good phones to use to last us another year.); both would be off contract of course as we are in Australia (purchase directly from Google or Moto unlocked).
I guess I'll have my fingers crossed for a detailed review (or two) to be released just before the presale opens.

Do you have the option of purchasing phones from Xiaomi, Oppo etc in Australia? They make some great phones at very good prices, just a suggestion. I personally am a big fan of Xiaomi due to their MIUI rom.

I've never heard of the Xiaomi before but I will look into that thank you! I'm not sure if we have the option to get it here; I've heard of the Oppo but I've never seen one before. I must do some research on this phone too.

I've looked into the advice in this thread and I've come across an upcoming phone - Vivo PD1305 (specs below).
Questions:
- Are the build quality on these kinds of phones comparable to the Nexus 6/Galaxy series?
- Are the screens comparable to the N6/Galaxy series?
- What about the cameras, radios & sound?
I'm just not sure but the specs on the phone I've mentioned are extremely impressive and what (in my opinion) the Nexus 6 SHOULD have included. Also the price is about $300 cheaper than the Nexus 6 (in Australia).

Hell, while we are at it why not include direct SAT communications and free HW upgrades for life?
There is a difference between dream and reality. One is the one we are living in now, the other is where I can dream up a fusion reactor battery and antigrav stability for drop protection. Just be damn grateful we are getting a Nexus at all this year considering how likely Silver was and how likely ARA might be taking Nexus over next year.

No need for sarcasm as the specs for the phone that I posted are pretty legitimate sounding, and some sources claim 100% real. Also looking at their previous model (nearly a year old) as well as the current (and upcoming) competition in China - the specs I posted for the above phone are not only possible, but will very likely exist before the Nexus 6 is but a few months old.
These Chinese manufacturers are progressing far faster than the Nexus series (or many other Android phones) have ever done. Under 6mm thick, 3500mh+ battery, Snapdragon 805+ processor, 3gb RAM+, QHD 6" screen etc is totally within reason on the latest Chinese manufacturer phones.

What's next for Nexus 5 users??

Hopefully i'm not alone on an island when I say that the Nexus 6 is just too large for me. If i wanted a phablet, there are other alternatives. Having said that i was just curious what the future of Nexus is going to be? I suppose it's way too early to know, but just wanted to put my mind at ease because ever since the latest release, I'm really at a loss as to what my next phone purchase will be?
We now have the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10? Will they refresh the current screen sizes with newer hardware? I really hope so cause screen size is the biggest factor now for me in terms of buying a nexus. If the nexus 4 had a refresh, i would have totally gone with that. Thoughts anyone?

If you're looking for your next phone, I HIGHLY recommend the new Moto X. Gorgeous and powerful hardware, stock Android with a few actually useful and innovative additions, and it's sold for a great price. I have both the N5 and Moto X and the X is an upgrade in every way, and IMO is the spiritual successor to the N5.

After not being able to get N6 64gb the last 3 weeks & playing with one at a tmobile store, I've decided its too big! My Nexus5 is still rocken for now. I'll be watching S810 device's announcements at CES Jan. 5, 2015. Maybe a Sony Xperia Z4/Z4 Ultra, M9 or other newly branded devices. Thin frame, stereo front speakers, 5.5 to 5.7 screen, unlockable, etc are my preferences...

Nah. Last year, I wanted at least a 5" 1080p display. Nexus 5 was close enough.
Agreed the NEXUS 6 is too large. Not the display, the entire phone. Anything larger than the LG G3 is too big for a phone, for me.
This year I wanted at least 5.2" 1440p (preferably the size of the LG G2) with Snapdragon 805. As late as mid-August Google was testing a 5.2" 1440p with Snapdragon 805 to be the NEXUS 6. But instead they they stupidly went with the monstrosity, and let Motorola release the 5.2" version as the Moto Maxx/Droid Turbo.
So in getting the Moto Maxx in spite of the silly capacitive buttons.

I'll have to check out the Motorola phones then, but the goal really for me is something smaller than 5 inches, but a "nexus" device for the fast updates.

