[Q] Pre-ordered Note 4 and already having 2nd thoughts?

So I pre-ordered my Note 4 through T-Mobile and a leak has come out about the Nexus 6.
Why am I having second thoughts to cancel the Note 4 and wait to see what Nexus could bring.

Maybe this will help? No spen, SD card, removable battery, multi window, mouse actions, etc. The note series is really the best big phone out there. Not because of hardware, but Samsung software really takes advantage of it. Stock android just doesn't.
But...it is impressive that moto fit a 5.9" screen in a small body about the size if the note 4.

Best thing about having Jump 1 is being able to jump whenever I feel like!!! If I dont like the Note 4, I'll just Jump to the Nexus 6.

You are right it is the best big phone out there, I played with it at Best Buy.
*The S-pen I really liked it, almost like writing on paper.
*SD Card - I don't mind losing it. I'm actually waiting for my 2nd 64Gb microsd replacement from sandisk, somehow they always go to a locked state. (I have 3 more sitting at home since I lost the receipts SanDisk won't replace them)
*Removable battery - I've never swapped for a bigger battery on my GS3 or my GS4. Thought the power saving feature will come handy in some occasions.
* Multi-Window - always had it rarely ever used it. I'm sure it's better on the Note 4 because of the bigger screen.
*Mouse action w\ S-pen - Now that will be useful for me.
*samsungalaxypromotions.com - I don't think NEXUS would give me $200 for my old GS3.
*Speaker - Really loud on the Note 4, kinda gets distorted at max level.
I've never had a nexus before, just a little jealous they get OS updates quickly lol.

Yup this is the best nexus feature. But most Samsung devices get pretty good development support. So even if T-Mobile doesn't release it quickly, you'll at least get it a few months quicker when the international version gets it.
But you really don't use multi window? That's one of the beet features on android IMO.
As for the SD card, I bought a Samsung one a whole ago and haven't had any issues with it.

Good point, I did turned off wifi calling for about 3 weeks just a couple days ago and fortunately coverage is good in my area.
Questions for Note 3 users: If you install the Google launcher do you lose some of the S-Pen features?

Nope. It's a touchwiz thing. You can use any launcher. You really don't lose anything by switching to a different launcher. (I had a note 3 before my S5).

i RMAed a 64gb microSD with sandisk earlier this year, and they didn't ask for a receipt. they asked me to take 2 pictures of the card (front and back intact), 2nd set of pics was the card destroyed in 2 pieces (front and back as well), and my replacement card was on its way the next 2 days. i believe that sd card has a 10yr warranty, and i RMA it 1yr later after purchase, so it makes sense that a receipt is not required for a product that has only been out for 1yr only, or maybe i just got lucky with a nice rep.

I will try giving another call.

Yep! Nothing else on the market even comes close, but that's IF you need all those functions. I do, so the Note is the only choice. The Spen and oneNote are things I can't live without. Otherwise if you don't need that, then yeah go for the N6 save some money and don't deal with Samsung anymore.

If the nexus6 had 128gb onboard, I would have gone for that. 16 and 32gb phones are just too small.
The only trepidation I have about the note4 is how long it going to takes before Samsung releases androidL on the device. They always take forever. The note3 is still in 4.4.2, when all the Motorola phones and most HTC phones have all been upgraded.

i actually noticed that too. i had to lower it at best buy. Im hoping its a demo software bug that can be fixed. On the other hand, my level on headphones with my note 3.... i sometimes wish i could crank up the volume louder so maybe the note 4 will make a difference it volume levels.

If anythign, get the Note 4 and later on just flash a AOSP L rom on it...
You will loose samsung features but then again you can also flash back to a Samsung Rom...
Best of both worlds...

