[Q] Does it have a notification LED - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If so, what type?

Doubtful. With an amoled screen, they're probably going to implement some sort of active notifications. And if you look at the photos, there's nothing standing out on the bezels...

Being that the notification LED is a requirement of the Nexus program (just like wireless charging) it will most certainly have one built in. The Nexus 5 also had no mention of the notification light on its spec page but alas, it did have it.

Dear god I hope so. I am not a fan of the moto x style of active display for notifications.

Man I hope so, it's the one thing about Samsung phones I love. I don't understand why more manufacturers don't do it like that.

All nexus before (except the nexus s) had had one. /crosses fingers

I'd rather have notification LED.
I really enjoyed this feature on my old Moto Dual G.
Not like the screen used bike in moto x

That thing at the top? I assumed that was an ir blaster or something along those lines. But who knows. I think that would be an awkward place for a notification light. Bit it's better than nothing of that's what it is.

That looks like a sim tray to me...

Not too sure on it. Might just be a minor design concept. The top of the phone will have the 3.5mm headphone jack and that little hole is indeed for the SIM tray slot much like the iPhone.

Oh man that would be awesome. Would really be a huge plus if it turned out that way.

Pretty sure I was wrong. Using active notifications (or whatever it's called now) instead.

What about a charging indicator? Would the Active Display/Ambient Display notify you of a full/charging battery?

damn that sucks if true

That's a break in the metal band around the phone. There's 2 at each corner, 8 total. Its how Motorola uses their software to redirect the antenna to parts of the phone that aren't being gripped, to avoid atennagate lol

Great job regardless, a lot of attention to details. But picture is epic fail - get another phone/camera and take a picture with phone in.
Really?
I shared what I had built as it was at the moment. Isn't that what this developer's forum is all about? Perhaps you can help us all out and run over to every thread where someone has posted a beta, alpha, or nightly and let them know that they have an epic fail for not making sure it was not needing any more development before they posted it.

It would be interesting to hear how hot it gets. even in my old otter box case the thing use to cook. i can imagine wood. but never the less it looks awesome. great work.
Nice job man! Love the black carved out Androids!
That's pretty awesome. I'd be too afraid of the heat though. Still great build nonetheless.
Good job on the dock. It's pretty cool...you even got a little notch for the camera on the droid inc.
I wish I was half as creative and handy as you. Very nice job!
That's pretty cool! I actually cruised over here to see if anyone made their own dock recently.
finally
Finally got around to taking a picture of the dock with the phone in it. The display is the "night display" from Gentle Alarm. In the background, you can even see part of the landline and the alarm clock made not necessary by the phone in the dock.
wow over 1600 views
I just looked at this thread and realized over 1,600 people have looked at my dock. Wow. I have been using it for several months as an alarm clock in the dock every night and so far no heat issues. It has been working out very well. After seeing how many people were interested in a dock I think I should have offered to make and sell them. I still could, but I imagine the market for a new dock for this old phone is dwindling.
I would buy one. Red androids please.

Ok, if you want one I can make one. I wouldn't expect to be making very many of these so each one could be customized. That one was made in pine which I stained with a pecan stain. I have since come across some walnut boards. I could make one in walnut which would look much better than pine. If you want some other type of wood I can see about getting some. I used a micro to standard USB cable which allows me to either plug it into the computer or into the standard dinc AC adapter. I can also change the design with more or less androids, your name or some completely different design, even a square or sculpted top rather than a round one.
If something in the neighborhood of 50 bucks is in your price range let me know along with any specifics of the design you want.
And, of course, for everyone elses' enjoyment I can post a picture here when it is done.
How do you have your usb plug secured in there? I've been trying to come up with a design for one of my own since I always use my phone as my alarm clock, but I've not come up with a good way to get the plug to stay in place so that the phone can be plugged in easily.

I placed the phone in the holder then I plugged the usb connector into it through the other hole I had cut for it. Then I put some gorilla glue around the plastic part of the plug being careful to keep it away from the end. Gorilla glue expands and fills the space around the plug. I lightly clamped the phone in place overnight, but a couple hours should be enough, and then when I removed the clamp, the plug is secured in place exactly where it needs to be.
Cool idea, looks great!

Aha, I had that same thought as well!

Picked this up today...