Yea I'm in the same boat. The N6 is insanely big especially for my hands and there's really nothing that stands out about it besides fast updates. Now that it's nearly twice as much its put itself in a completely new category against the note 4 which literally destroys it in every way besides the front speakers and updates (I also prefer no buttons but since the galaxy phone home buttons are now fingerprint scanners it doesn't seem as bad) and I don't ever use the speaker in the phone besides occasionally showing a friend a YouTube vid or notifications. I'm between a note 4 and just keeping my n5 until s810s start popping up.

all the reviews for the Moto X (2014) cite a mediocre battery life and hit or miss camera results. Those are literally the two things holding back the N5.

Exactly. The Moto X could have been the top phone on the market but they failed on battery and cam. So I'm leaning toward the Droid Turbo, but I'm still not sold on it. The size is tolerable (N5 seems just right. N6 is ridiculous) and battery isn't as good as they claim but still far better than N5. Camera, I'm not sure. Mixed reviews I think.

Is the moto x even an upgrade in any area? The software seems to be what people like. The hardware is basically the same in every day use as a nexus 5 isn't it?

Nexus 6 is too big for hands, that's for sure. No way you're going to one-hand that with a cup of coffee in the other and still slide your metrocard to get on the subway. And forget about getting that thing into your pocket.
Why did they ruin our Nexus? And why are they charging twice as much? I'm actually very sad about all of this. Now I'm stuck with deciding between the Moto X and the Droid Turbo. Sucks.
You know what? I'm just gonna keep my Nexus 5. This phone rocks. Google just sent me a free refurb replacement, and with Lollipop, it feels like I have a brand new phone.

Nexus 5 is still a great smartphone and still a superb buy, even this time next year it still be decent and rocking with whatever latest Android is by then, plus hopefully Google will see sense and go back to a 5" or 5.2" screen & give either HTC or Sony a bash at a Nexus Smartphone, or better still have 2 Nexus Smartphones Phablet and standard to keep everybody happy.

I was very very close to getting a moto x, but after flashing lollipop, my Nexus was like a brand new device and I decided I would stick with it for a bit.
Then I was lucky enough to get an invite for the oneplus the other day and it is expected to arrive this weekend. We will still if that is a worth successor without being too big.

For now, I'll keep using the Nexus 5, although I initially wanted to buy the Nexus 6.
Unfortunately, the significant price increase (Nex 6 costs about 300 EUR more than a Nex 5 in the German Play Store) forced me to do the decision not to buy it. I primarily need a good developer phone, and 650 EUR for the Nex 6 is just waaaay to much money.

I'm holding out to see what Samsung and HTC do in the spring. GS6 and M9. Nothing from this year impresses me. Scratch that... Note 4 hardware is impressive, but TouchWiz still kills it, as always.

Probably gonna wait for the nexus release next year. Price is way too high for a nexus 6. I'm good with a 5.in fact I bought a used one about a month ago and it's still a very fantastic phone for its price. I'm kicking myself now for not buying it 1year earlier.

LG G3 with cyanogenmod for the win phone has the right hardware, size, removable battery , now we just need the right ROM. Until then I'll stick to the N5.

I was wanting the Xperia Z3, but ****ing Sony and their DRM removal when you unlock the bootloader... the camera turns to **** and the modem/radio doesn't even work when you unlock the bootloader! I'm watching the Note 4.

[Q] Is the nexus 6 amazing/worth it? I'm close to buying one..

Okay well. Right now i have the oneplus one. Its a great phone and i like it and all... But no android l support yet (no cm12s), my touch screen is going bad, support is eh... and im just wanting to buy something that has been improved over many years... And is reliable. opo is kinda new.. with a single device.
So i thought of the nexus 6. It looks and feels amazing (as i have held/saw one) scores really nice on benchmarks despite the quad hd display.
My opo currently has the bamboo back (swap cover) and its in perfect condition, should be worth a good amount, and i get paid soon. So now i am tempted to buy the nexus 6.
Afew questions.
Firstly, I am all about having fast/latest hardware, so here is where my concern comes in. Is this nexus 6 a first of a soon soc snapdragon 805? Because i remember when the nexus 5 was out, half a year later there was a much better soc snapdragon 801. I know the nexus 6 will be fast, but i am just thinking ahead..
Next, is $700+ (as i would get the 64gb one) worth it?.. Its a HUGE jump from the previous $400 32gb nexus 5.. I thought nexus devices were always going to be cheap.. I mean, a bigger screen, a better build quality and snapdragon 805.. that's about all.
Middle, Will it be worth alot by next year when the next nexus arrives? (for resale purposes)
And lastly, should i just go for the nexus 6? And stay in the nexus line.. Or wait for a snapdragon 810 model phone to release.. As 64bit is arriving this year.
PS: Is metro PCS supported?

