[SOLVED] Deleted my Messaging App, Help - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, after I rooted my phone I started cleaning out some of the system apps that I didn't want and couldn't uninstall (Google Books, Movies, etc.) and I also removed the stock messaging app (stupid). It turns out that it is important and now I can't text from any other SMS app at all without it crashing.
Would anyone be willing to share their stock system messaging apk with me so I can put it back where it belongs? I can't seem to find it online anywhere. I know I really should be more careful, it was a thoughtless mistake. Thank you very much for your time.
SOLUTION: I found the Mms.apk in the system dump from the XT1097 Moto X and used a root explorer to move it into my /system/priv-app (possibly unnecessary, I tried this first), then I just took the apk and installed it like a normal app. Maybe this will help someone, but hopefully no one else will be as careless as me and need it.

Finally figured out how to remove "facebook for lg" app

Ok so after months of trying to figure out how to get facebook and twitter for lg off of this phone, I figured it out. My revo is rooted and I have cwm with the decrapped rom from thecubed. The actual apk file is called sns.apk (short for social networking service). I backed it up, then froze the app using titanium backup. Voila! No more facebook or twitter for lg. I don't know if anyone else has figured this out, but I thought I would share
SWEETTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most Excellent find. This should go in the list of useful apps to freeze. Great!!
Any non-rooted solutions??

I really doubt it, but is there a way to remove or freeze apps if your phone isn't rooted? Also, can't you just uninstall the apps instead freezing them? Or does that cause a problem somehow?
Thanks! I was wondering what SNS was...frozen now!

You can uninstall them.. but freezing to me is better.. if we do get the gingerbread update and you are still pretty stock with some frozen apps, you can un freeze and then do the update and you should be fine.. much easier than uninstalling the app and then having to reinstall them.
I noticed after reflashing decrapped 1.1 the facebook for lg icon came back and it also showed up as an option for sharing a pic. I looked in titanium backup and it said it was still frozen, when I hit unfreeze it said apk file not found, so I hit uninstall. That was successful, then I flashed mtmichaelsons revolt rom and since he hasnt gotten bluetooth working on it I reflashed again back to decrap 1.1. The icons came back and I went to tibu again. I hit restore and it said it was successful, but then the icons disappeared. I don't really care if this program is deleted permanently from the phone, but I am wondering why it keeps popping up like that and why it's acting like that in tibu. Not a major issue for me, just odd

[post-root] safe to remove

I will be updating this as we get more info in. Just post a reply and I'll edit the top here.

Titanium backup or use es file manager with root access checked off in settings and delete them or any file manager that has root access really but you shouldn't delete them..just move them to a folder on your sd card or rename them to .bak or freeze them with titanium backup..this way if anything goes wrong you will be able to fix it
Hope I helped

I remove the video editing app without any problems.
EDIT: I froze all the "authenticator" apps without a problem.

Im not so sure about removing anything blur or moto related. It was said that com.motorola.android.buacontactadapter was removed, but does anyone know what it does? The main thing I dislike the most is the way the camera handles flash and the way it is linked to gallery. (I hate the moto gallery, QuickPic FTW). If camera360 supported FFCs I would be much more likely to use it.

Also - word of warning - do not remove VSuiteApp.apk - I thought it was the VCast Media Manager, but removing it puts the phone into a "Force close" loop, which even ADB can't get you out of (can't SU while in the "force close" loop). I had to reboot the phone to get it working again and restore the APK file to its correct location, which was a pretty tense experience.

I removed the VSuiteApp.apk just fine. No issues here. the force close loop is caused because the application was running at the time of deletion. VCast Media Manager is known as NewBayVault_4.2.99.36.Market.apk . this can happen to any of the apps if they are system apps that are running during time of deletion
@Darksurf -thanks for that, VCast media manager now removed.
Edited my earlier post to add that APK to the list.
On removing VSuiteApp.apk - what does that app do? It seems to be related to the voice recognition system as far as I can see. Be safe to remove if you don't want voice IO, perhaps?
I removed the DLNA app, it started giving immediate problems with repetitive force close notices. Pulled the battery, restarted, never happened again.
So I used Root Explorer to rename most of the same apps everyone is listing as .bak. I then gave my phone a few hours run to see how everything behaved and that I didn't freeze anything important. Once I was satisfied with that I started actually deleting certain apps (ie. blockbuster, zumo, any vzw app) because all we kept saying was "remove the bloatware." Now I'm seeing everyone say we shouldn't have actually removed anything. All that being said, how can I replace the apps I actually deleted and simply go back and .bak them?
Can I delete GlobalNWSwitch.apk? Is this what makes the phone keep on asking whether you want to switch back to Global mode once the signal is lost for a while?