Battery replacement - Battery from Sony Xperia Z2 into my Xperia Z

Hello xda Guys.
I am new and I have a question. Since I have updated my Xperia Z I have problems with my battery time. Before I have done update my battery was very slow too, but now it is horrible. I wanted to replace it four months ago, but I hadn't time. Now my question: Can I place the battery from the Z2 into my Xperia Z, or not?

nope, from long distance its look like z2 battery is similar to z, but when you see them those are totally different batteries.

my friend have it, he said that its not HUGE difference, but he dont have problem with it at all, and compared to my phone, with new original battery its WAY better,(not as you would expected looking at size but still) especially in heavy games. after day of usage he still have 30-40 when I had to use power bank

Be careful with cheap batteries from China. They tend to exaggerate a *lot*, and are often much worse than OEM batteries. At that price, it is far too good to be true. I can nearly guarantee it will be no better than stock, and possibly fail and overheat easily.
I bought a PolarCell battery from Germany, they are a known quality brand of aftermarket batteries. Rated at 2500mAh, slightly higher than the stock, and it was ~$25 - much more than any other brand, bit they are proven to be high quality. However, it performs identically to my original 2330mAh battery in terms of screen on time (goes flat well before end of the day with heavy use). Instead I got a battery bank case thing, that the phone clips into and it connects to the side dock. Also has a button on the back to turn on/off the battery bank charging mode. Works well, but blocks standard USB port.

And yes, you should watch out for some of them, but this one that I posted is actually good, and not only because my friend have it, but because most of reviews are positive about it(not only from aliexpress).
Its not give you huge boots, like you would expect from capacity of it, but its definitely is better(especially standby).
But Everything depend from user
I found out that most of people complaining, use phone a lot, or they have loots of background sync and apps running. And they expected HUGE boots or 12 years standby mode.
Im heavy user, sometimes I think that Im only person that use phone to work(rest people use it as for media consumption) and even if I recently put new original battery I still cant manage full day of usage, and Im a bit mad because I could buy this bigger one.
PS. I have case with wireless charging I wanted the same as CosmicDan but phone is WAY to big with it. I dont use it now(I actually hate phone cases) But its pretty cool and actually fast charging. but small movement and it stops so it was annoying as hell. I bought it mostly for night charging, but its turn out that Docking station is just better...

Yes of course most things are manufactured on China, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" shouldn't be forgotten. I'd personally never trust a $10 battery that claims to have 1000mAh higher than every other, $20 battery. Standby is not a problem, can last for days on standby with original battery. SoT with adaptive brightness and regular use is what matters - unless you yourself have this battery and can personally say it lasts more than a day with heavy use, and doesn't develop a memory effect after 6 months, then I guess it is good. But some people prefer to be safe than sorry. I used to repair phones as a technician and 90% of aftermarket batteries out there are complete garbage, that's all I'm saying.
Wireless charging? How does that work, the Z doesn't have wireless charging capability? And it's not that thick, only adds another 0.8mm to thickness. You get used to it after a while, and it has enough juice to fully charge the battery with a bit to spare.

Well, yeah, but many time I bought something from original shop, that is original new, and it was not cheap, and it had good opinion from forum users... and it was crap like hell.
Especially headphones. I'm crazy about headphone.. And those are not typical headphones for show off like most people use them today. I actually never use headphones in public(cant focus...).
And I bough many Sony headphones, Koss, JVC, AKG... aaaaand few times I bought Sennheiser because people say that they are good, and amazing etc etc... and those after Beats are really bad... even compared to JVC from HA series(best quality/price ratio)
So just because something is expensive it doesnt mean its better :]

That's fair enough. Many brands claim to be genuine but are fake, indeed. But if the one you shared is clearly stated as non-genuine and has good reviews, than fair enough - I'm sure it's OK.
Headphones are such a flooded market, I bought an $80 pair once and they had terrible low range response. My $20 Samsung pair were so much better.
That's a pretty cool wireless charging thing, never seen them before. But do you keep it always connected and just have it stuck to the back with tape? [emoji14] the plug could also be damaged, so I would not use it for those reasons. But that's just me, still a cool accessory.
But if they combined the case design (like the one I shared) with a wireless charging thing, so it would be much thinner + connect to side dock and keep USB free, that would be cool!
EDIT: Sorry, didn't see what you said below - so it *does* connect to the dock on the side, nice!
I am planning on a new phone this Christmas, myself, so I am probably done with gadgets for the Z myself. Either the Xperia C5 Ultra (I miss my old phablet, its pretty cheap and will get Android 6.0 update too) or the BlackBerry Priv. But I digress.

