Android lollipop - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just seen android lollipop running on the new nexus devices from Google and my goodness is it beautiful.
Samsung would probably take a light years to give us an update so my question is With T-Mobile having a unlocked bootloader do you think we are going to get a full android Lollipop rom for our device?

I think Samsung said we would have it by the end of the year [emoji85]

They really said that? Hmm that could change my next phone. I was leaning more towards the Nexus 6, but I really like the Note 4. And 6" Just seems like too big of a phone. Even if it is only .26" bigger than the Note 4.

Samsung already has a beta for the s5 so I'm guessing that they have one for the note 4 as well

Let's wait for my phone to break, don't have the money to keep buying new phones.
If KLP lags on the gnex, i'm going back to ICS..
Me waiting for the next Nexus too. Currently I don't want to change, because I am more than happy with that

seriously? ICS was laggy as hell.
It depends on a screen size (and free funds to spend of course ). If the screen size is 5" or bigger I will consider N4 of HTC One.

I hope the next nexus will be from HTC. Their build quality never disappoints. But for now I'll stick to my gnex..

Never getting anything but nexus devices when it comes to android. I also skipped the nexus 4, imo upgrade wasn't worth it.

And anyways, whatever new features are announced in KLP will be made for the next nexus in mind.
I am, however will depend if it comes to sprint. Have a great employee discount can't switch carriers

Probably going to switch to the one this summer.
Really liking the design of that phone. The s4 just seems way too big for me and I would rather have a longer phone than a wider phone

My upgrade is in September so I still have some time to go. If Google comes out with a vastly improved nexus without a recycled design from another device. By vastly improved I'm talking about Camera quality, LTE, full HD screen and battery life. Sure I'll go for the nexus 5 but if they don't improve all those than I'm going to contemplate jumping ship.

Hmmmm...Nexus 5. If you'll note, the current nexus lineup are all named according to the display size. For Google to add a 4th nexus device to the lineup is unlikely (to much to manage), so the best guess is a refresh of the nexus 4, possibly by another manufacturer, and probably later in the year. What we can expect for I/O is a refresh on the nexus 7 (with the same name), and possibly a non-nexus device from Motorola that runs stock Android.

I think we could expect a new phone as well. Considering that key lime pie is a major update, there is bound to be new features for phones not just tablets. So they will be probably need another device to show off the new features of the new build. I'm doubting they will use a nexus 4 as a demo device, its already fairly old news.

this is a leak, not an official release For all we know, google was set to have an official release for N4 pushed to the server in the next 24 hours, and maybe S4 isn't scheduled for another month (hypothetically speaking, of course )
I'm pretty sure a dev can get it running on the Nexus 4.

My likes:nexus device direct updates, android 4.2,glass back, processor, ram, screen and onscreen nav bar

The latest nexus is always a good choice because you get support from Google for a good while and they're easy to resell.
I've had mine for a few months now and when you compare the cost to hardware/software combo of the N4 to any other phone, the N4 wins hands down.
Sure if your budget was unlimited I'd probably go INA different direction (HTC One).
The good thing about the Nexus line is that they hold their value. If you chose to buy a used one now, you can probably sell it when the N5 comes out and not take a significant lose.
My only gripe with the N4 is the camera. My wife's S3 takes better pictures, otherwise its an awesome phone. What device will you be coming from?

I go through Android phones like you wouldn't believe, I've had over 10 in the past 3 years. The Nexus 4 is the best I've ever used and the phone I've stuck with longest. I got one at release and sold it a couple of months ago to try an Xperia Z, sold the XZ after a few weeks and went back to the N4, it's that good.
Ive also had way to many Android handset's over the past 2 years, and even an Iphone 5.
I also had an N4 on release day too and sold that for the iphone.
Sold the iphone to go back to the Nexus 4.:good:
Its by far the best and purest Android phone I have ever used.
I love it so much, I now have a Nexus S as my work phone and a Nexus 10 tablet.

Possible Nexus 8

Hi, yesterday I went to Staples to buy the Nexus 7 32gb for $169. I asked the Staples employee if the Nexus 7 discontinued? He said yes we are getting the Nexus 8. So I don't know if there is truth to that, but he answered pretty sure. And it felt like they already have some stock for the release date. Is it possible we can get a Nexus 8 instead of 7. I asked 7 or 8 he answered Nexus 8.
I found this also
http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/18724/20130709/nexus-8-release-date-specs-price-rumors.htm
Could be a nexus 8 at october. But is possible also a nexus 7.

Yes, I bought mine almost 2 weeks early at Staples.
Just a thought but, Maybe he was confused and assumed that the new one would be called Nexus 8 because it comes after 7. I think it's safe to say with all the leaks that 7" is what is replacing it. I honestly don't think they'd do a 7" AND 8". That would be a VERY bad idea and would cause confusion and kill sales. I think it's cafe to say that Google will keep the 3 Device setup but try out a couple of others (rumors of Game console (like OUYA) and a watch have been floated).
I think Google would keep this information more private and request it not be shared with employees. Like said, it is probably the Nexus 7 Second Generation.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
You should go back to the same guy and ask if he has any idea when its coming out.
He probably didn't realize the 7 meant a 7 inch screen size and thought the 8 was the second generation like iPhone 4,4s,5...

Yeah we've had some "leaks" but still don't know a thing.
I've heard some many "involved" people say August. Retailers wouldn't be clearing stock months in advanced. iDevices don't sale until another one is announced, give or take a week.
Apple is at least more structured with their release dates. Google makes it hard. Nexus phones can be released anywhere from September to December.

How long will the 2012 Nexus 7 be supported?

How long do you think before Google drops support for it and we get no more updates?
Even if they do drop support for it that's what places like this are for. I'm still rocking a 5 year old phone. Granted it might not be as fancy as the newer models out there. With custom ROMs produced by the fine people of this site it's still up to date as far as what OS it can run.
i think probably soon. htc one X with tegra 3 has dropped support saying nividia did not provide the driver. I reckon for the next update, google will probably say the same thing. Just like how they stop updating galaxy nexus with the same reason
They want you to buy newer models so updates will stop on any device.

There will still be custom ROM's that you can flash and it'll be compatible for years to come.

Agreed....best thing I ever bought. Totally worth the money and when it comes to support.....I'm still using a 2011 HTC rezound running kit kat thanks to the developers on here. Our nexus 7 (2012) will get updates thanks to developers for quite a while still.

As you know Kitkat is not compatible with Galaxy Nexus, a 2011 device...
I still think that new version of Android will be compatible with Nexus 2012 (I have one so I hope so too), but probably that was the last officialy version released for this device.
It could change if they sell a new Nexus 7 this year. If they do so... I think that they will drop Nexus 2012 support this year...
The official GNex was dropped not because of the device itself (KK runs fine on my gf's GNex), but because the SoC's manufacturer (Texas Instruments) closed its SoC division and so they stopped updating the drivers and Google wants updated drivers in every new releases.

As an owner of a previous Tegra device (g2x) I'm pretty aware of the vendor's level of support: None. Basically, once Google is done with it, nVidia will be done as well. So I wouldn't count on upgrades going on forever like we're used to with Qualcomm devices. Still, I'm getting one cheap as a backup for my N7 2013 LTE (which is in the process of getting a new screen leaving me tablet-less for now... ugh)...
Nexus devices usually get support for 18 months. So it will most likely kit kat is the last update for nexus 7 2012.