So I was out shopping with my wife and came across this. Thought it was pretty cool so I decided ti get it. Problem is that the base part won't fit the phone because it's too small. I'm trying to find a way to have it fit but not sure where to begin. .. any ideas? I(t's a Hype retro handset, but also included the base (or dock), which is where the issue is...

what is it?
It is a retro styled device that turns your phone into a 80's style desk phone. You can either rest your phone in the base part (or dock) and connect it through the supplied 3.5mm jack or you can use the handset piece separate and also plug just that part into the 3.5mm jack.
Here I thought I was bad taking pictures

It's something I could definitely see using at home. I had the phone in my front pocket and the handset hooked into the jack and was able to use it with no issues. The handset also has its own volume adjustment which is nice. That said, it's probably not for everyone...
It might look a bit strange carrying around the handset piece and using it in public hehe. For a relatively older guy like me (I'm 36), I grew up with these kinds of phones so it definitely appeals to me.
My sister in law just got herself the handset piece (you can buy it separate) and she likes it too.
The base (dock) will accomodate most other phones. But the Note 2 is too wide to fit the opening... so I'm trying to think of ways to either make it fit or some other solution..
Maybe this pic will help clarify...
That's my wife's Galaxy S3 in there..

I think it'll work on our phones, my only question is about that port on the back side that looks like a typical phone line port. I'm not sure what is it for, plus I cannot figure out whether the device actually charges the phone too..

There is one 3.5mm female jack on the left side of the device that the handset connects to. The handset can either be connected to that, or you can connect it directly to the phone's 3.5mm jack. If you connect the handset to the device, there is a male 3.5mm jack that is used as a passthrough for the handset to connect to the phone. At the bottom of the device the hole you see is to pass a cord for a wall charger, so no, the device itself won't charge your phone. Hope that clears things up a bit.

Interesting touch, and very smart actually given how many people had their backs crack just from temperature variations on whatever surface they put their Nexus 4 down on. Hopefully that lifts the glass off any surface a bit. Flip side is that looks like it'd be a fitment problem for most cases on the market already.
It's not to cool down the glass, is to keep free the sound from the speaker that was getting blocked when you had the device on a flat surface.

They probably have a whole variety of reasons. IMO raising the speaker off flat surfaces would be a perfectly good reason because it's completely muffled when you put the phone down on its back. They wouldn't change the hardware just for that, but it'd certainly help.

Torx screw you mean.
And going back on topic, if the phone is flat on the table the gap could increase air flow for better cooling and increase the volume too.
Its REV 11, Production date 02/2013 made in Korea. i'm in the US and It still fits perfectly fine in the LG Bumper. The photo is little confusing it was taken with my original N4 with a macro lens. the hole is the torx screw on the bottom.
Awesome! I ordered an RMA last night, should be receiving it sometime this week.

Hard to say, its circular as opposed to long and slender like on most phones. I think a lot will depend on the audio hardware they use, which is kind of an unknown.
its right up there with camera quality, we wont know how good it is till we use the phone.

probably some internal components location relative to the screen or other significant part (battery, radio etc), as a prototype engineer/machinist I see compromises like that made all the time. The fact that they got a 5" screen into a frame smaller then the N4 is pretty significant and was probably due to a few design/construction compromises.

I like the chin on phones.. especially when they dont have the home/back/menu buttons on them. gives me a place to hold when im holding it sidways to take pictures..that way my hand wont touch anything before i actually want to take the shot..also, a phone without a chin would be a bit ugly in my honest opinion. Loving the form factor of this phone, all except for the lens..but hey, its a nexus, cant complain when its 200+ dollars cheaper than most phones off contract.

Look for this Number at the back side somewhere in smallish letters:-
Inside the micro sd card slot will be a sliding sticker. use your long nails or a pointed screwdriver whatever, to pull it out
14W15 (as an example) that will be 2014 week 15
Thanks
14W04 (on the FCC sticker)
I bought it in September, so it makes sense, thanks for telling me.
Also it had 103 charge cycles on the battery, that also might work with 3 months (~90 days).

I wonder why Google didn't show me that info page in the first place when I searched. Heh. Thank you, both, for helping me out on this. I almost hard the darnedest time seeing it.
Looks like this device was built in late week 40 of 2013, although it was only unboxed earlier this month - as mentioned by it's previous owner. Though somehow I doubt that because the left loud speaker was inoperable, unless that was a manufacturing defect...

Sorry for replying this late, but you're somehow mistaken on the left speaker thingy
Our Z1 only has one LOUD-speaker on the bottom righest area. Though you can turn on the upper speaker as well with a mod also available on XDA. I have been using it and the mono quality speakers have become stereo; without a doubt a must thing

My rooted-stock ROM has dontbelive's stereo mod cooked-in, but only the other day did I come to realize what you just mentioned there. I knew what the mod did, though somehow it escaped me why I had it. It can take /considerable/ time for things to click. Silly me!
But hey, good to point that out anyway! I'm sure it'll be notable for future reference
