Where To Find 2K Videos? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got this fancy new phone with 2K resolution so where can I get a video to blow my friends away? YouTube seems to only stream up to 1080p even though several of the videos say 2K.

On the g3 there was an apk floating around that supported 2k video in the YouTube app maybe google or search the forums for that particular YouTube apk. If I'm not mistaken the web version of YouTube allows this as well.

Its actually 4k. try this but before you click on any of the videos from your phone make sure you are on wifi because its going to download the video and eat up your data.

I stand corrected.:good:
So what is the point of adding 4k recording if you can watch it in 4k wheb you play it on your phone?

Can anyone grab the ones off the best buy models?

To watch it on 4k TV. Also frame grabs from video are much better quality and you can zoom in, without loss of quality when using phone for watching and actually I use it very often on my Note 3, since with fixed lens framing is always far from perfect and there is always option of not using 4k video at all.

oh my friend at school has the lg g3 (also QHD) and his phone has some sample qhd videos. i found them for download but they are .dm file format so i dont know if the note 4 can play them and i saw some posts that say people get errors when trying to open them up even on the g3. they get an error message saying the files are locked. i can upload them if you guys want to try them. lmk

thanks a ton. some great examples here

Never mind. The youtube app only allows 720p even if the video is posted in 4K
http://www.uhdvideos.net/

Here is the youtube app that allows 1440p video .... delete your recent youtube app and reboot and disable auto update from google playstore and install the one that i posted

Wow just wow. Watching these videos, I can zoom in on them with my fingers on the stock player and it still retains the sharpness. Freaking amazed at the resolution and sharpness.
Ps you can two finger zoom live while the video is playing.

It's utterly UNBELIEVABLE that...

there are no video players that support this device properly...
i'm of course talking about the most widely used divx/avi format...
tcpmp...wack
the core player...wack
maybe i missed the thread where there was software that preformed well on the touch pro... but i doubt it... is the processor that f'ed up? 2 years and still no resolution... damn.
thank you,...! i thought it was just me,... would be nice to have one of these work on the htc touch pro,...

I have full ver of coreplayer and it plays avi movies fine for me. Watching one right now.
In the diamond Software section, there's a video encoder specifically made for the device.
I know that video recoding is not always the nicest/fastest way to get stuff on the device, but it does a greate job.
In that thread it's mention that CorePlayer doesn't support hardware acceleration...

Not really an answer but something worth looking at anyway =)
Am running coreplayer right now and it supports hardware playback, Whats the deal, how large are these files (in MB and resolution), natively encoded XViD movies (or GB sizes) work fine on the Raph. If you are attempting to watch a full HD video expect issues but what do you expect otherwise?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=divx+windows+mobile+cab&l=1
^ LMAO @ THAT LINK i will def be using that site quite a bit... but thanks ill definitely download this and see what's good.
@ labbbby... i mean ill check it out... but ya recoding the file seems like such a unnecessary step... especially since older phones specifically my out titan played divx files straight off my comp flawlessly.
we have g sensor programs, light sensor program, themes, ported programs... all kinds of extras... but a video player seems to be too much ... and its not like they phone lacks power... it seems more than capable to view high quality video.
and vanx for exapmle... i have a 480p rip of naruto about 200mb that will never work... are there any settings changed to get the playback smooth?

when your at work at lunch, on the bus/train... and you missed a episode or something the night before... it's pretty useful.
using the phone to its full potential is never wack... especially when you spend 500 - 900$ on it.
I watch full length movies using coreplayer all the time.
Who uses "whack" anymore?
I use Coreplayer on my Touch Pro almost daily. Full movies re-encoded down to ~200 megs, full seasons of various shows, looks great on the screen and through my video out cable.

Yea there is a tmpg kicking around specifically for the T.P. i have a full season of Trailer Park Boys, in mpg and a full season of Family guy in avi.
I also regularly convert video over to 3gp when i need too.
Ive had -0 problems with the media player and actually am really impressed with how great it looks.
There is a video converter called "super" somewhere out there on the interwebs. One of the greatest free video programs ive used. Just select 3gp and it sets all the codecs up for you, or you can tweak and adjust to suit your needs.

To be honest I don't even bother switching to 1080p, just use 720p most of them,
it's almost as good and most of the time you can't tell the difference on such a small screen

Those of us that are near sighted can see the difference.
720p is roughly 900,000 pixels (1280x720) total and 1080p is a little over 2mil pixels (1920x1080) total. In essence 720p on a 1080p screen will have a blur at every pixel set. I notice it because I am near sighted.

Use viral pro and get rid of YouTube, viral pro is way better and streams way faster. Try the free version.
This is a youtube issue. Other qHD phones lost their 1080/1440p options as well. There are a lot of 1 star reviews on the play store complaining about this. I hope they give us 1440p back soon!