Froze some bloat, now Contacts FC's

After rooting, froze some of the bloat, but now when I click on a contact's name in the Contacts app, it Force Closes.
I'd read in the forums that the Yahoo Mail Authenticator was the cause of this, so I did not freeze it, but I'm still getting FC's.
Anybody got any ideas, other than one by one going through them all?
Well, step one would be a list of everything you've frozen, so people don't have to guess which one of the 220 system apps you shouldn't have killed...
I was messing around with freezing too and had the same problem; I could view the list of contacts but tapping a contact for their specific information would cause a force close. I fixed it by un-freezing some of the social apps...I think they hook into the contacts app somehow.
Did you by any chance freeze "Yahoo Contacts"?
That causes contact FCs for me.
Just tried to repro the issue with the social apps and couldn't get it to break. I also froze yahoo contacts and no breaky either. Hmm... When it happened to me I just un-froze anything remotely related to contacts, restarted, and checked. Can't say for sure exactly what it was, but try that.
I ran into this problem as well. Went back into Titanium, defrosted both of the "Yahoo" .apks and it fixed the problem. Of course there are other things that could break it if you froze them so it's not necessarily an all-in-one fix.
i know for sure that the yahoo ones were part of the problem, but i also think it could be the email and other things that contacts use even if you aren't using those specific things
hey guys I'm having the same problem but I removed the apk files instead. yea I know. I figured I could restore with Titanium backup but it just locks up. is there a way to manually reinstall? I already tried copying the apks to the /system/app/ folder but TB still reports the apps uninstalled and if I manually install the apk it says install failed. TIA!

[Q] removing system apps

so like always I get my phone from verizon and there are just LOADS of apps that I don't want and will never use. the first thing I usually do is download my browser of choice (xscope) and then I will go into an application and click a link or an ad. you are prompted with a dialogue of which of the browsers you want to use to open I chose xscope and tick the box that says use this as default. I am then safe to un install the stock browser and not run into any problems. I also took out the ones I knew wouldn't interfere with anything like netflix, blockbuster, pre loaded game demos.
my question is , is it safe to remove these moto blur applications, I never use facebook on my phone, I don't twitter...they're wasting space and I'd rather just get rid of them, but my last phone was the moto droid 1 and it didn't have any of this blur bull****.
so are there any complications if I remove my facebook or twitter apps then I click someones facebook link and my phone explodes because it cant find the moto blur app? Also can I get rid of the backup stuff...and Im not sure why...but Gallery has been replaced with 'my pictures' and it has that ****ing red thing on the top which indicates it will upload these to my verizon account....uhhh no thank you....do I have to keep this or can I just install an old gallery and make that default?
I wouldn't remove them, just freeze them. Titanium backup pro is a great tool and really worth the money. There's a lot of apps that can be frozen and not cause issues, check the Android development for the Droid 4, there's a thread about which apps you can freeze. Removing them can cause instability with the phone, and no sbf files have been released

scratch that I did a factory reset and the problem still persists. called up verizon they said they were going to give me a new phone since I just picked it up yesterday. only thing tho...can I unroot my phone and how? should I just un-install superuser? I doubt anyone at the store is going to know its rooted if I just un install that.
Please don't return your phone. You root you pay!

Here's the list of apps I froze on my Droid 4. My battery life is amazing now. I was at over 50% after 20 hours on battery yesterday.

Can't I just unroot it? I know none of the retards at the store will be able to tell the difference...but I figured I would use the Droid 4 Utilities seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492843 and just unroot it and give it back? you think it will work?

[Q] Unable to remove Mms.apk/Mms.odex

I don't know if anyone else is seeing this, or if it is just me. Prior to 4.4.4, I could remove Mms.apk/odex and have no issues. I didn't care as I used Hangouts for SMS/MMS, so I wanted it gone to clean up the app drawer. On 4.4.4, if I remove Mms.apk/odex, Hangouts will FC if I try to send a SMS/MMS message. It is still fine for a hangouts message though. Restore the app, and no problems. Is anyone else seeing this? I'd like to get rid of the app, but it appears I may not be able too.
Try just freezing it with titanium backup?
But if same issue, then perhaps hangouts now relies on it. Just hide it from app drawer if your launcher supports it...or else you'll have to live with it.

I read reports of this same exact thing happening on 4.4.2 also. KJ's suggestion was the solution for those users as well. I'm curious why you didn't experience the issue on 4.4.2 though, when others did...
Not sure why it worked on 4.4.2, or why it isn't working on 4.4.4. If I can't remove it, then I'll just hack the APK to get rid of it from the launcher menu, but leave it installed. Annoying, but it may be the only way around it as I don't feel like installing TiBu just to freeze the app.
And, it is now "fixed" :good: Replace the Mms.apk/Mms.odex with the one that is attached, and it will keep the app on the phone, but out of the app drawer. I deodexed the file, removed the launcher property from the AndroidManifest and then resigned the app. Once you put it in place, reboot and you'll be good to go. You may need to set the permissions on the file, if you do, you want 0644. Enjoy.
I also noticed that on 4.4.4 you can't disable MMS like you could in 4.4.2 I'm not sure why they thought that it would need to be kept. It could be a thing to do with making sure that people at least have Motorola's MMS on their phone. Maybe it is for Motorola Connect reasons.