Snapdragon 810 is just around the corner, the LG G Flex 2 will be using SD 810. You can have the best hardware possible but if the software is not optimized for it then that hardware is not fully utilized to its fullest potential. In my opinion, get a phone with good development support from the community, not a phone because it has better specifications.
The question of the N6 being "worth it" is subjective and no one can answer that but yourself. You posting a thread in here will attract people say "yeah its worth it, get it ASAP" because you're in Nexus territory but if you're in the OPO territory, they would say no because OPO has a better value. Both phones have its pros and cons, the decision of whether the "N6 is worth it" is not as black and white.
Will it be worth a lot? I don't predict the future, but it most likely will retain a large % of its value. Nexus 5 is still a popular phone and people are still buying them.
Should you go for the N6? I already answered this. I personally was using the OPO and switched to a N6, the OPO community is great but it was no where as good as the Nexus line of devices. Snapdragon 810, don't really care about it unless a Nexus has its name to it.
If development is something you care about when it comes to a phone, a Nexus won't disappoint.

Not going to lie though, the opo is a great value phone where the specifications don't compromise. It's a very hot phone and the development is pretty good as I've owned one. The development is better than some of the other non nexus devices.
Essentially you're paying to have a bigger screen and front facing speakers as well as a number of other features such as turbo charger.
But you're losing, notification led (can be enabled on n6), ips for a amoled, battery life.
Opo battery life is much better than n6 by 1 hour sot in my personal experience. I still prefer the n6, I love the big size phone and I can't see myself using a screen that isn't as wide.
Ultimately, the choice is up to you. My recommendation is go to a t mobile store and play with the demo. Although, the size isn't a problem once you've used the phone for week, you get used to it.

If you can wait for a device that you like (form factor, screen, brand) that has the 810 processor in it, I would wait for that. But if you want a phone this second then the Nexus 6 is a decent choice. With that being said you have a few things to consider.
1)Curved back - For some people this is a deal breaker. Don't ask me why it just is.
2)Large size- At a whopping 5.96" it is large in the average person's hand. I have large hands so this was actually fine for me.
3)Battery life- Because of the screen size the battery life isn't best in class. I will say that it is decent though. You can check threads with users posting their SOT. I on average get about 5.5-6 hours screen on time over the course of a day. (If I ever have time to use it that much.)
But with all those things considered there are a few benefits too, which I'm sure you've heard. When it all comes down to it if you are considering the Nexus 6 the other phone you might want to consider is the Note 4. It is close to the same screen size, same processor, and same battery size. There's no point waiting for a few more months, just a couple months later. the Nexus 6 will be even better because the development will be more mature in terms of custom ROMs and kernels.
Going to a phone that is a non-Nexus will have less development and the software will be more bloated with carrier apps and manufacturer skins. Once you go to a Nexus, you stay a Nexus. If a user is wanting something that works outside of the box and doesn't care too much about development then by all means go to a non-Nexus but if you care about custom ROMs and kernels then Nexus devices are the way to go.

I came from a G3 and before that a Note 3
. the Nexus 6 is by far my favorite phone. The development for it is far beyond any other device I have seen, we have kernels, ROMs and everything in between.
The size isn't bad in fact I really like how big it is. It only took a day or two to get used to. Note when I use my wife's Moto X 2014 or S5 its like looking at a iPhone 4. While here may be other devices out there shortly with the SD810 its not going to be as good without devs working on making it better. I had the G3 F460S which had the SD805 and it was much slower than the Nexus with the same processor. LG didn't optimize the chip set well enough to make it worth the upgrade over the regular G3. My antutu score with it was ~46K which is the same as the Moto X that my wife has which is 100% stock. While my G3 was rooted and tweaked with some mods at the time.
The AMOLED display looks great compared to a LCD and its very responsive.
It boils down to preference and I love my Nexus and will buy the next one as well.