Ha-ha for sure, it is beautiful and I loved the Qwerty keyboard on my old Nokia E63. But I'm worried about the price, C5 Ultra us only $500 AU brand new (which is maybe $420 USD I think). It's a mid range device, I only want big screen so I can type better like I used to. But keyboard much better. Priv surely has flagship specs, but I'm expecting it to be over $1000 AU - not sure I can afford that! But we will see

Battery difference between S8PLUS

Has there been any info on if the new chipset is more efficient than the S8 Plus for battery? With a larger screen and s-pen I don't want to end up scrambling to find a charger by the afternoon.

I'd love to know this too! This is really my only concern with this phone.

From the reports I have read the Note 8's SOC will be slightly less than that of the SGS8+. If you study the specs there is no way around this. Apart from the price the slightly smaller battery could be the Achilles tendon of this mobile. Only time will tell.
When one looks at the schematics of the Note 8 there is no way Samsung could have done better. Its the space the S-pen takes up that causes the slightly smaller battery.
Having written the above I have been fighting for either larger batteries or new battery technology for years on all these high end Uber flagship mobiles. To some degree they all peeve me as they come with all the bells and whistles then add software and suggest we use said software to downgrade the performance to that of a middle of the range phone or have an SOC time of a few hours? The whole situation from all brands is rather absurd?

I love the battery life on the S8+ so if the Note 8 comes close then I am a happy camper. Though I expect to lose half an hour at least.

6.5 hrs looks solid

How does it compare to S7 Edge?
I had S6+ and hated the battery on it. It was real bad.
Then I got S7 Edge and it can actually make it through work with about 20-30% battery left.

Not sure if anyone saw yet, but DJ Koh (Chief of Samsung Mobile) said in a statement in The Investor that the battery is smaller because of the new 10nm processor that is supposed to be 30% more power efficient...but who knows if that is the real case...we will have to wait and see.

Latest test of Note 8 battery life, news is good

I thought that the chipset in the Note 8 was the same as what was used in the S8+. With a smaller battery, how could it possibly have better battery life than the S8+?

Speculation is greater RAM and better optimised OS give the Note8 an advantage

More ram uses slightly more power on the hardware size but can save it on the software side if apps are suspended in memory rather than being restarted from scratch. At this point there are quite a few reviews, hands-on, etc that show about 4 hours or a little better screen on time. These are people with new phones doing a lot of fiddling so I'd expect that goes up slightly once the new phone fiddle factor is out of the picture. This is enough for me although I'd of been happier with more.

One YouTube reviewer is getting over 6 hours sot. My Nite FE is better than my original Note 7 so i think Samsung have made the OS more battery friendly.

Then he goes on to show two more days both of which are 4 hours of actual use and then explains the 6 was with video looped to run down the battery...

Its absurd that the note series are 'power' devices yet they fit a smaller battery than the S8+!
Covering their arses or what?! This doesn't attract me, having Samsung skimp and play it uber safe for their own gratification. Other phones (including theirs) have larger capacities and are far cheaper. A bigger battery showing they have confidence in their products would not have been rocket science - and would have been what we, its 'power' users expect.
So what they made an error in the note 7 - the note 8 should have been the beast that it just isn't.

Lg v30 vs note 8

I already own a note 8 but the v30 is a very beautifull device. Even more than the note 8. Looks to be much more comfortable to use. Not sure about software since i never owned a lg phone. Would u even consider giving up ur note 8 for the lg v30.

I would not consider giving up my Note 8 for the V30. However it's a very subjective question. The V30 may be more suitable for those that want something a little smaller. I had the V20 a few months back and enjoyed that device.