I tried the free version of viral, I really like it so far. Being able to play videos over another app is amazing. The problem is I can still only watch videos at 720p.
I remember reading somewhere right after the phone came out that it may be an issue with the turbo, specifically after the ota that was released day one. People were saying that they were able to watch videos at 1440p before they installed that update. Of course now I can't find the thread where I read that to confirm.
Really hoping that we get Lollipop relatively quickly. Thinking that will fix some of the little software bugs the phone has.
found an older one that I least gives me 1080p
5.13.3-51303300
I have the Sony Xperia Z3v which has a 1080p screen and YouTube only works at 720p for it as well. So I believe it is an app issue and not related to the phone.
guys look at my post about the YouTube number

This is not the case, I have viral and u can watch whatever quality u want as long as the YouTuber is doing it in that quality. It has nothing to do with the Turbo I guarantee you. Not every YouTuber does it in the same quality, sometimes I'm watching 2K and other times I can only watch 360P. Again it's all in what the YouTuber is using to record it. For example go to MKBHD or Phonedogs channel, they usually have videos in 2K.

I understand how youtube works, and yes I know that not all videos are capable of higher resolutions.
I have tried using viral with multiple videos, videos that are definitely high enough resolution, like the 4K gopro videos on youtube. I even tried some of the videos from phonedogs as you mentioned. None will play at higher than 720p on my phone when using viral or the youtube app. My friend who has an LG G3 is able to play at 1440p without issues. Definitely seems like an issue with the phone to me.
Yeah still nothing. Tried installing older youtube version and viral. Nothing. WTF good is a 4k screen if there is nothing you can watch in 4k.
Note 4 has the same problem. Don't know what's up. My S4 and Moto X 2014 and One Max all work properly.

Agree, works on stock rooted ROM. Don't know why potatomanwrl is having difficulty unless he is not searching for
and watching 2k/4k video or changing the video quality settings to 1440p?
I'm not rooted, but I did search for and find 2k and 4k videos, when I try to change quality, 720p is max offered. I'm also using the T707A. So maybe it just won't work yet for my device.

Netflix on my Note 3 and Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 ... all flawless ... especiallly what you say about frame drops and lags... never seen that before... if my internet is bogged down because everybody in the house is streaming then i will see the resolution drop sometimes but framerate is always steady and consistent.

I never seemed to have any problems with Netflix either no lag or anything same with Youtube at 1440p
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could watch 1440p already with the old version? But it's cool, that the buttons are visible again.

Edit: Just installed the old version again, 1440p was already possible.
ref smoothness - how strange - I get judders/frame drops in pans, sometimes in sudden movement etc as well - in particular with Netflix but seemingly with most streaming "flash" content
yet "local" 1080p content is smooth as silk
I've tried connecting via 5G as well as normal N to no difference
its not the network connection - buffer fine - and Ipads streaming from same router
just in comparison the Ipads video is much smoother in frame rate - perhaps its something that some people notice and others not - because as I said I get the same issue with my Exynos Tab S as I do with my Snapdragon 800 Note 3 - in fact in some films on my Note 3 (Transformers was one) - the break-up was bad enough to cause a glitch in the sound - if you rewound - you'get the same breakup in same place every time - yet not with IOS - it was almost like the CPU or GPU maxing out - I tried forcing 2D GPU etc settings in developer options to no avail
YMMV I guess

Do you have the phone set for WQHD+?
if not, YouTube will not show the higher res options.

Yes I do. Even put "Entertainment mode" and nothing. It's the application itself. Every YouTube video I used to watch on 2k hdr . Now only capped at 1080.

I think it was because majority experiencing dropped frames when watching it. So probably got listed as being incompatible with 1440p+ HDR streams.
Work around would be to use Chrome:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

i at least get 1440p
i at least get 1440p. i don't spend time on the app and didn't know the restriction was removed until i read this...
Ever thought about trying OP YouTube? I've been enjoying it. Only thing I miss from the stock YouTube app is the option to expand the video to fit our display ratio but that's a small thing to miss.

For regular (non HDR) you still have that option. Try finding a HDR video and you are capped at 1080p. 2k/4k options are not available anymore in the app for HDR content.
Ok... I wasted hours on trying to fix this.
By coincidence it started when I started playing with the app resolution in Gamtuner.
I ended up wiping the whole phone - twice.
Second time without restoring any backup.
Downloaded latest APK from Aptoide in the end
Then consulted XDA
Always look up XDA first...
Btw. Search I the app to look only in the Note 8 thread... non existent or can't I just find it?
Looks like this is due to the 1440p 60fps issue with the Note 8. - 1080p 60fps works without dropped frames with Note 8, but Note 8 has been having problems with 1440p 60fps dropping frames. This is my believe why Google (YouTube) stopped supporting 1440p 60fps with the Note 8.
Google (YouTube) is still supporting 1440p at lower frames per second (30fps), when available, with the Galaxy Note 8.
Hopefully there will be a solution in the near future that Google (YouTube) can support 1440p 60fps with the Note 8.
Slightly off topic, is it normal for YouTube on mobile device to have some many adverts? I ask because I normally watch YouTube from chrome browser on a PC. Was shocked how the Note 8 YouTube app appears to be bloated with more adverts, some even appear every few minutes while watching a video.

I don't know, since I have YouTube Red with my Play Music subscription.