Nexus phones aren't the end all be all. Usually they have the most developer support but buying something just because it's a Nexus branded phone sounds an awful lot like those "Fruit" buying fanboys that will buy anything their cult favorite company puts out.

i would also add that battery life is the most subjective issue. it literally depends on how you use the phone. if you're playing games or generally playing around with your phone, your battery life will suck. i use mine as a phone and tool for work and music in the gym and i get 2+ days of use.

If you like to tinker and have the time to spend doing so, the Nexus is the obvious choice. If on the other hand you spend more time doing things, working, recreation, socializing, then another phone will probably suit you better. Unfortunately this was my first Nexus device, and I got it thinking that it would be great to have a phone without all the carrier bloat. After getting it I found that many things I've come to consider standard in a phone, settings, options, etc. are sadly not present and probably will be in time with tinkering and trial and error, but I no longer have the time nor the patience to experiment on a device that I paid a large premium for that just seems to not only be crippled by sloppy software but also with possible hardware inconsistencies. I am lucky that I can jump any time I want and probably will here as soon as more devices come to market. But one thing the Nexus will do for you is help you to appreciate the care that other manufacturers put into their devices to support many features and options that a pure android device does not. So, with that in mind, make your won decision and live with it.

IMO, it's overpriced based on the quality of screen and some parts they used + poor QC.

Beyond the Nexus 5

My first Nexus device was the Nexus 4. I loved the quick updates but the battery life was pathetic and it seemed to age quite quickly. I then moved to a Samsung Galaxy S4 but got annoyed over the slow updates around November 2014, I purchased the Nexus 5 and I have been really happy with it. Battery life still isn't that great (although much better than the Nexus 4) but the quick updates are amazing. It's also aged really well and still running reasonably ok. I wasn't keen on the Nexus 6 as this is far too big but I am now starting to think of what phone I should get to replace the Nexus 5.
What phones are you all considering? The obvious choice seems to be to wait for the next Nexus phone but I'm not sure if they'd keep in line with the Nexus 5 or 6 (they might do both). Plus, it'd be quite a few months away so in the meantime I was thinking of the LG G4 as LG seem to be quite good with updates.
Thoughts and suggestions?

N6 is too large for me, and I won't buy any phone from Chinese company, so I will try my best to keep my N5 working

Still didn't change their bad behave, you will never believe the cost down of their product. Company like sharp and HTC will tight control everything use in their product down to rev., sometime it may down to specific batch and have a quite large margin for the design. For average user you won't notice anything, but if you take a look at the circuit you may wonder by their miracle.

I do not agree. It is my opinion that HTC is not the same, and does not have the same quality that they did years ago. It is also my opinion that Samsung devices have seriously gone down in quality.
For power users like us, we desire top of the line devices. We expect them to perform to a standard that the average user does not.
For the average user who just needs to check email and receive MMS picture messages of their grandkids, cheap Chinese phones can't be beat. If you want more, then yeah you have to pay more and buy from a bigger named company.

I´m also happy with my Nexus 5 and this device is still one of the best around, in terms of performance.
If I were you, I would wait a few months for the next Nexus device to be released. Who knows, maybe Google will release a Nexus 5 ( 2015 ) or a slightly smaller Nexus 6 ( 2015 ) ?

Its nice to have a new phone every now and again, but I would wait a while to see what happens with the next Nexus phone; it might just make you fall in love with the Nexus family again.

I think they will make a smaller Nexus phone this year. I'd like a 5.5 or 5.2in device with thin bezels.

I just wish it would be small enough (5") and has a better camera hardware (Nexus 5's is quite a bit lacking).

Save your money for next nexus. If rumors are true we will get 5.2" lg nexus phone. Im hoping for 2k display with quantum technology, type-c usb (because google hinted that in some video), fixed snapdragon 810 or 808 which is in lg g4, 3000mah battery, 13 or 16mp camera with lg's new ois, 3-4gb of ram (more likely it will be 3).