I had a good play with the v30. Beautiful, but the screen in the Samsung is simply better IMHO. it just pops.
Camera.. I love the bokeh effect. Can't do that on the v30 (unless omeone gets the pixel 2 camera to work on it). And I have had nothing but excellent results on the note 8 so far. I do think the Mate 9 did bokeh best though.
Battery. Tough one. It's basically not good on the note. They never are.
Actually I can't wait to see the Mate 10. Much bigger battery, comparable screen and hopefully better night capability than mate 9.

Oh yes, one other thing. I think Samsung nailed their software this year. First time i have EVER stuck with TouchWiz. And the email and calendar apps are great. LG software still looks worse IMHO.

I had the V20 and it was nothing to write home about. LGs phones always have hype and then when you get one it's just ....ok. If you think the V30 looks better than the Note 8 you need to see a doctor. I have had the LG Gpro the G4 and the V20 I was disappointed in all of them. LG is not on par with Samsung at all. This is coming from experience. The V30 might compare to the S8+ but not the Note 8 stop smoking.

Speaking about the hardware, the V30 is generally more comfortable to use size and weight-wise. It has better battery life and DACs.
Is it a better phone than the Note 8 technologically speaking? No.
If I already owned a Note 8 would I move to V30 believing it to be the all around better phone? No.
I do think that the V30 is a great phone and wins in the particular categories mentioned above (ignoring the S Pen for comparison sake). If you want something smaller the V30 isn't a bad choice at all.

I might get it tomorrow on tuesday. I still have a week to.be able to return the note. I love the note hardware and smoothness but the size is to tall. Spen i dont use but i do love what samsung has done with touchwiz and the ecosystem. Will try both and see which one i keep.

This is the same thing people were saying about the V10 and the V20 and both were disappointing. What makes y'all think the V30 is going to be any different. My V20s battery life sucked! I was lucky to get 3 hrs of OST.

Im not the type of person who needs to buy every new toy I see, so no.
I'll have my note 8 probably until the note 10, longer than that if the note 8 is still performing and nothing else impresses me.

People are getting 6-7+ SOT battery. It does have better battery than the note 8. Our note 8 is better but v30 is an awesome phoelne from What i read and the minute i got to olay around with it.

The Note 8 is exactly what it says in the title. The main point of the Note is the S-pen with upgraded RAM. I see the Note 8 as more akin to a micro pocket PC with the S-pen as the mouse. :good:
The LG V30 is geared toward the video taker and music enthusiast. :good:
Trying to compare apples and oranges again ad nauseam.
By definition the 'standard' S8 is the direct comparison to the LG V 30 IF one insists on comparing.

That's what I think this partly is (No disrespect to the OP). And while the V30 is a flagship phone that is more manageable in hand, I don't think it should be a direct comparison as others have mentioned (even taking away the S Pen). Still, the note 8 is the benchmark for all android phones to be compared to, whether they deserve it or not. That speaks to the high quality and regard the Note 8 is held.
Unless a person found the Note 8 too unwieldy, I don't see why you would move to the V30.

Why not get both and dual wield? If the op thinks note 8 is too long, then the op will love the v30 feel in hand. I find both camera useful . maybe next year we ll get wide angle and zoom? I have a love towards big and powerful phone, so I'll never give up the note 8. Samsung, had to pry the note 7 from me . Lg finally caught up to Samsung build quality with the v30. The v30 is what the g6 should have been and directly compete with the s8-s8+. V30 ahould have 6gb ram, 128gb memory, 6.2 screen to really compete with the note 8.

There seems to be a lot of hype from tech sites and bloggers about the V30. But I strongly believe it's all about bashing Samsung. There's a human trait to want to knock down a peg or two, any person (or in this case, company) that appears to be popular.
Along comes LG (with let's face it, a decent phone that ticks many boxes), so an ideal opportunity to give it hefty praise when pitting it against a rival like the Note 8. The anti-Samsung lobby seize the opportunity to troll the comments sections on reviews and YouTube channels.
But ultimately I believe the Note 8 has the better overall specs and the screen... is pure perfection.

Sure u do lol. U might get ALMOST 6 or 6hrs. Using a few battery saving tweaks like "location on battery saving mode" ur previous posted and battery SOT screenshot dont lie. But hey. Note 8 does have great battery. Lg v30 seems to beat it out in all battery test. Not really enough to make a huge different

Like i said before. Im looking for a long term phone not the new shinny phone that is release. Reason for the question is that i own the note 8 but still on 8 days to be able to return and get the v30. The note 8 is better. But v30 have alot going on, better design more comfortable smaller design. Non curve screen. Face to unlock with screen off. Hifi dac, etc. Much cheaper. To me wide angle and hifi dac are more usefull than s pen and telefoto. Again. Personal opinion base on my everyday use

First LG V30 needs to be available worldwide then I can at least consider it. Happy Note 8 customer here

The only consideration for a V30 vs. N8 that I have entertained as a T-Mobile customer is the 600MHz support the V30 offers. But then again the deployment in that spectrum won't be completed until 2019. As others have posted, they had to pry the N7 from my hands twice last year. And only then I had to go the V20 route. While I enjoyed using it for the most part, there were weird slowdowns, glitches, screen banding, especially towards the end of a year's usage. From all online reviews I see so far, the V30 UI is similar to the V20's, which does not feel spectacular compared to the N8. There's more refinement and forward thinking in Samsung's offering, and the little details are appreciated in long term use. Yes, the V30s DAC and wide angle camera are perhaps the only overall higher points of that phone. But when I had the V20, that offered those similar enhancements, I rarely if ever used them.
There's a few good videos stating that the V30s screen though better that anything else LG has used to date, still has weird banding, or not bright enough (600 Nits vs. 1000).
At the end of the day, you're staring at the screen all the time, and all these phones are all screen now.
The N8 has the best screen in 2017, bar none (iPhone X and pixel 2XLs included).
You may want to hold on to your supersized screen monster...

Question Who's Going To Upgraded?

Based on some fairly reliable sources we're getting a clearer picture of changes planned for the S22 Ultra. It's morphing into a Note like offering with a dedicated S-Pen slot and a more squared body. Samsung won't be releasing a Note 21 and why should they? Display and battery size are reduced, cameras have some minor upgrades and possibly vapor cooling. The other noticeable difference is the Exynos SoC which will pair with AMD for superior graphics processing even though benchmarks are comparable to the Snapdragon 888. It's still a wait and see since the rollout is anticipated in January or February 2022 but if these projections prove accurate I'll pass on S22. Not a fan of S-Pen or the boxed styling and beyond these there isn't enough game changing innovation to consider making a change.

Meh just bought a second new N10+ running Q.
It's color rendering exceeds some of the newer displays and is a proven workhorse that's fun to use.
Android R and above are rotten Apples
Samsung's track record since the 10+ has been subpar. I'll likely wait 2 or more years before switching platforms.
I don't have the patience for Android's and Samsung's bs. Too late, too slow and the wrong moves, you lose.
Meanwhile I'm quit happy with my little 10+ family. Lol, I'm still exploring them. My oldest 10+ is 2 years old, has had 1 replacement battery, looks and runs like it's new. It's OS load is almost 1.5 years old, still running fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
I don't use the spen a lot but it nests away painlessly when not in use. The bt remote shutter release and Smart Select are excellent when you need them.
So yeah, I like the spen.
There are still a few new unlocked Note 10+'s 256gb/12gb ram Snapdragon/Q variants out there. Grab one up if you want one... they be sweet.

No upgrade for me, the S21 Ultra is very similar to my S20 Ultra, not worth the upgrade IMHO. That rendering looks hideous, and the specs being mentioned so far are not worth an upgrade.