Ok you convinced me, patience is a virtue after all I'm sure the next Nexus would be awesome, I really don't like the direction they went with the Nexus 6 but rumours say that this was originally part of the Android Silver program (or whatever it was called) and it was only switched back to a Nexus phone last minute. Anyway, fingers crossed that the next Nexus is as awesome (or more so) than the Nexus 5 and equally good value for money.

I preordered an LG G4 yesterday, I have just cancelled the order. I love my Nexus 5! I may be tempted to buy a Nexus 5 (2015) if the rumours are true though

If the next Nexus is released in October then I think we're due for some major rumour/leaks about now. The feature at the top of my wishlist for the phone is a very large battery with some serious battery optimisation. Together creating a phone that exceptional run time far more than anything else on the market.

The speculations for each new nexus are always over blown and never live up to the hype. That said I've owned then all. After the nexus 6 (too big), I an looking for alternatives. I am fully planning to get a g4. I'm kind of tired of nexus cameras and battery life. If it wasn't for those 2 things (that and the memory leak that more ram should help) I could probably make it another year with my nexus 5.

This was my thinking with the LG G4 because the line of phones has stood the test of time. The LG G2 was released over a year and a half ago but it's still holding up well and LG are still supporting it with Lollipop (although it takes a while for the update to reach the phone). Something tells me the LG G4 could easily be supported for 2 years if not more. However, although the battery is around 3000mAh, it doesn't have amazing battery life. Much better than the Nexus 5 and would easily take most through the whole day but I'm really thinking that a phone that can easily take most people through 48 hours is a new standard that should be strived by manufacturers.

The s6 is tempting for me. I'd be gutted if nexus realesed a beast though. Can't beat pure android.

I owned a Nexus 6 for a couple months. I never liked the size and couldn't get used to it. I also hated the shape of the phone. It was not stable laying a desk. Surprisingly, I use my phone one handed while it lays on a desk a lot to send texts. That weird curved back wobbles and spins if you try to use it one handed like that. I also don't understand why people want such a high resolution phone. It just hurts performance and in a 5 inch package more than 1080p seems pointless.
I have switched back to my Nexus 5 and sold the 6 and am so much happier. I know now that I never want a phone larger than the Nexus 5. I am also on Sprint which makes buying a non-carrier phone virtually impossible. Basically I am stuck hoping the Nexus 5 refresh is small or keeping an eye on something like the Galaxy S6/HTC M9 AOSP custom rom scene which I really don't want to mess around with.

Nexus 5 has a really great camera, just compare it to nexus 4 camera. Its still 8mpx and that much better. Now imagine 13mpx with lg's new ois and camera API that allows you to use camera sensor in full glory. I would really like 16mpx camera on a phone like galaxy s6 has, but remember, its a phone, it has a camera to quickly capture moments when your "professional" camera is not near you. But i agree about battery, it should be better on stock factory image then it is, and they always put smaller battery in there. Maybe because it would kill oem's flagship phone that way.

We are not in dinosaur era where big screens were massive battery hoggers. Today you can easily get 2k display which uses the same amount of energy like 1080p screen (not on full brightness ofcourse). Also hardware is so good that it can easily push 2k without any performance drops (qualcomm wouldnt make 2k support in their cpu if it cant keep it up, especially for flagship devices, because if their processor fails to complete oem's tasks, oem will not buy from them anymore). Also, you noticed google is going colors in lollipop, why wouldnt you take advantage of that with a great 2k display and enjoy even more. I rather have better screen than 15min more battery.

I generally agree with you, except that I don't have any other cameras. I'm not a professIonal. I'm only going to shoot in auto, but that doesn't mean I don't want them to look as good as possible . I think large percentage of us these days fit into that category.

I too dont have a camera, but really phones cant substitute real camera. The only devices which are close are lg g4 and galaxy s6, but these devices are flagships, i dont think you will see that kind of camera on nexus phone because.. Well, its a nexus. If they make it a budget phone again, im sure you wont get that great camera. But maybe google surprises us.