1.5 years This phone gets heavy usage. Next one may replaced sooner to avoid another failure. I was lucky the display wasn't damaged.
Battery replacement is fairly easy.
Otherwise nothing failed or broke. Display looks as good as the new one and both are perfect.
No complaints on the 10+.

Not this time. I don't think phones are making that big a leap now with regards to upgrading. I did from the s20+ to the s21 ultra and to be honest whilst the ultras great I really don't need better

Yeah I'm already dual OS device . Meaning use Android and iOS .

I get a free upgrade each year so why not get a new battery (and phone)

Update - Charging speed for all models stays at 25W. Here's my take, unless you trade-in your device or accept a long term contract with a service provider you'll drop a significant bundle of $$$ to "upgrade" for a device which in many aspects isn't any better than the S21. I will definitely pass on the S22 and if Samsung doesn't get it's act together I'll downgrade to a much better value in the A72 or S22 FE. So you'll lose a more powerful chipset and some camera options but for about half the price you'll get most of the bells and whistles plus the MicroSD and 3.5 Jack. I really question the VALUE aspect in not only the S22 but the Fold 3 as well, it just doesn't stack up.

I'm on the otherside with the S-pen, I was on the fence going from the S20u to S21u, and after doing a camera review for youtube, I was debating returning it because it's essentially the identical phone with the reduction of microSD, but the though of using an S-pen gets rid of many note books I have laying around.
Now, to date, I still haven't purchased the S-pen because I got the silver phone and the only case they offered with the S-pen was black and covers the entire camera area, which defeats the purpose of getting the silver phone when the entire thing ends up being black anyway.
They now have aftermarket S-pen cases and one of which is clear so I can still visibly see the silver phone. It's been in my Amazon cart for awhile now but the renders of this S22 with the S-pen integrated are stopping me from hitting the checkout button when I could just wait it out and it's included with the phone lol
I was just going to buy the S-pen Pro but after seeing the price tag on that thing, I'll stick to a hoard of notebooks and pens. I take a lot of notes, and I'm going to assume that over the last 10 years, I haven't spent as much on notebooks and pens as the price of that stupid S-pen Pro.. it's.. literally insane lol

Im Not sure if there are enough reasona to upgrade. But i love the boxy note Design... Had the note 20 ultra and it was beautyful, shame that Samsung had the ****ty exynos... I returned it. But i think battery will be smaller than s21 ultra...

I'll be upgrading to a different device. And I can't wait! My S21U has been quite a let down as it has always had some odd issues that seem to be software based... But since those issues also occur after a full device wipe and Android reinstallation, I'm starting to assume that there were a bunch of manufacturing issues with this phone... And with the Samsung devices I have bought in the past, I've always gotten unlucky. Goodbye, folks

Meh, the N10+ blows it away with a completely self contained, fully functional spen.
I bought my 2nd new N10+ 2 weeks ago. No regrets... these buggers look gorgeous and run great. Running on P and Q; there will be no downgrade to R for me.
I use the spen mostly as a remote shutter release and for Smart Capture. Otherwise it hides safely out of sight.
Both Android and Samsung have lost their way... really badly, but like a drunk lost in the desert they have high hopes.

The N10+/256/12gb,Pie or Q/Snapdragon rocks. If you don't care about rooting box sealed new ones are still available for $800. Got my 2nd one 2 weeks ago, pristine perfect. Runs great maybe even better than my Pie variant.

I was also looking forward to note 10+ / note 20 ultra snapdragon but in germany we can only import it and then no warranty :/

New ones are very hard to find now even stateside.
A lot of scams going on now too; be careful.
As for warranty I wouldn't be too concerned as the 10+'s tend to be very reliable with an excellent build, they are rocks. Just test the hell out of it including a ScreenTest. It should do fine.
PM if you want that stateside dealer. It's the US unlocked variant running on Q. Unless you want to root it's the more desirable variant; all the Snapdragon variants use the vapor/copper heat sink, none have the graphene one.

Talk to the vendor, they ship FedEx stateside for free. Not sure about customs etc for offshore.
Make sure it's compatible with your carrier.
